for the record I believe in both creation and eveloution. I am a buddhist, but I also believe in "intelligent design" If anyone wants to know what that is let me know.

maybe you should explain what you believe in? and intelligent design, because most schools, I think, are banned from teaching one way or the other.

Ok.... well I started typing a response to this... but it got WAY too long and detailed and got off subject quite a lot.. so here's the simple version smile
I don't believe in this "Almighty God" that created heaven and blah blah blah... I have found myself praying to whatever is out there when I'm in certain situations, but I think most people do. I am a Wiccan and have been for about half a year-ish, it's the closest thing that I have found to a "religion" to follow.
As for evolution... I have my own crazy ideas that drive me insane on nights when I can't sleep, but you can ask me if you want to know in detail. But, overall I think everyone has their own evolution or creation theory and shouldn't be TOLD what to think unless they have 100% proof of it which no one has right now.
*And if you want to know my long detailed version that I decided not to post... um ask and I'll either post it here or pm it to you* biggrin

There were a few curses in the beggining of the thread. They were not directed at any particular person, so they are quite fine, I just wish to bring up that there was a rule about "Please don't swear." That is all ^^ I do not mean to be rude or pointing out many flaws. I am just slightly confused about the borderlines. For example: It is okay if it is not directed at anyone. I believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I believe the theory of evolution has some serious flaws as far as its beginning. The laws of science clearly state that one cannot get something from nothing, but evolution suggests that Earth was a giant hunk of rock at one point. And then life comes in. But where did the life come from? If everything is rock and lava and there is no bacteria or life, life cannot simply appear out of the air, which also did not yet exist. Also, in order for the big bang to be sufficient, there would have to be an exactly correct number of positive and negative ions in the blast. If there was one more positive, the blast would have been incredible and would have scattered like a blotch, creating an infinite number of rocks the size of dust and no life could have ever formed. If there was one more negative ion, then the blast would have done very little and no life could have formed. If there was the exact number of positive and negative ions, then they would have cancelled each other out and there would have been no Big Bang. However, there was the exact correct number of positive and negative ions to create the universe as is (if the theory is true). There were billion, trillions, or even quadrillions of each, but there was, ever so conveniently, one more positive than negative. The chances of such are far more astronomical than walking down the street, waving to a SCUBA diver passing you, then having a winning lottery ticket fly into your hand. From those facts, that is what I believe ^^ I have seen so many old say this same statement, "In all of my years, I have never seen the faithful forsaken." Sometimes God answers your prayers when you do not realize it. I have heard so many stories and witnessed so much, there is not one doubt in my mind that God hears, and he is up there listening. A few other cute little facts to point out! ^^ Many foods look like the body part they are good for: If you cut a carrot in half and look at its center, it looks remarkably like an eye! Here's the kicker, they're good for your eyes =D My favorite: Eggplants (I think) Are shaped like a womb, which they are good for, and they take nine months to grow! =D There are a whole lot more at this websight I just found; it really is a fascinating and engaging subject! http://hubpages.com/hub/Eat-up I find this is not explained in a secular sense. Food is not equipped with a brain. Scientists, some time in the seventies I think, told folks that everyone should have sex before marriage to see if they are sexually compatable and it will strengthen their marriage. It did not work. Divource rates went way up because the theory backfired and it actually caused a lot more people to divource. I find secular sense does not explain this subject either. Clearly, the theory does not work, but why not? It makes perfect sense, but it seems sex outside of marriage (outside of God's intended purpose) is a no go. There are a few more facts, but I do not want to post them, for I fear that will make this too long, which is probably already is. I type far too much =D If you have read this, thank you so much!

okay, I read both of your replies. Thank you for taking the time to actually say SOMETHING.
@Only Christ I Follow..... Have you ever thought about deism? Or even heard of it? I think you might find it to your liking. Deists believe that there is a god, of course, and that he set the natural laws in motion but does not interfere and just observes. If a person thinks of the universe this way, it reconciles religion and science in a rather simple way. For example, regarding your proton/electron thing: a god could be the one that made it so that there were exactly the right number of each to allow the Big Bang to occur successfully.
@Prince.... I think you should post your long version biggrin I agree with you on the "everyone having his own beliefs" thing; I don't believe that every person who practices the same religion feels the same way about it or about any other idea they come into contact with, namely creation/evolution. There is no way to prove anything so a person's individual experiences will be the biggest factors in shaping what they believe.

No, I have not heard of that, but it does sound interesting. However, I have witnessed God's work in my life, so, for me to say that he is not active is like one to walk up to a friend who saved them from commiting suiside and state, "Okay, I have changed my mind and I decided that you have not done anything in my life; you have only watched from the sidelines." I used the Big Bang theory as a way to state that God could have made it happen; I did not entirely dismiss it.
Thank you for reading my post! I have always been under the impression that only those who agree with me will listen to me, and if someone who does not agree listens, they will yell at me and tell me I am wrong because that is what has happened in my life up to this point. I am ecstatic that, for the first time, I can discover people other than Christians who can debate and relate their ideas and thoughts without getting into a screaming fest. So thank you all muchly; everyone in this guild has been so nice so far. You guys rawk!

Okay lol I am glad you have found people who don't yell at you because they disagree. I think I have found out by now that I am atheist, or at least I have a very hard time believing that there is a god. But I will still read whatever you wrote. It doesn't matter that you have different beliefs.

