Robert gave a nod to Jake. "Same. We'll pry bump into each other on our journies, so we should battle to see each other's progress." Robert spoke before Nurse Joy handed him his Pidgey's pokeball. "Here you are, your Pidgey is all set." Robert took Krystal's pokeball as Ralts waved to the charmender. Robert headed out of the pokemon center and then took went over to Route 22, which led to Victory Road. It was obvious there was no way to get to Victory Road, and Robert knew this well. His reasons were to train and find a new pokemon friend. He had been through this area with his grandmother several times, and he knew what kind of pokemon could be found here. He wasn't interested in the common rattatas and spearows that lurked around the grasses, but rather his sights were set on finding and catching a nidoran. Posion typed, a properly trained nido would serve as a venomous tank on the pokemon battle field, especially if he could find a moon stone. Fortunately they weren't exactly rare, and Robert soon found himself with a female nidoran skipping past. Nidoran, the posion pin pokemon. While it perfers not to fight, even one drop of the posion it secreets from its barbs can be dangerous. Robert gave a coy smile. He knew psychic types had the advantage over posion types. "Lilly, use confusion." Robert spoke. Hopping down off of Ropbert's shoulder, the little ralts got into position and let loose a strong psychic wave through the little Nidoran's mind. Even as low level as Lilly was, the attack was super effective, draining the Nidoran's health to a dangerously low level. The nidoran tried to run away, but as soon as it did, Robert issued another order. "Lilly, Mean Look!" The attack caused Nidoran to stop in her tracks and turn to face Lilly. Without hesitation, Robert tossed his pokeball to catch the Nidoran, encapsuling it inside the ball as the red light swallowed it up. The ball rocked back and forth several times before the red light finally faded, the nidoran now a member of his ever growing pokemon team. And with Varidian Forest being the next obsticle to Pewter City, nidoran's posion type would come in handy agianst the venomous bug inhabitants. Taking a look at his pokedex, he saw that she already knew Scratch, Tail Whip, Posion Sting and Double Kick. Robert smiled even more. With a fighting type move at his disposal, getting through the mountains and thier rocky inhabitants would be made much easier. "Welcome to the team Julia. Now then, let's get you back to the pokemon center and heal you up. Then after that, I'll go and get some supplies for the forest trip. I doubt we'll get all the way through by nightfall, so we'll have to set up camp." Robert spoke to the captured Nidoran before heading back to the pokemon center with his new friend.

Jake watched as his new friend Robert walked out of the pokecenter. He then looked down at Charmander and opened his mouth to speak, "Charmander, we've got our first rival! Come on, lets stop at the pokemart before we go." Jake and Charmander stopped at the pokemart and bought some antidote for the forest, and food for that night. They then walked up to Route 2 in order to reach Viridian Forest. Alright Charmander, before we walk into Viridian Forest, I think we should catch a second pokemon as backup. I would say a poison type pokemon would be helpful. Hey! Charmander, over there! Its a Weedle, but...aren't Weedles usually orange?" Charmander towards his attention to the Weedle. Jake took out his pokedex and looked up Weedle, "Weedle, the Hairy Pokemon. It eats its weight in leaves every day. It fends off attackers with the needle on its head." Jake looked down at the picture of the Weedle and held it up to the wild Weedle, "Charmander! The Weedle is a different color. See, they are supposed to be orange, but this one is yellow!" Charmander realized this difference to and began to get excited. Remember that Robert had said the pokedex can really help a trainer, Jake searched his pokedex for anything about different colored pokemon, In almost an instant, Jake had found a match. The pokedex began to speak, "Shiny Pokemon. Very rarely a newly born pokemon will be differently colored than the average pokemon of that species. Shiny pokemon are no stronger or weaker that the average colored pokemon, they are just a very rare encounter." Jake got excited at the thought of finding a rare pokemon, "Charmander, we have to catch it! Quick, use ember!" charmander ran towards the Weedle and took it by surprise by hitting it with an ember attack. The attack was super affective and left the Weedle with little health left. Jake took out a pokeball and threw it at the Weedle. The Weedle was enclosed in the pokeball. The pokeball rocked back and forth on the ground and eventually stopped, confirming that the Weedle was caught. "Charmander! We've caught our first pokemon!"

