Lucia looked deep in Rivener’s eyes, her own sparking slightly in the light flickering in through the windows. As he turned away from her, her half-lidded eyes slid closed for a second and reopened when the scorpion’s voice cut through the air. Looking for its source, she saw Rivener was already by the door. The cat’s ears twitched slightly and her wings flapped thoughtfully as she nodded at Rivener’s suggestion that they go outside and see Eiry. ”That’d be nice!” she responded. What did a ghost raevan look like anyways? She tried to remember the information that she got from Josh, but really couldn’t recall much other than Eiry was a scary ghost raevan. Looking over at Rivener, however, she noted that his cheeks had a red blush like her own. It looked silly on a boy, but the red slowly faded from the scorpion’s cheeks.
Lucia naively followed Rivener to his bedroom, completely unaware that Yuurei...might be upset she went in there unsupervised. Lucia floated into Rivener’s room, right past him and quietly inspected everything without being obvious about it. She noted the camera and smiled slightly remembering the summer event. "I have a balcony too! One night I snuck out through it. . ." As she walked over to the balcony he mentioned, Lucia let her fingers brush across the computer desk. ”Oh, sorry!” she said as the mouse was knocked off of the desk and the screen saver disappeared.

Rivener had grinned at Lucia's admission that she had a balcony as well. What a fun coincidence! Riv personally loved balconies, he found them wonderful and romantic and private and just all around cool. Lucia next small admission caught his interest and he turned to face the balcony door, moving to open it so they could visit out there and see the view (which was rather nice, but Riv suddenly thought it would be much nicer with a certain cat-girl-Raevan in it). "You snuck out? I do that sometimes too. Where'd you go? AH!"
Riv heard the mouse clatter and he turned too late; the screen saver popped off and there was his desktop, icons all over the place to make sure none of them obscured the picture of Lucia Riv had as a wallpaper.
Note to self: install a damned password on that screensaver! Riv thought with brightly burning cheeks, rushing forward to push the "power" button on his screen, hiding the embarrassing display. "Ah, er, s-so, where'd you sneak off to? Where IS your house anyway? Here, let's go find Eiry! Look, a ball!" Desperate to distract Lucia from whatever she might have seen, Riv pommeled her with comments, even going to far as to throw a ball playfully at her from where he'd grabbed it on the desk. As it was, Riv's wings were flared open defensively like scorpion tails, and he frantically tried to think of completely logical, innocent reasons why he'd have her as a wallpaper.
And then Riv wondered why the hell he was making such a big deal out of this. It's not like he'd hide it from Laz if he had a wallpaper of Laz, right? (and he used to before this one)...

”I’m sorry Rivener! I really didn’t mean --” The kitten stopped short as Rivener’s wallpaper popped into view. The image on the wallpaper was an image of . . . her! One that he had taken at the beach that day. She didn’t get it, though. Despite the amount of time they spent together he had been continually running off. Maybe he just liked the background of that picture, and not its subject. ”Umm . . . “ she faltered, trying to figure out whether to address her image on his computer or to return to the subject they were talking about. What was that subject? ”Why do you have my picture on your screen?” She paused and smiled, trying to lighten the nervous mood; “afraid you’d forget what I’d look like?” She giggled nervously and stared at the now dark computer screen.
Glancing up she tried to remember what they were talking about. ”Oh yeah. I have a balcony. It’s connected to my and the guest room. It’s really pretty and romantic with a wrought iron handrail. It overlooks the ocean.” She glanced out at Rivener’s balcony and saw that he too had a view, but of the lush greenery in the Delaran yard.
Lucia slowly floated out onto the balcony glancing at Rivener to make sure it was okay that she go outside. ”I live on the shore, north of the Great Wall of Gambino.” She paused again once on the balcony and looked around. Her hair had slightly yellow shines from the sun and the gold was reflected a little in her eyes. ”I don’t really like Yuurei. So one night I floated over the balcony and went really all over. I went along the beach for a while. I watched the fish jumping out of the water.” She paused, trying to recall her next move. ”Then I went into the woods for a while. It looks different in the moonlight. All blue and silvery. I went onto Gambino Island and visited Nana Lucia’s and ate a little. . .” She paused, not wanting to reveal that Nana Lucia was dead and that, while he was able to go into the star light to eat, she spent a good amount of time in graveyards thanking the dead for supporting her. It seemed too morbid for her. ”I wound up sleeping at Nana Lucia’s and was woken up by . . . people visiting her neighbor in the afternoon. Then I went home.” No one else knew what had happened that night, but she wasn’t about to share the dream she had in the moonlit graveyard, or the soul she encountered before she passed out. Lucia looked out at the view, a sad lonely look on her face. Her lips were pouty, but still sultry and her eyes, still reflecting the golden sunlight refused to stop sparkling, despite her thoughts.

