'Tani just completely ignored the other's babbling about going out in the sun. That was a dumb thing to do anyway and 'Tani really didn't care if he couldn't do it. Though there was a part of him that thought maybe he could ... though he wasn't quite willing to try it, yet.
At the next question, the red cub scoffed slightly. "Nice? D'you really think vampires are nice? I barely see 'em," he muttered. He didn't sound particularly angry about that, though. Just... as if it was a fact of life. "What about your parents, huh?"

“I don’t know. I’ve never met one before now, so how am I supposed to know anything about vampires at all?” Kef retorted quickly. Damn logic. It was always popping up around him. He scratched one ear, idly pondering this question. Well… alright, so he now knew a little about vampires. He knew that they, supposedly, couldn’t go out in the sun and drank blood, right? But that didn’t mean anything. All lions drank a bit of blood when they ate, and not all lions were mean. So, clearly, not all vampires could be mean either, right?
Right! Perfect logical sense!
“I dunno about my parents. I sort of remember my mom, but I got lost when I was really young. And then I met Rangi. She’d lost her parents too, so we decided to stay together and wait for my parents to come back. And… umm… they didn’t,” he finished lamely. It was fairly clear from his body language that he didn’t want to talk about this any more. While he had gotten over being left behind by his parents, he was still sad about Rangi and the others.

One thing 'Tani wasn't very good at, though, was picking up on subtle clues like that. So he just tilted his head and asked, "Who the heck is Rangi? And if you got lost, they probly just couldn't find ya. Especially out there. If my parents wanted t'find me they probly could."
He shrugged slightly as if he didn't care, but a part of him wished that he was closer to someone in his family ...

“Rangi is my friend. Err… was my friend…” Kef’s ears lowered suddenly. Actually, every muscle in his body drooped at the same time, creating a perfect picture of depression in just one second. “Umm… see, I got lost and I found her. She had gotten lost too, I guess. Since my parents were looking for me, we decided to stay in one place. That way, my parents would come across us eventually. Or that’s what we thought. And at one point Rangi went out hunting… and just never came back.” In all honesty, he wasn’t even sure if she was still alive; he liked to think that his friend was alive and well, but logic argued otherwise. The world out here was no place for a lone cub.
All the same, he liked to delude himself by thinking that she had been found by her parents again and everything was happy, happy, happy. But if that happened, that begged the question of why didn’t Rangi come back for Kef…

'Tani blinked at that. Oh. Obviously this Rangi had been pretty close to Kefilwe. Or so Kef thought, anyway. "Huh. Well, maybe she found her parents an' they made her leave, so she couldn't go back," he suggested - almost as if reading the other's mind.
But for some reason, he wanted to give a reason that wasn't so depressing. Because he didn't like seeing the other upset.

Actually, Shetani’s words did cheer Kef up a little, although the difference could only be seen in small ways. His ears perked up slightly, for one, although they still remained lower than before. “Actually… that does sound possible…” and it saved him the trouble of angsting and worrying about what he had done wrong to hurt Rangi so much. Clearly, if his best friend didn’t even want to say good-bye to him, he must’ve done something wrong. “Um. Thanks.”
The word sounded awkward in Kef’s mouth; he had been taking care of himself, more or less, since the day he was born. Even when he lived with his mother, she had never been a very careful or attentive parent. She was nice, just… err… overloaded by six cubs, Kef thought to himself. “Umm… you seem very nice for a Vampire. Are you going to tell others that I’m here?” Because he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be in that pride, with all that Shetani was telling him. Vampires were something he should be afraid of, was the feeling he got.

'Tani tilted head at that, smiling at the other's thanks. "Heh, no problem," he replied. "The most depressing reasons aren't always the right ones, y'know."
Getting up, he padded just a bit closer and plopped down again. He kinda liked this one.
"I can be nice, when I wanna be," he said then, with a little smirk. Then, "Tell the others? Why? It's your own choice to come in here..." He shrugged. "I just didn't want one of the mean ones coming and makin' a snack outta you," he pointed out with a grin.

Kef gave Shetani a Look at the statement about the depressing statements not always being the right ones. Clearly, this cub, for all of his brave talk about being able to do whatever he wanted, had never been that far from his pride. In Kef’s experience, the most depressing statement often was the correct one. Like when his mother had accidentally left him behind… admittedly, his mother deliberately leaving him behind would’ve been even more depressing, but just being alone had been depressing enough.
“Well… I appreciate not being a snack. I don’t think there’d be enough of me to really be a snack anyway.” He looked down at himself momentarily, idly pondering just how much blood there would be in his body. Not much. Hopefully. Anything to appear as less of a meal to this pride. “I think I’ll stay here for a little while,” he added off-handedly and glancing off into the foliage rather than at the other male. “It’s interesting here. And the threats outside seem slightly worse than Vampires.”

"If you wanna stay, I can stop ya," he pointed out with a lopsided sort of grin. Following the other's gaze for a moment, he tilted head - wondering what worse things could be out there...
He'd like to go and see, someday. Demons, maybe..? Ri had talked about those, but they didn't seem so scary, just thinking about them. What was the difference? Except that they could go out into the sun.
"If you want interesting, you'll definitely find it here," he said finally, with a grin. "An' if you've got any questions, just come'n ask me."
(( Think this one is close to an end... XD But we could start another and have them explore ... in or out of the lands. Or even wander over into demon lands *shot* Now that 'Tani's finally Juve, and should be growing on schedule~ *excited* ))

Actually, Kef had mostly been referring to perfectly normal lions. Sure, Shetani said that Vampires were mean, but, so far, they seemed nicer than the normal lions Kef had met. Not that this was saying very much, seeing as his sample size of Vampires was just one. At least Shetani had offered to answer all of his questions. That was more than some normal lions had ever given Kef.
He smiled shyly at the other cub. “I’d like that. Now, I’m gonna go find a place to sleep… I’m getting tired. But I’ll come and find you again soon.” With that, the little brown male was off, exploring the jungle to find a nice safe place to sleep, preferably a place in the sunlight. Just in case Shetani was telling the truth about sunlight being bad for Vampires…
ooc| Kef's an adol now. <3~ So handsome! We should start another one, and let them explore and stuff. And just talk and whatnot.
