She was silent for a moment before looking over to Vatsa with an It was that obvious? look on her face.

"I suppose you could say that..." she started. "I want to travel for the sake of trave...but I don't want to travel alone." she took in a deep breath before admitting her secret that she had only told her mother. "And yes, I envy them. I didn't think I'd be so far behind..."

Tuli shrugged slightly, she wasnt' sure that a stallion would understand a mare's longing to be a mother. She wasn't old by any means, but she felt that twinge that time was ticking.

She looked back to Vatsa with a smile as he again complimented her, "Thank you, Vatsa." her voice softened even more as soaked in his words. "Meh, it will happen one day." she tried to shrug off the topic.

She tried to change the subject, getting back to Vatsa and his travels. "So you travel a lot? Have you been to many interesting places?" Tuli loved to hear other's stories of travel. She imagined what the places would be like as the others described their tales.

'Not one for wandering out alone huh? It's nice sometimes, you don't have to worry about anyone else but yourself.' Vatsa smiled.

'But I understand liking to have company, you can't share experiences with yourself after all.'
He leant and nipped thoughtfully at one of Tuli's ears.
'It will happen for you too, I am sure. Someday, you'll be swept off your feet by a wonderful stallion, and he'll treat you as you should be treated. With care and affection.'

Vatsa did get that some mares wanted to be a mother, it was a safe bet that his own mother must have had the same longing at some point or he wouldn't be here.
'I've travelled since I grew, took a trip part way along one of the mountain passes, but I'd started too late in the day and couldn't make the whole journey before dark. I hear tell there is a waterfall somewhere at the base of one of them, I'll have to find it someday.'

"I don't get far from home...My father has told me stories of terrible creatures," she referred to the Kalonas and Skinwalkers that wandered about. Her father had caused her to become terrified of these breeds, telling her stories of them since she was a foal.

She began to loosen up even more under Vatsa's attention. Tuli had a slight problem of 'open mouth insert hoof' sometimes. Without thinking, she laughed heartily and answered, "I doubt that. Every stallion I've ever met has run the other direction!" she flashed a toothy grin. "You havent' met my father." she honestly thought that her father was the reason most of the stallions she ever met, never returned. He could be scary, even if he really was a mush.

"Yes! There's a beautiful waterfall not far from her, actually. It flows from the mountains, pooling to make a beautiful lake near the edge of the northern meadow. I could take you there, well...if you're still around come daylight." Tuli didn't travel much after night fall. She knew that's when the darker soquili roamed.

'I've heard of Soquilis that attack and kil other creatures, but I don't really want to live in fear. I can defend myself enough to escape one of those if I really have to.' he said, giving a little shrug. He wasn't that nonchalant about going up against either a Kalona or Skinwalker, but it never did to look cowardly in front of a mare!

'Heh,' he chuckled back at Tuli.
'Then I think you've met the wrong stallions. I'd certainly not run away from you.' he nuzzled her this time, pressing his velvety nose to her neck.
'And I am not scared, your father just wants to make sure you are with the right stallion, someone who will treat you well.'

Vatsa nodded;
'Sounds enchanting. And I'll stay with you till morning if you like? We can banish the dark, and then you can show me the waterfall when the sun comes up.'

She nodded, then looked impressed. "You really think you could take one of those monsters?" Her father had made it sound almost impossible to fend them off and get away. Surely, this was a brave soquili!

She completely froze at the thought of having this stallion stay with her until dawn. Should she accept or would it make her look...clingy? desperate? too open? Tuli didn't know what to do. She gave stifled a laugh, trying to hide her uncertainty.

"Are...are you sure you want to stay?" her head tilted just slightly, her ears focused intently waiting for his answer. "We could...we could make our way to the lake, then you could see the waterfall at sunrise." she paused for a moment before continuing. "The water glistens in the days first rays...it's magical."

"Magical? What are you thinking?" She shook her head a bit at her though, she had to get better at talking to males.

