He had learnt very quickly as a foal that she was the affectionate sort. She was gentle, considerate and cuddly. She had found her path to walk down and it obviously involved showering love upon every little thing or creature she happened to meet. The simplest of pleasures would have appealed to her, or so he suspected by the manner in which she smiled and giggled at the slightest thing. As a result, he was slowly accepting that such demonstrations of affection would continue into adulthood and he would have to get used to it (again) regardless of the conflicting emotions it may cause. Perhaps they would be fleeting and he would recover after further time in her company...?
Alas he was ever so slightly taken aback by her sudden moment of clarity. The retort she had provided in response to his teasing had been so quick that he hadn't initially heard it. So bemused was he by this that he craned his neck slightly and regarded her more thoughtfully. Even as she cuddled further against him, glowing amber orbs followed closely. Apparently, while she may often be naive and innocent she had moments where something clicked. Evidently he had to be thankful for this and partially suspected that it was such moments of clarity that had helped ensure her safety.
Combine this with luck.
...And helpful individuals.
No doubt even as she had drifted through the forests and plains in search of her family she had met and encountered many individuals who had continued to watch her for just a little longer to keep her out of trouble. Hidden angels, all of which he extended his gratitude towards - even the spirits had his thanks. Meddling as they might have been, they had ensured that she was still intact by the time he had come of age and was able to find her.
A small smile developed on his lips after a short while. He continued to listen to her chatter, admittedly for a while her chatter was otherwise mundane. However, it wasn't long until she picked up on the former topic of conversation and spoke of her flying. Words could not have described how delighted he was when she accepted though! Granted his wings were much different than anything with feathers but the spirits knew he had observed his Grandfather enough to know how the Angeni ones worked. More to the point, thermals and landings were easy enough for any soquili when they learnt the safest techniques.
Unfortunately, this meant he wouldn't be dive bombing anytime soon!
"Well then it's settled," he mused at last, tickling the tips of her feathers with the spiked tips of his own wings. He relaxed his neck a little to relieve the tension within the muscles and chuckled. "I'll teach you how it's done, though you have to pay attention and trust me, you know?" he continued, returning his wing to it's 'cuddle' position around her form.
"So when I say you have to run really fast and jump, you've got to do it...alright?"

The young mare was absolutely beaming. Turning her black and blue gaze up towards the stallion before her, she couldn't help but swish her tail happily behind her. So it was all settled then - he was going to teach her how to fly and not crash! Oooooh, she was ever so lucky to have such a great best-friend! A sliver of her wondered if all friends were as great as Penance, and if everyone had such a great relationship with their glowing eyed buddies. . . . She wondered about her sisters, and any relationships they had developed but her mind couldn't linger on such thoughts for long. Too soon was she pulled back to what Penance was saying, the importance of his words and his need to know her trust.
Slowly, ever so reluctantly, she moved back from his embrace. She kept her wings spread and stretched towards him, so at least some portion of them were still in contact with the ebony male. Smile still planted firmly upon her features, she pushed her nose against his own and giggled lightly at the contact. "No need to fret, Numi trusts her Penny, oh yes she does!" Nodding, to further prove her point, she reached over and gave him a gentle nuzzle against his cheek. "When you say jump, I'll jump, and flap my wings as hard as I can just so I can fly for you! And not crash in to things." The idea of actually landing and not stubbing her knees or nose was thrilling to the mare. Even better was the fact that she'd get to continue spending time with her bestest friend and protector - oh how much fun it would be! She'd get to keep him in her life longer than a day and his father wouldn't keep him away.
"So when do we start?" Her rump wriggled a bit as excitement began to course through her veins. Today had been absolutely wonderful! Reunited with an old friend and one who had grown up ever so strong and handsome! Just wait until Minuet and Ennuiel heard about this discovery!
A little flap of her wings and a few falling of feathers did cause the mare to blink. Glancing at her molting wings, her face contorted to a small frown. Craning her neck, she reached forward and pulled out a mouthful of feathers before looking back to Penance. She held them out before him, as if giving him an offering, before letting them drop to the ground. "This isn't going to stop Numi from learning how to fly today, is it?" Silly molten feathers. . . . They always were posing problems.

