Mel had to think for a moment about that but finally remembered. “A unicorn. And she had this weird red scarf lookin’ thing. She said something about it but I can’t remember what she said. Maybe something like a friend gave it to her. I think. She had black hair too. That’s all I can remember though, besides her name which was Misaki.” He nodded to his mother before looking around for his missing daughter, only to see her sucking up to her grandfather. Oh great. It was pretty obvious who was going to be stealing all of the attention for a while.
Kahili smiled and snuggled against her grandpa. She was definitely going to be a grandma/grandpa girl, no doubt about that. “What’re they talking about, grandpa? I don’t know anyone that sounds like daddy just said. Is she more family? I like family, they’re nice.” She giggled as she watched the others talking about this new lotus mare.

"You'll have to ask your grandma. If this mare is family, I haven't met her either. She'll be new to both of us." he smiled down at his granddaughter and nibbled on her mane once he got done talking. He was smitten, what could he say.
For a moment, he looked up and over to Vara. She'd never mentioned family that looked like that. Not giving it much though, his attention turned back to Kahili.
"So what do you think, Mom? Is she one of us, or just another soquili?" Tuli was excited at the thought of even more family being in the area. She wondered who it could be, a distant cousin of sorts...maybe?
She looked over to her father and Kahili, laughing at the sight of her father with a mouth full of mane. "Now that's attractive, Dad."

"Misaki?!" Vara's astonished voice cut through the other conversations. "You've met Misaki?" For the moment her attention was completely focused on Mel. Her face split into a wide and utterly astonished smile. Her sister. The description alone was enough to make her fairly certain but the name made it definite.
"Mel! You have to tell me where you saw her! Maybe she's still in the area and I can meet with her! You all would love Misaki... she has one of the most amazing spirits I've ever known. She's... she's..." She trailed off, breathless with excitement. "I'm sorry. I've gotten a bit over-excited, haven't I?"
"You should have mentioned her name first," Karma chided his brother. That could have saved them time and confusion. It was hard to say what had made his mother more happy, the discovery of new grandchildren or that her sister was in the area. It had been a good day of news for her, Karma reflected.

Mel rolled his eyes at his brother. "Oh shut it Karma. I barely even remembered her name and it just happened to come to me. Plus none of use even knew if she'd know her so the name possibly wouldn't have been much help." The navy stallion was starting to get irritated with some of his brother's remarks and especially the way he referred to him. No one used his full name, not even his parents and it got annoying after a while. But taking his mind away from his winged twin, he turned back to his mother. "She said she was headed towards the mountains. I'm sure she's around somewhere. So she is family then? That's great then! It was good that one of them suggested to come and tell you. I just thought it was some coincidence." He smiled a bit at how excited his mother was at hearing this news.
Kahili giggled at her little mane being nibbled at and nibbled at her grandpa's muzzle happily. When another outburst sounded she looked around to see who was making the noise and noticed it was her grandmother. "Wow grandma sure is excited about something, huh? Maybe it's that mare that they were talking about?" She looked up at Scythe, her little tail wiggling with her own excitement. Just being around all this family was enough to make her smile and act all giggly.

Scythe's head shot up at the sound of his mate's voice. He'd very rarely ever seen her this excited. "Sister?" his head tilted, his attention turning from Kahili for the moment. "All this time, you never mentioned a sister..."
Tuli eye'd Karma, he always had something snarky to say. She just snorted at him as if saying "Shut up". She turned to Vara and laughed, "We have an aunt? Imagine that!" She wondered what her extended family was like, it was a shame that Mel was the only one who'd gotten to meet her and now they have no clue where she was. "Maybe she's not far?"

