I'd say the biggest problem was not getting new people in there. Yeah. What I found confusing is that the whole thing seemed like an inside joke and I was intruding. It seemed there was a whole story behind it and I was unaware of what it was so it really made it hard to post anything.

In that case I completely agree that the biggest problem was not having new people. You need people whos ideas clash.
