"Well, to dance..." Oboé began, pausing a moment to search for the right words. "You move your body to match your emotions." she said, her voice slow and smooth. "And as for vines..." Oboé spit out her tongue disgustedly and shook her head. "I got tangled in them and tried to chew my way out. I was unsuccessful, but managed to get out by other means." she explained, suddenly feeling talkative. "But the taste has forever been burned into my memory." she sighed.
At the small cub's question, Oboé began to blink and looked quite confused. "Why," she stared down at Risasi and frowned. She nuzzled his head instinctively and tried to nudge him onto his feet. "We're going home, aren't we?" she asked, frowning with sadness as if his feelings had melded with hers. After a moment of staring at the trembling cub, Oboé decided it was bust to keep walking. She didn't understand how to cheer him up. But then an idea struck her.
"Shall I dance for you, cub?" she asked, bending her head down to look at him with a playful smile.

"Then I definitely don't want to taste one," Risasi said, unintentionally mimicking her disgusted expression. He was still depressed, but he liked to talk to her, and even though his voice was sad and distant, he still wanted to continue the conversation. Blinking the face away, he tilted his head at her as she nuzzled him, smiling wanly.
He decided he would trust her, even if she was confusing, and see where she was leading him. It took him a moment to stand again, even at her prodding, feeling disinclined to wander further despite the resolution he had just come to. Sitting back down again, he looked as if her were about to burst into tears, the mention of going home bringing back all too clearly the knowledge that he had no idea where it was.
Looking up at her under sad, low eyebrows, he sniffled and nodded slightly, trying not to move too much lest it encourage a flood of tears, "that would be nice..." he offered, his voice cracking, "I'd like to see it... if you want to..."

Hmm...DID she want to dance?
Oboé glanced up at the night sky as she pondered, mouth dropping open stupidly as she thought. She blinked slowly, still thinking...Still thinking...
"Ah, of course!" Oboé said abruptly, turning her head down once more to the cub, smiling. She cleared her throat and stretched her limbs, echoing a routine that had been used many times by her in the past. Her stretch enticed a yawn and she shook her head, as if sleepy. Oboé then placed a relaxed smile on her face and knew she was ready to dance.
Then the hair stood on her back.
Gold eyes darting to the left, Oboé stared into the wooded area beside them. The smile was gone from her face and in its place was a look of seriousness. She stared in silence, body unmoving. Her heart fluttered and her eyes began to narrow slowly.
Something was watching them.
Oboé took in a silent whiff. She tensed her body, muscles bulging under her pink fur in preparation for something. She smelled hyena.
"Risasi," Oboé called firmly, still looking to the left. The way she said his name sounded as though it was a sentence on its own. "we are going to run now." Finally taking her eyes off of the trees, she looked down into the cub's scared eyes. Without waiting for him to say anything, Oboé nudge him sharply to his feet and ran.

Risasi watched as she prepared to dance, yawning at the cue of her yawn. He was getting sleepy, and the contagious action reminded him of how heavy his limbs were beginning to feel. Frowning slightly, trying to keep himself entirely focused on her dance, he ignored his own complaints as she smiled. He was excited to see it, and was disappointed when she seemed to hear or see something.
Crouching to the ground, a natural reaction when someone made the kind of expression she now had on her face, he looked around cautiously. If she wasn't moving, then he wasn't either. He had no idea what she might have sensed, for he could hear, smell, and see nothing, but he was on edge none the less. Even if it was another weird quirk of hers, it wouldn't hurt to be cautious.
He reacted to his name, his muscles coiling as if they anticipated the order that had not even been enunciated. He stared at her, wanting to know what it was, why they were in danger, but her nudge was effective. He turned and ran, as fast as his little body could take him, stumbling over his own paws but never breaking stride. He tried to keep up with her, but soon lost track of where she was in relation to him. He kept on running, until he felt as if his heart would explode in his chest.
Skidding as he stumbled and finally fell down, he pulled his body around to look behind him sharply. There was nothing behind him. No sign of danger. Panting, he realized he knew the tree he was staring at. Standing up, he span in a circle. This was home. These were the familiar lands around his den. He would be able to make it back to his family from here.
Letting out a happy, but small, cry, he looked around again, this time for the pink guardian that had brought him home. His joyous expression fell, however, when he could not find her.
She had vanished. Or maybe he had vanished from her. Either way, they were no longer together.