"I'm sorry I never mentioned her." Vara was nearly babbling in her excitement. Her front two hooves were dancing and prancing beneath her, bouncing and sending her mane swinging. "I didn't think I'd ever see her again. I didn't think I'd see any of that family ever again." She gave Mel a spontaneous and loving nuzzle. "How fortunate is it that you came across her and even more fortunate that you mention it. You have given me two wonderful gifts in one day!"
Karma's ears flicked back when chided in return by his siblings. Very well then. I will remain silent. There were so many of them about that they needed several to be more quiet to maintain order anyways. He was having a hard time keeping track of what everyone was saying as it was.

Mel smiled and nuzzled his mother back, nibbling on her cheek happily. "Well it was more of a coincidence I'd say. And I think I gave you that gift and the other one seems more a gift for dad." He turned and once again looked at his father acting like a dork with his daughter. "I don't know where she would be, possibly close but I wouldn't have a clue. If anything Tuli or Karma should go and fly around, maybe they can spot her. Otherwise I don't know how we'd find her, besides another coincidence if she showed up here."
Kahili looked around at all the faces curiously. They all seemed so excited about this fact they had just learned but she really wasn't getting much of it. She figured she'd just let them talk about whatever grown up stuff they wanted and she could take a nice nap. It was a long walk to get here after all. The little filly curled up on the ground underneath her grandpa right where she had stood and curled into a ball to sleep for a little while.

"Hey, hey now!" he laughed and looked over to Vara and Mel. "No need in making fun of an old man," he grinned then looked back to Kahili. Sound asleep at his hooves. "Looks as thought it were too much excitement for her at once." He laughed, careful not to move so that he wouldn't wake her. He turned his attention back to the rest of the family. "That's a good idea, the three of us could go in search..." he referenced himself, karma, and Tuli.
"I wouldn't mind, only I'm not sure who I'd be looking for..." her voice trailed off. "I mean...I guess long hair and a red cape...but that could be anyone." She looked from her mother the Mel and back again. "How will we know her?"

Vara forced her excitement to calmness and called the image of her sister into her mind. It had been so long. Would she look different? The basics probably wouldn't be but things like manes could change overnight. She could only hope that the description of a sister she hadn't seen in years in addition to Mel's recollection would be enough to find her... not that it was an easy task to find one soquili out there even with a perfect description.
"The first thing is that she is a unicorn. My sister has the golden horn and the lion's tail to mark her as that race." There would be time later for her to explain the peculiarities of breeding that left her with a unicorn sister when she showed none of their qualities. "Unlike me she is primarily blue. She has blue patterns in waves across her body." Vara's eyes had shut. She could almost see her sister smiling before her now.
"Lotus leaves and blossoms grow up and out of her legs, further up than mine go. Her hair is black. When I knew her she would wear it long but also elaborately styled. She did always wear a red sash, bound by a golden brooch set with a red gem. Her eyes are emerald green and filled with so much kindness..." She trailed off, lost in her own memories. After a moment of this she opened her own eyes once more. "Her name is Misaki. If you tell her about me and that you are my family I have no doubts that she would come with you."
Karma nodded to this. "I think I could recognize her from that." He looked to his father for confirmation. "Would we fly together, or alone?" He did not question the need to seek out this long-missing sister. Though he was the most distant of their family he still knew that family was one of the most important things in the world.

Mel nodded at the description that his mother had given perfectly. Better than he could have given but it was all right, straight down to the color of her eyes. As Tuli, Karma and their father spoke of their flying arrangements, he remained beside his mother. "Looks like it's you, me and the napper over there until they find your sister. I'm sure they'll find her in no time, especially if she said she was heading this way. Along with three sets of eyes, we can't lose." He smiled and nuzzled Vara's cheek softly.

"Well, that's settled then!" she looked to their father and over to Karma. "Which way are you two going?" she questioned, trying to figure out in which direction she should fly. "We should get going if we're going to find her!" she spoke excitedly. She couldn't wait to find her mother's sister...her aunt, wow!
"Unicorn?" he started to question before Tuli's exuberance caught him. He laughed at Tuli's expressions. "Yes, I suppose that's it. I'll go North...Karma to the west...Tuli, you go South." he didn't figure she had made it North to the mountains yet, but he wanted to check and make sure. "Who ever finds her, introduce yourself and bring her back to your mother." he nodded, silently hopeing that he wouldnt' find her. How would he explain himself is she ran from his appearance as many others had in the past?

