Ulric scoffed, "Like hell. I'm not leaving you out here in the rain. Come on kiddo." He scooped up the younger foxtaur, his balance wobbling slightly. "Just make sure that basket of yours stays in your hands and we're good." Ulric cursed himself in his head. Oh yes, lets show off and act macho. Not like we have a gushing leg wound or anything. While we're at it, lets juggle fire.

The spotted foxtaur splayed his legs on either side of Ulric's fox half as he mounted him, completely content with taking advantage of the wounded man. He balanced the basket between him and his pack, frowning still as the rain started to pour. " You'll never be able to support me, you know. You keep calling me a kid but I'm a full grown adult and your'e worse for wear, my friend. You'll only be aiding your injuries if you do this. "
Of course, if Ulric dropped of exhaustion or that bum leg of his gave out, Rees would be more than happy to stay put on the road. He was hoping it'd happen rather soon, though, because the rain was starting to make his hair stick to his face in a rather annoying way.

Ulric shrugged. "I've been in worse situations. Just shut up and enjoy the ride." He hugged himself tighter, his leg cramping angrily. Just to keep up conversation, and to keep his mind off the pain, Ulric decided to act as if the situation was just a casual day. " How old are you anyway kid?"

Rees pulled an apple out of his basket and started munching on it, doing just what Ulric told him to do. Even thought morals would say this was taking advantage of him, the foxtaur didn't see anything wrong with it. He snagged a bit bit out of the slick, red apple before speaking. " I can't give you an exact answer on that but I can tell you that I'm old enough not to remember most of my childhood and a bit of my early teens. "
Rees sucked at the juices flowing down his hands, trying to duck his head as much as possible from the oncoming onslaught of rain. " Since we're on the topic, how old are you? "

"Old enough to stay in a tavern. That's all that you need to know." Ulric's face twisted, hoping the apple juices wouldn't drip into his fur. He counted back his birthdays, trying to remember how old he was. "Twenty-two. I think." He mumbled under his breath, still unsure how old exactly he was, but that number sounded good to him. "The inn should be up around the bend."

" Theres an age where you're old enough to go in a tavern? " Rees was stunned. He'd always just gone in when he was cold or wanted a good pint of mead. Who knew you actually had to be a certain age in order to do such a thing? And what kind of establishments had he been in that would take payment from a minor?
The rain came down in sheets, making the already torn up path turn into sloshy mud. Rees was quite content with his ride at this point. He wasn't the one getting dirty. Putting his hands up in crescent shapes around his eyes, he tried to look up ahead and find the inn.

"No set age. Just a way to tell you my age without giving it away." Ulric's limbs were numbing, the inn just a head. "Thank goodness."

Rees saw a gathering of cervitaurs heading into the inn, no doubt to escape the rain and find some food to warm up their bones. If it was a choice between giving two foxtaurs a room or some local chaps, he was sure that they'd be screwed in that aspect. As soon as he saw a dryer patch to put his feet, he gently hopped off Ulric's back and walked beside him.
What a quaint little establishment, he thought. Surely they'd take pity on an injured man.

"Alright you manegy barn animals clear out!" Ulric burst through the inn doors, gaining a few glares at his announcement but they didn't bother him a bit. He puffed his chest out and walked determindly to the bar, barely a limp in his leg. "You really should stop putting you foot in your mouth Ulric, or one of my guys will but theirs up your a**." Ulric chuckled full-heartedly, slapping the tavern owner on the back. "Good to see you too Bruce."

Rees didn't like taverns. He was under the impression that they would be in an inn tonight, not a tavern with a couple rooms for the fools too drunk to make it home. Mead turned good men bad and bad men into demons. He looked around disgustedly, resisting the urge to hold his hand up to his nose to close off the smell. Sweaty cervitaurs and alcohol didn't exactly bring out the warm fuzzies in him.
If he'd been alone, he would have left but in this case, he had a brash foxtaur to look after. Placing his hand gently on Ulric's shoulder, Rees spoke in a whisper. " Ulric, I implore you to be wise on this night. Let us leave and find shelter else where. I'm sure theres other...establishments furter down the road. "

Ulric leaned over his shoulder to Rees. "I dont have...sufficient funds for a stay at your plushie inn. My buddy Bruce will let us stay for a night, no charge." He gave a wink, pattin the empty coin purse at his side. Taverns may not be the best places in the world, but they were cheap, and Ulric loved cheap.

Rees shook his head back and forth, a little sigh escaping him. Inns did cost a bit more but at least it was in good taste and you wouldn't be disturbed in the middle of the night by drunkards who couldn't find their own room. Though, if he'd had money of his own, he would have left already but seeing as he didn't, he stayed placently by Ulric's side.
The grimy floor made his paws feel grimy and disgusting. The longer furs around his claws scrapped at what he hoped was just mud before he walked away from his foxy companion to the doorway, where he sat down on a mat and watched the rain come down in sheets. He pulled a grape bushel from his basket and started eating his supper.

"The regular room?" "Yeah." "I don't see any...interesting company." "Nope. Just traveling today. No fun for a working man." Ulric winked at Bruce, plucking the key fromt the counter. "Alright kid, time to get cozy!" He wiggled the key infront of his face, pointing his thumb towards the back of the tavern. Another free stay at a very snazy place.

This...this was why he struck out on his own. People rarely listened to the opinion of a traitors son in a group and as soon as said son found peace among those who didn't listen to him because of prejudice, he finds more of his own who treat him the same. Do this, they say. Do that.
Rees leveled his unemotional stare at Ulric before taking a large bite of his apple. He sloshed it around in his mouth, juices running down the sides of his hands and mouth as he blatantly ignored his foxy companion.

Ulric's face contourted in confusion. "Hey Kid, you don't have to get moody. Tavern may not be the nicest place to sleep but at least it's better than sleeping outside." He stode in the silent noise for a few moments, meeriment all around his gloomy guest. He quickly scowled, stomping off to the room. Stuck up brat.
