"Junk, junk, junk, letter from Lance, letter from Jou, letter from Pyro, ANOTHER letter from Pyro, letter from Wraith (probably a rant)..." The half-fox muttered vaguely to herself, ears twitching under the weight of a brown, white, and black winged kitsune. "More junk, junk..." Her black-furred hands shuffled through the stack of mail, left for a week unattended in the mailbox. "Jeez, you'd think people would have something better to do in life than send me junk mail."Chevyo yawned, front paws gently kneading the fox-girl's forehead. It could be worse...it could be that she got NOTHING but junk.
His nose twitched. Golden eyes opened wide as he wriggled forward, resting his paws on the bridge of D-chan's nose, whining anxiously. Something important was among the mail, he could feel it..."Chevy?" As the winged kitsune made his way slowly over her head, leaning lower over her face, her hands touched on a bulky envelope. Curious, she removed it from the unwieldy stack, examining it with extreme interest and limited concentration. A low rumbling growl rose in her throat as she replaced the envelope, wrenched the door open, and stalked inside, tossing the rest of the mail onto the table before dropping into a chair.
One black-furred finger slipped under the envelope's flap, slitting it unevenly. As she turned it upside-down, a copper-black key dropped to the table, along with a thin sheet of paper. As D-chan picked up the paper, Chevyo fluttered down to inspect the little metal rod that clattered so brightly on the wooden table. He pawed at it gently, listening to it click more. Such a nice toy! Who could have given it to D-chan?The half-fox leaned back in her chair, one arm thrown across its back, the other holding the open page. "Dear D-chan Spiro," she read aloud. "Congratulations. Take care of this key. Feel free to stop by the Velveteen Toychest at any time." She cocked an eyebrow at the note, glancing over it to see Chevyo batting playfully at the little metal stick. "How informative." Chevyo grinned up at her, chirping happily and dropping down atop the new 'toy.'
D-chan grinned. "Enjoy yourself, Chevy," she chuckled. "It's yours. For now."

"You look like an old woman, I hope you know," Kaen grumbled. His head rested on his bi-colored talons, one violet eye fixed on the half-fox. She sat on the couch, red yarn twined about her fingers, the opposite black-furred hand sending a single teal hook speeding through the heavy thread, leaving a braid-like chain in its wake."Shut up, birdie," she muttered, examining the chain carefully. "Needs to be longer," she mumbled, returning to her work. "Old woman or not, this needs to be done.""Oh? And why is that?" the sparieh asked impassively, beak clicking over his words. The sudden squeal overhead grabbed his attention. The quadrapedal avian's head jerked up, violet eyes fixed on the bundle of brown and white fur flying awkwardly overhead, a blackish-copper key fixed in his tiny fanged mouth.
"...ah. I see."D-chan laughed as Chevyo landed on her head. "You like that key, doncha, Chevy?" she chuckled. The winged kitsune chirped happily in return. "Well, I'm going to find a better way for us to hang onto it. Kay?" The small three-tailed fox squeaked happily as D-chan slitted the yarn, knotted it, and reached for Chevyo.
The recently hatched guardian spat the key into her black-furred hand. "Thanks, Chev," she grinned, threading the ornate metal rod onto the newly crafted chain. Swiftly tying the ends, she dangled the new pendant over her head. Chevyo squealed in pleasure, batting at the newly improved toy in a gleefully feline manner."I still say you look like an old woman," Kaen grumbled. D-chan grinned at him triumphantly; it took a moment to realize that he had lapsed into English again. "Blast you." The half-fox simply smiled.

