There it was again. That sound. Corbin ran his hands through his hair as the screeching noise made itself known yet again. Only this time it was louder. His left eye twitched as the sound got louder and louder. He clasped his hands to his ears in an attempt to block the maddening sound out. It didn't work. Which just pissed him off. Corbin leaned his head back and opened his mouth. The sound that came out of that gaping hole would have scared the bajeebus out of anyone that was within hearing distance.
The high pitched scream revealed more of his emotions than a single word could. What WAS that noise he was hearing. "Damn it." Corbin muttered into the blackness that surrounded him. Wearily he got up from the crummy old mattress he had just been sleeping on not two minutes ago. "I suppose I should get up for the day..." He sighed a bit as he muttered to himself yet again.
The sound wouldn't stop. It just kept going and going. Now that he was up his stomach was hurting as well. Corbin groaned as he placed a hand over his stomach. He felt like he was going to throw up. Was it the sound? "It couldn't be that.." He said out loud as if he was responding to someone else's question and not his own. A sound couldn't make someone sick, after all. Could it?
Corbin staggered into the kitchen, turning lights on as he did. A small television set sat on counter and he flipped it on as he headed for the fridge. Something to eat would calm his stomach. He was sure of it. He grabbed the left over pizza sitting on a shelf in the fridge and headed over to his kitchen table and sat down. As he started munching on the cold pizza he flipped through the channels on the tv. He was searching for a news channel. He couldn't be the only one hearing that noise. He knew it wasn't in his head...and yet, it was. He wasn't sure. He just wanted it to stop. Or at least to know what the hell was causing it.
Nothing. No news about the noise. Maybe it was just him. Maybe he was the only one hearing it. Was he crazy? He groaned at the thought and knew that in one way or another it was true. He was crazy. He shoved that thought aside as he slammed his fist down on to the table. He had to get out of the house. Had to. Raising up he grabbed his jacket and shrugged it on. Nothing under it, just the jacket. Like always.
He ground his teeth as the noise kept on and on. He shot out the front door of his house and slammed it shut. He'd take a walk. A long one to try and clear his mind. Maybe the noise would go away. Fade into nothingness and leave him the hell alone. He didn't know where he was headed but he knew he needed to go.

Corbin's eyes wandered down the street that loomed in front of him. At the end of their search a rather creepy building was in his sights. He shuddered at the thought of stepping foot in there. He'd been past the place before. Felt a little tug, as if something wanted him to go in there, though he shrugged it off as nothing. Of course, he didn't know then what he knows now. His left hand twitched as he reached up to the cross around his neck. "Damn habbit..." He muttered mostly to himself.
Corbin took a shaky step forward, determined to make it inside the building no matter what. The screeching noise that he had heard earlier on in the day had finally stopped. Could of happened sooner though. As of now, Corbin's eyes were blood shot and he needed more sleep. After all, the noise had woken him from a dead sleep and he'd only been asleep for 3 hours.
Corbin shook his head as he realized he was now standing in front of the door. He hadn't even realized he'd gotten this close to the place. He managed to pry his hand loose from the cross and reached out towards the knob. He'd go in. He had to. He had to do it for her. Had to find her. He clinched his teeth and squeezed his eyelids shut tightly as his hand made contact with the old doorknob.
His jaw ached from all the grimacing he'd been doing. It seemed like he'd been up all night, too- which he had been. What was it, four or five in the morning? And just yesterday, that kid...
Well, he didn't want to think about it. Edward stretched; honestly, he expected Banshee to just be having him on. No summoner would honestly be up this early, even with the strange screeching sounds (which he had gotten used to, actually). So, he hadn't bothered to get dressed. When he opened the door for Corbin, he blinked in surprise; omnipotent shopkeepers did not get caught dressed for bed (which was to say, in loose black pants and nothing else).
Couldn't be helped. "Good morning, sir," he said. "May I be of assistance?"
Corbin scratched the back of his head as he he too a step back. He hadn't expected someone to actually be at the door and to open it. That was creepy. It'd be even more creepy if the guy wasn't shirtless. Wait...shirtless? What the hell? Corbin's eyes looked at the man and then past him into the shop.
