Nagi just stared with an eyebrow raised as his student unsheathed her sword. He trusted the fact that she wasn't about to chop his arm off with the blade and stood still as she worked her magic. The moment the chilly fabric settled onto his skin, he felt a prickling sensation move down his spine and into his limbs, making every hair stand on end. Most would have been uncomfortable with this feeling but Nagi found it quite pleasant and instantly relaxed. It was a known fact that Nagi was most adequate in cold environments. The way his office and room felt was proof of that.

Though he did not look it, Nagi was very astonished by what just happened. What surprised him the most was that he had no idea that Suri possessed a zanpaku-to with an ice element. Then again, he had never seen her wield it before but it was still unexpected. The fact that she only managed to freeze his clothes and not his skin just flat out amused him. That was some skill in his opinion.

"Thank you." He smiled, trying his best not to look embarrassed that his condition was so easily discovered. As he walked, he felt as if his clothes had been starched but they weren't too stiff thankfully. His vision was also starting to return back to normal thankfully. For a while, it was making him dizzy. "I should be fine until we get back... Your zanpaku-to is beautiful by the way. I didn't think you were an ice user."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 25, 2008 4:40 pm

:"Thank you," Suri nodded imperceptibly. "I find the ice-type to be quite suitable to myself and...my past. It is beautiful, but void of emotion, unlike fire and earth. It also lacks the humor of wind."

Her admittance tapered off in silence as Suri played with a flower petal in her fingers. It was from the rose that she had incinerated earlier. She slightly bit the inside of her lower lip, fidgeting, but she continued to talk straight and elegant, like usual, her brow still smooth and not furrowed in concentration. She was walking slowly so that Captain Nagi would not get exhausted, but she also needed to regenerate some reiatsu since the kidou that she had just performed at been in her upper ranges.

"Well," Suri started again, after a long pause. "The frost should melt in the sun, and with that heat it won't leave your clothes damp either, although you might need to iron them out later.":

((I admit, I'm a Hitsugaya fan girl blaugh ))

((I have a real replica of his sword. XD))
Slightly awed by her use of words, Nagi was glad that she was opening up to him more and more. So far, she had been in the division the longest yet for the longest time knew the least about her. To him, Suri seemed to be the philosophical, noble and quiet type. Though this may have been indeed true, Nagi always felt that things happened for a reason. There was a back-story in this woman somewhere. He knew this because the moment she began to speak more, that feeling in his chest began to accelerate just as it always did when others spoke of memories.

"I'm not too worried about wrinkles. I think I need to change this uniform anyway... It probably smells like the forest." Nagi grinned as they exited the forest and into the light where his glasses began to gradually tint themselves to a darker shade so he could see better. The sun was now beating on him again but luckily, the frost on his body was not yet depleted. Surely this would suffice until he made it to his sacred water bottles. "I'm sure this walk has given us plenty of time to regain our spirit energy. I think you'll be more than ready to continue onto the next kido when we make it back. Then again, if you wish to have another go at 'hide-and-seek' again I won't object either."

((Sorry I puppet-mastered with this one by stating "they". I hope you didn't mind that. I also found that new kido and added it to the library.))
PostPosted: Mon Aug 25, 2008 6:55 pm

:Suri inhaled deeply, slowly, taking in the scent of the trees and the grass of the open field. Personally, she found nothing wrong with smelling like a forest, as long as one did not smell like the humus and decomposers. She enjoyed the scent of grass, flowers, trees, and moist earth, though she was not compatible enough with them that she could tolerate living as a reclusive hermit.

"I think I shall want to attempt a different kidou," Suri said after some thought. "Training for tracking kidous are best when they are surprises. Perhaps you could test me on that kidou when I least expect it? It's far easier when one knows what one is looking for. Maybe we can attempt a hado? Or the new bakudo. I enjoy exploring and trying out new things that few people would expect. And if it is not rude to ask, in what kido level ranges would you classify White Crawl, Mirror Door, and Reverse Demon?"

Shading her eyes with her hand, Suri glanced about the open field and spotted the slight mounds of disturbed dirt where she had trod. Also, there was a slight scent of burnt plants there. Though never the best at tracking, Suri knew enough about detecting the small things so that she would not get lost. However, finding a thing or person that was lost was a whole different task to her. Since she could never remember a person's quirks or personalities, it was hard for her to identify clues which a person might leave in their wake, hence her request to learn the tracking kidou.:

(( o.O That is way cool. But I'm not big on owning pointy things myself XD. Knives and blenders = worst kitchen tools ever invented. Now the spatula or the whisk...their names sound pretty cool too ))

((Whaat? *bluntly stabs someone with a whisk* Oh yeah... that can do some damage I suppose. 0_o' I don't mind sharp objects as long as they are well kept and away from eff-tards who like swinging them around. The last thing to cut me was my clumsy left hand and that will hopefully be the last. XD))

To Nagi, this area was not very large so it was not difficult to navigate as long as he could see his previous route. It was hard for him not to forget exactly where they were but as long as he could see the path before him, he was confident that his sight would not get them lost- as if his eyes had their own memory. As he listened to Suri's voice and the sound of the cool breeze, noticing that both of them had their own chill to it, he continued to notice that there were slight differences in the scenery around them as they continued on. Surely she must of marked her path as to not get lost. It was better than Nagi's zig-zagging one of course. Though he did not keep on it with his feet, his gaze followed the trail, making his eyes move around more than they should have.

