Or those poor honkeys who are too lazy to get off their traller trash couch's to get a job. Instead they would rather collect their free money off the government so they can sit around watching spongebob all day eating cheetohs and multiplying like rabbits while we pay extra in taxes so they can live like that.

Its going to happen either way. But we need those poor, and we need those middle class citizens and we need those rich people to help our country be functional.

Well if you try to make things equal there will still be penny pinchers in the upstairs offices. Then you will only have rich and poor and when you only have rich and poor the poor get angry and fight for riches. The middle class holds together this society.

The USSR is a whole other story.

Not that I can exactly tell how it was in USSR. Anyway, this kind of communism was about a different thing than equality. It was about ruling the country forever based on the false imagination of a part of society that this is about equality (which wasn't successful after all, and good or you wouldn't be talking to me today). Yeah, it was equal in this sense that you could work if you only wanted, your employee rights were in fact respected and you would never suffer hunger. But I don't think this was what a human being exactly needs as far as equality is concerned.

Anyway, judging by what I know from my own experience in 80s Poland. There was a midclass. If you were an engineer, you were automatically in midclass (because you earned more than the majority of workers in factories). If you were a farmer with like over 20 ha of ground, you were automatically in midclass, because you produced enough to earn enough to be there. If you were a miner - you were automatically in midclass. The thing is that this kind midclass was not exactly what you would know from coutnries based on free market economy. But nevertheless there was midclass. And there was... something which you could compare to rich - though they were not exactly rich. They were rather the top class, because they ruled the country. The only thing I don't know is if that kind of midclass was of enough size in comparison with what you could expect in today's free market societies.

Every time I see a guy in a Hollister shirt, I feel the almost irresistable urge to punch him in the face.