Given that the stallion lacked feathers (for the most part), he wasn't entirely certain as to how badly her capabilities would have been affected by the excessive molting. If it had been one or two feathers he would have assumed that everything would be fine, but the sight of clumps of feahers tumbling from her dainty wings was another thing entirely. While he wasn't versed in feathered flight he was fairly certain that those feathers were fundamentally important in terms of being able to fly properly...if at all. Thus, with such musings in mind he found himself in a rather difficult position due to how intent she seemed on learning immediately.
It appeared that a distraction was needed and Penance wracked his brain for an appropriate exucse. He was more than happy to teach her but would only do so when the conditions were right. As a result she needed to have good wings, a full stomach and she needed to be concentrating. Now, according to his immediate observations she didn't have particularly stable wings at present and she appeared to be distracted to an extent. Unfortunately he wasn't about to upset her again by pointing out either of these things and instead...
"We start in a little while," he replied at last, the small smile clambering onto his lips again as he heard her declaration of trust. Ah if there was one thing (among many) that he would savour, then it would be all the wonderful things she said to him. Really, there were so few in the world that could make him start and flutter quite as much as the petite mare. He was fairly certain she didn't even know she was doing it!
"However for the time being I would suggest we get some food," he continued. He had been exploring and making his way down the slopes for a number of hours and had yet to find a suitable place to feed. He was too far from the coasts to taste this legendary 'seaweed' and he was too far inland to taste the mosses that lurked at the base of the trees. As such he was at a bit of the loss!
"Food and some more sight seeing, I only just arrived you know," he confessed softly and nudged at her neck gently, canting his head to one side as he observed her ever changing expression. Evidently she wasn't thrilled by her molting wings but he had seen birds molt and could only assume it was natural, baby feathers disappearing for stronger and more adult feathers? It was something he would have to ask his grandfather at some point, if only to know for conversational purposes.
"Before we start I'd like to see some of the other secrets this palce has to offer, know anywhere good?" He continued, swivelling his ears around as he at last furled his wings against his sides and gave a slight shake to relieve the tension in his muscles. "Ponds, lakes, groves, meadows...?"

Numielle was indeed disappointed that she would not learn how to fly at this exact moment; what if he forgot or changed his mind? Furthermore, she wanted to come back and show her mother just how well she was learning! Perhaps Nimue would be impressed by her daughters great ability to learn? It would be nice . . . and that way her mother could forget to worry about Numielle when she did fly.
There would be no more crashing, no more tumbling, no more wrecks and close calls. Her bruises would dissipate and she could actually appreciate the grace and art of flying. Wouldn't it be amazing? And if Penance taught her she would have an actual friend to fly with! That way she wouldn't be so alone in the sky. . .
Shuffling her dual sets of wings, the mare tossed her mane out of her eyes and gave a small sigh. Her smile was quick to return as he suggested locating something to eat, and further excitement grew when he suggested sight seeing! "Oooooh - I didn't realize you were so new to the area," the mare dipped her head a bit, careful of her horn and his close proximity to her. "But I know of some greener pastures and where the sweetest treats grow!" She would make sure he ate well this day, only the best for her best-friend!
Given, it was autumn and many of the sweet grasses and pastures were dying and becoming more and more scarce, but Numielle would make do. There was beauty everywhere and she had a knack of finding it everywhere she went. Given, Numielle could find a mud puddle amazing, but that was besides the point. Sometimes one had to make their own beauty lest be overwhelmed by the ugliness that the world could possess.
"Ooooh - Numielle likes secrets, and has her own secret places!" He shouldn't have said the magic 's' word, for a mare like Numielle was always investigating something new. Giving him one last cuddle and nuzzle, the mare walked past him and was now on a mission. She knew the most wonderful and spectacular place to take him. . . . .
Given, there were always lovely places to see, but this one had been her most favorite as a filly. Well, one of her most favorites, leave it Numielle to dub everyone and where he 'most favorite-favorite'. "Come, let me show you around. . . . I promise it'll be a grand adventure." Beaming up at him, she hoped he would say yes. If he wanted lakes, ponds, groves, and meadows she would show him all of the land she had grown up around. . .starting with a few of her secret places.
It worked. Any disappointment she had felt at being unable to fly was swiftly wiped clean from her heart and mind. Chipper as ever, the young mare had a new mission and flight was the last thing on her mind.

