It's funny, but it's also got a lot of philosophy/social commentary. In my opinion, it is the movie that best captures what it's like to be Gen X.

Absolutely fantastic movie. I watched it first when I was about 14 just as it was coming onto TV for the first time. It was amazing.
One of those movies you should watch first whilst a little younger so you can come back to it when you're older and appreciate even more.
Like Forrest Gump. : D
I only read the book a couple of months ago, but I recommend anyone who has watched the movie to read the book. In that order. Honestly, if you read the book first it will likely be a little ruined by the movie because of some fairly big plot and character differences. But reading it after is all good.
