"How am I stopping you from watching? Am I in the way?" Again, her questions are simple and to the point. If it hadn't been for the fact that her eartufts are still pinned against her skull it'd be easy to believe that the questions are entirely innocent in nature. "Here, I'll fix that." And without another word she drops from the branch, drifting silently to another (lower) perch. She's closer to the burrow, now, but she's also closer to the ground.

"Nothing that I'm doing is putting anyone in any danger, Watcher. There's nobody else around, aside from you. And you're high enough up that you won't be at risk while you watch." The rabbits are almost a lost cause at this point - it's unlikely that they'll peek out from hiding while the two Sentinels are having this discussion. But perhaps he'll get annoyed and go away, so that she can wait for them to re-emerge.

Foxfeather fas frustrated and flustered. He wanted the patchy freak to leave and he wanted to make her do so... Right now.

But at the same time he had no desire to drift any closer to the ground or nearer to her. He could just picture himself covered in white and his caused his stomach to churn. He definitely didn't want the white sickness, like this aberrant definitely had.

A scowl was firmly set on his beak as he turned his golden eyes to the forest floor yet again...

No sign of them at the moment, but the foxes were sharp. They were probably just waiting for the right moment...

"You're putting yourself in danger, you dolt. But maybe I just ought to let you get yourself killed. The forest would be better off without you, I bet."

As the reddish Watcher grows increasingly flustered, Dodger seems to become increasingly calm and composed. Her attention is, as always, upon the hidden rabbits... but inwardly, she's quite pleased and almost a little amused. Perhaps the annoying bigot will convince himself to go!

"If the forest would be better off without me, as you obviously believe, then why do you care what I do?" She glances up at him, and a brief gleeful sparkle in her eyes is the only evidence of the notion that had just occurred to her. For just a moment, the patchy aberrant had imagined what would happen if she were to fly towards him, and cuddle up as if she was glad that he showed so much concern over his welfare. The idea of doing such an outrageous thing (and his inevitable reaction!) is enough to bring a faint smile to her beak - fortunately for the watcher, the idea is entertaining enough that she does not feel the urge to act upon her whims. Yet.

"Go on, Watcher. Go watch somewhere else, and forget you saw me," she urges, her voice clear and sincere, "I'm sure you know that nobody would care if you were looking the other way, if something should happen."

"I'm supposed to watch right here." He hissed in frustration as he shifted on his perch. His sharp talons scraped against the limbs softly and he turned his attention to the forest floor once again. They were still down there somewhere...

Dear Noctus... He was no longer sure exactly where the first one was. It might of moved somewhere else, what with his being distracted by that filthy freak. Way to go, now what would he tell the others...

Maybe they were still close by, that would be best to assume. He would just have to be more careful and pay closer attention.

I can't do it until that mus-dung of a idiot is gone, though! He cursed inwardly as he seethed. It was all her fault he lost the stealthy creature below. She, just like all the other freaks out there, had to ruin everything.

"And I can't do it unless you leave. If you really wanted to help, you'd either leave or use yourself as bait, so just get out of the way and go back to your dolt of a teacher."

A sharp hiss escapes her beak before she cuts it off with a few threatening clacks, her talons tightening convulsively upon her perch - that, aside from the pinning of her pupils and the sudden sense of about-to-pounce that she gives off, is her only reaction to his words. The aberrant stares fixedly at Foxfeather, her gaze intent, and in the midst of her threat display he may happen to notice that (despite her affliction) she's well on her way to becoming a larger than average Sentinel. The almost-adult has yet to see her full growth, of course, but when she does she'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Fortunately for them both, her anger subsides as quickly as it was roused, and her attention shifts back to the ground. "Alright then," Dodger states quietly, and she drops from her perch - drifting to the ground, to snatch an unsuspecting grouse in her talons. She'd almost missed it, so focussed was she earlier on the rabbit burrow. And, just to spite the Watcher (or perhaps in some irreverent attempt to 'help' him, she remains on the ground, freshly-killed grouse in her grasp, waiting and watching.

Suddenly several small birds explode out of a thick bush behind Dodger, clearly scared by something. If the fox is trying to sneak up on her it’s not doing a very good job, even if it hasn't crept into the open yet. Foxfeather may be able to see one of the foxes crouching near the bush a few wingspans behind Dodger, but the other one is still nowhere to be seen.

Foxfeather was startled by the sudden explosion of the small birds from the thicket. He practically jumped out of his feathers and his eartufts lifted high as he scanned the Ground with his golden eyes. Annnnnd...

It was near the bushes. He couldn't see the other one and he gave a loud, warning hoot. He did it without thinking rationally, or what he would of considered rationally. He wanted the Freak gone, but for a brief moment he forgot about the fact that he hated her. There was a sentinel on the ground and there were foxes.

He scooted down the limb, searching for a better view, as he grasped hold of his emotions. He couldn't let himself do anything stupid. . Would the Freak get eaten, or would she escape? His interest was peaked and he quickly shoved off the startled fear he felt a moment ago.

The explosion of birds put the almost-adult on alert, and the Watcher's warning hoot cinched it - there must be a fox nearby, and it must be in the bushes. But... those bushes are far enough away that she should be able to get off the ground before it can reach her, if she leaps as soon as it shows itself. The only thing that she's not sure of is the other fox. Hesitant for a moment, she shifts to face the obvious danger and keep the location of the fox within her peripheral vision. Can she trust the Watcher to alert her if (or when!) the other fox shows itself?

