Tal nudged teh staff ever so slightly so that it drifted a little, keeping him at teh same relative distance to Mas as the other mage continued browsing the books. "As I said I think he has potential, but the purposes I intend to use him he needs to be properly honed. As it stands the poor boy can't tell a wand from a twig" Tal shook his head with a sigh, a small smile on his lips. "I won't deny that taking advantage of his naivety isn't amusing, but it'll get him killed."

At Mas' warning about Mica's true preferences, Tal let out a sad little sigh and shrugged. "Yes I'm aware.. what a waste. Still I have my hopes, the boy was practically on the verge of doing anything I could of asked to get that 'little' spell lifted. Perhaps once I've finished with him, I'll have my fun before turning him loose." Tal watched Mas closely for any sign of how the other Drow took such remarks about his brother. Just because Mas didn't want to see Mica killed didn't mean he'd care if the boy got used or abused.

Tal was also considering if he should mention the ring, it was conceivable Mas was the target, but Tal doubted that, given Mica's ease of access and the skill he'd already displayed, he could probably take Mas without the ring. Still Mas might have some idea of what Mica was after.

Well, mas certainly was not going to discourage the helpful training that Tal would be providing Mica. It would be useful to him as well eventually. Providing he could manage to keep his brother in check and assert his position as elder brother more properly. If Mica could learn his place he'd be exceptionally useful. Specifically in driving away undesierable females noseing about him.

"Micarreth has always said the magical arts were a weaklings study. I'm not surprised he knows little to nothing of magic. i am sure you'll educate him properly enough. Abyss knows he hasn't listened to a word I've said." Mas selected another book from the shelf and began to scan it's pages about the same time Tal tested him about his connection to Mica. That was what he was doing wasn't he? That lingering hint of what may or may not come about. Reguardless of Mica's whims?

Mas flipped over a page and paused. his eyes darting over the wording as he answered lightly. "My brother is ambitious. I will grant it is probably his only redeeming quality. He is quite determined and he has little in the way of moral hesitation. I've seen him flirt, bully, threaten, and inflict pain on servants in order to get what he wants out of them. It really was only a matter of time before he attempted the same tactics on someone outside of the house...My brother is fortunate you seem so...forgiving of his ploys. It has saved him a exceptionally harsh lesson."

Clipping the book closed Mas tucked it under his arm. His head lifted and he snorted softly with his nose upraised. "Pfff. What busniess wouldi t be of mine what you males do in privacy? So long as it does not end up with Mica unable to function properly or mentally scarred I am content. He'll be gaining knowledge that will be very useful later on when I need him."

A smile warmed Tal's face, he was coming to teh conclusion he liked Mas. True his initial expectations were based on a few odd stories he'd picked up investigating Mica and Mica's own less than wonderful comments on his brother. Still Tal found Mas was to his liking and if the other mage had no intention of getting in his way Tal say no reason not to try and build a repoir with Mas. After all if they worked together they might have more luck controlling Mica.

"Forgiving? Mica might have other thoughts on that. I think what I did to his precious crotch suitable punishment, no? Dead men don't learn from their mistakes and the simple joy of killing him pails in comparison to the constant joy I get every time I remember the expressions on his face. Plus I feel he'll be more cooperative now that he knows what'll happen if he forces my hand."

Tal turned and watched the other Drow, in his own way Mas was rather attractive, more mature than Mica, a sign of what the younger brother might grow into. there was something a little off about Mas, though Tal couldn't quite place his finger on it.

"I've think Mica may have sorely underestimated you... I'll let you in on a little secret. Perhaps you may have heard of a mage who met an early demise when he tried to show of a ring reputed to grant total immunity to any direct act of magic? Mica had a hand in that and as a result now holds in his possession that same ring. I intended to destroy it, but he was rather adamant he have it's use for at least a short while. I don't suppose you have any idea what the little viper is plotting?"

"Micarreth may think otherwise. But I am speaking from my own viewpoint." Mas replied. He turned to look at Tal, his eyes sweeping over his form as he considered the male. Had Tal not given prior acknowledgement to his interest in his brother, and hence males in general, mas most likely would have kept his eyes to himself. "I appreciate your decision not to kill or maim my brother. The lesson you taught him was harmless enough, and will at the very least put a bit more respect in him for mages."

