I enjoyed reading everyone's parallels. Unfortunate, just like in music, there's very little that is original. everything is just a variation on the same theme.
all the same, I enjoy watching all the variations....

Of course, occationally you can go to far, like with Kid Rock's 'All Summer Long'. I can't listen to Werewolves of London anymore without starting to sing it. stare

ArikaiHart Of course, occationally you can go to far, like with Kid Rock's 'All Summer Long'. I can't listen to Werewolves of London anymore without starting to sing it. stare Gah, that song! I never listen to the radio, but whenever my mom had it on over the summer, that seemed to be the only song ever playing! Ugh, overstretching parallels annoys me. I can't imagine all of the metaphors and allegories English teachers like to point out were intentional; it's got to be at least partly a case of looking too hard. However, there are obviously cases where it was intentional. Whether this is one, I can't say.

Anolis18 what the heck? Balthier reminds me of Obiwan Kenobi! Han wasn't the wise guy like Balthier!!! Give Hans a english accent. Then see how similar they are.

I was just yesterday playing Star Wars roleplaying game. That was great, so damn great. And having character concept of Davy Jones-like pensive captain made it perfect. Capt' scared space pirates away from our rusty cargo ship just by threatening them over radio. XD
Final Fantasy and SW has lot of similarities and I - as a fan of both - could not be happier. Were those meant to be or unintentional for the sake of basic idea of character, I don't mind. Both characters are scoundrels, ladies men too but bit different way. With movies and games, its most important to remember that each character is more a role and a concept than pure personality. Roguish space- or skypirate, we know mainly what that kind of character do and does not. As we know that such a character must have a close friend who is more silent than leading person and then story contains also a young upriser who works on a same team but challenges the scoundrel. And so on. biggrin

When you think of that, isn't there always a person in real life like that though. I can even pick it out throughout my friends. There's one who doesn't follow the rules and has that ladies man attitude, one's a innocent guy who has rarely got in trouble, but is always bored of his life. And the one raised proper and mannerly, and usually the reason the first two even talk to each other.

I'm sorry! biggrin Can't help myself for that. And I enjoy thinking through concepts and Platonic idea theory, social roles. It is so fascinating. This is also a schizophrenic way to see things; I also love the things that make such concepts alive and personalities. Black Baoz: Seconded. That does happen quite often at least to me it seems so. Every one of us can name at least one friend who is either lookalike to fictional character or has similar attitude or mentality. Are those people social glue? I'm living with a Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi. xd Author of this post is a female.

Okay okay, this has nothing to do with Final Fantasy, but apperently, somewhere in the UK, a bunch of people were being polled on their religion, and a bunch (over 1k) of university students said Jedi Knight. rolleyes

I wonder if they all planned to do it, or over a thousand people just... did, by themselves?

I know another connection look at the empire soldiers in Final Fantasy then look at the empire soldiers in Star Wars. Is it me or is the helmet the same style, most of their voices are changed in the same way. Then look at the terrain and look how many different planets it can be comared to.