Frustrated by her own indecision (and by her own condition which makes it impossible to trust other Sentinels with her life), the patchy aberrant makes the safer choice. She adjusts her grip on the grouse, casts one last wary glance back at the bush, and removes herself to a low-hanging branch in the opposite direction. Not ready to leave quite yet, Dodger watches the ground below curiously. "Thank you for the warning, Watcher," she offers politely.

Had he warned her on purpose? Or was it just an accident? Foxfeather, in all his reddish brown glory, found himself at a loss for words as he pondered on this. How could he, anyways? He had almost been rid of her, for good, and it would of done much to improve the forest. Then there would only be another case of White sickness to whipe out, as far as he was concerned.

"Don't mention it." He hooted, and he meant it. He didn't want her to mention it and he felt slightly ashamed of himself for giving her that warning. Sly and Stormbringer would of been utmost disappointed in him if they found out about this.

He turned his gaze to the unfortunate, hungry Fox and mulled over the events silently. "Just be more careful." The second had to be around there, somewhere.

The fox in the bushes watches with interest as Dodger retreats onto the lower branches, and slowly pokes its muzzle out of the bushes while the two giant birds talk to each other. He is the only one who does not seem surprised when the other fox suddenly lunges up from the dense bushes right beneath Dodger's new perch.

It's quite the jump for a little fox to manage, but this one seems determined to wing it anyway. However, at the moment the fox is nothing short of a ivory-fanged, red-furred, snarling explosion of terror from below.

Fortunately for Dodger, she's been watching the ground. The sudden explosion of movement from the bush is noticed, registered, and reacted to before she even knows what has happened.

Unfortunately for Dodger, her instinctive reaction is fairly typical of most Sentinels - drop what you're holding, and move higher. So she's lost her grouse, but kept her tailfeathers intact.

And now she's alert and perched on a higher branch, feathers fluffed in a threat display, wings held to make herself look as large as possible. This display is largely unnecessary, however, as the fox is no longer a threat. Taking an unexpected grouse to the face probably wasn't what it had in mind, but at least it's a delicious surprise.

Despite having his golden eyes trained on the spot where the fox suddenly emerged, Foxfeather was still startled. He gave a hiss as his feathers rose and he took on a rather aggressive display, although there was a wide amount of distance between himself and the ground and he was in no physical danger.

It was almost comical, given his small size, but it was fierce regardless. And almost to his disappointment, the patchy freak was fine. His feathers smoothed out and he watched the fox take the grouse to the face.

"Heheh, lost your lunch." He teased with a laugh and a humor that echoed the fledgling he once had been, not all that long ago. While he made light of the situation, his mind wandered to what could have been. He was tough, as far as his own talk was concerned, but he was still wet behind the feathers, so to speak. He had never seen a dead sentinel before, though he most likely would before the course of his life was done. Wouldn't it of been neat had the fox caught her?

Would the fox turn patchy, just like her? He was rather curious...

Well, that was annoying. But she can always get another grouse, and she couldn't replace her tail (or any other part of her body) as easily. So the youth shrugs the loss off, glancing briefly at the Deep Woods and his cute little 'threat display' while her own feathers settle down, and then looks back down to see the fox slinking away with the grouse between its teeth.

Her gaze had been upon the disappearing fox, but when the other Sentinel laughs Dodger looks up at him again. She does not speak, but her expression is fairly clear - how childish. It's pathetic, really, and a little disappointing, and a little bit of a grin can be seen playing about her beak while she makes the quiet assumption that most bigots she has ever (and will ever) run into are just as immature as Foxfeather is proving to be. Why did she ever listen to them?

"It wasn't for me, but I can get another," is her steady reply, her tone clear of the amusement she feels, "the night is young, there's still plenty of time to hunt. And I should get going." It's fairly obvious that she is done with this place - and this watcher. She begins to set her flight feathers in order, then glances up at him again, "Unless you'd like for me to come with you when you make your report, that is."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:11 pm

"Thank you for the offer, but you won't be needed. I can handle it myself." He struggled to keep his tone formal, although his amusement could still be easily detected by his posture. She actually wanted to make a report with him? Such a silly, silly freak she was. He could handle it himself, without her help.

"Just be careful. If you see any more of those four-legged beasts roaming around, let someone know." He returned his gaze to the forest floor and settled his watch to the position where the foxes had dissapeared. He would have to leave and make his report shortly, but at least he had seen what direction they had darted off to.

But at least she would be leaving, now. He could finally have some much sought after peace. Not only would it be quiet, but the chances of him developing her illness would be lowered with her leaving. Two birds with one talon, so it seemed.

"I'm sure you can," she replies. Her tone is nothing but sincere, even if the amused smirk on her face hasn't quite left yet. "And I appreciate your concern, Watcher. I'll be sure to tell everyone I meet just how thoughtful and helpful you have been, even to an aberrant freak like myself." And with that she leaps into the air, gliding silently through the air. She's heading towards him, but just to go past. Except... she suddenly changes course, coming in to land briefly on the same branch as Foxfeather. "...oh, right. What was your name again? I don't believe I caught it."