When Tal spoke of the display that Mas had witnessed not too long ago, he nodded his head slightly. "Oh. I am well aware of the part Micarreth played. I was present for it. I watched him rather keenly as I did not know why he would insist on attending such a display. With me in particular. I suppose I should have seen the obvious signs of his true training. I was simply...caught unaware I suppose."

Mas lifted his free hand to gesture dismissively while closeing his blue eyes in a sigh. "Though I did not know of the ring...I have been wondering lately what he has been up to. Our resident potential Matron has been gone a good while now, and he keeps slipping out of the House. He thinks he is unobserved but it is my House and I do keep track of the events that occur within."

What was Mica up to? It was a question that he supposed really needed to be answered now. Mas needed to start pursueing his goals in earnest now... "I can have someone tail Micarreth when he next leaves the House..perhaps you can press him for some more details about his plans?"

Tal couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow at one statement there 'my House' a very bold statement for a male to make. To his knowledge there was no female heir to House Barrith, when the Matron died, which by some accounts was sometime in the very near future, there was no one to take her place. Most likely some other powerful female aligned to the House would step in and seize control, or lacking a strong leader it would come apart and be absorbed by other houses. So what did Mas mean?

Preoccupied with that thought Tal nearly missed the way Mas looked at him, as it was he wasn't sure there was anything to the look, but... Well it was a concern for another time perhaps.

"No... If Mica is training in the ways of the assassin, he'll be watchful of being followed, trailing him could well tip your hand." Assuming the boy was that aware of his surroundings, in truth Tal sometimes wondered if Mica was just playing at being an assassin, lacking the self discipline and skill to really play the part. As for pressing Mica for answers.

"Yes actually that was in part teh reason I convinced him he needed lessons, after all I can't teach him everything, so I'll be asking questions to determine the spells most useful to him and hopefully fish out a few details of this plan of his. Plus I've done everything to ensure I have as much of an advantage over him as possible."

The thought had even crossed Tal's mind that the first time Mica was over, Tal could easily subdue him with magic, tear the information out of his head and then have his pleasure before turning him out onto the street. However the ordeal would probably leave Mica very uncooperative and very, very bloodthirsty and Tal did have plans of his own. Finding out about Mica's plots was a secondary concern for Tal, though that information was no doubt more valuable to Mas.

Mas... Tal was still debating what use he could put Mas too, certainly he could be a useful source of information about Mica, but that wasn't worth a whole lot right now... "Tell me something, What exactly do you intend to do when your mother dies? As I understand it you're not exactly inclined to take a bride? But even as the eldest child you must realise a man will never be allowed to lead a house, so what do you plan on doing?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 26, 2008 8:13 pm

"Yes... I suppose that there really is no one in the House that I could employ for this matter. The raiders are loyal first and foremost to Mother, and I am afraid they would take offense if I set one of them out to tail Mica. They are too important an asset to risk insulting." So how would he manage to tail Micarreth? Mas turned his thoughts to this question for a few moments, his fingers began to stroke down the length of his long hair in a distracted manner as a result.

His blue gaze was distracted only for a few moments. He turned it back uon Tal as he considered the man's words. It was obvious how Mas could use Tal. The information of Micarreths plans was very important to him now. Tal was in a position to obtain the information. Plus...after this small encounter it was very clear he did not know as much about Mica as he had thought. This was not acceptable....

Perhaps Tal had even given him a means to satisfy himself. Mas ceased playing with his hair and tucked it back over his shoulder. "Now then. That is a very personal question you've asked of me Tal. How do I know I can trust you with my answer? Hmmm?" Mas arched one fine eyebrow at the other mage, though there was a teaseing smile uypon his lips.

"Let's barter information then shall we? You find out what you can from Micarreth concerning his plans. The more you learn...the more I will be willing to share with you of my own personal agenda."

Tal pretended to consider the offer, but he already knew the answer. Mas needed to know about Mica a lot more than Tal cared about the internal politics of House Barrith. Sighing and looking away with an aloof expression, Taliesin waved a hand dismissively. "No deal. Don't get me wrong I have no issue with ratting out your little brothers plots for you, it's just obvious this information is of some value to you. On the other hand why would your plans interest me?"

Tal looked up at Mas with a casual smile, his hands resting easily in his lap while he lounged upon the float in staff. "I only asked before out of curiosity and determine what you might have to exchange in return for the information I could give you. After all if I went form here and told your brother about this conversation, he would know you suspect something. and once he was on guard and took the right precautions you might never find out what he's up to, until it was too late anyway."