"I-I'm sorry to of bothered you..." He muttered quietly. "I heard you can help me..." Was he really doing this? He had to. Finding her was the best thing for both of them. She'd understand. Biting his lower lip Corbin continued to talk. "I heard you can help me summon a demon." There, it was out. Corbin clenched his jaw to keep himself from bursting out in tears. It was the last thing he needed. Show his weak side. No, it wouldn't do.
"Yes, that's correct," said Edward, stepping back. "Please come in. I'll be with you in a moment." He tapped a stool on the other side of his desk, indicating that Corbin should take a seat, before hurrying up the stairs and putting the shirt of the pajama set back on. Once back downstairs, he sat in his normal place behind the desk.
He rolled his shoulders and pulled out his lexicon. "Do you have a demon in mind, sir?"
Corbin followed him inside the store, a strange feeling overcoming him. Like something was happy he was here. Strange. He followed the man with his eyes and looked at the stool he indicated then watched as he quickly ran up the stares. Slowly, he made his way over to the stool, all the time looking around at the shop, his eyes taking in every detail. Corbin cocked his head to the side as the man sat down on his own stool, the huge desk like an island between the two men.
Corbin was nervous. Though you couldn't tell it if you were to look in his eyes. You had to know his quirks. The habits that give away his feelings when he'd other wise have them shut up inside. Inside where no one could see. That was the right thing to do. No worrying for others. Nope. Corbin jumped as he heard the man's voice. "Yes, I do." He simply answered the question and then continued on. "I want to summon a Succubus." Corbin sat straight up, hoping it'd make him seem more....more what? Brave? He supposed that's what it was. Even if he didn't feel it at the moment.
Two? In one day? (or... one cycle of wakefulness, anyway.) Edward sighed. "Of course you do. I will not ask why." He pulled out a second contract and slid it across to the man with a quill. "By signing this, you relieve me of any legal or moral obligation towards your situation beyond helping you with the summoning. You also agree to provide me with opportunities to study your summoned creature and your relationship with it at my convenience, mister..." He paused. At least this one looked older than the unfortunate Mr. Dresden.
"My name's Corbin. Corbin Duane Colbie.." Corbin said as he took the quill into his hand and started at the paper in front of him. This was it. His last chance to turn back. He knew he wouldn't. Couldn't. Taking a deep breath he started to sign his name to the paper. The nervous scrawl coming out messy and almost illegible, kind of like a doctor's signature.
He hadn't bothered to read it. What was the point? He knew what he was getting into; sort of. Corbin wouldn't blame the man for anything that happened. Good or bad. This was all him. The man was just providing Corbin with a means and a way to summon the demon. He put the pen down and shoved the paper back across the desk. He looked up and his eyes were void of all emotion. Nothing revealing how he felt at the moment. Not even a nervous tick. "You never told me your name.." Corbin said, as if it actually mattered at that point. Things were done. He just needed to be told what to do and he'd be out of here and back home. Maybe able to get some rest.
"Edward Fauste," he said as he signed the contract and put it away. "Now, to summon a succubus, draw a five-pointed star inside a circle in black ink; place black tapers on the corners of the pentacle, where the points meet the circle. Burn these herbs-" he slid a list, which he had quickly jotted down in neat but archaic script, across to Corbin "-in the center of the star and call out to the succubus three times. That should do it."
Corbin listened intently so as not to miss a detail. He couldn't mess this up. He had to get it right the first time. Messing up was NOT an option. He nodded as Edward told him what to do. Hastily Corbin grabbed the list of herbs and quickly read the list. Getting them would be no problem. He smiled, showing that rare glimmer of emotion that he strives so hard not to show. He crammed the paper into his pants pocket and looked back up at Edward. He was finished talking. "Thank you..." Corbin said quietly. He didn't like thanking people but without Edward he wouldn't be able to have the chance to find her. He rose up from the stool and reached his hand over the desk intending to shake Edward's hand, though he didn't know how the man would react or whether he even liked to be touched. Hell, Corbin wasn't even sure why HE was doing it.
With an uncomfortable smile, Edward shook Corbin's offered hand. "It was a pleasure doing business with you," he said. "I'll see you at your earliest convenience, then." He began to neaten the work area again; since he was awake, there was no reason not to. "I wish you pleasant sleep," he added, more as reflexive courtesy than anything. "Good-bye."