D-chan Spiro D-chan paused outside the Velveteen Toychest shop, green-gold eyes staring through the window. Her fingers light on the key danging on the red yarn chain, warm and smooth against her furred fingers. "I've been meaning to come back," she muttered, tugging on her ponytail gently. "There's too much that I still don't know."
Steeling her nerves for the first time in a long while, the half-fox moved up the stairs and opened the door, listening to the bell chime brightly overhead. "Hello?" she called carefully. "I hate to be a bother, but...I kinda have some questions."
A pair of familiar faces greeted her expectant gaze. She smiled brightly as she moved into the room, feeling more confident by the minute. "Donna? LP?" she asked. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything! How are you?" Donna the Vixen Looking up from her conversation, and watch of Willow, a beaming glow came to play upon her features as she beheld her friend.
"D-chan! Long time no see!
I'm doing well. I just opened the chest a while ago."
She couldn't help but swell a little with pride over opening the chest. It wasn't a big thing really, but it was of signifigance to her at least and she planned to show off her baby at least a little bit before her ego shrunk back down. D-chan Spiro D-chan grinned and moved forward into the large room, leaning over the couch. "Oh? And what was waiting inside for you? Did you see anything for me in there?" she joked.
She looked around the room carefully for a moment, eyes smiling at the familiar plush toys lining the shelves. "So, what happened, exactly?" she muttered. "I don't really know much, and I was hoping to find out a little more." Donna the Vixen "What happened?
Well...At first I thought my key was posessed. It began shaking violently this morning and scared Maxine to death."
She couldn't help but chuckle even then. It had been rather funny to pry Maxi's claws from the floorboards while she kept glaring at the key. She was probably still pissed Donna wasn't home...but that was nothing new.
"I got a Harpy Eagle in the end, and no I didn't see anything for you yet. But I bet your key will start reacting really soon!" D-chan Spiro "Your key was possessed!?" she yelped, laughing under her breath. "Poor Maxine, that must have been traumatizing for her," she chuckled. "So the key reacts...to what, do you know?" she asked curiously. "And...an eagle?"
The half-fox's ears flicked back at the thought. "Does it have a name yet?" She shied away from the kitsune, green-gold eyes searching for the avian. Donna the Vixen "No, it turns out that it wasn't. I think they shake or do some weird stuff when the chest is ready. I'm not really sure...but I don't think it reacts to anything in particular."
She then rubbed the back of her egolistic head and gave a nod over towards Willow and Mr. Eagle's direction. Indicating they two were at play at the moment, and she'd let D see him later.
"I'm thinking about naming him Arnaud. It means swift and strong..." LP LP blinks looking at Dani "Oh hello." She had been in deep thought for a bit finally shook out of it watching willow with the plush. Lp yawns, "The keys do different things depending on the owner really, I've heard some glow, mine called to me... thought I was wacked for a second but then I looked at the key and was like.... oh... and some people just know... I hope you don't mine my jumping into the coverstation." Willow waved at Dani and smiled sitting the plush down softly and then watching it float in the air she giggled and clapped. "Lookie he can fly with out having to be alive." Donna the Vixen "We don't mind ya comming in LP and what does she mean--oh my goodness!"
Her eyes widened as she had turned to see what Willow meant, only to find her Eagle floating. Did Willow do it? Maybe a ghost...she wasn't precisely sure. But like an audiance member at a magic show, she swept her hand under the bird to assure herself it was truly floating.
That was a new...
"How'd you get him to...float?" D-chan Spiro D-chan sighed as she pulled the red-yarn chain away from her and over her head, holding the key up to eye-level. "So, then. I hear you're supposed to do something when you're ready. You're not ready, I take it? Would you do something now, maybe? Please?" The tarnished copper key winked and glittered in reply. "Yeah, I didn't expect much," she chuckled weakly, tossing the short metal rod into the air and catching it in one black-furred hand. "Still warm, at least." She shook her head, smiling at LP. "No trouble at all. I like the conversation."
Her green-gold eyes glanced over at Willow, looking very different from the first and only time she had seen her. She also caught sight of the plush beside the small tiger-girl, her ears flicking back involuntarily. "Arnaud...it's a very fitting name," she chuckled weakly. She shied yet further from the eagle as it began to float. "Okay, that's enough for me." Donna the Vixen "You're not the only one?
I knew it'd be able to fly but not so soon... Willow?" sweatdrop LP Willow still giggling, "It's Charely he's doing it." She looked at them, "I suppose you want him to set it down? He wasn't going to hurt it I promise. He just thought it'd be funny to see what your reactions were." Her eyes got big again like earlier.LP snickered. "Well it could be wrose. Atleast ghosts can't really harm a phsical body without some sort of aid. They can as you say possess a being..." She looked at Dani when she caugh the movement away from the bird, "You okay?" Donna the Vixen "Oh!"
The relief was evident and she only patted both the Eagle and Willow on the heads before resuming her calmer composure and allowing them to continue thier play.
"Tricky little ghostie...But no harm done. Besides, I don't think Arnaud minds. Well, if I name him that anyways. What do you think Willow?"
She smiled at the thought of finding a name others might approve of. Not that she was completely reliant of everyone's opinion, but she thought it might be nice that her Eagle have some early friends and connections that may give some comfort later in his lifetime.
It was good to have friends. D-chan Spiro "...Charley?" D-chan muttered, ears flicking back and forth. "Ghosts?" She laughed softly, turning away and attempting to catch sight of the spirit out of the corner of her eye; beyond the "fairy lights," she could only see such phantasms in her peripheral vision.
Her concentration was broken by LP's question. "I'm fine," she chirped, trying not to look at the bird. "It's a cute eagle...but birds aren't really my thing," she chuckled. Donna the Vixen After LP pointed it out and D admitted to her discomfort, she made a mental note that it might be best not to put her Eagle too close to poor D. It was never a pleasent thing to have something of discomfort shoved in your face in an attempt to "cure" you. LP Willow smiled, "I like that name." Andher and charely kept playingLP chuckled, "Well I'd have to say you shouldn't come to my place then, being in the woods and all.." Donna the Vixen She decided it best to show some affection towards the Eagle, who had since been floating under Charlie's guaidance, and crept up towards the bird to gently ruffle his velvet with her features. Nuzzling close for a moment before allowing him play with Willow some more, so she and D could still talk at a reasonable distance.
"I'm sorry to hear you don't like birds" D-chan Spiro D-chan shrugged. "Hey, I live out in the middle of the woods, too," she muttered, leaning over the back of the couch. "I like the company, but people hate the hike," she snickered. "What I need is to get Kaen to act as a shuttle."
The half-fox sighed a bit. "Well, it's not that I dislike them...honestly, I think they're amazing creatures...but they scare me a little. My dad had lots of birds, and they bit me...or they were too small and I was afraid of hurting them. It's a little scarring, after a while...it just stays with you, ya know?" Donna the Vixen "Oh, well I suppose that might make you a bit uncomfortable with them wouldn't it? Don't worry though, I won't let him bite you or anything. Or let him get too close if you like. 3nodding " D-chan Spiro "Well...he is just a plush..." the half-fox muttered, sneaking around the couch to sit near Donna. "And he doesn't seem all that intimidating. He has nice eyes." She peered at the harpy eagle from a short distance, examining the plush carefully. "Quite pretty." Donna the Vixen She perked up at the compliment, and it was said that day that her ego swelled over three almost tiny centimeters of what it usually was.
"Thank you D-chan! I think they're pretty to."
She could then here the door chime, and turned her features towards it to see none other then Maxi and Celtic waiting for her to come on. It seemed she'd stayed later then intended and they were rather adamant on beckoning her home.
"It looks like time has gotten away from me, and I must be going. Goodnight D-chan, Willow, Lp, Charlie."
See you tommorow!"
She then plucked her Eagle from the air and waved goodbye before she was gone from the shop. D-chan Spiro "Bye, Donna!" D-chan called, waving to the woman as she left the shop. "See you later!" Her attention turned to Willow and her invisible friend; and to LP, lost in thought. "So quiet," she sighed.
A moment later, the half-fox stood, fingering the key around her neck. "I'm afraid I have to get going, too," she chuckled apologetically. "See you soon!" Smiling and offering a final wave over her shoulder to LP and Willow, she moved away out the door and down the cobbled street as the sun began to set across the land.

