Samantha Abigail Silverman bolted out of the rickety green-and-rust colored Jeep, backpack trailing on the ground behind her, and made a bee-line for the mailbox. Jezerah smiled, and got out of the jeep, closing the door and heading for the house. "What'd we get, Sammy?" She said, waiting on the porch while Sam went through the mail.
"Junk, junk, junk-- Hey! Look, Mommy, you got a letter!" Samantha waved the letter proudly, grinning wide. Jezerah took the letter and started opening it, letting Samantha go inside ahead of her. "Can I go watch TV?" She spun around, holding her backpack. "I'll do my spelling while I watch TV, I promise!"
"Go ahead. I'll come in and check in a couple minutes." Jezerah smiled at her daughter, and went into the kitchen, taking the letter out of the envelope. The letter wasn't from anyone she knew, as far as she could tell. No one had her address, no one had her name really, who would be writing to her? But lo and behold, a letter had come. A letter...