'If I had to,' Vatsa replied. He tilted his head, bringing his golden horn into what light the rising moon afforded.
'This is quite sharp, I'm sure I could wound enough to get away at any rate. Or if I had to protect someone dear to me.'

Vatsa smiled, nudging the mare gently, and moving so that he stood with his flank pressed against her wing, his braided tail gently swishing against her own long tail.

'Silly Tuli,' he teased.
'I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it. And if you can find your way in the dark? I'd love to see this..magical..' he whispered the word in an almost intimate manner into the mare's ear.
'Sight.'
He pulled back again, and grinned to himself. It was very nice to be lucky enough to find a mare that didn't mind his overly affectionate manner.

Her eyes glanced up to his glittering horn, it did look awfully sharp. "That's very brave of you...You'd risk your life for someone else." She smiled, Vatsa might not realize what an impression he was making on this young mare. "More soquili should think like that...it seems that most are very..." she paused, trying to think of the proper wording, "Self-serving."

She had only met a hand full of soquili, but the stories her parents, her brothers, and others had told her...there seemed to be many soquili out there that couldn't care less about others.

His..wording, almost caused Tuli to melt right there where she stood. She couldn't believe that this jaw dropping stallion was offering to stay the night with her. She knew that it probably meant nothing, but her heart fluttered as he seemed to tease her.

"I can find my way," she smiled, moving just closer enough to brush against his shoulder as she took a few steps in front of him. It wasn't a show of much affection, but it was a start. Tuli didn't know where to begin, so that...that was a simple gesture. She looked back at him, "You have to remember, this is my home land here."

"It shouldn't take more than an hour or so," she bobbed her head and motioned towards the unseen mountains in the far distance. "It will be nice, walking under the stars with yo...." She caught herself and laughed, again trying to cover her thoughts, not wanting to sound too 'hooked' already. "Under the stars, before bedding down."

'Why would I not?' Vatsa was curious. Were there really that many who didn't give a damn about the safety of others? Of course his touted valour had yet to be tested, but he always hoped he would be brave enough to protect those he loved, and not flee at the first sign of danger!

He smiled back;
'Of course, but even the familiar can be different in the dark. I seem to recall bumping into a tree in my birthplace one night which I could have sworn moved during the night.' he chuckled.

The stallion caught the small backpeddle, it raised an eyebrow. He would have to be careful; he'd not thought of the fact that some might find his affections to be other than they were, he really just liked being tactile. But one day..well, he would just have to try not to hurt her feelings if this was just a one-off chance meeting, not to be repeated.
And if it wasn't, it was interesting to know that she was obviously interested in away.

'Well, lead on Tuli.'

"Some soquili...just wouldn't." she replied in a nonchalant manner.

"This way." she smiled and motioned towards a not so well worn path towards the North. She took a few steps and continued in conversation.

Laughing, she looked back at him, "A tree? How do you not see a tree?" her voice came across in jest, she wasn't meaning to come across as witchy if it appeared that way. "I can't say that I've ever run into a tree...a few limbs, maybe."

Her ears pivoted as an owl sounded off high over head. Kalonas and Skinwalkers weren't known to be in the area, but one could never be too careful. The moon shone over head, beams casting down through the openings in the tree top. The sky clear, it would be a good night for a walk by the water once they arrived.

"So tell me about yourself, Vatsa." Tuli struggled with small talk, she was use to being able to joke and play around with her brothers...Mel at least. Karma was more on the reserved side. She did her best to make conversation interesting.

'It was dark?' Vatsa grinned. He could joke about it now, but at the time it wasn't funny, he'd only been a colt.
'My horn got stuck in a knot on the tree, and I was there until my mother pulled me out.'

Vatsa heard the night bird as well, his head tilting to try and see it. He couldn't though, which was a shame as he'd often heard but never spotted an owl before.

'What did you want to know?'
What could he tell her? He wasn't much different from her really, he had a mother and father, siblings as well.

She laughed softly as the "Awwww" escaped her lips.