D-chan Spiro D-chan paused again on the street, staring up at the strange little shop that had caught her glance once again. It was so easy to miss, hiding among the larger buildings...a quaint little glass-fronted edifice with a sign in the plush-filled window that proclaimed the shop to be The Velveteen Toychest.
Her wide black paws pranced up the stairs. One hand rested on the handle of the door for a long moment, the other touching the black-copper key dangling from the red yarn chain at her neck, before she pushed the door open. The cheery chime of bells met her tall ears, bringing a soft smile to her vaguely vulpine face.
"Hello?" she called. "Is anyone here?" The half-fox moved hesitantly into the plush-lined room, grinning a greeting to the stuffed animals lining the shelves. "Well, you are, but I expected that much," she chuckled. "Anyone else?" Iris_virus -After a long moment of silence, Iris finally poked up from behind the counter, glancing towards the door and Donna with soft curiousity. Realizing who it was however, she lifted her hand in greeting, smiling apologetically.- "Ohhhhhhh. Hello dear. I'm here. Something I can help you with?" D-chan Spiro D-chan smiles nervously at Iris' head, poking up from behind the counter. "Well, you see...a while ago I received a key that relates back to this shop...and apparently it opens some kind of chest or another, and a plush comes out of the chest...but it only happens after the key starts doing something, so I heard from Donna...and I think the chest might have something for me, maybe, because the key just doesn't cool down now. It's always nice and warm, like it's been on top of the radiator for a few hours. Am I just being crazy again? I'm a little confused, it happens a lot, I'm afraid..." The half-fox falls silent, ears flicking sheepishly back and forth as she watches Iris. "Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? I don't even know if I do." Iris_virus -Giggling a little into her hands, Iris mused happily, letting her fingers slide upon the counter as she made her way around it, stopping before the little vixen.- "Hmmm.. why don't you let me see dear?"
-Motioning towards the box, she explained lightly.- "Usually when keys are ready the chest emits some sign too. I haven't heard or felt anything today, but it could be something more subtle." D-chan Spiro D-chan blinked curiously. Well, this was certainly an interesting turn of events. "I've heard that the chest is magic?" she piped up, sneaking behind Iris to catch a glimpse of the elusive trunk. "What kind of magic? Do you know? I have a friend who loves to study arcane items, he'd have a field day around here, I'm sure..." She fell silent, tail flicking quietly back and forth, trying not to be too bothersome. Iris_virus -Iris passed the warm key back and forth between her hands carefully. It was definatlly talking. Strange that she hadn't noticed anything from the chest yet? Oh well. Nodding gently, she held the key out for her to retake.- "Oh it's definately magic. I don't know what kind though really..."
"My family has owned this place for a long while though."
"But anyway. Wanna take a peek? See a bit of magic?" D-chan Spiro The half-fox took the key back in her black-furred hands, the warmth seeping through the dark hair. "I've always had a magic fetish. Always out to learn after all..."
Which is why she leapt at the chance to see the chest in action. "I'd love to!" she chirped, her fingers curling over the dark copper as her green-gold eyes grew bright. "I'd love to see some magic!" Iris_virus -Iris meeped a little, a happy noise in return to the little foxes obvious pleasure.- "Kay kay! I've always loved magic myself. Not really for learning, just for watching and being amazed."
-Skipping backwards a few steps, she stopped as her legs bumped into the old wooden chest, tapping the top with her fingers- "Just put your key in!" D-chan Spiro The half-fox peered at the chest for a long moment, evaluating it with a critical stare. It seemed normal enough...just a normal old trunk. She held the key gently in her hand, fingering the long chain of yarn strung through one of its ornate loops...
...before she carefully inserted the tiny metal rod into the chest and gave it a swift, firm turn. Iris_virus -The chest openned silently this time offering up perhaps the most classic of plushes to ever come from the box. Iris gave an approving squeak at the little cutie inside, waiting to see the little vixen's reaction to the magic trick.- D-chan Spiro The half-fox carefully reaches into the chest and extracts a small cinnamon-colored bear. Her eyes travel over each careful seam, her dark fingers tug at the soft blue ribbon around the animal's neck, she gently plushes its soft limbs...
...before a wide smile breaks across her face. She grins up at Iris, eyes wild with excitement as she bounces to her feet. "That's incredible!" she chirps, spinning a few steps away, tossing the plush over her head. It lands gently in her hands, and she smiles fondly at it once more.
"Magic indeed," she murmurs, drawing the stuffed bear close. "Magic indeed."

Sunday, October 9th, 2005 Minnie seems to be doing well so far. I can't help but worry a bit sometimes...normally plush toys don't last long around me, especially in a house with eleven animalian occupants...though, really, Irony could probably be the twelfth...
Minnie has spent the last two days meeting the residents of the house. There were...mixed reactions, to say the least. ( sweatdrop )~The Fenthries~ Kurenai: Kurenai seemed quite enamored with the fuzzy little plush. She half-thought that it was for her...but she was quite understanding when she learned that Minnie was a new resident of the house. Now she is curious as to why the plush is being treated as something alive; she's never seen a living plush, after all.Koe: Koe was hardly interested in Minnie upon her arrival, until he noticed the way that she was being treated. After a bit of explaining, he seems to think that Minnie is like a fenthry: she will hatch from the stuffed animal, just as he and Kurenai and Kaju hatched from feathers. He's now taken to telling her stories whenever time (and D-chan) allow.Kaju: Kaju is a bit too young to have any solid opinions about Minnie, it seems. She treats the plush as just that: a plush. She doesn't understand Koe's perception of the stuffed animal as a fenthry, waiting to hatch. She's quite willing to listen to his stories, though, but she prefers to use Minnie as a pillow. Maybe she'll become a cuddly little companion for Minnie...she certainly likes the plush for cuddly reasons.~The Spariehs~ Kaen: Kaen's laughing at me. ( stare ) He thinks I'm utterly insane, treating Minnie as a living being. He flatters me, though; after all, maybe Koe's right, and she really is like a fenthry. He treats her well enough, but doesn't go out of his way for the plush.Hoshi: Hoshi likes to nibble on Minnie, as she does with all other things in life. She is gentle, though, as she feels that the plush may be more than she appears...after all, she witnessed Kaju's birth from feather to fenthry. Her sharp beak is very gentle, and only takes up an ear or the blue ribbon around Minnie's neck. She is also the plush's self-appointed guardian. From what? Well...Sherbert: Sherbert is more than curious about the new plush, and the attention given to her. She does not understand at all the concept of something being born from a plush...but, even the clown, she's willing to give anything a try. When not with me, Minnie can often be found in Sherbert's dull beak, being dragged to and fro by the upbeat little quadrapedal birdie.Arashi: Well, anything that I take a liking to is automatically a target of Arashi. How in the world it's possible for her to be the daughter of two of the sweetest sparieh I know is beyond me. She's out to get Minnie, and it's only Hoshi's commanding presence that keeps her from tearing the plush to shreds.~The Guardians of Gaia~ Kura: Kura is happy enough to have something else to take the house's attention up. She seems rather bored with telling fortunes through star-gazing, a common habit, as Chevyo loves to know what's coming. She holds a respectful distance from Minnie, but it's clear that she's interested, as her eyes are on the plush as soon as it enters the room with her. Chevyo: Chevyo is THRILLED by the new addition. And that's putting it lightly. Though he was sad to hear that the key wasn't around anymore (it was so warm after it started reacting; he loved it to no end), he was overjoyed to find that, WOW! New toy!! And it might be ALIVE!? Even more cause for celebration! Chevyo rarely leaves Minnie alone, and can often be seen hovering around her. ~The Songfoxes~ Danyeh: Danyeh always takes things well and gracefully. Much like Koe, he takes the time to talk to the plush, almost as though she is a flower that might grow faster if constantly talked to; however, only Greig and Kurenai understand a word he says, so the effort might be wasted. Well, he tries, right? Often, when not with Kurenai or Greig (or even sometimes with Greig), he will take a few moments to chirp something to the plush.Greig: ...Greig is cold and aloof. What else is new? He seems to think that everyone is making a big deal out of nothing with the new plush. He also seems to be ridiculing Danyeh for taking to Minnie. Again, what else is new? ( xd ) Hopefully he'll come around. ~The Sarling~ Keiei: Much like Kura, Keiei retains a respectful distance from Minnie. Unlike Kura, she seems to hold much more interest. She has taken to shadow-stalking more often, and can often be seen poking her vaguely equine head out of the shadows closest to the plush and out of the line of sight of whoever happens to be holding her. Her restrained curiosity abounds.~The Muse~ Irony: ...have I mentioned that I hate my muse? I do. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to explain what's going on to him...and he's showing unhealthy interest in Minnie. I'm half-afraid that he'll steal her and try to warp her impressionable young plushie mind...but that's probably my paranoia talking. He seems to like her. He talks to her more than he talks to me, so I'm pleased.
And me? Well, I love her. She's my Minnie. I hope that she'll like me when she becomes an animal...but I can never tell.
Tomorrow I'll begin introducing her to other facets of life that the rest of the household has forgotten.
Maybe we'll watch a movie. ( xd )
Until this pen again crosses your pages,
Yours Truly, ~D-chan Spiro