Rivener inwardly swore when none of his ploys worked to distract the cat Frei from the wallpaper. Riv chuckled sheepishly at the question about that picture, and since Lucia then moved on to the balcony, Riv decided that he could just pretend nothing happened, just not answer the question, and everything would be fine. He just nodded slightly as he looked back at him as though asking permission to go out there, and Riv floated after, leaning against the door with arms crossed, watching the girl as he talked and looked out at the yard.
Riv was right. The view was definitely wonderful if Lucia was in it.
A slight smile tugged at the Scorpion's lips and he made a mental note of where Lucia lived, promising himself to look into it and pay her a surprise visit later. He listened to her story for now, almost vividly imagining the night-time ocean with fish leaping out, then a wonderful forest of silvery trees... "Is Nana Lucia your grandmother?" Riv asked, mostly because they had the same name.
The dark Frei floated off the door then, uncrossing his arms and moving to the wooden railing, leaning both hands on it and looking out at the scenery like Lucia was. "As for Yuurei... I used to dislike Aphismet too. But-... Maybe if you give your human a chance it will turn out different from what you expect? I know Aphi was just a jerk cause he didn't know how to deal with me being here at first." Riv shrugged. "Well, that's just my experience. Aphi's... Aphi's not so bad now." He couldn't get himself to say anything more flattering than that.
"And if you tell me your house's number or something, I might be able to sneak over sometime and visit." He grinned, his manner taking on that sensual overtone he used to adopt with Roux when they'd first met. Although why he suddenly found himself acting like this with Lucia was confusing. Perhaps he was getting used to her?

Lucia smiled slightly, noting that even with the pauses Rivener never addressed why she was his wallpaper on his computer. She looked at him coyly, playing with him a little since he hadn't noticed she had been inwardly upset.
"Nana Lucia was my guardian's grandmother. She passed away before I could meet her, but Yuurei named me after her" she paused, hoping the scorpion wouldn't make the connection between her visiting Nana Lucia and Nana Lucia being dead. He had missed (or avoided) a lot of things (questions, answers, emotions, possible conversations), so maybe he would miss this connection.
She paused for a few moments, considering what Rivener told her about Aphismet. His slow guardian certainly would be frustrating, but he seemed more adept, caring, interested, involved than Yuurei. The kitten raevan shrugged slightly a slight smile on her face. "It doesn't help that she didn't pick me up for two months. . . and I had to live with Roux." She had forgotten that Rivener and Roux were friends and therefore the loathing was very apparent in her voice.
"You'd have to sneak over at night. And float up to my balcony. . ." She smiled at him her fingers reaching out casually to play with his silky hair as she gave him her address and thought of Ruppunzel, Romeo and Juliet, and the dozens of other romances she read with women and balconies and handsome men coming to rescue them from their insufferable captors.

Rivener did indeed catch onto the strange contradiction about Nana Lucia, but he didn't say anything. She probably meant that she still visited her Nana's house or something. Or, well, maybe she DID mean a ghost, but that hardly surprised Riv when he lived in such a haunted house. Shrugging, Rivener decided not to pry. If Lucia wanted to talk about it, she'd say so.
Instead it was easy for Riv to focus on the fact that Lucia's fingers were twirling in his hair now. He'd even completely glossed over the comment about Roux, recalling that Lucia didn't like him and knowing that it wouldn't make the girl happy if Riv suddenly started defending the icy Raevan. And, well, Riv could understand that someone wouldn't like Roux; he can be a jerk sometimes, even if he was mostly nice to Rivener.
Smiling with all the sensuality he used to direct towards Roux, Riv floated an inch closer to the cat-girl, memorizing that address for future use. "I certainly would sneak over at night. I'll snatch you from your room and we'll escape into the sky!"
...And then what? Riv's brain asked him annoyingly. Before Rivener would be able to answer that, he had to deal with the all-too-aware feeling of his lips, since he'd now leaned so close to Lucia's... He paused there, wondering if he really should do this. The action he used to do so easily before, it... it seemed like something he shouldn't just do willy-nilly.
Clearing his throat, Rivener pulled away slightly, cheeks flushing and red eyes glancing to the side. He didn't want to kiss Lucia if she didn't know what it meant! ...and really, Rivener wasn't quite sure what it meant either. "W-we should probably find Eiry now," he said quietly, hoping he hadn't upset her with his hesitation.

