Isiah watched his face with a look of mixed confusion and worry, his eyes darting back to their hands stuck together from time to time. He gave a silent sigh of relief as Bornes finally released him, kneeling down to shut the iron door with a grunt, turning the the wheel shut with a long groan.
"Well.." He stood back up, tightening the strap on his bag, looking back to his currently frozen companion. "Goodbye shithole."
He turned on his heel, taking a few steps forward before pausing. "... You not coming?"

Bornes gave another nervous sidestep before walking toward where he assumed Isiah was, based on sound. He only managed to take two steps before second guessing himself and stopping, a frown on his face.
"I'm blind," he sighed. "The sun's too bright."
Bornes wore the sunglasses to protect his eyes from light. He was a nocturnal creature; he could see perfectly at night. He could manage in the day with his heavy sunglasses, though wouldn't admit to being partially blind while he wore them. However, out here it was simply too sunny. It was a small thing Bornes simply didn't think about when he had decided to leave and it was too late to turn back now.
Quatre Bornes waved his tail nervously as he rubbed his black boot against the ground around him in a semicircle. "Is all the ground flat?" If it was, he could just follow Isiah by sound. But if not...
He shifted uncomfortably at the thought.

Isiah paused again midstep- as soon as Bornes had opened his mouth he assumed he would be good to go. He cleared his throat in the uncomfortable silence that followed, turning his head to survey the grounds out before them.
This had once been a .. quaint little hick town. The sign for the pub was even still there, it's paint peeling, the roof caved in. The sun was bright- no signs of life were apparent. The wind blew quick and harsh in intermittent bursts... and as to the lupine's question..
The street- or what was once street- was cracked but otherwise sound. At least, as far out as he could see. The town was small enough to have the highway running straight through it. "Flat enough," he offered, with little confidence. "I'll keep the pace slow."
He wasn't really sure where they were going- but he'd have to be sure, now. He knew there was a bigger town a half hour drive out- how long of a walk that'd be.. well.. Who knew. He'd follow the highway. See what they found. It's not like Bornes could say no.

Bornes' brows furrowed, and he pulled his hand from his pocket, laying both hands at his side, left still clutching the book. He gave out an uncertain grunt, but took a step forward, then another one.
Although Isiah had never crossed Bornes before, he was still hesitant to put all his trust in the man. He took another step and shifted slightly at a crack in the pavement. He recovered quickly, but he already didn't like this. Flat enough my a**, he thought to himself.
He continued forward a few more feet before growling to himself. "You should lead me," he said.
It almost pained Bornes to think they'd have to hold hands this whole trip. It would be demeaning.

Isiah's boots crunched against the broken asphalt with each step, the sound stopping with him. He gave a long sigh of inheld frustration, reaching back to take Bornes' hand. He was really expecting ... well, something a little more... Odd. Fur or. Claws.
He was naturally curious- who wouldn't be? But he certainly wasn't about to go out of his way to ask questions. He didn't want to be obligated to answer any.
He waited another moment, readjusting his grip. "... Ready?"

Bornes gripped Isiah's hand when it was given to him, and he nodded with a grunt of approval as they moved forward. At least in this close of proximity, Bornes could tell if what Isiah was stepping over would reach him as well.
It took a few feet to get the hang of it and to reach a quasinormal rate of speed, but once they had reached that plateau, Bornes finally snorted and gave a delayed "Thank you."
It was quickly followed by an order of sorts. "Tell me when the sun goes down." After a pause, he asked a question. "Do you not like Benson & Hedges?"

"I like any cigarette," he offered quickly. with a chuckle. "I owe you a thanks for those. Where have you been hiding them all this time?" And how, he mused inwardly. Isiah didn't think he'd be able to make it past sunset before he lit one- if even then.
"Why do you ask?" He stepped carefully, slowing his walk. "Careful. Step up." It wasn't a big step, but there was a big crack in the pavement.. he felt, suddenly, very fatherly, and he wasn't sure the feeling suited him.

Bornes let out a chuckle. "Because--" he got cut off and carefully searched around with his boot for the step up, then found it, and continued.
"You seem like an avid smoker, and I assumed you would have lit up as soon as possible." He looked down slightly, trying to picture his feet as he walked. His hands were normal, human hands. Albeit a bit sweaty.
"I smoke, but not often. I was saving them fr a time when I felt I might need them. Just kept them on me the whole time." He shook his head. "The book kept me sane enough, however. Just leave me one or two... For safety's sake."

