I would agree that Memoirs of a Geisha was pretty close to the book except certain parts in it but the storyline was kept well intact. It is the only book turned movie that I have seen and liked.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what are people's expectations for the movie based on Twilight?

First I will say that I have not read any of those books as of yet, and am undecided as to if I will ever do so.
I recently saw a preview/during filming thing for the movie, and my impression from that was "Um... this looks generic."
Since I haven't even cracked the cover of the book I can't say if it looked true to the book, but I have a feeling that any originality in the book is going to be mostly lost in the movie.
That is what I thought anyway neutral

Yeah, I don't really want to read them either.
I've got high hopes for The City of Ember, though.

I'm halfway through reading Wicked. Was that ever a movie, or just a play?

I remember reading The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe right before the movie came into theatre's, and I remember how pleased I was with how close the movie followed the book. So I'd have to say that that's the best adaption I've seen so far.

Anime lover I remember reading The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe right before the movie came into theatre's, and I remember how pleased I was with how close the movie followed the book. So I'd have to say that that's the best adaption I've seen so far. Yes, that was nicely done. Have you seen Prince Caspian yet?

I love the movie adaptations based upon Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series better than the books. I'd much rather watch the movies than read the books, but I'm not really one for greatly detailed battles and the likes.

I really like The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The book was amazingly hilarious, and the movie was pretty amazing too, although not as good as the book.

Did anyone else know that Hotel for Dogs was based on a book? Now I"m going to have to track it down and read it. Not as easy as it sounds, since it was written in the 70s, and my library doesn't own it.

Harry Potter is the best book-based movie of all time in my opinion. They are so similar I rarely notice changes. heart

Well Watchmen is (obviously) out of litigation now. I haven't gotten out to see the movie yet, but the commericals and such that I've seen suggest that at least the costuming is very close to the original graphic material. Can anyone comment on how well the text was followed?

Watership Down will always be my favorite. In fact, I think I like the film a little bit more than the book.