Vara imagined that there would need to be an explanation of her sister's breed later... but that was indeed something that could wait. For now she was still reeling from the possibility. Her family. Her old family. The possibility of regaining that connection filled her to the brim with joy. She nuzzled Mel back, her euphoria fading to a soft smile. "I'm glad to have your company, Mel. We can catch up about your little girl there while they're off looking."
She looked to the rest of her family then, those with wings who were preparing to set off. "Thank you, all of you. It means... so much to me." Suddenly she was choking up and couldn't find the voice to continue. She instead simply smiled, the tears of her eyes being ones of joy and not sadness. Family...
"You're welcome, Mother." Karma inclined his head in acknowledgment to her and looked to his father. "That sounds like a good plan. Perhaps we can speak to the other soquili we see in case they've seen her, as well."

Mel looked over at the sleeping filly, who was now shifting around a bit since her shelter, namely her grandfather, was moving off to organize flight routes. He trotted over and started to push her across the grass toward his mother, not the least bit surprised she didn’t stir even a little when he scooted her. “Not much to tell about this one. What you see is what you get. Though she seems to have taken a liking to her grandparents and there’s no doubt in my mind that she’ll use her deadly weapons of cuteness to get whatever she wants from you two.” He grinned at his mother before tilting his head down to his daughter. Amazing that one small slip could produce something so perfect. He was sure that no matter what he’d never regret her not as long as he lived. “So why didn’t you tell us about Misaki? Even dad seemed surprised to know that you had a sister. Was she supposed to be a secret or something?”

"It's settled then!" Tuli almost bounced with excitement. "Let's go!" She got a running start, not even looking back to see if her father and brother were leaving. She spread her wings and took to the skies. She was excited that her mother was so ecstatic about Mel's news. She just -had- to find her aunt.
Scythe laughed as he watched Tuli run and take off. If only she would learn to be so animated about other aspects of life. He turned to Karma, "Be safe, yes?" he nodded before turning to Vara, "We'll return by sundown...Hopefully...hopefully with your sister." He stretched out, gently nuzzling her neck with a smile. He was glad to see her happy, he only hoped that she wouldn't be disappointed if they couldn't find Misaki by tonight. He turned slowly, his body not as quick as it use to be. His wings moved slowly but with purpose. They were so heavy that it was hard for him to take off from the ground, he was much better at gliding from higher grounds. Finally, he set off to look for Misaki.

Karma was the last of them to leave. He took the time to settle himself inwardly before so much as spreading his wings. This probably wouldn't mean a big change for his own life... but it was still a change. Such things needed to be contemplated and prepared for. "Good bye, Mother, Brother." He addressed both of them in turn and waited for his mother to give her own farewells before he should start off.
"Good bye and good luck, Karma." Seeing him turning, Vara quickly stepped to Karma's side and gave his neck a soft nuzzle. "And thank you." He left without another word. Karma had never been the talkative one and it seemed like that much hadn't changed. It was then that she turned to her final child beside her to answer his question.
"I haven't mentioned Misaki or the rest of my family because..." She hesitated for a moment, her smile turning wistful and muted. "Because I never thought I'd see them again. In a way, I've tried to put them from my mind to save myself the pain of losing them." When she refocused back on Melanthios her blue eyes seemed to shine with an inner light. "But I see I was wrong to think that way. I will see them again, Misaki at the very least. Fate would not have brought us this close if it did not mean for us to meet again." She looked out to the horizon where she could still see Scythe, Tuli, and Karma as blurs against the sky.
"We're family, all of us here and those of us apart.... and families can't stay separated forever."
((End?))