"That's not a problem." he nodded, his crystal blue eyes continuing to dart about under his shaded specs. They seemed to also have a mind of their own at that point since they didn't want to stop even though his brain told them too. "Though even I don't know much about the newly discovered kido as of yet, I see nothing wrong with the two of us learning it together. I just have to find the books first..."

He then paused for a moment, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes to clear his mind. His feet had also stopped moving as he stood there, anticipating what he was about to say. The path was no longer important at that moment. He couldn't hold it in much longer. Ever since this woman joined his division, all he could do was add up good information about her. Though he was a captain for quite a long time now, he was never one for planned words. Even if the sentences were buzzing through his mind in perfect and complete order, they did not want to come out that way. It wasn't like it was that huge a deal to some but to Nagi, this was almost terrifying simply because he had never been in this kind of situation before. To him, any moment like this was a first since he did not remember any times before that.

Despite his rushing mind, he kept a calm demeanor as he finally took his eyes off the trail and onto his student. He suddenly began to feel a lot more confident as his laid-back nature kicked in and that other voice in his head reassured him. This is not a problem... There's nothing to worry about. In a very calm voice he stated: "The question about your level range is very easy to answer, considering you will no longer have any limits to what you can learn."

(( Noooooooo crying Whisks aren't supposed to stab people... They're supposed to look cool and sound cool.))

:Surprised, Suri stopped suddenly, her foot coming down heavily into the grass, bending the short stalks a bit more than she usually enjoyed doing. It was characteristic of her to care about non-human objects more, such as nature or animals, but what Captain Nagi had said shocked her a bit. She had not expected such a statement any time soon.

"Thank you," Suri said after a minute. The short statement did not seem to belong, but it was a sign that she interpreted what Captain Nagi had said as a compliment, or something similar. "I did not think myself prepared, but I suppose you know best Captain. May I ask how you came to this decision? And what of the guild rules?"

She knew the question was a bit rude, if not vain, but she was curious as to how Captain Nagi determined her qualification. There had been very few times in the past when she had ever demonstrated her skills and abilities in combat before. Inwardly, her mind was running over the possibilities of what she wanted to learn, although she was almost certain that without any limits, at least two kidos were still out-of-bounds. She did revel in the thought of trying the new kido though, knowing that if she used it in a battle anytime in the near future it was sure to catch her opponent off guard successfully. Before she let her imagination run away, Suri forced her attention back to the moment so she would not miss Captain Nagi's response.:

Nagi slightly raised an eyebrow as Suri stated her concerns. It was apparent that she didn't fully understand the meaning to his remark so he wasn't going to have a problem with explaining further. Indeed it was a compliment of sorts but was also a fact. At first, he was nervous about this and her reaction to it but he was confident in his words, now that he knew just what to say. With that, Nagi reached into his white hooded haori into the pocket where he usually kept all his smaller tools and utilities.

"Though you and I are not much in common, I believe that two halves always make a whole while the few similarities we have hold that bond together. It is with that understanding that I think we'd make a great team. Though I have yet to see you battle, I know for a fact that you are a very clear minded and skilled person and that is all that matters. Your patience and loyalty also goes without saying. My faith and trust in you has no limits." he explained while pulling out the fifth division crest that he had once worn around his left arm before Kiro long ago. A grin spread across his face as he presented it to her. "I would be honored for you to be my lieutenant."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:38 pm

:Unable to respond, Suri stood in shock. Her fingers rested on the pendent and chain on the end of her hilt, frozen motionless. Stiffly, her right arm hung at her side. She wasn't sure how to respond, and her face blanked for a moment as she stared at the crest Captain Nagi held in his hands. In her mind, all her thoughts seemed to have slowed down and sped up at the same time.

Once it all clicked together though, Suri felt heat rising in her cheeks, and she swiftly got down on one knee, a bit too formally for some. Her braid swung over her shoulder to hide her blush and her bangs hooded her eyes slightly, although there was a flickering in the gray irises that could be seen in the sunlight.

