I have only read twilight and I started reading it on July 27th at midnight and finished a week later, reading about 60 pages a day. I kept reading because the plot interested me until I got halfway through and Edward gave up trying to control his urge. I didn't really enjoy it. I mean, I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it. I like it as a guilty pleasure, light summer reading, but not more than that. I think her writing style flat out stinks. The entire book is written at an extremely low level, with no descriptions, no use of adjectives and adverbs, no high vocabulary, poor organizatinal skills. That was my writing style a couple years ago, in elementary school. There are no actions and no descriptions; all there is, basically, is dialogue. The plot is overly simplified, and everything is laid out in black in white. She makes the characters have too many question and answer sections, as though that's the only way she could weave in all of the information that she needed in the plot. Edward is too angsty and too emotional. I mean, he has the perfect life; he shouldn't have that many mood swings. She has also ruined vampires for me. Vampires are supposed to be rotting corpses that sneak around in the night and succumb to their inhumane temptation to suck on human blood, not perfect, handsome gods that feed on black bears. There is no plot; it isn't even a good romance novel. I didn't see any hints of the love and attractions that are supposed to ooze out of well-written romance novels. I didn't see any superb descriptions and fantastic characteristics that are supposed to bleed from fantasy works. Nothing actually happened in this book. Everything is resolved too quickly, too ideally, as though this is taking place in a utopia. Everything is either all-out negative, or perfect; the novel is written in a black-and-white style, with no gray areas, no realism or fantasy elements woven in except for the vampiric nature of edward. None of the characters have real personalities except for charlie and the native americans. Meyers doesn't even develop real relationships with the other charcters in the book, writing them in only when necessary, like walk-on roles, and throwing characters by the wayside every other page.

can I comment on your prologue? okay, I'm commenting anyway. I like your descritions, but I feel as though you were rushing through the writing. I think you should slow down the pace, maybe by playing around with sentence structure, or by adding more details about each idea, and making the sentences longer. Longer sentences always slow down the speed that emanates from writing. Adding simple details, like an extra adjective or adverb, or an emotion, helps a lot, too.

BTW, I knew you wrote that before I read the next couple of posts because you refused to post who the author was.

Finaly! Someone who agrees with me about Twilight!
Does it really make any sense how it has become such a popular series? I don't understand it at all.

&&I LOVE it when people give me tips and avice! You don't even know how much that makes me happiehh.
Ohhh, yeah, I really liked it but it felt like there was somehting off.
I'll try to do that, thank you so much!

You should like.... be a professional edditor. I always have something to say, and I couldn't figure out what was making me angry about it xP

Hmm...I think that it has become so popular because of the fact that it is written on a low level and the plot is very simple so anyone can understand it. It also appeals to your emotions, albeit poorly. Most teens are just interested in light books that have a romantic element, and twilight fits that perfectly. I mean, there's nothing serious in there, but a "hot" vampire and a subservient girl willing to do anything to be able to live with him for forever. What more could a lust-hungry teen want?

yay, I'm glad you're not mad; most people don't take it too, well, um, eagerly when I say derogetory things about their writing.

redface you're just being nice

It just makes me too angry to think when I think about how people actually like that book... and why they like it.

It's not derogetory, it's just constructive criticism- any good writer should be open minded enough to not just take peoples' thoughts about their writing and run with it, but to take it and fly with it.

[ughhh off topic! oh well...]
Would you mind editing some more of my works for me?
I really could use some advice that is more than "its good. keep writing." haha... :]

Have you read any of the books? Of Course <3
How many? All four
Why did you start? In 2005, I was in 5th grade. When the book came out I never heard of it before. I saw it at a school book fair. Bought it for only 8 bucks, Read it once and loved it.
What kept you reading or why did you cease to read? Just the writing style, How Bella just fell for Edward, ow he fell for her, How I can relate to Bella so well.
Did you enjoy it? Honestly I would marry those books ;>>
What made you decide that you liked it or disliked it? Its just everything about the book, Keeps me reading, No matter how many times I've read each book.
What do you think of Meyer;s writing style? God of the pen
What are you opinions on the basic plot? Very well thought out and written.

Trix, how do you relate to Bella well? Her character isn't even as complex as a stick figure, what is realistic or realatable about that?
Do you read much? She writes worse than I did at age twelve, with plenty of gramatical errors, choppy sentences, and blocks of dialogue that last forever. A good author understands how to use propper grammar, have sentence variety and flow, and knows how to move the plot along, give dimension to characters, and feed the reader information. She did none of those things, so how is she "God of the pen"?

With all that you said, I do believe that we are reading different books, because you described the exact opposite of what Twilight is.

Please take no offance but everyone has diffferent opinions. What one person may Love another may hate...

I can compare to Bella on many many levels. Different things, like physical and as the way Meyer describes her even emotional to an point.

I read quite often. Of course the Twilight series isn't as close to my heart as Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre. Even the Uglies series and The Great And Terrible Beauty series are neck and neck with the Twilight series.

Don't worry about it, this is a debate thread.
That happens sometimes.

Hohoho, i think I'll voice my opinion XD

First let me say, i like vampire books in general. I have read them from authors like Anne Rice to Poppy Z. Brite. Now that that has been said..

Have you read any of the books?
Yes, im finishing Eclipse now

Why did you start?

About a year or more ago, my friends girlfriend told me it was a good book and lent me Twilight.

What kept you reading or why did you cease to read?

I usually dont like love stories, but this one really caught me.
One thing i found, was how Bella and Edward act towards each other after they've been an established couple. In new Moon and Eclipse i found myself crying through chapters, maybe it's because my lover is 6,000 miles away, but Stephanie wrote those scenes so well.

What made you decide that you liked it or disliked it?

Well i like the main plot with Bella and Edward and trying to become a vampire. But then each books plots, like the Volturi, James&Victoria, those are pretty catchy.

I think it's a cute book series, but im not going to push it on anyone or say someone is stupid for not liking it. What happened to everyone just having different tastes and it being cool?

Hmmm, I do see your point, however, I don't understand how it is written well. Stephenie writes like a teenager, like I wrote when I was 12, and it just isn't anywhere near comparable to most good books.

I don't understand why people think others are stupid for not liking the series, it's all personal prefrence. I don't understand how it is possible to enjoy any of the books, but I don't put people down for it. I just think it's sad that a lame story such as Twilight is getting so much attention when masterpieces, that are truly deserving, are never picked up.

Do you mean the classics? Or other vampire type chronicles? ((like Poppy Z. Brite's books))

I mean other novels that few people know about, such as Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill.
I haven't been able to finish it because I've been busy, and it's too good of a book to rush. However, I do know that it is one of those books that I will never get tired of reading over and over; actually the only one so far.

It's beautifully written, combines information with action, has the perfect amount of dialogue with actual description during the scenes, and twists and turns that acutally surprise you. While Twilight is written poorly with amature skills, is mainly dialogue that feeds you information, or seems to have no point, and has as many surprises as a classic disney cartoon. Not to mention the unrealistic characters with no depth or personality, unlike the deep, complicated characters in Heart-Shaped Box.
So how is it that so many people love Twilight, when masterpieces go unknown? It's sad, pathetic, and ignorant of people. It makes me detest the human race even more.