Lucia smiled half way at Rivener as he leaned closer and unknowingly continued to feed her internal fairy tale. ”Yes, you should,” she whispered barely audibly. Rivener certainly knew the seductive tricks to draw the kitten in. Her eyes closed as she imagined the scenario. Escaping into the sky would be romantic, she thought, not really understanding the nature of romance. It definitely fit in, even if it wasn’t horseback. But she didn’t have a butt with which to sit on a horse, so maybe escaping into the sky would be even better. Floating into the sky -- in her fantasy she wasn’t afraid of heights -- they would float away from Yuurei and Jacob, wherever he was, and float up into the sky. Ignoring physics laws they would find a cloud to rest on and look at the moon and stars and there would be no scary ghosts or dreams where she wasn't her but was Jacob. Rivener would be there and they would --
Feeling Rivener’s breath on her face she opened her eyes and they went wide. What was he doing? Why was his face so close to hers? In the fairy tales and romance stories Yuurei left in the library the girl was always kissed after the knight saved her. Not before. They weren't floating on a cloud yet. Shrugging internally, her eyes still awkwardly open and staring at his face, her glossy lips parted slightly and she looked at his lips cross-eyed as she tried to figure out what to do to mimic the tales. As the scorpion-raevan backed away and cleared his throat at the moment she tried to view his lips, Lucia’s ridiculous cross-eyed kissy face was apparent.
Only as Rivener spoke did she notice why she could no longer view the slight pink of his lips and looking up at him she closed her mouth and turned away from him. She obviously had the wrong impression and maybe he just leaned forward for something else. Her cheeks blushed deeper than normal and she felt water filling her eyes. The cat-girl did not like to be embarrassed. However, Rivener’s question reminded her that seeing the frei was not her only purpose for coming to his house.
”What are your powers and how do you eat?” she asked bluntly in an odd response to Rivener’s desire to find his brother. Lucia was trying to do two things: get back to her original reason for coming and remove her embarrassment. These were the questions she wanted to ask the scary ghost raevan she heard about, this Eiry, but there was no reason not to ask the raevan with whom, until a few moments ago, she had been completely comfortable.

Rivener could tell he'd upset her, even if he wasn't sure of the cause. Was she sad that he hadn't kissed her? Was she uncomfortable because Riv had crossed the boundary of personal space? Was she confused because she didn't know what almost happened? Thankfully (and unknowingly), Rivener's eyes had been to the side when he pulled away, so Lucia's hilarious kissy-face hadn't been seen. The Scorpion raised a hand behind his head, scratching, wondering what the hell he should say now. The atmosphere was tense, awkward...
Lucia's question, so out of the blue, caught him by surprise. Rivener blinked and glanced back at the cat-girl, his arm dropping from behind his head. "Erm... I-I, uh..." Rivener cleared his throat, regaining his composure and trying to convince himself that nothing happened. "I eat night. Well, that is to say, I look up at the night sky and I feel full. But it doesn't work with pictures of the sky, it has to be real sky. And my powers... I can make poison. From my stingers." Riv pointed to his wings, flaring them open unconsciously to display himself properly. "All kinds... a-although I don't really like to do that much." At least, not anymore.
"What about you? What are you powers and what do you eat?" Rivener smiled sheepishly, hoping they were on the way to being okay with each other, although it didn't quite feel right just yet.