Monday, October 10th, 2005 ...okay, so today didn't QUITE go as planned.
I slept in and woke up to find that Minnie was playing audience for Koe, along with Danyeh. The songfox and fenthry have never been great friends before, partly owing to the fact that Danyeh is a guy (Koe has always had issues with guys), and he's one of Kurenai's friends. Koe has an automatic grudge against any of her companions, it seems...but Koe was spilling his lungs out to the plush and the songfox both. Danyeh was paying close attention, too, which probably made Koe feel better...so maybe Koe will have a new friend. That's always a nice thought...
Of course, Chevy wasn't far off. He was hovering overhead, as though searching for the perfect trajectory to divebomb the little group. Thankfully, he never got the chance. ( sweatdrop )
It was late, so I went around making lunch, as opposed to breakfast. Sherbert took over care of Minnie for a while, stalked by Arashi (who could have taken her on with ease) and Hoshi (who can take on Arashi). It seems like the entire sparieh population is somehow involved in the war...makes me wonder just what I'm getting into. I'll have to tell Kaen to control his daughter again.
I wish it would work.
After lunch, as I was getting ready to pop in a movie, I got some...unexpected visitors. Lance, Elise, and Crimson showed up out of the blue--
...okay, so it wasn't THAT out of the blue. Lance warned me in the letter he sent a while ago and I forgot. But it SEEMED like it was out of the blue!!
--for an afternoon of what he likes to call, "family time." So, of course, they had to meet Minnie...~The Friends (Part One?)~ Crimson: Crimson is a lot like the fenthry named after her. She was enthralled by the adorable plush toy, but a bit skeptical about the merits of plush toys coming to life. She was polite about it, though, and played with the stuffed animal throughout most of the conversation that lasted into the late evening.Elise: Elise has always put me a bit on edge, but she was rather laid back today. Doesn't mean she smiled, of course...she was even more skeptical than Crimson, but she wasn't rude about it. That alone surprised me. She complimented Minnie on her appearance, told me I made a good choice (and didn't listen when I told her the chest chose for me), and then ignored Minnie for the rest of the conversation. But that's Elise for you.Lance: As a general rule, I love Lance. We've known each other for years, and we can see into each other's minds half the time. He didn't laugh or mock me for adamantly claiming that Minnie would be a living breathing miniature bear one day. He just wants me to mail him a letter when it happens. Which is part of the reason I'm writing it here: so that I don't forget, as I seem to do everything else. Curse this blasted memory. Lance seems about as curious as Keiei, and in about the same manner...after all, the big tough dragon tamer can't be seen oggling a stuffed animal. ( xd )
So we had a nice afternoon at home, drinking tea and talking about "old times" and life in general...Lance proposed another campaign that we discussed for a long while. I don't want to go yet...I'm still going off the money from the last series we went on, and I don't want to just LEAVE Minnie at this stage...I feel that she's impressionable right now. Is that silly of me? It's how I feel.
Thank heavens he has to run it by the boys first.
...yeah, I should probably explain a little bit about my friendly relations.
See, I went to a boarding school from the time I was ten to the time I was about seventeen. I had a group of close friends: Lance, a dragon tamer; his cousin Elise, and her younger sister Crimson; Rae, a lion halfling; Wraith, a dragon halfling; Pyro, a winged wolf halfling; and Jou, who was something of a loveable idiot. The school burned down when I was seventeen, and Lance was blamed, which just sent all eight of us into a frenzy...so we left. Became mercenaries, actually, so that we had an excuse to run around looking for something worthwhile among people (we'd seen too much of the worst side of human nature).
Needless to say, we were satisfied. We settled down, then I came to Barton to meet up with a friend, and they moved in close by. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a "falling out" between myself and Jou, Wraith, Rae, and Pyro, with whom I'd been living for a few months...I up and left without a word. Wraith still holds a grudge, even though we've gone on another merc spree since...he's still nice enough to me, but he's not as open anymore.
Lance, of course, wants to go out again. Good idea, but I'm not ready. I told him that, and now he's going to be bugging me for a few weeks until the others either tell him yes or no. If they say yes, they'll go alone. If they say no, I'm home free.
Here's hoping they say no.
Until my pen again crosses your pages,
Yours Truly, ~D-chan Spiro