Robert went back into the pokecenter after catching Julia, the newest addition to his group. "Ah, welcome back. What can I do for you?" Joy asked. Robert handed Joy Julia's pokeball. "I just caught this Nidoran and I need tit brought back to full health." Robert spoke. "Very well, it will take a little while, but your Nidoran will be back to vibrant health in no time!" Joy said with a smile.
Robert left the pokecenter to do some shopping. "I'm just glad the pokemon center doesn't charge for thier services." Robert mused to himself. Entering the pokemart, Robert began to browse the goods there, holding a basket in one hand. "Let's see. I'll take some oran powder and pokebase to make some pokeblock food. Maybe some pecha powder as well. A few potions, a few antidotes, four pokeballs, some matches, some water purification tablets and some cans of stew. And finally some small orange cups for target practice. " With everything gathered, Robert went to the cashier to check out. With his weekly allowance money, Robert made his purchase and tucked everything into his backpack. WIth a quick trip back to the pokemon center to pick up Julia, Robert readied himself to travel through the forest. Taking out his pokedex, he figured he could make it through at least three miles before sundown. After that point he would need to set up camp.
Robert traveled into the Varidian Forest. The trees were dense with little light peering through the leaves. There were plenty of bug pokemon around. Weedle was not on his to get list however. He already had a poison pokemon. However, a butterfree would make a wonderful addition with it's sleep and stun powder attacks. And since bug pokemon were well known to level faster than any other type, it wouldn't take too long to take a Caterpie along it's evolutionary route. And since bug were weak to flying types, Robert already knew which pokemon to use. Even though Krystal didn't know any flying type moves yet, caterpies were normal prey for them.
Robert saw a caterpie wandering along the grassy floor of the forest. Takling out his pokeball, Robert held it out to release Krystal. "Krystal, come out and use Pursuit!" Robert commanded. Krystal soared at the Caterpie and slammed it with its claws, sending it rolling along the ground. With pokeball in hand, Robert tossed the ball, hitting caterpie in the head. The red light came out and sucked the little bug into it. Robert kept on the ready in case it got out, but bug pokemon weren't exactly a difficult capture, unles one was dumb enough to try and catch one at full health. Once the light went from red to white, Robert went over to pick up his pokeball. However, he was not alone in the forest. Before he could get close enough to the pokeball, someone came out and swipped it. "Who are you?" Robert spoke, his voice strong with a mix of anger. Standing before him and turning around was a man dressed in black, bearing a red 'R' insignia on his chest. "Thanks for the freebie chump." He spoke. However, Robert wasn't about to simply let the crook get away. The thug grinned. "You want to battle me punk? You're out of your league. Go, Beedrill!" The thug brought out his Beedrill. Robert knew this meant the thug's pokemon was higher in level than his Ralts. However, Lilly's psychic based attack would be super effective. He had to roll with that. He still had Julia and Krystal was already out. He would use Krystal to weaken it, and then Lilly to deal the coup de grac. "Krystal, quick attack!" Robert called out. "Beedrill, Posion sting! The two collided, Krystal getting struck in the wing with the pision sting attack, but not before digging it's claws into the beedrill. "Now, Pursuit!" Robert called. Krystal's claws glowed black with darkness as it flipped around and nailed the beedrill once more. However, Krystal was loking rather ill, barely able to remain flying. "Krystal return! Lilly, Confusion now!" Lilly jumped off of Robert's shoulder and sent a wave of painful psychic energy through Beedrill, scoring a super-effective hit and fainting it. The thug threw the pokeball with Robert's caterpie at Robert's head and ran off. Robert caught the pokeball before knealing down and taking out an antidote and a potion. "You both did a great job. I'm proud of you both." Robert said as he called out Krystal. Using the antidote and potion, Robert brought his pidgey back to full health. Checking the pokedex to see her condition, he saw that she had just learned Gust, her first actual flying type attack.
The sun was starting to set. Robert had to make camp. After finding a decent sized clearing in the forest, Robert set up camp and began to fix up a few pokeblocks and regular pokemon food for his four friends, as well as stew for himself after making a firepit and setting up the tripod for his small cooking pot. Afterwards, he checked his pokedex. Caterpie, the worm pokemon. It releases a stench from its red antenna to repel enemies. it grows by molting repeatedly. He found that Caterpie was a male with the Shield Dust ability and knew tackle and string shot.

