I've personally never tried a complete run through of the game with just the Buster Sword. Though probably in reality, that is how it should have been in the game itself, i honestly just don't see the worth in pending that much time maxing the characters out when you can just get and uber-weapon.
Sounds good to me at least. If you did do it, I applaud you, truly.