Corbin bowed a bit and turned towards the door. "I'm sorry for catching you so early." He said as he headed for the door and shot out of it before Edward had a chance to say anything else. Corbin let out a deep sigh as he leaned his back against the door. Finally, out of that place. He shoved his hand into his pocket and jerked the piece of paper out of it. Staring down at it he decided he might as well get the herb shopping over with and headed in the direction of the nearest store. All the while thinking of her. Wondering if this would work. Hoping it would work.

Corbin's hand ran nervously through his hair as he stared down at his bedroom floor. He was really doing this. Really going to summon an energy sucking demon to help him find her. Could he do it? Was he strong enough? Quickly he shoved the rug, under his feet, to the side and got down on his knees. His hand shook. Taking a deep breath Corbin closed his eyes and tried to calm his nerves.
"Calm down you wuss.." Corbin mumbled mostly to himself. He reached into the plastic bag that was sitting to his right. His hand wrapped around the handle of a medium sized paintbrush and he pulled it out. Sitting to his left was a bucket of black ink, dark as the night sky. He couldn't even remember where he got it. His mind was a blank on it. It didn't matter. All that mattered was that he had it and could use it.
Corbin dipped the brush into the black ink and brought it back out. Slowly, he lowered the brush to the floor and began to draw a circle. When he was done he leaned back to admire the circle, just the circle. He'd never drawn such a perfect circle in his life. Satisfied with the circle he leaned forward yet again and began to draw the five-pointed star inside the giant circle. Done with that he tossed the brush into the bucket that contained the ink and pushed it aside so it wouldn't be in the way.
His hands groped inside the bag once again and he pulled out three black candles he had bought earlier when he went in search of the herbs. He placed each candle in it's place and grabbed the baggy of herbs he had managed to gather at the store. Gently he placed them in the center of the star and lit them afire. Flames showed themselves for a brief moment before disappearing into the herbs and burning them.
For a fleeting moment, as the smells of the various herbs wafted through his house, Corbin hoped that his house wouldn't catch on fire. Shrugging the thought out of his head he grabbed another match and struck it on the box. Now to light the three candles. He leaned over the circle and lit each candle. One by one.
Only one thing left to do. He had to call out to the Succubus.
He settled back and sat indian style, his arms and hands resting on his legs and his back straight. He had to do this. Couldn't be a wuss. "Not a wuss.." He mumbled out loud as his eyes focused on the candles burning in front of him.
"Succubus, I call you to me." Corbin took a deep breath. He could do it.
"Succubus, I call you to me." Again, another breath. Had to do it.
"Succubus...." He trailed off, having second thoughts for a brief moment but shoving them away and finishing. "I call you to me."
As Corbin uttered the word 'me' for the last time the flames of the candles turned a deep blue. He couldn't take his eyes off of them as smoke seemed to rise from them and mingle with the smoke now coming off the herbs. The thought of his house burning down entered his mind again, only this time he was in the fire as well.
"Oh, you poor, poor little man." A soothing, no, alluring voice echoed softly through out his house. Corbin shook his head, trying to clear the drowsyness he was now feeling. "Come now, why did you summon me?" The voice again. This time with a tinge of annoyance at having been forced to come here.
Corbin's mind focused as quickly as it had gone foggy. The Succubus. It had actually worked. His eyes were on the floor. Corbin couldn't bare to bring himself to look up. Couldn't do it but knew he had to.
"C'mon, out with it." The voice of the Succubus, while still containing that same pull from before, was a bit more annoyed. She wanted answers. Wanted to know why this...pathetic human was summoning her. She had better things to do. Like seducing strong, capable men in their dreams. The smile on her face, at the thoughts, was evil, menacing and down right sexy.
Corbin's eyes began to wonder up, following the curves of the woman in front of him. No, that was wrong. She wasn't a woman, she was a demon. An energy sucking, sexaholic demon. His eyes focused on her face and he found himself not able to look away. The words that came out of his mouth next were jumbled up amongst each other but somehow he managed to make them sound right.
"I summoned you...to help me find a loved one." Corbin's hands sat in his lap, twitching to grab hold of the cross he held so dear to him even though he wasn't religious. "My one true love, to be exact. She's...missing. I've got to find her. Just have to.." He was mumbling now, more to himself than to the Succubus.