"Thank you Captain," Suri said, speaking slightly rapidly. "And it would be my honor to accept the position as your lieutenant. I hope I serve you well in the position."

She stood off, brushing the grass off of her knees before she looked Captain Nagi in the eyes, a smile spreading across her face with a look of genuine happy embarrassment.

Her next few statements were on a lighter note, "And I believe you judged the fight I had with Tansen when Kiro hosted the tournament in BSS. On top of that, the few similarites we have, you wouldn't be talking about how we get easily flustered by outrageous things are you?" The last statement brought a mischievious twinkle to her eyes and a sly grin tugging at her lips.:

(( eek crying sweatdrop lol 4laugh I think that just made my day XD ahaha ))

((Glad to hear it. ^^))

Nagi laughed at that last statement even though his usually pale cheeks were flushed at the fact that she was blushing. Seeing a woman blush always did this to him. Even though he was around them more often, he had this feeling he'd never get used to it. He was suddenly startled at the fact that she had dropped down on her knee and at first thought that she was going to pass out or something. It wasn't until she spoke that he realized what she was doing and was almost touched by it. Suri had always been the noble type of woman who portrayed an etiquette unlike any other. It made him wonder just what era Suri had derived from. Luckily, his darker half was not interested in snooping around with her memories.

"Flustered is an understatement sometimes." He sighed, thinking of all those times he really wanted to forget his laid back nature and just fire a kido down somebody's throat. He let out a breath that sounded more like a laugh the more he thought about it.

"You'll have to deal with that soon enough... I won't get into that now though. We have a new kido to learn." he grinned as he glanced forward, noticing that they were very close to their starting point. The moment they got back, he'd hit up the reference book he carried in his field bag, just in case this new kido was within the pages.

:Humming quietly to herself, Suri settled down into the grass, stretching out her legs in front of her as she waited for Captain Nagi to deplete his water bottle stock. The sky was clouding over sightly, and she could look up at the clouds without being blinded by the sun. It was not going to rain anytime soon, but Suri enjoyed the idea of more humidity in the air. Even though she had no reason to fight, it was always a good sign if she ever needed to use her zanpaku~to.

Her eyes clouded over slightly as she gazed over the treetops, thinking of a similar time in the past when she had lain on a grass field on a cloudy day. It had not been a particuarly bad day, but it was another in a chain of bad memories. For centuries she had been telling herself that it was no longer important. It did not matter. But somehow, her history kept showing up in the smallest things.

"I suppose I am obliged to tell you my history," Suri said after a pause. "I do not think you would want a subordinate with a past shrouded in mystery."

Running her fingers through her bangs, Suri pushed them out of her eyes. She shook her head slightly, thinking quietly, "It is not the same. Today is not the past. A different day that cannot be as disastrous as that."

"The kidou first though," said Suri brightly. "I hear it is a reiatsu shield. That is probably the most defensive bakudo yet, save for Reverse Demon maybe.":

Nagi nodded in compliance. Though he was still smiling, he somewhat felt bad that even though she was able to tell him a little about herself, there wasn't much for him to say in return for he had no memories to tell. Despite this, he decided that it wasn't something to worry about at that moment.

"Whenever you're ready to tell me, I'll be more than willing to listen." he smiled while finding his field bag.

Quickly, Nagi opened the draw string and went for the more important thing at that time. Grabbing a bottle of water for himself as well as one for Suri, he tossed one over to her while uncorking his and downing the whole one-quart on the spot. Even though he now felt like a jelly-fish, the liquid cooled him from the inside out. Eventually, his head would stop hurting and he wouldn't be sweating so much. The healing properties of water had always astounded him and never went without it.

"Okay... now to find that kido." he mumbled to himself while wiping the corner of his mouth with his wrist while the other hand dug through the bag to find his notebook. He knew that if he seen it somewhere before, that would be the first place to look.

He grabbed another bottle of water before he sat down and began flipping through the pages. Nothing was in order, of course, but it was better than nothing. Whatever he found, he wrote it down... enough said. His intuition told him it would probably be near the back since it was supposedly newly discovered. After a few minutes of scanning the pages with a single finger, he found the word "enkosen" and read the following.

"I found it." he grinned as his memory began telling him the rest. "The circular shield, Enkosen.' This is very easy... If you know kyomon or danku than this will be a piece of cake since it's very similar."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 4:20 pm

:Snapping her arm out, Suri grabbed the bottle that Nagi had thrown at her. She pressed it to the sheath of her zanpaku~to, giving it time to cool down before she popped open the lid and started to sip at the cold water. As much as she knew it was good for her, Suri never found it polite to chug water, even when thirsty. It was a slightly bad habit of hers to be overly polite until almost pompous, but it was one of the hardest things to set aside, especially considering how harshly she had always been reprimanded before.