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005 I swear, nothing is going my way lately. It's okay so far, really...it's just that people continually interrupt my plans.
Late wake-up again today. Danyeh and Koe are getting along gloriously, much to my surprise and amazement; it seems that Kurenai and Greig have been sleeping in lately, and Danyeh's the one coming to early to spend time with Minnie and Koe. I'm not sure yet, but I think Danyeh's starting to teach Koe a bit of Songfox...that's a rather nice thought. Koe does need a friend that's not a baby or a (currently inanimate) object.
Minnie seems to be putting up with everything quite well. I hope the speech is getting through to her...Koe is trying so hard. It would be nice if Minnie could recognize him by the sound of his voice when she comes alive. Danyeh doesn't seem to expect much; he's just being nice in his conversation. Koe needs the company. Outside of his avid listeners (myself, Kura, Keiei, Kaju, and Hoshi [in other words, every dark aligned being in the house and then some]), Koe doesn't have anyone. Even outside the house, which makes matters all the worse.
Minnie, if you ever read this, go easy on the poor little fenthry. He cares so much.
I was up before lunch, so breakfast was served!
...only to be interrupted by another surprise visit from friends. This time, though, it was completely unexpected; they walked in on me in the middle of a meal. They were also summarily squawked out by one Kaen, who was still asleep, and one angry fox halfling with a rumbling stomach.
That'll teach 'em.
Of course, each of them had varied reactions to the explanation about Minnie...as did the old friends they brought along.~The Friends (Part Two)~ Jou: Jou is something of a simpleton, you know. We love him for it, though. He understands fenthries in the most superficial sense, so it was easy to convince him that Minnie will operate in the same kind of way. He seems thrilled, and was constantly staring over my shoulder to get a better look at her. Maybe it would be a good idea to invite him over more often, if he's that enthused, especially once Minnie is no longer a plush...Rae: Rae is the bookworm, and he adores anything and everything associated with any and all forms of magic. Telling him about the chest made his eyes light up, and letting slip the information that Minnie came OUT of the chest just made it worse. He couldn't keep his fuzzy hands off her, he was so desperate to unravel the magic behind her existence. Thank heavens Jou stole her back before he could snip her seams...Pyro: Pyro is timid, but often enough he finds interest in most everything that others offer to him. Magic is less his interest, as he only holds limited talents with fire magic...but he seemed to like Minnie, if only for her soft fur and cute looks. He smiled more than usual when he was allowed to cuddle the little cinnamon bear. She'll have to taste his cooking once she comes out; she'll love it, I'm sure. Everyone does. Wraith: Wraith is the coldest of the group. In the same vein, he seems to have fewer interests in common with us...and he showed the least interest in Minnie. Of course, his eyes kept darting to her when no one else was looking. He seems to have the same kind of attraction for the stuffed animal as he does from the fenthries...maybe because she starts as an inanimate object?
Of course, they couldn't just leave the other two members of the family at home...so Lyllix and Kenji, two of my former charges, came with them.~The Ningensogai~ Kenji: Kenji, the kangaroo ningensogai, is a lot like Jou: he's a fighter with simple likes and pleasures. He didn't share Jou's interest in Minnie, though; he asked his usual stream of questions about her, then lost interest as soon as he ran out of questions and she proved not to be able to move. It's like a feather; he'll ask about it, but when it's no longer interesting, he moves on. Ah, well. Maybe someday he'll find interest in her.~The Ikaji~ Lyllix: Lyllix is much like Arashi, in more ways than one: they have similar likes and dislikes, with myself being among the latter. If I like it, Lyllix doesn't. Simple as that. And, true to form, as soon as he heard about Minnie, his eyes narrowed. When Jou showed her off, Lyllix looked ready to claw her glassy eyes out. I'll remember to keep her away from him.
The rest of the household didn't get enough time to meet my old friends; instead, we headed out into town, then down the mountain to Barton Town for a day of shopping, conversation, and good food. Apparently, they've started up a restaurant, which is absolutely thrilling, in my opinion; Jou's the janitor and egg cook; Pyro does breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Wraith does desserts and pastries; and Rae plays manager, which is something he's terribly good at.
Kenji and Lyllix play as the equivalents of waiters; Café Créme is still very small, so it doesn't need waiters all that much as of yet. They hardly seem to mind, as Lyllix isn't all that interested in work and Kenji's too fun-loving to care for it, either. They already have patrons, though, and so many people are discovering the place now that they're talking about expanding.
I say they should change the name beforehand. ( whee )
I don't know about Minnie, but I liked the place. We might have to hang around there more often...or maybe we'll move back, close to town. I can take a job at the café, which will keep up a steady income, and the rest of the family can get to know my old friends. Minnie might even be able to act as a mascot! I wonder if she'd love me or hate me for that one...
Besides that, it was a quiet afternoon. Minnie "saw" most of Barton in our wanderings, and she met my old friends, as well, which is almost always a good thing...and, since that exhausts all my companionable resources, I'm hoping that I can FINALLY do what I want to do with Minnie tomorrow.
Until then. Let's hope the rest of the evening goes well.
Until my pen again crosses your pages,
Yours Truly, ~D-chan Spiro

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005 At least Keiei still has some loyalty left in her. ( stare )
Yes, yes, I know, I haven't written much lately. I have a decent excuse.
...I was kidnapped.
I kid you not! I was heading out for a night jaunt (in full merc gear, just for protection; you never know WHAT you'll find out there, after all). I was taking Minnie with me, so that she could share the experience with me...and we didn't get a quarter of the mile from the house when a nutjob with red hair jumped us with an electroprod.
...yeah. Darkness vs. electricity = little contest.
When I woke up, I was in what looked like a hotel suite, still clad in full merc gear (but lacking one staff), still holding Minnie...but locked up. With the owner of the Sarnin Observatory and the Ballerina from Hell, Kat (the assistant). Apparently an organization called "The Turks of ShinRa" were after the sarnins...which is why I got thrown in here, too: Keiei.
So. We've been stuck in here for a little while. I've been doing everything in my power to stay sane: a lot of that includes talking to Minnie and undenting my gear (you'd be amazed how fast the arm guards dent up, and they're pretty sturdy, lemmie tell ya; demons are pretty powerful).
Of course, turns out that the red-head that grabbed me isn't all that bad; his boss, Rufus ShinRa, grabbed Kurenai, Koe, Kaju, Danyeh, and Greig out of the house and brought them back (something about making them tiny spies...?). Reno brought them down to visit for a while...so maybe he's not so bad.
Either way, I'm ticked. I'm trying not to let Minnie get too much exposure to that, though...me being a merc again with an impressionable plushie around does NOT seem like a good thing. I'm edging for a fight, but that's not a good idea...who knows what these Turks are capable of, especially since I was taken down by a nutcase with an electroprod.
We'll find out later. Keiei brought Minnie's journal; that's about all I can ask for. I'll keep it updated.
Until something happens to change,
Yours Truly, ~D-chan Spiro

Saturday, October 22nd, 2005 I should be ashamed of myself, I know, but I was bored and I needed to see just how difficult it would be to get out of here if the need arose.
I left Minnie on my head; my headgear is charmed to fend off headshots, courtesy of Rae. Reno had left the fenthries and songfoxes with me...so it was just a matter of having the fenthries sneak out and distract the SOLDIERs guarding the door while the songfoxes unlocked it.
...you know, it's remarkably easy to get rid of those guys. One knock on the head and they were out like lights.
Should I have done something then? Should I have taken the opportunity while it lasted and made some daring attempt at escape?
Because I didn't. I was contemplating it, I suppose, when that red-haired nutjob showed up again and started waving his electroprod around. I've gone up against that weapon once, and I got my tail whipped. I'm not about to endure that experience again.
At the very least, I think he was surprised when I didn't put up more of a fight.
I still want some logic or sudoku puzzles. It's very boring in here...that ballerina isn't much company, obsessing over chocolate all the time, and Maru is more contemplative than I am. It's somewhere between quiet and unbearably annoyingly loud...so it's hard to concentrate until Kat's asleep.
Keiei informs me that the spariehs have headed back to the Sparieh Meadows until I come back. Apparently they took Chevy and Kura with them...which means that the house is empty. I wonder, do houses get lonely? That one must be used to it, abandoned for years...
I can't help but wonder what this is doint to Minnie...here I wanted to be a good "parent," and I wind up turning into a mercenary after just a few weeks. Is it hurting her? Is it just balancing her personality? Am I being paranoid again?
Kat's coming around. I'm still waiting for Reno to come back with those sudoku puzzles. Until next time.