He chuckled. "I'm trying to make them last. The first week after the blast I went through a carton.. and then just one a week.. once a month.. then ... whenever I felt like I really need one." He squeezed his hand a little in subtle thanks. "Tonight. Maybe. After you get your sight back." Assuming he did..

"Heh. If I had known the world was ending when I had bought the pack, I would've bought cloves instead." Those would've lasted much longer.
In response to the tonight statement, he grunted a bit uneasily. He knew he would get it back, he just wondered if he should lay out all his health issues in front of Isiah. After a few moments of thought, he supposed one or two details couldn't hurt.
"I'm nocturnal," he stated finally. "I can see perfectly in the dark, so naturally the eyes are hypersensitive to light." He gave a hmph, subconsciously squeezing Isiah's hand for reassurance as he took the next few steps.
[[So it took me like 2.5 hours to write that D< Anyway I figured Isiah may have more to ask after that, and if not... Since Isiah has to tell Q when it's dark, maybe it is better if you do the timelapse...]]

Isiah gave the statement a little time to stew before clearing his throat. "... Listen," he began. His tone was low, testing the waters so to speak. "I know you probably get this s**t.. or got this s**t. All the time. But I figure.. As long as you and I are going to be traveling together.. we may as well clear the air. It just depends on who wants to start."
He walked another few feet along the road, squeezing his hand a little as he paused to read a road sign- or what was left of it. "Thirty six miles to do it, anyway, until we hit real civilization." He figured it might take a few days.. especially since the pace was slow, the blind leading the blind, so to speak, but.. better than being in the shithole.
"I can if you want." He cleared his throat into his other hand, squinting against bright light as he began walking again, boots crunching with steady slow rhythm.

"Hrmm?" As Bornes listened, he didn't like where it was going, but he had a witty response lined up. Well, one he supposed was witty.
"I hope you're suggesting this just to pass time," he said with slight agitation. "Because there is no need. I know that whatever you were part of before the Fallout you are not a part of now. Either that or you are simply too lazy to follow the rules when no one else in your pack is around." He took a few more steps before continuing.
"And what I am has nothing to do with our safety. I am mostly human. This blindness is probably the only weakness we will encounter of mine." He let out out an annoyed breath. Him being 'mostly human' was in the eye of the beholder. but that was neither here nor there.
"Unless you have some psychological trauma you'd like to get off your chest."
The whole situation was becoming a bit frustrating for Bornes. They were out in the wilderness and he was blind. Bornes knew his limitations and he'd been blinded by the sun far more than once. But he usually stayed put until it set, not wandered around with someone he didn't really trust in an area he wasn't familiar with.
His answers were formed both out of seriousness but also annoyance. He wanted the conversation to drop, but he also wanted to test Isiah's temper. But if Isiah had a short one, Bornes figured he'd be taking a punishment for his lapse in judgment shortly. He was, after all, the easy one to take advantage of currently.

Isiah growled quietly in his chest. He had a short fuse when it came to certain things, but nothing had particularly 'set him off' so to speak- at least not physically.
"I don't run with 'packs'. I'm not a dog." There was a long pause to add insult to the statement. "And if you're insinuating I'm lazy I can leave your blind a** here. I'm dragging you like a dead limb, and you know it. Least you could do is be polite.." He grumbled the last part, walking forward. "And the only psychological problem I'm currently dealing with is... I can't figure out why I decided to HELP your a**, rather than leaving you there to get eaten by the hungry mob."
He rolled his head on his shoulders, sighing as a thin veil of sweat began to materialize on his forehead and temples, reaching up with his spare hand to wipe his hand free. "Because I'm not sure the half pack of cigarettes is worth your shitty attitude."

Bornes let out a small grunt of disapproval.
"Half a pack? It was unopened when I gave it to you. I said to only leave me one or two cigarettes. You can have the rest."
He let out a loud exhale before continuing. "If you're so quick to air dirty laundry, then you can do your own first." It was a surrender if Bornes would ever give one.

"******** you," was Isiah's only verbal reply. He wasn't exactly excited to talk anymore. He was regretting his decision- but if all else failed.. at least it wouldn't technically be cannibalism.
The two trekked on through the day in silence, the pace slowing significantly at noon before increasing again as the sun began to set- when it was half over the horizon, Isiah released Bornes' hand with a great sigh of release. "Can you see now?"