"Hmmm, I am not sure I was ever lucky enough to be able to learn those kidous," Suri said when she had finished about a quarter of her bottle. Her tone was half laughing, half serious. "Although I would not mind learning those. Maybe the three can be combined into one lesson somehow if they are so similar?"

It was a bit of an audacious proposal, and she knew it. Danku especially was such a high level kidou that it was insane to think about trying it while spending reiatsu on other things also. However, putting the proposal out there was better than letting the idea simmer until it drove her crazy.:

((Didn't I teach you mirror shield? Maybe that was somebody else...))

"That wouldn't be a bad idea... though Danku would take at least one session because using it the first couple of times drains you really fast." Nagi grinned as he popped the cork off his second bottle. The notebook was spread open on his lap so he could just simply look down for further reference. "We can learn Enkosen today and if there's time we can also do Kyomon if you haven't learned that one already. The only difference between the two is their ability. Kyomon blocks the physical body or objects from one side only while Enkosen acts as a shield for just about anything. Unfortunately, Enkosen is a lot smaller so it's more of a personal kido. It is also capable of shattering if you don't put enough spirit energy into it. You have to basically make it equal to the force you are blocking. In this case, we can try it out by perhaps throwing rocks or something. When we get a better feel for it, we'll try actual attacks to see how it holds up. How does that sound?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 7:12 pm

(( Nope sweatdrop I'm not sure I ever got trained for anything above 5 in BSS because we kept getting interrupted. ))

:Capping the bottle with a flick of her finger, Suri set it down in the grass next to her zanpaku~to sheath. Her fingers started to play with the short chain at the end of her zanpaku~to as Suri considered the possibilities. An image flashed through her head of Captain Nagi purposely throwing a rock hard enough to break bone, but she dismissed the image. Most people who kept their past under wraps usually hid something not so pleasant, but she did not think that Captain Nagi had an intentionally bad bone in his body.

"It sounds like a good plan to me," Suri nodded in agreement. "Hopefully this kidou does not require a long incantation. I do not think I could speak faster than a sword swing or another kidou blast."

She stood up and walked a bit further out of the field. Not too far that she was out of hearing range, but far enough that if anything missed or her reiatsu went awry no animal hiding in the underbrush would be hit.:

((Sorry for not jumping on this sooner... I had to work late today =_= I'm about to crash soon! And good job on the recruiting! I admit I'm not that great at it... sweatdrop You're a life-saver.))

"There is most likely an incantation, but there wasn't one I could find..." Nagi shrugged as his eyes wandered back down to the paper that was littered with his horrible handwriting. For a moment, he wondered if anyone other than himself could ever possibly read it, assuming it were some other language no human should ever hope to come across. "We'll see what happens without it. Though it is true that skilled shinigami can activate a kido without having to use the chant... I'm sure you can do it just as easily as I can. Let's see what it can do..."

With that, Nagi shut the book with a snap and sat it down on top of his bag as he returned to his feet. Taking in a deep breath and holding it, he closed his eyes for a moment, attempting to imagine how this was going to work out in his head. If they were to make a shield out of spirit energy, then Nagi wasn't going to have any trouble with it. To Nagi, a shield meant protection, and protection was something he lived for. It was his compassion, his lifestyle, and his devotion to protect that got him this far. It was all these thoughts and goals that enabled him to do anything he put his mind to if he worked hard enough.

Finally letting out the air he was holding in, Nagi's eyes reopened to reveal that his right eye was already dilated as the spirit energy was now channeled into his right arm, wrist and hand. It didn't tingle as much for he wasn't going to use up his riatsu to its full extent. He held up his arm, pointing away from Suri with his palm facing outward and his fingers spread as if he were about to catch an visible ball. He had a picture in his head- it was a round, flat disk of nothing but pure mass energy. Instead of it being clear, it had a faint white glow to it to show that was indeed an object and not something to be hidden from view. It was there as a shield and nothing else.

In a very calm, clear voice, Nagi said the words "Bakudo number thirty-nine, enkosen."

At that moment, the spirit energy that had been gathered in his wrist and palm suddenly spread, emitting from his fingertips and began forming a round, pale white, flat object. It took merely a few seconds to reach full size. Though to Nagi this was very slow, he wasn't disappointed for this was his first time ever using it. He also wasn't sure if it was strong enough but it didn't look like a wet noodle either, and that was all that mattered.

"This is pretty neat..." he said, now allowing his right side to concentrate while the left allowed him to speak and think other thoughts. He was grinning, staring at the white disk. "It would make a lovely tea-tray too."

Though that last little bit was a lame joke, he wasn't expecting Suri to laugh. Letting out a sigh, he suddenly allowed the riatsu flow to cease and the shield's light faded then disappeared all together.
