She hadn’t actually committed to them yet? Maybe there was still time to dissuade her. Aquila pawed uncertainly at the ground, wondering what she should do now. Verity would know the fastest route to Fyhi, and would be able to help her find her erstwhile sibling. able, however, was not willing and come to that she doubted she could put up with the haughty mare for long enough to reach the mountains. No, she would find her own way there; last thing she wanted was to indebt herself to the tall creature that was now moving away from her without even a backward glance...
Should she go after her sister right now, or go home? No, no definitely better to make sure Verity was being truthful with her, and to stop Sekhmet from joining the herd if she could... But what if it really would make her happy. Aquila bit her lip, resenting the moral dilemma she’d just hit upon. It wasn’t her life in the end, right? She couldn’t tell Sekhmet what to do, what to think, where to spend her days no matter how much she might hate the people that the striped girl was (apparently) intending to join.
Deflating somewhat, the stocky mare gave herself a shake and turned in the direction of the river she’d drunk from earlier in the day. A dip in the cool water would make her feel better; after that she could move on, and hope against hope that she was in time, and that Sekhmet would listen to reason.

She could hear the soft clop of hooves; Aquila was moving away. Undine relaxed considerably, snorted, to herself and increased her pace to a brisk trot; now that the other mare wasn’t looking she planned to put a good distance between them before the drek decided to follow after her. Trot for a while, and then a bit of flight. She could probably reach Yisi by nightfall if she pushed herself, and then she would feel safer; plenty of cover among the dripping trees. After that, it wouldn’t be too long until she reached home, and then she would be able to relax properly again.
Once she’d talked to Xla.
And once she’d sorted out how she could use her new abilities to help the herd.
And talked to the Queen about that.
Undine sighed to herself and trotted onward; her to-do list never did stop growing. All she could do was trail determinedly on after it, and hope that she got to the end before a new item was added just once in a while.