Lucia nodded slightly, taking in the information. That's why he wanted to escape into the sky, though she did not make the connection out loud to avoid bringing back the embarrassing moment. She preferred just ignoring the distance between them until the problem went away. She ran her fingers through her hair to smooth it out and pursed her lips, trying to spread out her remaining lip gloss. Lucia looked up at the blue sky and tried to picture it dark and sparking with light as seen from this balcony, rather than her own. "You don't really have to go anywhere then. . . " She smiled, thinking about not having to go to graveyards and encounter terrifying souls.
With the explanation of his powers, Lucia looked at the scorpion-raevan and for the first time examined the parts that she realized he came from. She never paid attention to the differences between them, but Josh's explanation and the talk of powers made the frei realize that Rivener didn't have cat ears, but a set of horns. Rather than bat-like wings, the male frei had appendages resembling scorpion tails and joints with connecting skin to hold him up. They were made from different things, and the only thing that made them similar was the way they were made. The kitten raevan's brow furrowed, slightly confused, but she moved on.
"If I touch the stingers, will you poison me?" Lucia tentatively reached out a hand and gently ran her fingers up rounded bone of the wing that lead to the stinger. She paused before reaching the top and pulled her hand away. The aural kinesthetic learner needed to hear about and feel or do what she was being told about to really understand it. She nodded slightly, and realized that she would not like to be able to poison. She could understand why he wouldn't like it.
Lucia, however, was not expecting the question to be rebounded on her. While poisoning wasn't a power she wanted, looking at the sky to eat was so much less morbid than visiting a graveyard and eating . . . who knows what. And her powers, to interact with not only ghosts but spirits of the dead, mostly made her sad. "Umm. I go to . . . visit Nana Lucia occasionally to eat." She tried to think of how to word it so it wasn't so gloomy and awkward. She didn't want to come out and say I don't know what I eat, but it's something like corpses, or mourning. "I eat graveyards." That was so not the way she wanted to put it. The cat-raevan's cheeks burned red again. "Umm. . . I mean . . ." Lucia closed her mouth, unsure of how to recover from that blurt. She wouldn't look up at Rivener, her choice of delicacy was too eerie. Her ear closest to the frei twitched annoyingly, but she wouldn't fix it until she finished answering his question.
"As far as my powers, well they're not much better. I see the souls, the spirits, whatever of animals and people that have died. Recently. And ghosts." She took a breath trying to say everything about her powers without looking Rivener in the eye. Instead she focused on the surrounding woods. "And I can talk to them. And touch them if I try hard. . . . Or if they try hard." The last sentence was whispered, but in her mind's eye she saw Jacob's hand reaching out flashing across her face. Only the sting was felt before she passed out and -- Lucia's eyes went from staring and day dreaming at the woods to snapping on Rivener's to see if he hated her for being so macabre. She didn't know if she liked herself with her powers and eating habits; how could Rivener like her? Her still twitching ear was momentarily forgotten.

Rivener had at first been confused about her eating preference. She ate at Nana Lucia's house? Dust maybe, if the Nana was dead and gone. A moment later the girl simply blurted out the meat of the matter: she ate graveyards. Rivener blinked. Like, tombstones? Souls? Gravedirt? The flowers people left there? That was a very vague, all-encompassing declaration. Riv opened his mouth to ask for details, but Lucia continued on to her powers. She seemed so uncomfortable about all this.
After she was apparently done, her purple eyes snapped to Rivener as though expecting some kind of reaction out of him. He just looked at her normally, as though he still thought she had more to say. Seeing that nothing else was forthcoming, he shrugged and smiled. "Okay. Actually those powers are a lot like Eiry's. He can see and interact with ghosts too, although old or new doesn't matter. Actually, this house is really very haunted. There was this one bad ghost lately, but he's dead now... Ah, and thanks to Eiry I developed a poison against ghosts!" Riv looked proud, although a moment later he shifted his eyes. "Ahem, uhm... don't tell Aphi I can do that. H-he kinda doesn't know, it's a secret power." He winked.
"Anyway, there's probably a ghost or two in the attic, right now. Did you wanna go see them? If nothing else, the kid-ghost is often there, I forget his name. Peter? Percy? ...don't recall. But he's a nice kid. Oh, right, and we should look for Eiry! He'd probably be in the basement... What do you want to do?"