In the back of his mind there was a small part of him that hoped that eventually she would relax and realise that he wouldn't forget. Unfortunately the manner in which she had been raised had planted that seed of doubt and uncertainty but perhaps in time, and with further company from him she would realise that he didn't have the memory of a trout. He could think positively in that regard, he had been raised by a mother and grandmother who were both permanently optimistic so it was rather difficult not to follow suit to a point. He had his father's discipline but had managed to avoid the negativity that had often plagued his father's mind on a regular basis.
Alas while he couldn't find a mud puddle to be fascinating he was fairly certain that he could find other things fascinating while nearby it. This afternoon would have been of no exception as the mare drifted away and he found himself inexplicably drawn to look at her rump. The amount of incoherent swearing that began to ripple through his mind at this instant was startling and it took all his effort to pull himself out of the gutter. A shake of his head and he quickly followed after the mare, ensuring that he was out of 'range' of that particular view again.
What was wrong with him?
Clearing his throat the stallion matched the mare's pace yet provided her with at least a head's length of distance between them to ensure she kept the lead. Ever vigilant, he kept his eyes open for any sign of danger and yet ensured his expression calm and interested mostly in what the petite mare had to say. She had always been a chatter-bug from what he remembered - often repeating her words with such enthusiasm that they became positively infectious. Granted he was already overly enthusiastic in the sense that he had relocated his friend and fulfilled his promise at last but the opportunity to encounter things that he wouldn't otherwise see was delightful as well.
"Well, on the slopes the grasses are not always green so it would be wonderful to taste something sweet," he agreed at last, flicking his tail against his flank as he furled his wings tighter against his body. "Mosses are more befitting at this time of year, you know?" he flashed a smile and caused his fangs to protrude briefly from his upper lips. He'd never lost his boyish charms even as his features had matured.
"So where to first, my lady Numi?" he offered at last with another of his smiles. He was still young after all and the prospect of further adventure was certainly exciting. He was prepared for some of it to be mundane and otherwise 'cutesy' given her nature, but other things he expected to be quite the surprise. After all, individuals had the ability to find common ground between each other when it came to scenary and hidden beauty. Another opportunity to connect and get to know how she had changed over the last few years...

The young mare knew exactly where she was going. The surrounding area had been her stomping ground for years, and though she wasn't often the sharpest tack in the wall, she wasn't a complete moron. Not. . . not really. The young mare had her favorite spots and no matter how distracted she might be she did know how to get to each and every location. She wasn't a little lost filly any longer, no siree. . . .
She was fast maturing and it showed...most of the time, at any rate.
Unless life experience overwhelmed the young mare, she still had time to finish growing in to her hooves. Mentally she was still innocent and sweet as ever and such a personality was almost guaranteed to take longer to blossom. But with a little time and a little stability within her life, namely Penance, there was a good chance she would bloom in to quite the extraordinary mare. All she needed was a little more experience and time.
"It can be tricksy sometimes," she added with a little chuckle, "especially when everything is covered in snow or frozen. But I know some secret spots. . . " And he was going to love them! Or so she anxiously hoped.
Delicate cloved hooves guided Penance swiftly out of the plains and in to the surrounding thicket and woods. She was a mare on a mission, a small smile highlighting her features as she guided the stallion through the woods. Though autumn had stripped many trees of their colour, the trot to where she was leading him was still beautiful. "Careful, careful!" She added with a little hop, wings fluttering softly as the terrain began to dip in a slope. "It can get pretty steep," she added with a small giggle, hardly pausing in her advance despite the shift in terrain.