Jake sent out his newly caught caterpie and used his pokedex to check its attacks, "Okay, so you know Poison Sting and String Shot," Jake looked down at the overexcited Weedle, "Those attacks aren't too great, but the dex says bug types usually evolve pretty quickly. Once you're a Beedrill you should have a wider variety of attacks. Come on guys, lets go." Charmander picked up Weedle and set him down on his shoulder. They had been walking for about 10 minutes while their stomachs began to growl frequently. Eventually, Charmander stopped walking and looked up at his trainer. Jake took out his bag and began to reach inside, "Alright Charmander, Weedle, I bought some poffin at the pokemart earlier today. But I didn't know I would be catching you, Weedle, so the only poffin I have is red are you okay with that?" Weedle shook his head and Jake gave each pokemon some poffin to eat. He then took out an apple to eat himself. After about 10 minutes of chowing down on their food, Jake spoke up to his two pokemon, "Alright guys, I want to do a little bit of training with each of you, is that okay?" Both pokemon nodded with excitement, "Alright Charmander, I feel that you have enough training as it is. But I want to do is find some pokemon to battle with using Weedle. But stay out in case Weedle gets hurt."
Jake scanned the area, but the only pokemon he could find were pidgey, "Okay guys, I was hoping we could find some Metapod and Kakkuna for Weedle to fight. Their only attacks are harden so it wouldn't be too much of a challenge. But the only thing I could find were pidgey, I don't think it would be a good idea. So how about we call it a night and go into the forest tomorrow morning?" Charmander and Weedle nodded their heads yes. Jake took out a sleeping bag and a rolled it out. He crawled in, Charmander crawled in next to Jake and Weedle slept beside on the pillow, all three of htem, excited for tomorrow.

Robert crawled into his tent after putting out the fire and cleaning his cooking gear. Lilly snuggled up agianst his chest while Juliaslept near his head. His new Caterpie, which he named Light, slept next to Lilly while Krystal perched herself atop the tent. -------------------------------------------
Morning came, and the light of the sun slipped through the tent door. Krystal flew into the tent, being the first one up and began cooing loudly. Robert gave a yawn and sat himself up. After taking a head count to make sure everyone was still there, he slipped out of the tent. Using the powders and mixes, Robert cranked out four pokeblocks for his pokemon's breakfasts, before taking out a crumbcake for his own. After tearing down and packing everything back up with the help of his pokemon, Robert took out the orange cups and set them on rocks, up in the trees and along the ground. "Alright everyone, time for your morning excercises! Julia, hit the cups on that rock with posion needle! Krystal, hit each cup off of the branches with quick attack! Light, hit each cup that falls from the trees with string shot! Lilly, use confusion to lift and juggle the cups on the ground!"
Training went on for about an hour's time, his pokemon gradually getting more accurate with thier attacks, and Lilly becomming better at manipulating things with her psychic atack Confusion.
Once he was ready to go, Robert picked up and put away the cups before recalling his pokemon to thier pokeballs, except for Lilly, who levitated herself up onto his shoulder. "You're getting better with your spychic abilities Lilly." he complimented. Robert hiked through the forest for a bit. Pewter was still a good four hour travel on foot, and there were plenty of wild pokemon to practice on. The kakunas and metapods were the easiest, however attacking pokemon that were unable to fight back went agianst Robert's ethics. He wanted his pokemon to earn thier experience, and using unmovable pokemon like metapods and kakunahs would prove no test of his ability as a trainer. Agianst Weedles, he would use Krystal the Pidgey and Lilly the Ralts. Agianst Caterpies, he would use Light the Caterpie and Julia the Nidoran. Robert ended up in four fights with wild bug pokemon, one for each of his pokemon. Light took the most damage of the four because of the basics of his attacks and slow pace. Lilly and Pidgey had no problems in thier bouts, and Nidoran suffered only minor damage. Robert only needed to use one potion to bring his Caterpie back to full health.
After several minutes more of traveling, Robert saw two pwople blocking the path. Both of which wore the same uniform as the thug he took out before. In fact, one of them was the male that tried to swipe his caterpie from before.
"I underestimated you last time child. This time my partner and I will put you out of business and out of pokemon." The female counterpart grinned. "You were beaten by a child like this? You really are a newbie Kira darling. Go, Raticate!" The thug snarled at his partner. "Don't talk down to me. Beedrill, go!"
Robert spat onto the ground. "Child huh? Allow me to show you what a grandchild of one of the Elite Four is capable of. You picked the wrong person to pester. Krystal, Gust that Beedrill! Light, wrap up that Raticate with String Shot and tackle it!"