A smirk suddenly came to Tal's face as he realised the odd situation he know found himself in. "I seems to me, that my relatively minor involvement might actually be able to decide the future of House Barrith. I'm certainly not a deciding factor in which of you prevails" Yet, Tal added internally, he was already considering the ways he might be able to exploit an internal power struggle for his own gains.

"But depending on who I sided with I could be the gentle breeze that pushes things one way or the other." Taliesin held up his two hands palm up, like a set of scales, waving his left hand before continuing. "Teach Mica a few tricks and overcome his hangups about magic and the boy could be a formidable assassin, one capable of being a serious threat to you. Particularly since he'd be more inclined to marry a powerful female to ensure the Houses future." Tal then waved his right hand. "On the other hand, if I choose to funnel all his secrets and plots to you, it would be easy for you to foil his ambitions and assert your dominance as elder brother. The question for me is which scenario benefits me more?" Tal started raising and lowering his hands like scales in flux.

"So tell me why would your personal agenda be of any interest to me? I have nothing to gain or loose in teh fall of Barrith... In fact if Barrith collapsed it would leave Mica with fewer options and potentially provide me with another point of leverage against him." Truth be told Tal had a slight leaning towards Mas already, partially because he was a fellow mage but perhaps because Tal still held a slight grudge against Mica, but Tal had no intention of letting Mas know. Right now Tal seemed to have the better bargaining position, so he intended to exploit it as best he could.

Mas D'aun's pale eyes focused on Tal as he spoke. The other drow was attempting to manuver himself into a verbal position of power. Mas was very resistant to this play. He did not exhibit any sort of outwardly signs, unless one counted the calm and expresionless look upon his face. Mas allowed Tal to finish his piece. It would be incredibly rude after all to interrupt him as he spoke. Though he did not merely stand there like a statue. Mas lifted a hand to his long hair and once more began to play with it. He wrapped a length of it about a finger and slowly stroked it with his thumb. "I am afraid you have some misconceptions Tal." Mas finally replied. His head tilted upwards just a little bit as he looked upon the comfortably seated mage. "Allow me to remove these from your mind." With a sliding step, Mas presed a hand to the bookshelf beside him and leaned lightly upon it.

"The information you can come across is useful to me, This I will grant you. However you are not the only manner to discover what I wish to know. You are simply the easiest and most convienct of options." Mas flicked a hand up and waved a single finer back and forth slowly. "I have no problem utilizing my other resources. Just as you warn that you might be temped to warn my little brother, you have already warned me. I had been unaware, after all, that my brother had begun to work on plans of his own. Regardless of what precautions he might take now... the balance has been tipped to my favor"

Here Mas ceased playing with his hair and allowed it to fall loosely over his front shoulder. "You also, I fear, greatly overplay your impact on my House." At this Mas could not help but shake his head in a outward sign of dissappointment. "You can not honestly believe such, when you know nothing of what I personally am planning." Mas ceased shaking his head so he could fix a stern little look upon Tal. "Nor will I be tircked into saying anything just to disprove you. What future my House faces is based soly on my actions Tal. You may enjoy beliving that you may sway the power within Barrith, but I can so very well assure you that this is certainly not the case." My he was feeling a little chatty and boastful didn't he? Mas assumed it was because he was, for once, having a conversation that was more enjoyable then busniess or study... or maybe it had been the nice long chat with Tri-No that had helped him establish within himself a spark that had long ago been smothered?

"I will tell you what options you do have though." And here Mas smiled. his hand sweeping his hair once more over his shoulder with a vain flick. "You can choose to keep what information you can come across, and attempt to train Micarreth as you say. To make him a far more useful asset for whatever cause you may percieve. Which also would mean you gamble on his trustworthiness as he grows more talented. Tell me Tal, have you associated with my brother long enough to discern how trustworthy he is? I would suspect yes, if you had come to me like you had earlier to test and see whom I was. I would also wager that by now you have a general understanding of the type of man my little brother is becoming. Oh yes, you might be able to help him and make things difficult for me in my own plans. But Micarreth will certainly not be able to contend with me once I reach my goal. Besides..." Mas paused and placed a hand across his lips to half hide the smirk he currently felt forming. "Once Micarreth has had his way with you and obtained his own personal goals just what sort of reward do you think you will possibly get from him?"