About a month late, but whatever! xD I believe in both creation and evolution, as well. I think that God made everything and allowed for all of it to adapt to its surroundings and circumstances. I've been in a Catholic school my entire life, and i've been made to memorize the tenements of said religion for as long as i can remember. But i've gone through periods where i've denounced God. In 5th grade i was Satanic, which was fun for a while, but then i got bored. :/ Embraced Buddhism. Pagan for a while. And I've studied several other religions (Wicca has always been alluring). But, like an abused wife, I kept going back to Catholicism. I in my quest for knowledge have decided that it just....fits somehow. To be able to just believe something--automatically, so unlike a child that always demands "why?"--is just so calming. sorry i cannot explain. haha i've been rendered inarticulate once again. Shame. I feel the same way when i pray, but i keep at it, undaunted. and i'm always shocked when my prayers get answered. (cause they do. i mean, this paranoid schizo lives!) I ain't preaching at anyone--i'm just telling of my experiences.

I think you have discovered the best way to phrase the thoughts of everyone who has posted. Most people here believe in god(I'm assuming), but don't want to relinquish the idea of adaptation based on the need to survive and your thought summarizes this idea.

Idiosyncratic Solar
i believe in God. sure, maybe it seems liek he never answers our prayers sometimes, but what do you expect? Jesus to come down himself and solve all your problems? never heard the phrase 'God has his way of solving problems'? and He does. maybe it won't seem obvious at first, or at all, but everything that happens has a reason.
but anyway, i'm not here to preach to anyone.
i'm really here to tell you that i'm not sure what happened. and i'm guessing none of you are, either. but i'm not sure. sometimes i think that God made the 'big bang' happen and he created the lightening bolt that sparked the first forerunners of whatever it took to make our bodies work. but i also believe he created adam and eve. i don't know, and i prolly never will unless God tells me when i die or whatever, but it doesn't really matter that much to me..
sometimes i go to post in these things and i realize i already have. i guess i believe in either way. i mean, i'm not very smart, so my opinion doesn't even really matter that much...* Only Christ I Follow I believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I believe the theory of evolution has some serious flaws as far as its beginning. But where did the life come from? If everything is rock and lava and there is no bacteria or life, life cannot simply appear out of the air, which also did not yet exist. although i'm on the fence about the whole thing, this is what i always wondered anyway.
*btw, i read everything you wrote in that one post about the carrots, follower. [:

wait, don't say you're not very smart; and your opinion counts just as much as anyone else's opinion. we won't judge you. just say what you want to say; why are you indecisive?

well, i believe in God, and it's said that He created man, and what-not. but evolution makes sense. aside from how were humans first created into a unicellular organisms from nothing?, evolution is almost evident. over the years, humans have adapted to life more and more. when the neandrathals existed, they were a lot more hairier than we are nowadays. with all this technology, we've evolved with it. maybe one day, we'll all be hairless. o.o

Now that I'm sorta caught up on this debate, I'm going to actually reply to things that you all were talking about back in the spring.
I believe we exist because we evolved because we were engineered to evolve, and were assisting in evolving. If that makes sense.
I believe that my Lord and Lady created everything from themselves- from their spirit, essence, from their magic. There is this magical spirit withing every natural thing in the world, and in things made from those natural things. But now I'm getting ahead of myself a little bit, because I haven't even gotten to the point where we got here.
I'm not sure I believe in the big bang theory exactly, but if one was to say that it did happen fer sure [and somehow had evidence to back it up] I would agree that the Lord and Lady, being equal to each other but opposite [yin and yang?], basically were the negitave and positive forces, putting themselves into them and spreading through the universe that they created in vast empty space. Being that they are 'yin and yang', and equal in power, that would mean that there could be no result but the same amount of negative vs positive charge. Writing this is making me believe it more, that that could be the answer.
Although I'm not sure how life was created, even in the form of bacteria, but I know because of the elements combined, given to us by the God and Goddess, there was the posibility of life. I'm going to repeat- they supplied the needed factors for life to be created. They didn't make life, but they did make it possible, or more like probable. As things grew, they gave the gift of mutations and allowed enviornments to change. They didn't actually do these things themselves, but they made it possible.
I'm going to compare this to playing sims. Now, you can take away their free will, provide things for your sims to do, make them do them, and even delete your sims if you don't want them anymore. Or you could provide the propper tools for them, give them free will, and let them figure it out and learn on their own. One sim may choose to watch tv while the other will read about cooking. The TV watcher will get hungry, try to cook, then die in the fire, while the cook book reader sim will get hungry, cook correctly, and survive. It's all up to them. I believe int the second explination, as it relates to the world, except the kid playing the game would actually be my Lord and Lady.
I guess it's like the deism taht Eleiza explained, however, I'm going to put a twist in that. I believe that the Gods and Goddesses do interfere, because I believe we all have some sort of destiny. Now, it may just be that one is destined to be friends with someone, have a particular dog for a pet, or live near moutnains, but in the grand shceme, all of those things are a big deal. They could shape our lives because of how they play out with the destiny of others around and before us. Also, I know we can contact the Lord and Lady, we can ask for help from them, and they will respond on how they see fit. We are their children, and parents do not always set boundries that children agree with or understand. It is even more true with the Gods. Also, as I said earlier, they are part of us. Their magic is within us and we have it for a reason- so we can use it. we can use it for good to help the world further evolve, if the magic will work that way.
Class is just about over, and I should stop typing now anywayas.
