Normally, I listen to the song while paying attention to the guitar. I try to exclude the vocals from the song so I can focus on the guitar's part. Or if there's an instrumental version, I also listen to it.
If I get the listening down, I search for tabs around the web. Then I practice until I can playing without looking at the tab/chords/sheet music.

I try to learn it by ear first, and if I can't then I'll look up the tabs

Powertab is a program that let's you listen to what your playing. It's like tabs that you can listen to.

i do both . Ears and tabs , sometimes reading sheet music .

I eathier play it by ear.. or watch someone play it and try to follow...Or look for tuts online biggrin

I get "tablitcher" from Ultimate-Guitar.com and run it through guitar pro 5.
If that isnt enough, I log onto youtube and watch a cover vid someone made of the song.
Then it's all smoooth sailing from there O:

I know I am saying what everyone else is saying, but I use TABs. If I had a tuner to tune my guitar correctly (I am still learning and thus do not know how to tune on my own) I would attempt -and fail- at playing a song by ear.

darkblood55 How does everybody learn songs on the guitar are u like me were i try to listen to them and learn it like that or do u watch sombody else play it do u read a music sheet do u read tablitcher? i just make up my own songs...i suck at reading music razz

Online tabs and sheet music (mostly the tabs), I just know the basics of sheet music.

Power Tab. My friend fights with me all the time about using tabs. I don't know where the notes are on the guitar and he doesn't understand that. Wants me to read music, but I don't have the ability to.