Mas left his hand in place, his smirk unfading as he continued on with his own little verbal power play. "Now...you could choose to give me what aid you can. In which case you know without a doubt that I shall be very grateful for how much easier you would make it keeping tabs on my little bothersome brother. I can be very generouse Tal... I can assure you, Barrith will not fall. It will not be absorbed into some other females holdings. It is My House and there is nothing that will be taking it away from me. Besides...what greater leverage could you possibly hold over Micarreth then the favor of his elder sibling?"

Mas tilted his head once more at Tal, inviting him to speak now. Mas knew, that in a way everything that had been said thus far had not changed. It basically boiled down to: Mas getting information from Tal, while paying him some sort of price. What Mas wished, most definatly, was to change the tone of the discussion. He would not care for it to sound, or be felt, that it was Tal with all the cards in his hand. Oh no... Mas simply would not allow Tal to gain that position so as to exploit more from him then what he was really willing to give.

While listening carefully to Mas, Tal's expression remained fairly calm, the tight smile only faltering slightly into a frown, but by teh end Tal was smiling again. While he disliked the tone Mas was taking, Tal had to admit had he been in his position he'd be doing pretty much the same. Portraying the facts in such a way as to convince the other that your preferred option was the only viable one.

Resting his elbow in one hand so as to support his head in his other hand, Tal took a long look at Mas, a pleasant smile forming on his lips. "I could certainly get used to having someone like you around... Oh well... " Sighing and bringing himself back to teh matter at hand, Tal had already made up his mind as to how he'd proceed, the outcome was obvious really when you considered they were Drow, but one still had to play the game, else why bother?

"I seem to have overstepped myself, I obviously didn't emphasis enough that I don't see myself as a deciding factor, just a minor breeze that could help or hinder. You make good points, you are of course right about your brother, but since I don't trust him as far as I could throw a Rothe, I've already factored that into my plans. All going well I'll be finished with him before he decides I'm no more use. But being useful is a survival skill for me. You see in teaching him, I'll give him a glimpse of a power he could never hold himself, but which he can access through me, so long as the knowledge and power I can give him furthers his own goals why betray me? We'll both be using each other, it's just a matter of making sure you're not the one that's used up first."

Tal ran a hand over his own hair, his fingers gentle running over the rings intricately woven into his hair as he pursed his lips in thought for a moment. "You on the other hand? I've no idea how trustworthy you are, you might even have me killed as soon as you can, rather than risk that I might give your brother something that could ruin your own ambitions. Plus I'm only of use to you so long as you need something to keep your brother in check, once you've solidified your own position, what then? You could easily tell me to go jump down a chasm. It's obvious your too smart to be manipulated and as a mage yourself, my spells aren't as threatening to you and besides gathering info on your brother what else do I have to offer you? Exactly what can I expect from this generosity of yours? I know some who would consider a quick death a generous offer..."

Tal liked that Mas seemed confident in teh survival of his house, but still he doubted if Mas could pull it off, once his Matron died, a new female would have to take the lead. Surely Mas wasn't thinking of ruling himself? Such things just didn't happen, he'd face insubordination form within and be viewed as a weak male by opposing houses. So then what did he have in mind. With out realising it Tal had started chewing on his lower lip, lost in thought as he considered what kind of plot Mas might possibly have.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 29, 2008 3:59 pm

Mas once more very polietly allowed Tal to finish speaking before he began himself. He knew there was a murmuring on the others part. But he had not quite caught it. Something about him he knew but nothing more. Mas choose to accept Tal's 'apology' with just a mere nod of his head. The fact alone that he had apologized when it wasn't really neccessary was enough to satisfy Mas D'aun's ego. He also felt that to acknowledge the apology with anything more then the nod would be rather assinine and haughty. Mas really did not want to create a feeling of resentment at the moment.

Trust was always a issue with the drow. Mas hardly trusted himself at times. It was impossible for him to trust anyone else. Even his own brother! Of course, considering the disturbing new information that Mas had unconvered he felt he had a great deal of reason to be mistrustful of Micarreth. Hmmm. He was going to have to do something with that boy before Micar got it into his silly noggin that he could get away with something.

