You people are all braver than I. I don't wear anything steampunkish at all. My friends would never understand crying

I don't dress steampunk except during convention occasions, so I've never really had to explain it. But I've told my friends I was into steampunk when I first hear about it and they were all like, "Cool! Steampunk is awesome." So I guess they all knew about it before I did. xD Made me feel out of the loop.

I tried telling mum slowly. I would show her steampunk pictures of like machines and stuff but uh well she laughed and said it was stupid and pointless and Dad well, he would probably love to bad he lives in New York. Though I love to go around the pawn shops near my house and i pick up some stuff t here i ether mod or just leave as is because its awesome. My friends well I am always the "weird" one. Though anyway back to your essay, good though i don't like the cyberpunk bash there. Over all it was good

My mother thinks I'm crazy. She says I dress" like a gypsy," whether I'm wearing Steampunk, Lolita, my thrift shop finds, or clothes of my own making. stare
Oh, well.

For Christmas last year my mother thought getting me a box of broken clocks and watches (as I put on my Christmas list) would be a gag gift. Oh, the look on her face at my squeals of joy. Though the Lane Bryant gift card was not unappreciated I got a wonderful flouncy top and vest.

I've got no fear of my mother getting all uppity about how I dress or act as long as I'm not in trouble with the law...
My friends have straight up said that they don't quite get steampunk, one of them saying and I quote, "I just don't get it... It's the most out there of the fantasy genres... I mean, how do you have an automated steam turret? Steam cannot differentiate friend from foe." All I could do is laugh... He's a practical guy who's an MP and a volunteer firefighter... What was I to expect? XD
Why bother explaining things people just wont understand? I guess it'll make you both better to say that you tried to let them in on your "Secret little world", but aside from that, I don't see the point. ^_^

Rulin' ya universes... Aw, that was sweet. I think I'll save it... My mom actually likes steampunk, she keeps trying to steal my clock parts... she also bought a really awesome steampunky top in a military-ish green with rust-red details and brass buttons... I might need to steal it >_>;; My dad just doesn't ask, or care xD ...since 1992.

That was pretty much made of win. My parents know I'm an all-around geek and they don't care. As long as stuff that makes me happy doesn't involve dugs or illegal things they're cool.

I've tried to explain it to both my parents. My mom just sort of shakes her head and marks it off as another thing on my long list of geekery. My dad has become fascinated with it, though. I'm not certain what he's been up to, since I've been out here at school, but his side of the family is filled with tinkerers and technology geeks. So he's probably having fun cooking up something in the basement. biggrin

hehe! that was definitely amusing!
my mother has long since gotten over the fact that Im a bit different. I dont know if Ive ever actually mentioned 'steampunk' to my family, but i dont think they would be all that surprised. All through highschool i carried around a wind up pocket watch instead of a phone or something. I generally dont dress to out of the ordinary... just a few things here and there...
my step-father loves old stuff and things he can fix up... so he was happy that i enjoyed his massive pocketwatch collection which he likes to buy and fix up... ive gotten quite a few watches from him xd

By the sounds of it I got off easy, my Parents have always put up with whatever has caught my fancy at the time. Although now i have a place of my own, Dad is quite miffed every time I steal his tools for some project. mostly 'cause I keep them!