Lucia breathed a soft sigh, a whisper of air escaping between her lips, and she looked up at the male raevan, the embarrassment and fear from before erased from her face and mind. Lucia paused for a little, listening to Rivener explain everything and offer her options. Rather than respond, she did what her insticts told her to do, and she wrapped her arms around Rivener in a gentle hug.
She backed away slightly and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry. Umm, I'd actually really like to meet Eiry. It's at least partly why I came here and I see ghosts and souls all the time, so I'd rather not have to see more, especially if they're happy. That's all I try to do, make them happy. And don't worry. I won't share your secret. It's safe with me." She looked at him, her eyes not shining from wetness, but from the sun again.
Pursing her lips, Lucia eyed Rivener with her bedroom eyes, reached into her top and pulled out a slim tube of lip gloss. Twisting off the cap and pulling out the shiny applicator, she slathered the gloss on her lips, making them shine a soft pink and put the gloss back in its hiding place in her bra. Running her fingers through her hair to smooth it out, she smiled at the scorpion raevan and said, 'Lead the way!"

Rivener was startled by the sudden hug, blinking in confusion for a moment before reaching down and hugging back if only for a small moment. Lucia pulled away a moment later, leaving Rivener feeling warm and-... and special. He'd done something right, apparently, since the cat Raevan was now perfectly alright, no longer upset.
Riv had been about to say something about Eiry, but he suddenly couldn't remember what that was. He was captivated by those purple eyes, half-lidded and sultry. He was hypnotized by that delicate hand as it reached up and into the leather bodice (holycrap!), retrieved lip gloss, and applied it to full, pink, gorgeous lips. The lip gloss disappeared again in the leather barely-there clothing (holyCRAP!). Soft black hair was then flicked through those fingers, fluffing it up...
Rivener didn't know much about sex drives and what have you, but he knew about the crazy effect girls could have on boys, making them stupid... Lucia definitely had that power.
A moment later a small flare of jealousy sprang to life in Riv. She said lead the way; she'd been getting ready for Eiry. Rivener frowned slightly and headed out the bedroom, indeed leading the way downstairs.
"So, did you prepare yourself like that before you knew you'd be seeing me?" the Scorpion asked, hoping the girl said yes. Rivener wanted to feel like he was someone she wanted to impress too. Not just Eiry.

Lucia smirked at the momentarily dumbfounded Rivener and then floated after him. The question on the way down startled her. She didn't realize she did anything special. "What do you mean? I didn't do anything special. Lip gloss, hair. And if I had a mirror I'd probably make sure I looked perfect." She paused and smiled.
She read about this before. The jealous boyfriend. She grabbed his hand and pulled him to a stop. "You're special for two reasons. One: you get to see me not looking perfect. Two: You know where I keep my lip gloss. And yes, I prepared myself even more and twice as often for you." Winking she used her free hand to motion ahead telling Rivener to continue towards his brother. She kept on holding his other hand, hoping he wouldn't pull it away.

Rivener had frowned as she explained that she'd be trying even harder if she had a mirror. Good thing he was facing away from her, starting down the steps. He was suddenly tugged to a stop by her hand on his, and he turned to look at her over a shoulder, still frowning slightly.
The frown dissolved into a look of floored amazement as she said he was special. As she said he knew secrets about her that no one else knew. That she'd prepared herself with even more of a fuss for seeing Rivener. And that wink...
Without thinking, Riv floated towards her and leaned in quickly, pressing his lips to hers. "Nh!" He breathed out in surprise at his own action, pulling away a moment later looking stunned and bedroomy at the same time. Recovering quickly enough (after all, this wasn't his first time kissing someone), he smiled at her in his best sultry fashion. "I'm glad I'm special to you," he whispered before turning slowly back to the stairs, keeping her hand in his and pulling her down to the main floor.
He neared the grate in the floor, the first place he'd try to look. "Now, my brother's been a little out of sorts lately, so he might not talk a lot... Eiry?" Riv called after the warning, lowering himself to the grate. "Eiry are you in there? You have a visitor!"

Lucia's eyes went wide as Rivener kissed her, and, rather than trying to look at his lips again, the cat-raevan quickly slid her eyelids shut as a breath of air went into her mouth. She puckered a little, her soft lips parting slightly, as she kissed back. And then it was over and her eyes flickered open a soft smile lighting her face. Lucia giggled sweetly, pursing her lips together, "Now my lip gloss is a mess again."
She floated without any weight, but let herself be pulled downstairs by Rivener until the frei called out to his brother and they waited for a response.