Stability was something that the stallion had been granted his entire life. Where neither parent had been blessed with such a thing, it seemed they had strived to provide it to their children. He had a set of odd grand parents who doted on him and his mother and father too. His father showed affection in an odd sort of way but Penance had grown up in a stable and secure environment with reassurances that family and aid would always be within his reach if he chose to come home. He had no complaints, he simply couldn't complain for that reason alone!
Nevertheless from the day he had met Numielle and she had described her family he had sworn that he would take care of her. It had been a naive and childish promise, but it had stayed and he was still determined. He would be there for her in a way her family couldn't. He wouldn't walk away from her to find another and he certainly wouldn't forget her. If she needed to cry or hide then she was completely welcome to hide beneath his wings though he hoped it would never come to that. When it came to life lessons though, that was something even he couldn't teach.
...He was still learning in his own right.
Alas such things were pointless to dwell over and instead the stallion simply followed the mare as she wove in and out of the trees. It was obvious this was her home territory, she navigated it with ease where he was required to pause, duck and dive on numerous occasions. It was at times like these when he envied his brother's small size, but on the other hand how often would his brother be able to embrace of cuddle a mare in quite the same way as Penance...eh?
Somewhere deep inside him, something exploded and he winced. Clearly his morals and their keeper was knocking rather loudly at his perversion. But it couldn't be helped! He had always struggled to be blase about things and now the mare was shaking her rump and doing little bunny hops across the forest floor. They were unintentional (gods he knew they were) but he was still reeling from the fact that she wasn't small anymore and she was acutally...incredibly pretty.
Stunning even.
"I..." He lifted his leg and dodged a fallen tree trunk as he pursued the mare, closing his wings tightly round his body as he progressed. "I assure you I will be all right Numielle, I am not clumsy," he teased lightly, a faint smile on his lips as he attempted desperately to rein in his already raging hormones. Oh gods he knew he had sworn an oath to protect her but it was certainly going to take some getting used to!

Numielle was deliriously happy. Though she wasn't able to fly and her wings were still bothersome (even in her race down the slopes she was leaving a trail of feathers) everything was well. She honestly couldn't have asked for more than to be reunited with her best friend. . . . and the spirits had come through!
Penance was amazing as far as she were concerned. He hadn't lost his boyish charms and had brought her a gift! His cuddles left her yearning for his embrace and if she stared at him too long she felt her stomach tickle and her nose burn. The very nose that had been stained black just because of him!
And now, very soon, she would take him to her very favorite place! Giggling at his response to her caution, the winged mare responded gently, "You may not be clumsy but that doesn't mean the twigs and roots aren't going to try to trip." Even the most sure footed could tangle up, but she knew with confidence that the stallion trailing her would be just fine.
Swishing her tail, her pace increased as the ground began to even out. The soil had begun to grow moist, even with winters fast approach, and the thick scent of water and earth tickled the nose. "Come on, we're almost there!" She half squealed, her trot turning in to an all out run.
It had been too long since she'd visited her favorite spot, and the rush of a river was fast growing in to what was a pounding roar. Even with uneven terrain surrounding them, Numielle didn't dare stop, almost as if she were chasing some sort of dream. She didn't dare want to wake up from this wonderful event and feared what might happen if her legs ceased their journey; with the roar of the water becoming all but deafening, Numielle pushed through a small barrier of foliage and appeared happily at the waters edge.
Wings half spread, the mare stared up at the great falls, admiring its beauty as it slid down the rocks and in to the rolling river. Radiant smile etched upon her features, she held her breath as she turned to study Penance's reaction. "This is Numi's favorite spot!" She reminded with a giggle, panting from her great escape down the slopes. "Does Penny . . . like?" Ooooh, she hoped he would!
It was pretty.
It was the prettiest thing Numielle had ever seen, outside of her necklace, mind. And with luck, her best-friend could enjoy the scenery too. Oh, how she wanted him to like it. . . . very, very much!