"I have no qualms of you using my brother to achive your own ends. However...I would be very unhappy if something unrecoverable befell him. I am sure you can understand that, I do have my own plans for the boy after all." In a manner of speaking...permission was granted. Mas was not going to hinder Tal's own plans so long as they did not complicate Mas's goals. He cared little for the manner of exchange, and unless Micar came to him directly about what may or may not be happening..well.. There would be no grudge born from Mas should their final session turn sour for Micar. It would just teach the little git a hard lesson was all. Mas D'aun simply did not want his brother dead, broken, or missing pieces of himself!

It was enjoyable though. This discussion with Tal. His comments on Mas D'aun's own trustworthiness brought such a smile to his lips! His blue eyes almost twinkled in the very very faint fairie light present for the sake of reading the content of the books stored here. "You do have a keen insight don't you Tal?" Mas softly replied while he enjoyed thinking up a clever enough of a response for such a interesting conversation.

"It is all too true that I could have you done away with, or I could simply enforce my will on my brother to keep him from you until I am ready myself. Though neither really would not serve my purposes in the least. No. I think it serves me very well to have you teaching my brother these things. Now that I know what he will be learning, reguardless of whether you choose to share any more information with me, I still will be able to take proper precautions. Besides, of my own plans you really know nothing. Just that I intend on keeping the House under my control. However shall I accomplish that? hmmm. That would be a question that would drive Micarreth to distraction I think. So no... My own plans are not in any form of danger yet."

Use...what use would Tal best serve besides baby sitting Micarreth? Well...there was always a use for a drow. Even if it was just as a stepping stool...or a foot mat. Though Tal did not seem to be one of those lowly types you could play with...possibly because he held himself with a air of self assurance. Mas D'aun liked that. His hand came up to gently stroke at his chin in thought. What he liked even more was the distracted manner that Tal began to chew on his bottom lip. He must be thinking rather hard about something...Mas' smile hardly faded any as he watched the thoughtful look in Tal's eyes. He was...so very pretty. he wanted to just lean down, grab him by that ornately braided and decorated hair, thrust him up against the book case and----

It seemed Tal was not the only one who found himself thinking rather hard on something. Mas ceased rubbing at his chin and slid his hand up to rub at his temple so as to refocus himself on the discussion at hand.

"As it is you have asked... My generousity does not extend to such foul trickster misleadings. Goddess no! No no... House Barrith has a great deal of wealth behind it though. I am certain that the question of funding may one day arise for you, and if you are in my favor it is possible that I will be capable of providing you a little gold to burn. Not to mention the possibility of..well..there are spell books and magical items in the treasurey that have never even been cataloged. Once I have obtained possession of my House I intend on changing that. Who knows what I might find within...maybe even a few things I might be willing to pass along to a mage that can put it to great use?"

Here Mas tilted his head to give a sweeping gaze over the seated mage. "Or perhaps gold and magic is not enough? Perhaps there is something you are wanting? Hmmm? My use for you could extend beyond simply watching over Micarreth...I will eventually be in need of allies that..well... may have impressed me in some manner... So what exactly would you be interested in?"

Shrugging Tal waved a hand dismissively. "Fine, I shall do all that is in my power to ensure your brother doesn't met unnecessary harm. Still... the life of an assassin is a dangerous one, I can hardly be held responsible should your brother perish while on the job?" Regardless of any promises he made here, Tal's plans for Mica would involve sending the boy into danger. For an assassin failure on a mission often resulted in death, that was just part of the territory, for most Drow really, not just assassins. Tal would try and'keep Mica alive, only because the boy was only useful to him that way.

When Mas said his own plans weren't in any danger, Tal was inclined to disagree, not that he doubted Mas, he had come to see the other mage was far more intelligent or at least level headed than his brother. However he thought Mas was too dismissive of Mica's own ambitions. "You're plans are of course your own business, but don't repeat your brothers mistakes and take your competition too lightly. After all so far Mica has, without your knowledge, learned the basics of assassination. Which implies he has a teacher of some sorts, you don't learn that sort of thing from a book. He's also come to possess a ring that annuls any direct act of magic, a powerful tool. Who knows what other advantages he might have that you don't know of? What other allies does he have on his side? What else has he accomplished while right under your nose? I'd be more cautious of Mica's abilities and ambitions if I was in your position."