"What are you giving me in return?" The succubus asked as she looked down at the human asking this of her. "I can not, nor will I not, do anything for free."
"I..." The words wouldn't come out of Corbin's mouth. He had to go over them in his head. Make sure he didn't mess anything up. "I will give up my soul. My essence. My sexual energy. In return for you helping me find my love and for ensuring we live happily for three years." Corbin's mouth closed and he stared at the Succubus. Would she accept his terms? Oh he hoped so.
The Succubus stood there, though it seemed more like she was floating than actually standing, as if in deep thought about what he had just proposed. "Fine." She simply said. "You have a deal." The smirk on the Succubus' face would have sent any sane person running in the opposite direction. Instead, Corbin's face lit up and he had an exact copy of the smile the demon had..except without the grace and sexyness it had when on her face.

Corbin ran shaky hands through his tangled hair. A frustrated breath escaping his lips as he watched the Succubus pace back and forth. He wondered what her problem was as his eyes fell to a gaping hole, in his wall, that had not been there only moments ago. Corbin sat back in his chair and let his arms fall down to his sides limply. "What crawled up your a** today?" He asked snidely as he blew a piece of loose hair out of his eyes. Really he was either really brave or really stupid for making that comment. Either way it just seemed to piss the Succubus off even more.
"Insolent human being.." She muttered as her pacing stopped not too far from where Corbin sat. "If you were not so...enjoyable...in other ways," The succubus smirked as she looked Corbin's body up and down, god only knowing what kind of torturous acts were going through her mind at that moment. "I would kill you." She snapped off as her glare increased, making Corbin shrink back just a bit.
Corbin tried to make himself not seem afraid by crossing his arms and staring back at her. It didn't work, however; the trembling in his arms clearly seen by anyone who looked at him. The smirk that came across the Succubus' face only made Corbin's blood chill more. One of his hands reached up and he rubbed the back of his neck, somehow hoping it would alleviate some of his fear, though he knew that wasn't possible. Something was very wrong. Something had bothered her to a breaking point. He'd made snide comments like that before and she had just flirted back, making all sorts of innuendos.
Corbin searched his mind, trying to figure out what could have set this seemingly unusual bad mood of her's off. Leaning forward he rested his elbows on his knees and laid his chin in his hands. "Seriously, what has you so upset?" Corbin mumbled as he closed his eyes but followed the faint footsteps, she made as he walked across his floor, with his ears. Her pacing had slowed but her breathing was still ragged and he could hear her curse in a language that was, as of yet, unknown to him.
"That is none of your concern!" Succubus bellowed as she moved closer to Corbin. His cowering only enraged her more. At the moment, she wasn't even sure what was causing her to be such a b***h. She just felt like blowing something up. She clenched her eyes shut and mumbled incoherently.
"Damn it!" Corbin snapped. "Stop!" He yelled as he shot up from his chair. Fire was beginning to make it's way up the walls. What the hell was going on? He wasn't sure but suspected it was because of the succubus. "You should probably get out of here." He said as he bolted to the door. Corbin didn't stop running 'til his feet hit the concrete of the sidewalk that was in front of his house. Breathing hard he turned around just in time to see his house go up in flames. Groaning he fell to his knees, his face in his hands. What was he going to do now? He was homeless.
"Oops..." A voice echoed as the succubus shimmered into sight behind Corbin. Her eyes watched as flames leaped into the air, devouring what was left of Corbin's ratty old house. "Oh well hunny, the place was a dump any way." She smirked as she shimmered back out of sight.

Shula huffed out a small breath as she folded the letter she held in her hand. So the demon queen was in need of help. Shula wasn't sure as to whether she'd offer her hand or not. Maybe she should stay completely out of it. Falling back into her chair in a less than dignified stance she let out another frustrated breath. Her mind raced with different ideas of what to do.
She was a demon. By all rights she was meant to defend the queen. However, she'd never met her before, so really, there was no underlying loyalty that needed to be acknowledged. She drummed her fingers absently on the arm of the chair and closed her eyes.
She needed to get out of this huge mansion. Maybe some fresh air would help clear her mind.