"Awww, that's terrible," she smiled, trying to stifle a more hearty laugh. "I hope you werent' stuck long." She pursed her lips together in a sympathetic look.

"Well, I don't suppose I can say much. When my brother and I use to play as foals, I ran right into some low limbs...and that was in the middle of the day. I just knew I was going to be marked for life...stupid tree." she laughed and pranced just a little as she walked along.

"Hmmm," she pondered on his question. "I don't really know. Siblings? Family? Mate?" she casually threw that last option in. What mare wouldn't want to know that informaion?

"I've got," she had to pause for a moment, her parents had just had another batch of children, "I've got 3 brothers and two sisters. I can't say I'm real close to the younger ones yet."

'I remember it felt like ages but it was probably on a couple of minutes.' Vatsa smiled, and nuzzled the top of her head between her ears.

He chuckled;
'Well I don't think I've ever run into a branch during the day!' he teased gently.
'Well I guess I'm like most,' he answered.
'Mother and father. They got together because my father knew a good thing when he found one, and was persistent even though my mother is a very private Soquili, and is very difficult to get to know. I have a brother and a sister, my sister is the only one who got our father's wings.'

He chuckled;
'Mate? Well I'm sure I have a few friends.' he grinned, knowing full well what she meant, but playing a little joke.

"It was very embarassing...Luckily it was with Mel. He's my brother that I can...well...play with. My other brother is a..." she paused trying to think of a good way to describe him, "A stick in the mud..." she laughed. She loved her brothers, but Karma was so distant and reserved most days. She could hardly ever remember him breaking a smile.

"A few friends?" Her eyes widened, not realizing that he meant friends like really friends, she took it as a completely other meaning, like lady friends, until it dawned on her what he really meant. "Oh!" she looked a little embarassed, "Friends....I think I almost mis-understood you." she looked at him trying to make sure that she'd gotten him right.

It wouldn't be long before the scent of the water would float in the night breeze, the waterfall and lake were only yards ahead of them in the darkened surroundings.

"Several of us got our father's wings," she counted to herself, "Actually, we're even. Three of us got them, three of us didn't. I'm the only girl that got them." She beamed. "My younger sister, she's so jealous."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 14, 2008 1:04 pm

'I'm not terribly close with either of my siblings, my brother is okay, I guess I just saw them too much when I was growing up, and prefer the company of others now that I have the choice to talk to non-family members.' he nodded.

'Well, getting my horn stuck in a tree wasn't my best life moment either.' he chuckled slightly.
'Well yes, I can call you a friend yes?' Vatsa nosed her gently.
'But as to the other, no, no mate of that kind.'

He sniffed the night air, they must have been getting close to where they would spend time until dawn.

'They are beautiful wings, I can certainly understand her jealousy. Being able to fly would certainly be an experience I wouldn't mind having, but being on the ground always isn't so bad. I might miss meeting lovely mares if I was always in the air.' he grinned at Tuli.

"Too much?" she laughed, her only friends were her siblings. She couldn't imagine 'too much'. "I guess it could happen...if you didnt' like them -that- much..." she tried to ponder on that a moment. She supposed it would be about how she felt about Karma....she loved him dearly, but they didn't 'click' like she and Mel did.

"And yes, you can call me a friend." she turned and winked at him quickly, "I just wanted to make sure...ya know?"

The trees began to thin out, opening up into the small clearing that housed the lake and waterfall beyond. "Here we are!" she smiled, her voice cheerful. She enjoyed visiting here, though, she had only travelled her alone. This would be the first time she would share it with another soquili...much less a stallion.

Her pace quickened to a trot as she left the treeline and pranced out near the shore of the lake. "Beautiful, isn't it?" The stars and moon offered what light they could, though the darkness still consumed the majority of the scenary. "I promise it was worth the trip." she stopped, turning back to look at Vatsa, her smile widened as the soft moon beams shone down illuminating his coat and reflected gently off of his horn. "I'm dreaming...I have to be!" she thought to herself as she waited on him to catch up.