Tal once again idlely chewed on that lower lip, this time considering Mas' proposal. Money was good, wealth was a useful tool, there was little that could not be accomplished with enough gold on your side. Technically Tal was tutoring Mica after all, so a 'small' fee for the service certainly wasn't amiss. Though it was the tempting offer of magical items and books that really had him. Tal loved books, beyond even money, knowledge was one of the purest forms of power, at least to Tals mind. Plus ever since he developed his work with rings into a small business, Tal had developed a keen interest in various forms of arcane artifacts. Who knew what wonders lay in the legendary Barrith treasury?

What finally broke Tal's train of thought was Mica's use of the word 'use'. Hearing it Tal made a disappointed "tsk" sound and glanced up at Mas. Oh Tal knew from the start Mas was thinking of ways to use him, just as Tal was thinking the same, it was just the Drow way after all. Still one didn't state it so bluntly to another's face, talking behind their back, fine, but not to their face, it showed a certain lack of subtlety. Everyone knew everybody was trying to use everyone else, each individual just liked to think they were the one getting away with it.

Still it was a minor slight, especially when it came with such an interesting offer. What did Tal want? Looking into Mas' unusual blue eyes, Tal had an idea or two, but thought better of voicing them after his embarrassment with Mica. "Should your schemes succeed and you rise to power in your House, I imagine you would be grateful and generous to those who had aided your ascencion...." Tal wondered what other uses Mas could have in mind for him, depending on the gains to be had, Tal would let himself be used for what ever Mas was planning, after all everything had it's price.

"Very well, then I have two conditions. One, should you achieve your goals and rule over House Barrith, that I may be allowed to call upon the protection of your House in any matter of my choosing. And two that at the soonest convenient opportunity after your ascension, I get Mica to do with as I please for one night, within reason that I not endanger his life, or maim him such that his ability to serve you and your House are in any way diminished. Meet these conditions and I will agree to service your needs as best I can, in exchange for a modest fee depending on the nature of the task." The fee was simply to cover any expense Tal incurred working for Mas, not to mention covering him in teh event Mas never achieved his own goals and Tal never got to collect on his two conditions.

Tal was a little nervous as he waited for Mas' reply, but hid it as best he could behind a stoic mask. If Mas said yes it could prove to be a great boon to Tal's own ultimate ambitions.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 30, 2008 5:53 pm

Tal had given him more then he had expected. At least from a first encounter. It was a little surprising. As he had spent such a great majority of his life in seclusion from most of drow society, Mas personally thought he'd be making a great amount of mistakes by now. Well... perhaps he was? It was a reason to curb his enthusiasim and contain his eagerness. This wasn't the first time he'd dealt with a drow outside of his family and done well. Tri-No's encounter had been rather pleasent despite the fact she was a female. Perhaps that had given him a bit more confidence in himself? It certainly had given him a bit more strength and had resulted in him finally enacting plans of his own to ensure his future. Rather then cowering in his room any longer that is...

Reguardless of his concerns over his possible errors, Mas took note of Tal's advice. He'd be a fool if he did not heed advice when given freely. Caution was never false advice, and Mas nodded his head slightly when Tal warned him about his brother. True...it was very true. Mas had not even suspected his brothers true training. He'd merely taken it for granted when he saw his little brother training with the Weapons Master of the House. "Your warning is noted Tal, and I assure you I am not taking Micarreth's agenda lightly. I have my suspicions, now that I have had my eyes opened a bit. I already can call to mind small things that had gone un-noticed until this moment. I will be dealing with him very soon now." Very soon... Mas was simply going to have to find out what the little nuisance had been up to before he did something...inconvienient....

Of course...he would have Tal now to slip him what information he could ferret out of his brother. There would be little risk that Micar would suspect Mas behind his questions...or so he counted on. The distracted manner that Tal kept drifting away from their conversation led Mas to believe the other drow had much on his mind. He had to be very interested by the proposition. Or perhaps there were just a great many things he had to consider about this dealing. Just what sort of means was Micar going to serve the drow? That gave Mas a little bit to muse over himself. There really was only one purpose for an assassin after all. Tal either had someone in mind that he wished dead, or he was preparing for the day when he would wish someone dead. Either way, Mas was not entierly dissappointed in his little brothers choice of professions.