She made him sound like some sort of Casanova, that 'yearning' and tickling sensation that she felt upon his touch. Really it would have been somewhat fascinating for any observing soquili to watch the dance between teenagers. Hormones were a terrible thing to handle, he had a hold on them but it wasn't a firm one and the presence on the petite mare was enough to make him crumble. Had his brother been here a series of joking insults would have been thrown regarding his behaviour and Penance would have been left as a quivering wreck as he attempted to regain his composure - only to have said composure 'devoured' by the simple touch of an inquisitive and overly affectionate mare. Aha, what a horrid world that he lived in! How many males would kill to be in his position, in the company of such a gorgeous creature who expected nothing more than a cuddle and reassurance that he was happy?
Urgh, that being said...
His expression darkened considerably as the mare turned away from him and continued to guide him through the forest. Quick to match her pace and her direction, he found it easy to keep up despite his rampant thoughts. Yes, there were many stallions who would have killed to be in her company but he could think of many more of those stallions who would be more than happy to push the boundaries. It didn't so much frighten him as anger him, that somewhat darker and over protective side inherited from his father more than prepared to stomp off and beat up any stallion that so much as gave a lustful gaze. Ah the irony that he was one of those stallions!
...But at least he could contain himself right?
He sighed softly, renewing his promise to ensure his friend remained safe and shook the disgruntled expression from his face. It was just in time as well, because no sooner had he shifted this expression than the mare turned round and cooed for him to hurry up in her own exciteable fashion. Unware of the brooding and the mini stormcloud following behind her at random intervals. In a manner of speaking he envied that optimism but then again, she was like his mother in that regard...she was his sunshine, just like Bella was his father's sunshine and probably the wind that blew the grumpy storm cloud away.
Nevertheless he wasn't permitted to dwell further on the topic as the thunderous roar reaches his ears and caused goes to twitch in anticipation. The nearer they drew the louder it became and beneath his hooves he could already feel the ground quivering. Uneven as it might have been the pulsing of such a powerful force could be felt and his curiosity was piqued - to say he wasn't impressed by what she had to show him would have been highly inaccurate.
"Good grief," he murmured softly, coming to a halt by the mare as she stopped. Amber eyes trailed over the river at first only to be carried up towards the waterfall. Single waterfalls he had seen before, there were many in the hills, but to see one with so many dips and lulls was quite a spectacle in itself!
"You really know how to find treasure Numielle," he offered after a few moments. "It's...incredible."

Numielle couldn't help but beam at Penance with pride. At first she had been concerned that the ebony stallion wouldn't be pleased with their first adventure; she adored the waterfalls herself, and often came to enjoy the scenery as well as play in the roaring waters. But what if Penance had seen many a fall before? They were special to Numielle because of sentimental reasons, maybe they wouldn't be quite so striking to her best friend.
Still, his awestruck look and comments were enough to tickle her pink! Her smile grew and her black and blue eyes twinkled with merriment. He genuinely seemed impressed by the view, and even better, seemed to like it! At least. . .at least she hoped he did. Giving him an affectionate head butt, nuzzles his neck and cheek fondly, the mare turned back to gaze at the waterfall. "It's big, and loud, but one of Numi's favorite treasures. Yep, yep, yep!"
Giggling softly, the mare gave her friend one final nose before breaking contact with him. She did allow the tip and safe part of her tail to brush against his hind leg and side as she trotted forward, edging closer and closer to the waters. The spray of the water was cool and produced rainbows against the stray sunlight that entered the woods. "Does Penny like to play in the water? Winter'll make it much too cold," she added softly, almost sadly, treading out to the middle of the stream. It was cold already, but not enough to keep the fuzzy mare out. Shallow as it, the mare liked it because it was just deep enough to splash in and not enough to cause one fatigue. The bubbling and wave waters tickled her belly and were merely fun overall. . .
The small spot was a fabulous haven away from the heat during summer. A shame that winter was so close at hand. Lowering her head, she stole a moment to drink, allowing her friend to decide if he wanted to stay shorebound or not.

This wasn't fair. She wasn't fair. Oh he knew that everything she did was innocent and without harm but he reeled with every touch and if he was honest, would be more the happy to swim in ice cold water for an eternity if he had to. He took a breath as her tail swept against his flank and closed his eyes briefly to recover his composure. Piece by piece it was crumbling and that terrible rogue male beneath was beginning to creep forward. He envied his father now, admired him more than ever for the insane amount of discipline it must have taken him to resist his mother for as long as he had - but how in the name of all that was good and holy was this stallion supposed to hold his own against...well against Numielle!
Azumoth had never permitted his mother to touch him, when she had he had shied away. However if Penance opted to shy away or chastise Numielle for her affectionate nuzzles there would be more tears, heartache and betrayal than he cared to admit. Frankly he was astonished that she hadn't been pressed upon by any stallion yet, with her cuddly nature the gods should have been well aware of the mixed signals she was tossing out. Urgh, he lived in a cruel and hellish world sometimes. For all it's beauty, the world itself enjoyed dragging him down into the gutter where he shouldn't have been.
...He'd been raised better than this.
"Numielle forgets that Penance lives in the mountains, methinks," Penance teased after a few moments. Opening his eyes, he offered a somewhat tight smile and without any form of hesitation stalked into the water. Ice cold as it may have been upon such an abrupt entrance, it was enough to send shockwaves across his form and to send temptation right back into the depths of his brain where it belonged! Granted he wasn't capable of splashing with quite so much vigor as Numielle given his size, but he was capable of wading back and forth with his lips pursed in thought.
"You know Twinks, even in winter you can still play in the water...you just have to be careful you don't stay in for too long," he pointed out after a few moments and chuckled. Ah the days he could recall clambering out of the water only to dive up against his mother (or into his dad's hair) for warmth. "Provided you rub most of the water off you can stay...pretty warm," he explained, choosing not to divulge the various methods of keeping warm as his perverted side reared it's ugly head again.
"Just a thought, you know?" he croaked.

