"It's quite average for my upbringing," Samuel admitted, giving a kind of noncommittal shrug, "I would very much like to show you my childhood home some day. How about you? DId you have a large family?"
---
Polly frowned, gently stepping out of the dress.
"Why won't they give you 'lectricity?"

"Me? No.....No. I'm an only child." Olivia said, trying not to smile too awkwardly in attempts to mask the obvious pain she felt. "It was just me and my Na-na. This is her shop you know. It used to be a tailoring shop, but I'm not very good at that sort of thing." Olivia murmured, looking off into space.
-----------------
"I don't know," Ment shrugged, "They just won't give it to us. 'Livia has pleaded and pleaded and taken her case to the higher ups and whatnot, but they just won't let us have it."

"Ah, yes," Samuel said, giving a little nod, "My father was an only parent for years after I was born, the poor man. He finally got remarried." He noted the look of pain or perhaps sadness that Olivia gave and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
---
"Huh. That's mean of them..."

Olivia jumped slightly as Samuel had placed a hand on her shoulder. She had gotten lost starring off into space for a moment and smiled at him a little embarrassed by it. She patted his hand appreaciating his concern.
"Makes me wonder if my Nana would be proud of how far I've come." she laughed.
---------------
Ment shook his head, "Yeah. It's ok though. We'll get it one of these days."
He smiled hopefully helping Polly out of the dress and making sure to put it back in it's place carefully.

"I'm certain she is," Samuel said with a little smile, "I don't see how she couldn't be." He felt awful for the poor woman. She was so beautiful and kind. It was times like these when he felt guilty for having money.

"She'd probably complain about me not being married yet." Olivia laughed, giving off a sigh. "I'm thirsty. Would you like something to drink, Samuel? We have tea, milk, lemonade?"
Of course Olivia had other drinks too, but it probably wouldn't be a good idea to go about drinking with kids upstairs who could be potentially listening into one's conversations.

Samuel's eyes widened a moment, but only a moment. Finally, someone else whose family complained of his lack of marriage! A least he wasn't alone!
"Anything is quite fine." He didn't want to be disappointed, just in case her tea was sub-par. He was a bit of a connoisseur, after all.

"I'll make some tea than. A neighbor gave it to me for christmas so I don't exactly know what grade of tea it is. I'm assuming they grew it themselves." She smiled, grabbing a pot from the cupboard and filling it with some water.
"Little things like that are what I like about this part of the neighborhood. Everyone is rather nice regardless of their monetary standings."

Oh, score. Home-grown? Perfect.
"That's why I left my childhood home. They're quite...traditional in their thinking, I'm afraid." He'd never understood why how much someone could afford made them better or worse than anyone else.

"When'd you leave your home?" Olivia asked, looking through another cupboard for the tea leaves and the cloth pouches to place them in. She loved tea, but she never much liked having the tea leaf sticking to the bottom of the cup. She'd always forget about them and end up having the peel off dried tea leaves in the end.

"As soon as I could. I took my inheritance and left. I must have been...sixteen?" Samuel stood and joined Olivia by the cabinets. For a moment, he hovered behind her, but then touch his right hand to her left shoulder and moved to the side.
"Do you need any help?"

"Wow. That's quite a young age to be out on one's own." Olivia commented, jumping once more when Samuel placed his hand on her shoulder letting her know he was behind her. Poor Olivia. You're so easily spooked.
"No. I'm good. Afterall I'd be a poor hostess if I let the guest help me make the tea." She laughed.

Samuel just smiled and let his hand move from Olivia's shoulder to massage the back of her neck briefly.
"Please. It's a man's job to make the lady's life as simple as possible. Anyway, I enjoy making tea." He let Olivia go them, waiting to see her reaction to the sudden physical attention, and its sudden absence.

Olivia simply laughed at Samuel's comment, not noticing the neck rub. She was too used to be touched by Ment whenever he went by. So toughy-feely the boy was.
"If it was a man's job in life to make a lady's life simpler, than why is it I'm still cleaning up after Ment?"
Was that flirting?

"Well, because you don't have a man to do that for you," Samuel said with a little snort of laughter. He wasn't sure if Olivia was flirting or not, but he certainly was.
