Tsurugi lingered behind for just one quick second to drink from the sidewinder. Feeling perfectly refreshed now, he then began to follow Kanki just behind Orient. Which direction was it that lead to the ocean exactly? Tsurugi voiced his question aloud.

Orient turned to look back at Tsurugi and explained softly, "To be exact, the ocean is due east. However, it is easier to simply follow the Sidewinder to Tiptoe Lake to the ocean. This way, we lessen our chances of getting lost." He nodded once and tuned back to face forward.

Kanki turned towards the green male and grinned. "Yeah! It's just safer in the long run to follow the river. So we end up going a little bit slowly - oh well!" The powder blue Dragonfly shrugged good-naturedly and began to hum a little while walking.

"Ah, I see. Well then, at least we will have no worry for how we will obtain fresh water on our journey!" Tsurugi had been, up to that point, wondering how they would be getting clean water, and since he knew specifically that the ocean's water was unfit to drink because of the salt content, he was worried that they would have soon lost a way to quench their thirst whilst hiking. "Oh, by the way, I hope you don't mind if I don't partake in your dinning rituals. I have a strict no-meat diet."

Kanki nodded energetically. "Yeah! We won't get lost and we have access to water!" He smiled and continued to walk, nearly grinning at the river beside them.

"Yes, but shortly, the Sidewinder becomes very dangerous," Orient murmured. "The water becomes very fast and deep. Many a Dragonfly have lost their lives in the Sidewinder."

At the news that their companion wouldn't eat meat, Kanki sighed and nodded. "Yeah, I get where you're coming from. Don't worry - we understand." The powder blue Dragonfly seemed thoughtful for a moment before adding, "Besides, I don't even hunt. I make Orient do all of it." He grinned foolishly at said Dragonfly, who scowled at him playfully.

"Ah, so you make Orient do all the dirty work for you, eh?" Tsurugi chuckled lightly, filling the air with his meldious mirth. After a second, though, he bacame a shade more serious. "Yes, during the time I've spent wandering the forest of Di'Jai, I've become closely in touch with the living beings around me. I can no longer eat meat, because it seems like canibalism to me now. I could as easily eat my own paw than another creature." Tsurugi paused, then continued. "But, please, don't let my decision hinder your eating. I do not expect others to bend to my lifestyle just because I'm present."

Kanki nodded thoughtfully. "Ah, I see. I don't like to hunt because the killing makes me sad. Before I met Orient, I would always cry for whatever creature I had to kill in order to eat." He smiled at Orient and mouthed the words, 'My Hero' at him.

Orient rolled his eyes and added, "When I hunt, I try to honor the spirit of the creature I have slain."

"That's interesting. It seems we all have ways of dealing with death. Well, it's nice to know I'm traveling with kind Dragonflies who care about the souls they set free from this mortal world of ours." Tsurugi reclined at his odd moment of vulnerability. He hadn't meant to say so much of how he fealt. To avoid more of the current conversation, he skipped a rock across the river beside him.

Kanki watched with wide eyes as the rock skipped across the water, having stopped dead in his tracks to see. Once the rock had sunk, he grinned widely and continued walking.

"I've never been able to skip rocks," he said cheerfully. "I've heard that it's all in the wrist, but I only manage to sink them as soon as I let 'em go."

Orient nodded and added, "I've not had much luck with skipping stones either."

(Hope you don't mind if I skip through time a bit)
The pattern of the twinkling stars reflected off the river in a way that mezmorized Tsurugi. He and his traveling partners, Kanki and Orient, had been hiking all that day, and had just setteled down to camp for the night. Looking up, Tsurugi gazed at the web of stars layed out before him, and wondered what kind of being could have created such a piece of art.
