Xundao let himself slip just a tiny bit behind Thibiti. He'd admit that he was nervous about the creature, since he had never actually seen one before. Unknown things intimidated Xundao, even if he was a fan of learning. But if it moved on it's own? Then maybe it wouldn't be nice, and that was what he was frightened of.
"M-maybe we should....catch it first. Who knows what the mini-lion might do if it catches us first! It's probably got claws...and teeth...and...and..." Yes, XUndao was getting himself all nervous now, for no real reason. If he had just walked up to the creature he wouldn't be scared, but sometimes things were a little too easy for the young white male. He couldn't think everything out.
He slinked forward, his belly nearly on the ground, towards the creature. Maybe he could just get a little closer...

"Right, we should definitely catch it first." He didn't want either of them getting hurt trying to grab this mini lion, especially if it had sharp teeth and claws. Their father wouldn't be very pleased with that, and somebody would tattle on them about their adventure. Mud was one thing. Injuries were totally different.
As Xundao slunk forward the aardvark gave a large sniff, suddenly aware that he had company. He raised his head a little, and stared at the young lions.
Thibiti stared back. Then, he whispered to his brother, "On the count of three... we run. One... two... three!" He leapt to his feet and spun around, starting his run back in the direction they came. There was no way he was going to take on a mini-lion once it saw them! They had lost the element of surprise, which meant they would have to flee. For now, he added in his head, as though that somehow made him sound more brave than he was. The youth slowed a little to glance over his shoulder, looking to make sure his brother was coming too. He couldn't leave Xundao behind to face the mini lion alone!

For a moment, Xundao didn't realize what had gone on. He paused, looking at the mini-lion, then looking at his brother who hwas running away. They were...running away? He didn't quite understand why, honestly. But he believed in his brother's instincts, and so he turned to follow.
The mud, which has slowly began to dry on his paws and belly, slowed him down. It took a lot of work to get his paws to work correctly, but he soon followed after his brother. He stumbled a time or two, not used to the sudden urge to run, but he managed well enough, following after his brother.
Exhausted, he gasped out to Thibiti. "Why're we running? I thought we were gunna get it." He obviously hadn't realized that the Aardvark had noticed them, too intent on staring at it's odd feet.

Thibiti frowned a little at his brother, as he paused to catch his breath. "It looked at us, that's why! We could have been eaten!" Hadn't Xundao noticed that they'd been seen? Probably not. He had probably been distracted by the blowing of the flowers. Though, come to think of it, that seemed like a much safer way to pass their time. Maybe Xundao had been on to something this morning.
The young lion glanced behind him to make sure that the mini-lion wasn't stalking them, before giving his feet a good shake. The mud was really starting to cake on now. He hoped he would be able to get it off before they went home. "Well, now that we're safe, you wanna go clean off a bit? Then we can come back and uh... watch the flowers. If you want." Would Xundao want to come back and watch the flowers after their exciting adventure? He would have wait and see.

"Oh..." Well, that would explain it. Xundao himself had got himself into a little fit over the idea of scary claws and teeth, so it only made sense to him that they would run away if the mini-lion had seen them. He sure didn't want to get in trouble for getting beaten up by some...some thing!
He shook himself, as if he wanted to get rid of all the events that had just happened. He bobbed his head at his brother, his rosey eyes lloking out towards where the lake would be. Hopefully they could sneak out that way and get all clean before anyone spotted them! Or, at least Father.
"Sounds like a good idea," he said with a snort. He trotted forward before pausing to look at his brother again. "And maybe we should avoid flowers for the rest of the day. I don't wanna get muddy again. 'Cause then you know Father will find us!" He laughed, motioning his head before bounding towards the water.

Oh. Right. He had forgotten that the flower bed was the cause of the majority of his muck. Thibiti gave his brother a sheepish grin, before trotting eagerly after him. "We better be quick before anybody spots us! I don't wanna get tattled on!" It was so much harder to avoid looking dirty when you had white fur. At least Xundao could sympathize with him on that one. Still grinning, Thibiti picked up his pace and headed towards the lake with his brother. They would be in and out before anybody noticed them.
Thibiti gave a small sigh, feeling overall quite pleased with himself. What a day it had been! He would have to make sure to tell his sisters this story when they got back. Thibiti would probably edit a few details, like how they were chased back and narrowly escaped, but the gist of it would be the same. Perhaps he should start spending more time with his brother. Xundao seemed to make very exciting things happen!