November 8th, 2005 I wonder if my "roommates" are growing tired of me. I know I'm growing tired of this room. Sure, it's nice and cozy...but it's BORING. How long have I been in here? Almost a month? I'm waiting for something to happen so that I can get OUT of here.
Apparently Kaen and the rest of the spariehs are taking cover at the sparieh meadows, along with the Guardians of Gaia. They should be safe there, at least. I can't imagine anything hurting them there, at least...I imagine that there are some protections over the meadows.
As for me and Minnie...well, the songfoxes and fenthries haven't been by to visit much lately. I assume that the red-headed nutcase is taking good care of them...I hear that the blonde had been acting sort of weird a while ago, but he's back to normal now. Reno's not so bad, but that Rufus character that's taken over Keiei's mind bothers me.
Minnie's still a plush. I'm starting to think this is a bad environment for her...but it's not my fault. I have no choice in the matter, unless I want to get my tail fried off by one electroprod. Nasty nasty thing, that electroprod, lemmie tell you. Ever been shocked by one of those things? You don't want to be, I assure you.
I've been training. It's about all I can do, since Reno has yet to deliver those sudoku and logic puzzles, the rat. ( stare ) So I've been keeping fit. Nothing else to do. Minnie's always with me, usually on my head, since that's a comfortable place for her and forces me to keep my balance and stay attentive.
But it's horrible, at the same time. I'm hoping this doesn't warp her personality, constantly experiencing my training...with the way I understand it, the plush's experiences determine its eventual personality. With all the training, which is really for the fight I know is coming, I'm wondering if she'll turn out to be a fighter in the end...
...I hope not. I was hoping she'd be gentle. Something sweet but tied closely to family.
...life works strangely, though...perhaps it will all turn out well in the end. I can hope, at least.
Here's hoping Reno shows up with those sudoku puzzles. ( stare )

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005 I swear, I'm going to have to kill Kat if she keeps on trying to corrupt Minnie's impressionable plushie mind.
She's trying hard, too! I think she's trying to teach her to animate normal plushies (as in, not Velvet plushies, regular ones like the ones I make). She was doing SOMETHING and I don't trust her, so I might have to keep a closer eye on Minnie...
...though, tell you the truth, it's good to get her some new interaction. She's been cooped up with me for more than a MONTH now (I seriously have to ask Reno to let us out now and then, this is seriously getting annoying, even with the cat puzzle he brought and the games Kei's been bringing). Meeting Kat, no matter how detrimental it may be to her later sanity, may actually be better than I'm giving her credit for.
Kei managed to smuggle Chevyo in. I know I missed him, and he missed me (I think; he probably missed Minnie more, though, because he's like that. At least I'm big enough to be a perch)...but at least now there's someone else to watch Minnie.
...though, now that I think about it, he might be learning a thing or two from Kat.
That worries me. He's not supposed to be learning stuff that could corrupt his innocent little mind! ( gonk )
...yeah. I'm good now.
Kei also managed to sneak in a GameBoy (where she got it is beyond me, though) and this game called Fire Emblem, so I've been playing that for the last few days. It's...detrimental to my mental health, though. I keep wanting to write from its inspiration...but I can't, because I have no paper. I'll have to ask Kei for a writing pad from home before I start writing it in this journal, and that would not be a positive.
Forgive the short entries...there's really not much to say, considering how little there is to do around here. I'll work on that.
Until my pen again crosses your pages,

Thursday, December 30th, 2005 Exciting news from this side of the waking world! ( biggrin ) Minnie is no longer a plush! She's a living breathing miniature cinnamon bear!!
As you can tell, I'm overjoyed. ( whee ) It happened on the way back "home." I'm still taking it easy at the Sarnin observatory. I've decided it's impossible to get all three fenthries and both songfoxes away from Reno all at once so that we can escape. Besides, there's free food and interesting company. I still get to see Kura and the spariehs on occasion, when Kei gets them to fly in.
...it's amazing just how many of my charges fly. ( stare ) Considering my fear of birds, it's...rather ironic.
Anyway. As we were heading back to the observatory, with Chevy and Minnie in arms, when Minnie began to get very warm. Not burning hot, but...warm. Like Chevy.
Like something alive.
And as I realized that, I looked down and found that the plush was not really a plush any longer. She had become an animal, huddled down against my fur, her newly transformed body slowly growing warmer with the new life inside her.
And then she opened her deep brown eyes and looked up at me.
It was like looking into the eyes of a newborn. There was something there that I have yet to define...something that stirred my soul and made me want to cry and laugh all at once as I hugged her until I lost all the strength I possessed.
And she smiled a little smile up at me that made my heart melt.
I've never felt this way about anything before. Is something going wrong with me? I knew that something was special about Minnie, but I never quite knew what...and I still don't. All I know is that she is special, and she touches me in some way that I've never been touched.
Even now she's sleeping in my lap, curled up with Chevyo. The two of them are very close. It's probably because Chevyo has been interested in Minnie since I had the key that eventually opened the chest. I hope they stay close forever...
...maybe it's wishful thinking, but I can hope. Chevyo has been "teaching" her everything he thinks she needs to know in life. And I think Kat's helping, which does not seem like a good thing. She seems to take well to it, which frightens me more. Hopefully she won't use these teachings for ill purposes...
...if she does I may need to take drastic action. ( stare ) Kats beware.
For now, life is uneventful. Maybe it will pick up soon...though we really don't need it.
Until my pen again crosses your pages,
Yours Truly, ~D-chan Spiro

