She blushed softly seeing her noble companion look at her in that manor and bow. It was just a small snake nothing much and she had intended to give it all to him. But she could not help but giggle. It seemed that he knew just what to do to make her smile. And gurbled softly and knelt too holding the snake out for him.

She could not tell that he had been worried for her, and she was just glad that her wings had not failed her...and she was able to find something.

The little griffin wasn't exactly sure what he had done, but he did recognize that the dragon was laughing at him. His cheeks tinged pink and he smiled in reply, slightly flustered at being laughed at, but he took the snake from her and chirruped his thanks.

He took a small bite of it and lifted his chin to gulp it down, then looked back at his companion and tilted his head curiously. Wasn't she going to eat something as well?

Seeing the embarrassment of the gryphon she whimpered just a bit then and leaned forward to lick his cheek. She tilted her head to watch him eat and moved to lay on the entrance to their vases starting to dose off watching him.

She was very glad she did not have to be alone.

The griffin smiled and nuzzled against the dragon's face as she licked his cheek, and since she then moved off he assumed that she didn't want any of the snake. Well, he would find something for her later then, he decided. He wasn't going to let her do all of the hunting, he had to help out as well. He tore off another bit of the snake and raised his head to gulp it down, keeping an eye on his companion.

Sleep ... she looked like she was falling asleep.

His instincts kicked in, and he turned serious all of a sudden. Sleep was a vulnerable position to be in. If she was going to sleep, then he was going to guard over her, protect her.

He flew to perch on the top of the crumbling castle ruins so that he could see further in every direction, peering around, his yellow eyes narrowing as they scanned their surroundings.

The dragon looked up and lifted her head to watch him. He gave a soft thank you chirp and lay her head back down on her hands. He was just going to watch him eat and gaurd their home but if he was going to watch she would take a short nap. She hopped he would finish the snake too. When she woke up she would let him sleep with a full belly.

The griffin continued to eat, keeping an eye on the area around them as well as watching his dragon companion. He hadn't been able to do his duty before, but now he was going to do what he needed, and he was going to keep guard like he was supposed to.

He had just finished the snake when he heard a little sound over to one side, and his head snapped in that direction, eyes bright, searching for what it might have been.

Ruque was on a mission to find a certain herb that his mother had shown him once, to make a sleeping draught for his aunt, who was very distressed at the moment. It only grew in the swamp, and he had been entrusted with the task of finding it. It was the first time he'd been entrusted with something like that, and he wanted to do it well.

"Somewhere around here," he muttered to himself, refusing to admit to himself that he wasn't quite sure where he was anymore, or how to get out of the swamp. He knew he was somewhere in the middle of it, but it was a big swamp and he didn't know which way he was supposed to be going anymore. He had been going in circles, trying to avoid the muck, but his sandals were caked in mud and slime, his pants covered in dirt.

The lightly dozing dragon woke up and looked up at her companion. She gave a soft chirp and moved upwards to him. She shifted her gaze from his solid young from to gaze and their surroundings. What had gotten him so alert. She heard the sound of movement. She turned to look that way and sniffed the air...the scent was not of the swamp that she was picking up.

The griffin gave his dragon companion no more than a quick glance before looking once more in the direction from which he had heard the sound. What had it been? Something was approaching, he could feel it in his feathers ...

Bracing his hands and feet against the rocks, he leapt into the air and took flight, taking cover in the trees but careful not to make a sound as he headed in the direction of the disturbance.

"Ow," Ruque muttered, tripping over a log and falling to his hands and knees. "That hurt ..."

He sighed. He was never going to find the herb this way ... he knew what it looked like, and he was certain that it was supposed to grow on the edge of the swamp, but he hadn't seen it there, and now he was lost somewhere in the middle with no hope of ever finding his way out again.

"I'm so lost," he muttered, certain that no one was around to hear him. He felt a sense of helplessness and hopelessness welling up inside him, but he took a deep breath and forced it down, willing himself to be brave, to face the swamp without being afraid. He wasn't a coward - he refused to be a coward!

Seeing that the gryphon had the air the small dragon moved along the ground the same way. She moved sliently. She tilted her head hearing a voice and moved till she could see a child. She could hear the worry and fear in his voice and protector within her forced her into action.

She walked and all fours slowly over to him and very gently bumped his backside with her head. Maybe he was from the castle and was coming back for their vases? She looked up at him and gave a soft burble.

The griffin perched in a tree above the others to watch and see what would happen. If the boy proved to be dangerous (which he doubted, he sincerely felt as though the boy needed protecting rather than the other way around) then he would be prepared to rescue his companion.

Ruque squealed with fright when he felt himself being butted from behind, and he whirled around, tripping over his own feet and landing in the muck of the swamp.

"Who - who are you?" he asked in a voice that sounded much braver than he felt (though even his voice was shaking with terror). After all, it wasn't every day that one found oneself face to face with a dragon ... even if she did seem sort of human. "Don't ... don't hurt me ... I ... I didn't mean to come in your space ..."

His voice was starting to squeak now, a sign that he was terrified.

"I just ... was looking for some herbs and I got lost ..."

He whimpered, too scared even to move.

She jumped in shocked as he cried out and jumped back. His voice was mocked bravery. She tilted her head at his words. She got slightly teary eyed but she just looked at him confused.

He was looking for an herb? She looked at him then motioned to his right where there was an herb growing. Maybe that was the one he was looking for? She chirped softly confused.

Ruque swallowed hardly and looked towards the plant that the dragon was pointing at. It wasn't the one he wanted, but ... it made him feel better nonetheless, it meant that she was helping him, and hopefully it meant that she wouldn't hurt him. It helped to give him a little confidence, and he took a deep breath and tried again.

"No ... that's not the one," he said softly, calmer now. "But thank you for trying ..."

He bit his lip anxiously and looked around, then looked back at the dragon girl. "Do you know how to get to the outside of the swamp?" he asked her quietly. "That's where I'm supposed to find the herb ..."

Tilting her head to the other side she sat down. The dragon wished that the 'human' would tell her what herb he was looking for or what it looked like.

She glanced up at the gryphon when he asked about getting out of the swamp. Why would he want to leave this wonderful place...the site of their home? She nods and spreading her wings jumped up into the sky's flying up above the trees. She looked around from the nearest end of the swamp.

When she landed she burbled at Ruque and started to walk towards the nearest end which of course would be straight threw muck and water.

The little griffin agreed with his dragon companion: they had to help the boy find his way, and make sure that he made it to his destination safely. However, he also realized that the boy wasn't from the swamp, that he had another home, and that that was probably the reason he didn't want to stay in the swamp.

He flew down from the tree and joined the dragon, walking alongside her and glancing over his shoulder occasionally to make sure that the boy would follow.

Ruque blinked at the two creatures - where had the other one come from? - and rose hesitantly to his feet. They wanted him to follow them, that much was obvious ... perhaps they would take him to where he needed to go.

"I'll trust you," he told them softly, following after them carefully, trying not to trip into the muck again. "I just hope I'm making the right choice."

The dragon wondered if her and her partner were really that much to distrust. She sighed and continued on slipping into the deeper water and swimming much like a snake or iguana would her wings ever now and then flapping to help her swim.

She would help the boy get free then return to guard a castle that was dead and alone.
