XIII falling stars They are making made Dance Dance Revolution X. With.....wait for it..........a story mode. Yeah, also I'm betting it will be the final DDR. But it apparently will have a Arcade version. Not like there are that many versions of even Supernova out there. Thanks for reminding me that I went to the DDR X AC location test and didn't tell you guys about it. *runs off to make a thread*

Kaihou What do you believe contributed to the reason(s) that Dance Dance Revolution isn't as or near as popular as it was 4 years ago? Is it cause of all the cheap and easily put together expansions? Or because of Guitar Hero and Rockband? Discuss how you feel about this. Wanna know the reason why DDR isn't the CRAZE anymore??? Because of ******** guitar hero and rock band. I ******** HATE THOSE ANNOYING GAY GAMES!!! GRRR... its an lousy imitation of playing guitar!!! I hate those games so much!!!

At least Guitar Hero 2 had some pretty decent music. And Rockband is pretty fun to play at a party.

Rock Band really isn't so bad. I hate the userbase, but the game's not terrible. Guitar Hero can choke a flaming d**k though.
But as I said in another thread (or maybe in this thread and everyone's blind!), these newfangled geetar games have stolen pretty much all of DDR's prospective male userbase due to the fact that they combine the average teen's two favorite activities; rocking out and sitting on your ever-largening a**.

If DDR didn't have that "gay pop music", it wouldn't have any chance at appealing to a mainstream audience, and would therefore be less popular. Granted their song selection could be a little better, but I think outright laziness is to blame for the lack of popularity more than anything, really.

Kaihou xp I was at the arcade yesterday. You use to have people waiting and taking turns to play. But not anymore, you could have that machine to yourself for hours. Yea, I do miss that, and when I'm in an arcade, I'm the only one that can play worth a crap. I used to be one of the noobs.

I believe it's just a sign of the times. It went through it's phase in Japan and other countries even as it was just hitting our shore.
I personally agree with the other posters who were saying it was because their later products were not nearly to the quality of their earlier. That was due to part (as we here all probably/hopefully know by now) of their competition with (and eventual aquirance of) ITG/Roxor which lead to rush-production of so/so games.
I also transitioned over to Pump It Up because it became one of the only local, working machines in my area. As well the local malls have disposed of their DDR machines because of lack of activity. I personally like the music of Pro because it is different from the standard DDR and combines with ITG music.
I do still occasionally play at home, but have recently traded in my later editions and kept Max, Max 2, extreme, and extreme 2 because I actually play those mixes.
(I apologize if any of what I said was confusing - I am taking a break from finals studying and my brain is slightly done...lol)

Though I wouldn't say "competition" from ITG/Roxor in general has much to do with it though. The DDR games released during ITG's existence were a lot better than what we're getting now. Maybe ITG's presence helped DDR, if anything. Konami's just plain getting lazy. Even their Japanese releases are starting to show it, what with them quietly stopping production of Pop'n Music and GFDM home versions, and Empress being an overall letdown thus far. D:

Yeah, I've been out of the loop/off the gaia forums for awhile, (damn college and work...lol)
I do agree with the point that the DDR series was better in the days of ITG vs now. If my sources were correct, supernova might not have even happened if it wasn't for Roxor regenerating interest in 4pannel games in the U.S. (that is where the competition part comes in) So in a nutshell, I do agree that it *kind of* helped DDR but only for a time, but Roxor was (in the end) mainly a competitor for DDR/Konami.
I completely agree with you that Konami is being lazy (and have been for a while.) I am wondering if at this point, if the hurting economy hasn't been affecting production/importation as well. (random side thought....)
And this is how out of the loop I've been, I didn't even realize they were stopping Pop'n. I haven't even tried Empress either. lol (sorry to hear it's a letdown)
I am just hoping that at this point that Andamaro can at least keep up the Pump series for a few more mixes, basically until I am too (physically) old to play...lol
(again sorry for any confusion/rambling - brain has officially stopped functioning)

I haven't even tried Empress either. lol (sorry to hear it's a letdown) Pop'n 14 CS has been out for almost a year and a half now, and they haven't said a word about 15 CS, so it's safe to say it's dead as far as CS releases go. Pop'n 17 has/had an arcade location test though so I have no idea what's up.

Rock Revolution was Konami's doing? how sad.
The one good thing about the game is the song they had playing for the commercials. This is just my personal opinion because I've been following the band that played the song.

Rock Revolution was such a joke. I tried it once and the lag just about made me cry... I have just about lost all respect for Konami anymore.