"Is there lots of water in the mountains?" Numielle asked, lifting her head and canting her head to the side questioningly. Where she lived near the woods and grasslands, she hadn't spent much time high in the hills. She hadn't had a chance to properly explore the slopes and therefor could only guess what it was like. . . .
So she was a little simple. There were moments of clarity within her, rare as they were, but the young mare hadn't had much of an education. She possessed the mind of a child and had yet to truly grow up. Such a thing would take time - a lot of time - and there was a chance she would walk in her mothers footsteps and never truly see the world clearly. Only time would tell, and some life experience.
Shuffling her wings, black and blue eyes watched with delight as her ebony friend trudged in to the waters. Her tail swished faster behind her as she listened to him explain about the joys of winter water, and the mare felt her despair wane. Glancing down at the water, she giggles and wriggled her rump happily. "Well then," she added, wings spreading in delight, "maybe I will get to swim when the snows come! Numi's furry," she explained, lifting a hoof to show him her plush feathering around her ankles, and her plush winter coat beginning to grow. "But I never thought about snuggling to keep warm. . . . Just like this?" She asked, bridging the distance and shoving herself once again against her friend. She wrapped her neck around his own and did her best to bury herself within him.
What. .. she liked snuggles.
Even more, she liked her friend, and found herself wanting any excuse and reason to continue to snuggle. "You make a good snuggly. . . in fact, I think Numi likes you best! Oh yes, yes she does!" She added with a little giggle, taking a moment to affectionately lip at his ear. If she were really lucky, he might like her best too . . . . and as a cuddly object!

'Cuddly' wasn't quite how the adolescent stallion saw his friend, cuddly could be taken in so many ways and the conflicted male required every ounce of his strength to surpress the urge to stiffen or to misbehave! It was a curse to be a being of such clarity, aware of one's own emotions when the mare who sat beside him was blissfully oblivious to the truth and weight of her own actions and words. While they were harmless in her mind and brought great joy to her they struck more chrods than were healthy within the male's chest. Piece by piece is resolve was crumbling and that was a bad thing!
In fact, everything about this meeting had been bad for him. Granted it could have been incredibly good for him if he had any intention of misbehaving but he refused to. She was gentle, unaware of what she could do to another and it was his duty to make sure that no harm befell her. There would be no mishaps, no heart break and no wailing because something had happened that shouldn't have. If he had to castrate other males or break their legs then he would do that - that was just how it was going to be.
Unfortunately for him, he couldn't afford to remain quiet for long and with a soft sigh he draped his wing lazily over the mare as she cuddled against him. In a manner of speaking he hoped that he was radiating a sufficient level of heat to keep her satisfied and yet at the same time... Ugh, he did not appreciate being so conflicted. He further understood why his father had shunned mares for so long and yet how could he possibly shun or hurt Numielle - she was HARMLESS!
Completely harmless...
"Just like this," Penance confirmed, permitting himself to slowly easy into her embrace as he became more confident that he had full control over himself once more. A small smile lined his lips as he savoured the opportunity and he sincerely hoped that he would be emitting enough heat to satisfy her demands. If he was entirely honest he wasn't sure as to how much heat mares demanded though he heard in certain seasons it was quite a lot.
"As for the mountains, there's plenty -" he hesitated briefly before chuckling and lifting his head to inspect the mare fondly. "Much bigger waterfalls than this, that's for sure. When you can fly safely I'll show you them all - sound good?"