Mas D'aun's mind once more was returned to Tal when he heard the soft 'tsk' sound. Just as he had been wondering if he had said something wrong, it appeared he had. Though...no mention was made of whatever his mistake had been. Rather Tal addressed the sort of...future relationship the two might have concerning positions and power. Since Mas' smile had not yet faded or faltered there was no general change to his expression. No...wait... yes there was. Though he tried hard to fight the amusement that flickered into his pale eyes upon the mention of Tal's two conditions. The first one, was one he was not too surprised by. All drow wished to gain the support of other ruleing houses. If for nothing more then a place to run to when something went awry. The second condition was simply...amuseing!

Mas lifted a hand and placed it over his lips so he could hide the wide grin behind it. He could not hide the obvious merry twinkle that crinkled his eyes or scrunched his nose a little. He had to take a few moments to think. To subdue the tickle in his chest that wished to escape in the form of laughter. Paying Tal for his aid was something Mas had no problem agreeing to. With Quavv gone, and now he was far more suspicius of Micarreth concerning this, he once again had full access to the Barrith treasury. "Hmmm. I can see a small problem with your first condition Tal. What if you were to call upon House Barrith against a foe that would surely destroy my House? That would be a great liability I would be opening myself up to you know. However... I am inclined to believe that if such were the case then honestly...not even calling for House Barrith would save you, I do not think you would embaress yourself by running to a weaker House like a little rat."

Mas felt the muscles in his face relaxing and the tightness in his chest from with held amusement fade. With his features more composed he was able to withdraw his hand from his lower face. "When I obtain power within my house I will agree to offer the protection of House Barrith to you on one occassion should you ever need it. Your second condition...well..." Oh...he was going to start laughing! Try as he might Mas D'aun could not stop the dark and soft chuckle from parting his lips. His chest shook slightly and he had to turn his head away, His hair shifting to half hide his face as he worked to at least control it from becoming a outright bout of laughter.

"I agree to your second condition. Once I claim control of my House Micarreth will have no choice but to obay my commands. He will be yours for a night, for whatever purpose you may have for him. I shall ask no questions concerning this time." Though he certainly had a wild imagination full of them! Of course, Mas D'auns images of his very unhappy and shaken brother squirming about in a form of undress could all just be false. For all he knew Tal intended to use him for an assassination that would incur no price from the little fa'la zatoast. Still...he did rather enjoy forming the image of a undressed Tal on his knees creeping over the body of Micarreth.... Nggh....it was really best not to let his mind wander anymore down that path...

Well that had all gone better than he had hoped, Tal had expected some degree of haggling with Mas, or that Mas would add in conditions of his own. In response to Mica's comments about House Barriths protection, Tal just nodded. Mas was right, after all one didn't hide form a dragon behind a wooden buckler, Tal would call upon that favour as part of his contingency plans, it might well be a debt he'd never need to collect, but having a fall back position was a comforting thought.

As for Mas' outburst of laughter, well Tal could guess what Mas was thinking right then about his intentions for Mica. Tal was content to let Mica think whatever he wanted, Tal had his own plans just as Mas had his, though Tal's use for Mica would depend very much on the timing of Mas' rise to power and when Tal could call in that favour.

Something else crossed Tal's mind as he sat there listening to Mas laugh, it occurred to him that he found the sound rather pleasing to his ears, just as pleasing as Mas's smiling face was to his eyes. Tal realised he was falling for Mas just as easily as he had fallen for Mica, there was something about the Barrith boys, they were too handsome for their own good.

Looking over Mas with a touch of admiration, perhaps even lust in his eye, Tal gave a mental shrug and decided not to fight it. He might as well explore it, Mas had already as good as given Tal permission to rape his younger brother, so Mas couldn't be that adverse to the concept. At worst Tal might sour their new found alliance, at best he'd make Mas uncomfortable and put him off, allowing Tal to gain the upper hand again in their dealings. Well, maybe that wasn't the best case scenario...

Standing up suddenly Tal closed in on Mas, a slightly sultry look in his eyes as he once again ignored Mas' personal space. "I'm so glad we could reach an agreement, it's always a pleasure making an amiable arrangement with a fellow male. I'll be happy to serve you in any way I can. Ask and if it can be done and the price is right, I'll see to it." Tal was now so close the only thing stopping him from rubbing his torso against Mas' was the hand Tal now had resting on the other males chest. "After all it's rare that one has the pleasure of being of service to such an intelligent, handsome and ambitious man as yourself." Tal gave Mas an easy smile as his eyes took in every detail of Mas' well formed features.