"Beedrill, Twin Needle that Caterpie!"
"Raticate, Hyper Fang that bird!"
Beedrill tried to nail Caterpie, but the stroong Gust attack sent it right into its trainer's face. Raticate managed to nail Krystal it Hyper fang, but Caterpie's String shot wrapped around it's feet. When it landed, the Raticate fell face first onto the ground. Caterpie then tackled it into the female rocket grunt. Robert could see that his Pidgey was very badly hurt. "Krystal return! Julia, send these clowns packing with posion sting!" The Nidoran came out at her master's command. Opening her mouth, Julia sent a multitude of tiny poison barbs at the dou and thier pokemon. Both recalled thier pokemon and fled. threatening revenge agianst him. Bringing Krystal back out, Robert used the second of his five potions to heal up his pidgey before returning her to her pokeball. However, before Robert could return Caterpie to his ball, silk began spraying like made from Light, showering the caterpie with it's own silk. When the silk stopped flowing, Robert saw that his Caterpie had evolved into a Metapod. Taking out his pokedex, he pointted it at the Metapod. Metapod, the cacoon pokemon. A steel-hard shell protects its tender body. It quietly endures hardships while awaiting evolution. Light had lost his original ability in place of a new one: Shed Skin. Also, it still had the original two attacks, String Shot and Tackle, but now had leanred the harden move as well. "Finally, my first evolved pokemon." Robert spoke before returning Light to his pokeball. "Lets take a break, then we can travel and train for a bit longer before we get to Pewter and our first gym battle." Robert spoke before sitting himself down on a rock.

Jake was awakened early the next morning by Weedle poking him with his stinger, "Ahh, Weedle! What was that for?" Weedle looked down with watery eyes. "Aw Weedle, were you scared?" Weedle looked up nodding its head, "Weedle!" Jake took Weedle in his hands and held him close, "Oh Weedle, I'm sorry. What's wrong?" Weedle pointed his tail behind Jake. Jake turned around to see a women in a black suit with a large red R on it, holding Charmander by a leash. "Lose something?" She asked in a singsong voice.
Jake sprang to his feet, "Give me back my Charmander you crook!" The grunt laughed at Jake and retorted, "You expect me, Joan, a member of Team Rocket to give you back your weakling Charmander??" Jake looked at his crying pokemon, "Charmander, use metal claw on her!" Charmander tried to focus enough to use the attack, but he couldn't focus with the lease around him. "Hahaha! You don't expect me to be stupid enough to let your charmander attack me, do you? You have underestimated the power of Team Rocket!" Jake set Weedle down on the ground, "Weedle, poison sting!" The Rocket Grunt threw out a pokeball, "Burmy, go and use protect!" A pink burmy came from the pokeball and put a protective shield around him and the grunt. The poison barbs hit the protective shield and fell to the ground. The bagworm pokemon. If its cloak is broken in battle, it quickly remakes the cloak with materials nearby. "Alright Weedle, I know protect is a hard attack to pull off two times in a row, so wait for the shield to go away and the hit Burmy with another poison sting!" Jake shouted, proud of his clever thinking. The protect had vanished and poison barbs shot from Weedle's horn and hit Burmy, causing its cloak to fall off. The burmy began to freak out and ran to a pile of leaves to rebuild the cloak. Jake smiled and spoke again, "Perfect, I was hoping poison sting would do that. Quick, keep using poison sting while the burmy is weak!" Weedle shot more poison barbs at the Burmy, clearly doing a large amount of damage. The rocket grunt showed a look of digust, "You brat! It won't be long before my precious burmy is fainted!" Burmy had finished rebuilding the cloak, this time, he was green. Joan gave another command, "Burmy, use tackle!" Burmy began to charge towards Weedle. "Weedle, use string shot to try and stop Burmy in his tracks!" Weedle began to shoot silk out of his mouth, wraping around the Burmy, making it harder for him to run. Eventually, the Burmy was fully wrapped in silk. Jake smiled, "Alright Weedle, finish him off with a physical poison sting!" Weedle ran towards Burmy, his stinger glowing purple, and hit the Burmy, knocking him back into his trainer. Joan called back her Burmy, "Drats! You little brat! Take your charmander back, but I promise you...this isn't the last you will be seeing of me!" She dropped Charmander's leash and ran off into the forest. Jake ran to Charmander and undid the leash, "Are you okay buddy?" "Char!" Charmander nodded, hugging his trainer. Jake then turned to Weedle to give thanks and was surprised to see that Weedle was spitting a glowing silk into the air, surrounding him in the shape of a cocoon. Jakes jaw dropped, "H-huh? Wait, this is an evolution!" Weedle had finished making his shell, revealing a green Kakuna. The cocoon pokemon. While awaiting evolution, it hides from predators under leaves and in nooks of branches. Current attacks, Poison Sting, String Shot, and Harden. Jake ran and picked up his newly evolved Kakuna, "Kakuna! Thank you so much. You did so good in that battle! And...you evolved! I'm so excited!" He then turned towards his Charmander, "Come on guys, let's go into the forest. We should try to reach pewter city by the end of today." They then walked into Viridian Forest.