Saturday, December 17th, 2005 ...I think people might actually miss me.
SO. Since things have been pretty slow and quiet at the Turk Shop, so I decided to get out for a while. Stretch my legs, visit the spariehs, say hi to Kura, the works. Kaen, Sherbert, and Hoshi seem to be doing well, if a bit homesick...and Arashi's having the time of her life without me, I think, which doesn't really surprise me. ( stare )
But after that, I figured, "ya know, the house is probably dusty and lonely and DUDE I SHOULD HAVE DECORATED FOR CHRISTMAS AND SUCH BY NOW!" So I headed home to get some work done on THAT piece of work...
...and I found STUFF on my doorstep. ( eek )
This is probably the creepiest thing that I found...and also the largest. DUDE, IT MOVES!! ( gonk ) AND IT MAKES SOUNDS, TOO (though they're not really all that loud, it's more a sort of scrabbling and some growling)! IT FREAKS ME OUT!
...especially the little "FRAGILE" sticker on it. THEY PUT SOMETHING ALIVE IN THERE!?
...I hope it doesn't eat me, whatever it is. ( sweatdrop )
COOKIES!! They were sitting on top of the evil box...so I'm hoping that it wasn't cookie crumbs that turned it evil. THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EVIL COOKIES!! ( gonk ) They look so good...
This was also on top of the box, thankfully untouched by whatever's in the EVIL BOX. SO CUTE!! And from Donna! ( biggrin ) I'll have to thank her when I see her next. ( 3nodding )
AND AN EGG!! With a bow. Sitting NEXT TO the evil box. I'm just glad it's not hurt after all those cold nights! ( eek ) It still seems to be in good shape...and now it's sitting by the heater to keep it warm. From Meepfur, one of the Velveteen keepers...I'll need to thank her, too. ( whee )
And a letter! A very THICK letter, I might add. There's something in it...but I don't know who gave it to me. ( gonk ) It says it's from Santa. I LOVE YOU SANTA!!! ( crying )
And THIS!! It's...an interesting little package that I have no idea what is. Great. Sounds familiar. I HATE THAT RULE OF "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL CHRISTMAS." ( scream ) But, oh well. SOMETHING ELSE FROM SANTA!! LOVE FOR SANTA!! ( crying )
And one more box! It looks small, I know, but it's bigger than I thought. It's from Koko! biggrin YAY KOKO!
People love me. ( crying ) It makes me so happeh.
But Minnie seems curious about the evil box, the cylindrical giftbox, and the egg, more than anything. Could that be because there are living creatures inside? I hope they don't need food, I can't open them. ( gonk ) They literally will not come open.
So while I was getting decorations out of the attic, Minnie and Chevy were examining the gifts that I got and checking out the refrigerator. Apparently the spariehs cleaned it out before they left...which, now that I think about it, is probably the reason they left. No more food.
Well, that makes everything clear. ( stare )
But we managed to whip something up out of the pantry from stuff that doesn't spoil, so they ate and I worked. The house is looking much better now, with the gifts in their places of honor--
I just realized that I'm going to need a Christmas tree soon. Shoot. Especially since I don't know if I can make it out much to water the poor thing. Maybe I'll bug Reno to do it for me. He's a good guy.
Minnie and Chevy and I also headed for the store to load up on chocolate, which I'm going to keep in an air-tight container so that Kat can't smell it and confiscate it. She seems to like Reno a lot...which is kind of interesting. It's like a strange unrequitted love...or infatuation. Probably the latter.
But I feel kind of bad for her. She's a nice person, all in all (and I swear that I know her from somewhere), so maybe I'll try and help their relationship. If chocolate can calm her down, maybe the two of them can get to know eachother better and ALL WILL BE GOOD.
Speaking of Kat. SHE'S CORRUPTING MINNIE'S MIND. When I'm not looking she takes my little bear and starts trying to teach her about...the reanimation of plush toys, as I understand it. So long as it's not the reanimation of dead things a la Pet Sematary (I think that might be one of her favorite books).
Besides that, Minnie seems not to mind Reno, and she's starting to get to know the fenthries and songfoxies. Kurenai is thrilled to have a new "sister," that much is certain, and she tries so hard to figure out all there is to know about Minnie...which isn't that much, as of yet. She's so young that I don't think Minnie herself knows much about herself. She's enthralled by the songfoxes, especially Danyeh, as he's the one who sings and pokes Greig into playing. Greig never sings; he plays a shell flute. Danyeh sings, and she's enthralled...maybe because it's such a big voice from such a tiny little creature. I know he always takes me by surprise, and I've been living with him for months.
We'll have to get out to the Toychest soon. Minnie should meet other velvets, not just those few people around the Turk Quarters.
Well, until I can manage that, we're stuck again. The house is a bit brighter, Minnie and Chevy are asleep after a long day, and I'm just sitting here writing. And getting back into dragon lore. Dragon lore is wonderful for inspiration.
Until my pen again crosses your pages,
Yours truly, ~D-chan Spiro and Minnie

Sunday, December 25th, 2005 Well, Minnie now knows the classic Christmas.
So I've been sneaking out daily to check on my gifts. And check on my poor tree, which I was scared was on the way to death for quite some time as it was shedding needles all over and not drinking much water (aka water every three days or so I could give it one can of water, while the bin takes three full ones).
I found something ELSE on my doorstep a few days ago. ( biggrin )