Numielle was more than content to stand knee deep in the river waters, enveloped once more by the company of her friend. The snuggles he offered were more appreciated than he realized; it wasn't often she was able to dote upon anyone outside of her family. Even then, her sisters were often much more standoffish, and Nimue was a wandering spirit that was difficult to track down.
No, Numielle needed such contact and affection within her life; it was a constant reassurances for her and without it she often grew miserably lonely. While most required air to breathe and food to eat to survive, the red haired mare found it necessary to be loved and adored. The touch of shadows that weighed heavy upon the heart of her sisters and parents wasn't present in Numielle. . . but it did lurk close enough to make her feel lonely when no one was near. If she wasn't touching or cuddling another (preferably a friend like Penny) than her world wasn't complete.
As the ebony stallion spoke of the mountains and the great waterfalls that lurked within their peaks, Numielle's eyes lit up hopefully. Her wings spread and she gave the top most set a little flap in her anxious anticipation. "Oh, that would be most fabulous, Penance! Numi's not been to the mountains. . .well. . least not until she met you." Their meeting had been chance, and she'd only briefly met his family and his bear.
Speaking of bears. . . . "How's the fluffy Bear doing? Giru was his name," she added, just in case Penance knew multiple bear acquaintances. "You do know my sisters were ever jealous," she added with a giggle, nestling her head against his neck as she spoke. The water was cold against her legs, but she wasn't going to move for the world. At least not yet. How often did she get to share her waterfalls with her friend? Just to be safe, to make sure the memory planted itself firmly within her and her friend.

Giruvegan - now there was a bear who had drifted off into the slopes for a reason that he had failed to disclose. One day, without warning the fluffy companion had upped and left without a word. His father had remained unconcerned as the creature was a grown bear but Penance had not been entirely unaware that something hadn't been right. The night that Giruvegan had wandered off, his grandfather and father had spoken at length and it had been quite some time (if ever) that Penance had ever heard his father sound quite so restless and angry - well, it could have been worry but when it came to his father Penance had never been fully aware of his emotions when he was a foal, his voice tended to sound the same. Ah, but how to inform Numielle that her cuddly friend had disappeared into the night and hadn't been seen since?
"Last time I saw him, Giru was in good spirits," he confirmed with a smile. It wasn't a lie, when he had last seen the bear he had been healthy and strong. His eyes had been a tad glassy and he'd been somewhat distant but perhaps that was for a reason. Neither grandfather or father had disclosed what was wrong to him and he was fairly certain that his brother was as much in the dark about it as he was. "As fluffy as ever -" he added as an after thought.
Satisfied that he had answered the question properly, he flicked his gaze towards his own legs and grimaced. Tell tale fangs pressed down upon his lower lips and he noted with some discomfort that he was getting cold. Granted, Numielle could have been far colder than he (especially when he had a thicker coat) but for him to feel it was saying something. Thus it was with a gentle flick of his tail that he nudged Numielle's side and moved forward. Wading out of the water to come to rest on the banks where he could continue to savour the view without losing feeling in his limbs.
Once comfortable he ensured that his wing remained open as an invitation and continued to observe the mare as she spoke of her family. As a foal he would have frowned at reference to such an unusual upbringing and yet something had clicked with age. His expression remained largely unreadable and he appeared to merely accept that she had grown up in a family that had far more problems than was fair to them. Sisters with darker hearts, a mother who forgot you and a father who constantly sought out his mate - permitting the children to wander...
Horses for courses, he could distinctly picture his father and mother declaring that their children would explore that far (on their own) over their still warm corpses!
"I'm sure he would be delighted to know you enjoyed his company so much though, Numi - and I am sure he would not be adverse to meeting your sisters at some point as well if they wanted it," he added after a few moments. He grimaced (albeit briefly) as the wind caught his legs but was quick to remind himself that they would dry soon. Nevertheless he remained aware of the issue of his companion, he would need to watch her like a hawk to ensure she remained comfortable in that regard.
"That being said I'll show you anything you wish to see if it's in my power, I'll give you as many waterfalls if I can - you know?" he offered with a grin.