Robert stood back up after a good hour's rest. As Robert and Co treked along the long road, they came in contact with a few more wild pokemon. This time, however, these were the evolved forms of Kakuna and Metapod: Beedrills and Butterfrees. In the distance, electricity could be heard, along with the buzzing of several Beedrills. Running over to the sound, he saw a pikachu was being assualted by five beedrills, and from the looks of it, the poor thing was almost done for.
"Julia, posion sting those Beedrill! Krystal, use gust to add more umph to Julia's posion sting!" Robert commanded. Krystal hovered over Julia and flapped her wings vigorously as Julia opened her mouth and let loose with a hail of posioned barbs. Although this drove off the five beedrills, the attention atracted even more beedrills. "This is not looking good." Robert said to himself. "Alright, everyone out! Light, wrap them up with string shot!, Lilly, blast as many as you can with Confusion! Krystal, keep Gusting them! Julia, keep up the posion sting attacks!" As all four worked as hard as they could to fend off the ever growing swarm of beedrill, Robert knelt down and took out an antidote, using it on the wild pikachu. With the posion in its system gone, it was out of immediate danger. But it was still very weak. Taking out a pokeball, Robert tapped the pikachu on the head, catching it without a struggle. Once the light indicated pikachu was caught, he called pikachu out of the ball and used his third potion on it. Meanwhile, the swarms began to wane in number as Robert's pokemon kept them at bay, fainting several. However, his pokemon were reaching thier limits. Robert used his pokedex to see what his new friend could do. Pikachu, the mouse pokemon. When several of these pokemon gather, thier electricity could build and cause lightning storms The Pikachu was female with the Static ability. He knew Growl, Tail Whip, Thunder Shock and Thunder Wave. "Alright buddy, it's time you showed those beedrill to give you more respect. Hit them with thunder shock!" Building up electricity in her cheeks, the Pikachu let loose a strong bolt of electricity at the remaining beedrill. Robert breathed a sigh of relief as the beedrill finally left. All but the newest member of Robert's team were exhausted from having used thier moves so much in such a continuous manner. Robert gathered everyone around. "Alright, I'm going to name you Sable. Sable, these are my friends and your fellow team mates: Julia, Lilly, Light and Krystal." Robert took out the pokeballs and returned everyone to them. Well, almost everyone. Lilly remained outside where she normally was. Sable had no desire to get back in her pokeball. Looking at the pokedex, he looked up further information on pikachu Pikachus normally do not like being confined inside a pokeball or other small spaces Robert chuckled a little. "Well then, looks like you and Lilly are going to be travelling outside your pokeballs for the remainer of our journey." Robert mused. "Now then, let's get out of the forest and rest for a little bit. We can continue training when everyone's good and rested. I want to at the very least get Metapod to evolve into a Butterfree before we take on Pewter Gym." With that, Robert and Co made thier way out of the forest and took a nice hour long rest. Getting all of th epokemon out of his pokeballs and taking out the pokebase and berry powder, Robert made five pokeblocks for his friends. Taking out a bag of trail mix, Robert began to enjoy a bit of a lunch for himself as well.