Mas D'aun was feeling rather pleased with himself now. They had reached an agreement. The only thing he wished he had was some parchment. It would feel far more business like if he had been able to draw this up as a contract for the two of them to sign. Perhaps it was not too late to bring this up? It was as he was museing over this that he caught the slight glint in Tal's eyes. Now...he had seen that light before... many a times in the young men's eyes of his House when certain cleaning girls were unfortunate enough to be cornered by them. Oh, he had never intervened, as he suspected he knew what would shortly be happening. It was beneath Mas to act on the behalf of a mere servant. Besides, the men needed their vices. It kept them happy after all. Yet Mas had never had such a look turned upon -him- before.

He felt a dryness in his mouth at first, and yes...his heart rate fluttered a little quicker. While he had enjoyed thinking such naughty things about Tal, he was pretty certain he had managed to keep his own personal desires from filtering to the surface. Surely he had not led Tal to believe he was intersted in him? As that had been a ploy Micarreth had used upon Tal, Mas had not wished to follow suit and set Tal on edge or perhaps make him suspicious.

Tal's swift rise and approch certainly put Mas off. He backed away what he could, which was really only a step before his shoulders bumped into the book case behind him. Oh! His blue eyes certainly widened and those long lashes fluttered into a surprised expression. The book he had selected fell with a soft 'thunk' to the floor as it slipped from his fingers. It was incredibly hard to convince himself that he might be taking Tal's words in the wrong way. Incredibly hard with such a look on his face and him being so close to him. His heart certainly was beating terribly fast at this point and he could feel a growing heat in his cheeks. "Tal your...ah...offer is most...unexpected. I had thought we had...already discussed what things...interested you that I could...offer..." Offer indeed! This was not a offer. Tal was basically asking, for more then what mas had currently been expecting. Perhaps he had been wrong in thinking it was his younger brothers body the mage had been interested in.

Such flattery. If his cheeks were not already heated up he certainly would have blushed. And with that hand pressed to his chest.... Tal was already inviting something in the form of contact. He shouldn;'t be so hesitant! After all..he was supposed to be a 'ambitious' man! Still, he felt flustered! A part of him feared that this was a tease. To get him to react or respond before pulling away with some scornful scathing comment. His thoughts flickered so quickly between carnal images and paranoid concerns. "Though....since it is you have...asked..." He asked...he offered. This wasn't -his- idea after all. So if Mas did something...

It was embaressing really. The way he could feel his hands trembling despite the fact he could not see them. Still, he lifted them from his sides and reached out to very lightly place them around Tal's waist. "I suppose we could continue this discussion elsewhere that is more private?"

Tal's smile gradually widened, in part because Mas had shown no signs of rejecting Tal's advances and had engaged in his little game, but also because Tal was realising how inexperienced Mas was. Tal had never considered Mas was a novice to this, he was the eldest son to a wealthy house without an heir. Women eager to advance their own positions surely must be lining up to court him. Still Tal supposed there was a world of difference between a woman making advances and a man flirting with you. He only wished he'd realised sooner, he might have had some interesting fun, he still would anyway.

Tal's own cheeks brightened slightly when he felt Mas' arms about him, Tal missed that feeling. It had been a long time since he'd last felt a warm body pressed against his own, work, studies, errands and countless plotting and scheming had left him with little time for such pleasures. Well he could remedy that soon enough.

"Asked? I have asked for nothing yet. Merely letting you know it would be my pleasure to serve." Tal pressed a little closer, his hand moving up to rest against Mas' neck, Tal could even feel the others rapid pulse, but he hardly needed that to tell him he had the other mages attention, one look at Mas' face told him that.

Tal let the hand slide down and wrap around Mas' waist, while resting his face against Mas' shoulder, his warm breath tickling the others neck. "Discuss thins in private? Look around, we seem to be alone right now, no one to witness anything we might say.. or do. Or maybe it's your more afraid of someone seeing your body language rather than being overheard?" The hand round Mas' waist slowly came up and followed the curve of Mas' back, gently stroking up and down. "As you wish, I will of course submit to your will in this matter."

Tal moved ever so slightly closer so that his lips grazed against Mas' cheek. "Did you have somewhere private in mind? If you are as eager as I am to further our... discussion. Then might I suggest my place? My Lord Barrith?" If Mas' ambition was to one day rule over House Barrith, Tal hoped that bit of flattery would be enough to brush aside any remaining inhibitions Mas might have.