I found this nice little bag on my doorstep a day or two ago! The tag says it's from one "MOO HAH HAH."
A little weird, certainly. BUT AT LEAST IT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT I'VE BEEN NICE THIS YEAR. I wonder if that means something nice will come out of it.
...I can only hope. ( sweatdrop )
BUT. Minnie's been strolling around the house (with Chevy), learning about every nook and cranny and very nearly giving me a heart attack every time I think I lose her.
Which is often. She's good at hiding. Especially when she has Chevy to fly her up to the higher hiding places.
BUT. We've been decorating the tree~! Chevy's great for those hard-to-reach high places, Minnie's great for the hard-to-reach low places (so long as she's not munching on the candy canes I give her for the tree; such cute little things, made like reindeer with chenile stick antlers and googly eyes and pom-pom noses; too bad she insists on tearing the wrapper at the bottom and licking away and away at it until there's little more than the hook left. Note to self: keep Minnie away from candy canes).
And yeah. I went back for Christmas Eve, spent it with Kat. Wound up giving her a lump of coal that I found on the way (TRY TO TEACH MY MINNIE TO REANIMATE PLUSH TOYS, HUH!? scream )
Ahem.
Anyway, gave her a lump of coal that I found on the way home, and brought along the bag that I found on the doorstep. It intrigued me, okay?
So. We were having Christmas that night when suddenly, the bag MOVES. And Minnie jumped a food into the air and very nearly squished Chevy before Kat's coal started glowing wild red, which sent both of them scrambling for the cover of a massive fuzzy tail to peek out at these two freakish gifts.
So. Coal went poof, turned into one strange little critter with horns that bore a strong resemblance to one red-headed nutcase Turk named Reno. And the bag sort of...exploded...and out came a strange little critter with a halo that bore a strong resemblance to what I expect might be Reno's boss, Rufus.
Now, this is only what I've gleaned from Kei, who's been hanging around him (for reasons I don't understand; I get the feeling she might just be out to betray me someday, and that's not a pleasant thought, I assure you).
So. Reno and Rufus have now been duplicated as demonic and angelic...critters.
Minnie is intrigued by Rufus. She keeps trying to get close to poke him and investigate his little angelic wings. He keeps on batting her away with a scowl and a little twitchy hiss.
Rufus' halo bobs. It's rather entertaining.
So Dani snuck back home this morning with Minnie and Chevy and Rufus (who is quite haughty and independent and insisted upon strutting on his own instead of being carried around like Chevy and Minnie) and opened the door...
...and was promptly attacked by a peppermint striped pteradactyl.
( eek ) I kid you not, a pteradactyl. That was immediately attacked by Chevy. And I was laughed at by Rufus, who was swatted by Minnie, who then promptly gave me a consolatory snuggle before we managed to capture the candy cane flying lizard.
It wants my hair. I'm convinced. I need to keep it on a LEASH now. The ptera and Rufus.
Of course, Minnie got her very first Christmas present this year. Remember that thick letter I got a few days ago with that crate (which I suspect is where the pteradactyl came from)? Well, I gave in to temptation and opened it.
Dude. REALLY CUTE PLUSHIE. And it was so cute, but I figured that Minnie would need/want something...so...one plushie for Minnie.
She likes it. It's about the right size, big enough to fit in my hand, so that when she stands on her hind legs she can waddle around, clutching it in her forepaws. It's a very, VERY cute image. ( whee )
I haven't gotten up the nerve to open up the rest (except Koko's; a lovely single-carnation bouquet biggrin ). Besides...I have the strangest feeling that they wouldn't open even if I wanted to open them. Namely that egg. I don't want to crack it!! ( gonk ) And the odd little cylindrical box...is stuck. Yeah, I checked.
AND SO. I'll tell more as soon as I figure out what's in the rest of the gifts...and if anything new happens with Minnie. She's so cute. ( whee ) I'll have to start updating with photographs. ( biggrin )
Until my pen again crosses your pages,
Yours truly, ~D-chan Spiro and Minnie

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005 I'm starting to think that the Turks might be planning a New Year's Party. They certainly didn't get a Christmas one out in time, but I've heard tell that Rufus was out caroling last night. That just makes me laugh so hard. ( xd ) I never would have expected the big boss of ShinRa to go out singing. Can he even sing well? I wonder.
Apparently, he's also a closet florist and a trash collector, but tell Reno I wrote that down. He'd burn this book if he knew. ( sweatdrop )
Took another visit home with Minnie and Chevy. Partly to check on the tree and the unopened gifts and partly to stock up on more chocolate; that stuff goes FAST, MAN. ( gonk ) Mostly because I just can't seem to keep Kat away from the stuff, and partly because I keep giving it to Reno. Poor Reno.
I think Minnie likes him. He's sort of the underdog around here, if you don't count Elena, who seems completely oblivious to everything negative said to and about her. She strikes me as the ditzy type; apparently she only became a Turk because some bunch of well-to-do crazies working for some other organization put Reno in the hospital and they needed more manpower to catch up.
Not that I'm really paying attention, mind you, ha ha. ( stare )
Apparently Tseng and Ruffie were really getting on his case last night. Drove him to drink, poor boy. So I played Psychiatrist in the Wall with Minnie and (we think) we made him feel better. Hugs and chocolate and therapy through a wall help sometimes, ya know?
Anyway, Minnie and Chevy and I bounced off for home a short visit to check on stuff at home and restock the chocolate supply.
...things had changed since we last visited, to say the least. ( sweatdrop )
I found this roosting on my couch when I got back. It's...it's a panther of some sort with wings, as you can see. I'm confused, needless to say, as to how something that large could hatch out of such a tiny egg. Because I think that came out of the egg.
Why is that?
Because I found this huddled in the cylindrical package:

It appears to be some sort of fox/cardinal hybrid. But...why is it GREEN, of all colors?
...it's still cute.
So for now, I'm calling it Kiri and letting it hang around with Chevy and Minnie. Rufus is staying at home, along with Kaori, as they seem to get along. Felines...are rather creepy that way, you know? They just WATCH you and PLOT and you can never figure out what's going through their heads.
In the meantime, Kiri and Chevy and Minnie and I are back in our home away from home, nibbling on some granola bars I snagged out of the cabinet. As much as I hate to admit it, they're not so bad. And they're good for me. Which is probably what makes it so sad. Stuff that's good for you isn't (usually) supposed to taste good, ya know?
Anyway. I've been studying up on Native American ideology lately. It's pretty interesting, tell you the truth. Makes me wonder about my totem, whatever it might be, and whether or not Minnie might symbolize it. See, during my explorations, I was reading up on how bears are characterized in the belief system and in lore. Mother bears are always characterized fondly in the stories, whereas the males...not so much. Often they are cruel and brutal or tricked and treated horribly. Females get it better, though.
What really gets me is the bear totem. Check this out:
"Power, mother cunning, healer, gentle strength, dreaming. In the Zuni tradition, the bear symbolizes the direction West."
Why West? Apparently, the west holds a special meaning:
"The place of maturity and good harvest."
Will that have some bearing on her personality? Tell you the truth, Minnie has yet to show any signs of power, so it might help to discover what her eventual powers might be. The part about being a healer is what interests me the most, though; apparently it's a common tradition that those blessed by the bear totem are healers, and often the strongest of the lot. Tehy're also powerful totems in general; as it says here:
"In nearly every American Indian culture, the bear is right up there with the eagle, the buffalo and other creatures as the most powerful of animal spirit helpers. Bear shamans are renowned for their healing abilities, especially from bullet wounds."
Interesting, eh? That's what I think, at least. Another interesting tidbit:
"This symbolizes its connection with solar energy, that of strength and power, and lunar energy, that of intuition."
There's also a warning for those blessed by the bear totem:
"Bear can sometimes be too quick to anger and too sure of it own power. While they have little to fear they can forget caution, which is an important trait to have. If bear is your totem be careful that you don't throw your caution to the wind. Being unaware of your limits in certain settings can be disastrous."
Well, curiosity killed the cat, I suppose. Or, in this case, the fox. I'll have to keep digging; this might turn out to be useful someday. Minnie has shown some of the motherly nature of the bear, but I have yet to notice much else. I'll have to keep a lookout for it...or, at least, what I can remember to look for.
Until my pen again crosses your pages,
Yours Truly, ~D-chan Spiro and Minnie