Charmander and Jake, with the newly evolved Kakuna in his hands, walked through the forest. Jake began to think out loud, "Okay, so Brock is a rock type gym leader. Rock type's weaknesses are ground, steel, grass, and water. I don't really have any pokemon of those types. Charmander does know the metal claw attack, but he's weak against rock. Kakuna is bug, so he will be weak to rock types. I suppose if I want to defeat brock, my best bet would be to find a grass or water type. I don't think steel and ground types would be common in the forest. Okay guys, lets get going." Jake scanned the area looking for pokemon to train against. All he could find were caterpie, weedle, metapod, and kakuna; Jake thought that it was a bit unfair to put his Charmander against those pokemon. He decided that Kakuna was deserving of a rest after his battle earlier that day. Finally, Jake spotted a pokemon he seemed fit to battle his Charmander, "ohh, a pidgey. We can handle that, right Charmander?" Charmander nodded. Jake held his pokedex up to the bird, "Pidgeotto, the bird pokemon. It flies over its wide territory in search of prey, downing it with its highly developed claws." Jake shook his head in disbelief, "Ohh, a Pidgeotto. Even better. Charmander, now is our time to prove that we can handle flying types as well." "Char!"
Pidgeotto turned his head to the Kakuna in Jake's arms. Pidgeotto kicked itself off the ground and flew towards Kakuna. Jake turned, allowing Pidgeotto to hit his back rather than Kakuna, "Quick Charmander, use Metal Claw!" Charmander extended his claws and made them metal, swinging at the Pidgeotto, but missing as it flew high into the air. Pidgeotto rapidly flapped its wings, shooting a tornado towards Charmander. "I know this attack Charmander, its called twister. Stand still and start charging up another Metal Claw." Charmander stood still, focusing all his power on his nails. The twister was rushing towards Charmander. "Hold it, Charmander. Hold it! Now! Use metal claw on the twister!" Charmander struck the twister with his nails, breaking the twister, but still taking some damage. Pidgeotto flew straight towards the ground, and pulled up at a 90 degree angle at the last second, hitting Charmander full force with an arial ace. Charmander fell back and hit a bush, causing a few oran berries to fall into his lap. "Charmander, eat an oran berry and then use ember!" Charmander stuffed the berries in his mouth, swallowed, and then spat an ember straight at the Pidgeotto. Pidgeotto took a ddecent amount of damage, stab was on Charmanders side. Pidgeotto then lunged at Charmander with a quick attack. Charmander fought the attack as best as he could, managing to only be pushed a few steps back. "Charmander, while Pidgeotto is in close range, use scratch!" Charmander extended his nails and then struck Pidgeotto in the face with scratch. Pidgeotto fell to the ground, fainted. "Charmander! We did it!" Jake's pokedex then beeped and began to speak, "Charmander has learned a new attack, smokescreen." Jake watched as Charmander demonstrated his new attack, "Smokescreen, huh? That attack can prove to be very useful in our gym battle."

After a much needed rest, Robert headed back into the forest. Finding a Caterpie, Robert sent out Light for the battle. With all of the hard work he did agianst the beedrill swarm, Robert figured it wouldn't take much more to evolve his friend. "Light, use String Shot and then hit it with tackle!" Although the string shot hit without a hitch, it seemed to move a bit too slowly to be able to tackle. Instead, the back of the cocoon started to crack open, and the metapod cocoon shattered into pieces. In its place was a Buterfree. Butterfree lunged then at top speed and nailed the caterpie head-on, sending it flying into a tree. Robert smiled at this new evolution. Butterfree. The butterfly pokemon. It loves the honey of flowers and can locate flower patches that have even the tiniest amount of pollen Checking the pokedex, he saw that it had lost it's Shed Skin in exchange for Compound Eyes, and gained confusion attack, plus sleep powder, stun spore and poison powder. Now he had two pokemon with psychic type attacks, and a means to truly create chaos in battle. But in learning these moves, it lost its tackle and string shot attacks. For Robert, this was fine. Tackle was only a very basic atack, and string shot was nothing compared to the powder variety attacks.
Walking into town, Robert decided to do a bit of shopping. He wanted to get a few different berry powders for his pokemon food and pokeblocks. As he made hi way there, he could overhear a very strange conversation.
"Officer Jenny, you've stolen my heart and now I'm going to have to make a citizen's arrest for love larceny!"
As Robert looked down street, he could see a man with squinty eyes getting struck in the back and dragged towards the Pewter Gym by a Croagunk. Following behind him was another guy in his late teens.
"Brock, we are trying to find out about the robbery, not try and find you a date."
"Pikapi."
Robert blinked a bit. That was Brock? "I hope he's a better gym leader than he is a ladies man." Robert said to himself. Lilly nodded her head while Sable perked her ears and went running off towards the other pikachu. The other pikachu blinked as it looked at the approaching Sable, then jumped off of the other trainer's shoulder.
Robert ran after Sable before catching up to the group. "I'm sorry. Sable just ran off on her own." He spoke to the duo.
"It's no worry. It looks like your pikachu is just looking for new friends." the other trainer replied. "I'm Ash. Who might you be?"
Robert blionked a bit before remembering what Professor Oak told him. "Ah yes. Professor Oak told me about you. My name is Robert, I'm a trainer from Hoenn. My Pikachu there is Sable, and my Ralts here is Lilly."
Ash smiled to Robert and held out his hand in greeting. "Nice to meet you. So what brings you to Pewter City?" Ash asked. Robert looked to Brock and then to Ash. "Well two things. First, to challenge the Pewter City Gym leader, and secondly, I was advised by the professor to see you about a specific pokemon that I saw on my way to Kanto."
Ash blinked a bit. "Me? Why?"
"Because he said you had seen something similar on your travels. I'm just curious as to what it was. It flew through the sky, and it's body was rather smooth. it looked like it had a long neck. Primarily white with a red rear half and a red 'D' like shape on its chest." Robert explained
Ash and Brock thought for a moment before Ash finally remembered his own trip to Hoenn and the water race with Misty. "Was it headed towards here? To Kanto." Robert gave a nod. "Well, I know exactly what you saw. I'm not sure if it's the same one I met, but what you saw was a Latias. I met one when I was in Hoenn several years ago."
Brock laughed a bit. "I think Misty will get jealous if it is the same one." he mused before looking to Robert. "I'm the gym leader here. At least as long as I stay in Pewter. Any other time, my father Flint is in charge of the gym. But right now my pokemon are recovering from my last gym challenge. If you'd like, you can stay with us and we can have our battle tomarrow."
Robert smiled and gave a simple nod. "That sounds fine by me."
With that the trio headed to the house next to Pewter Gym.

Jake, Charmander, and Kakuna continued their journey through Viridian Forest. Jake took at look at his pokedex's GPS system and saw that they were about half way to Pewter City. Jake heard a rustling sound behind him, he turned to see nothing but some oran bushes. "That's odd," Jake thought, "I could have sworn I heard someone behind me." Jake whispered to his Kakuna, "Use poison sting on that bush over there." Kakuna nodded and shot several poison parbs at the bush. "Owww! What was that for?" A small little boy with a bug catching net jumped from the bush, "Its called manners!" Jake got frustrated at this little kid's stupidity, "Hey! I did that because you were following me like a little creep. Stalking people isn't good manners at all! Now speak up and tell me what it is you want from me!"
The little boy fell to his knees and cried, "I'm sorry, its just that I'm scared. Earlier today and ran into some goons called Team Rocket. They threatened to steal my Nincada. I saw you total that pidgeotto with your Charmander and figured if I stayed near you, I'd be safe!"
Jake felt a little bad for snapping at the kid, "Oh okay...sorry for yelling at you. Its just...if you wanted a body guard, you could have just asked me."
The little boy stopped crying, "Yeah, I guess you're right. I can just be a little shy. Name is Tommy, by the way."
Jake, a little surprised at Tommy's quick change in mood, held out a hand and shook it with Tommy's. "Yeah okay. So...I'm on my way to Pewter, so I hope you're headed in the same direction."
Tommy nodded his head, "Yeah. Yeah I am. My house is there. Thank you by the way."
"Yeah no prob..." Jakes attention was lost when he caught sight of a grass type pokemon, "Perfect! If I catch that pokemon I will have a grass type for the gym! Kakuna, I'm going to let you take this battle but stay on your toes in case we need help, Charmander."
Tommy jumped with excitement, "Wow, I've never seen a real pokemon trainer battle. This will be awesome!"
Jake held his pokedex up to the pokemon, "Oddish, the Weed Pokemon. It often plants its root feet in the ground during the day and sows seeds as it walks about at night." Jake studied the pokemon, trying to figure out the best way to approach it he then turned towards Kakuna, "Kakuna, use harden. I'm going to throw you at the oddish so you can hit it with poison sting." Kakuna's shell grew harder and shone as it strengthened. Jake then lunged Kakuna at the direction of the oddish. Oddish turned around, knowing that it was about to enter battle. Her first move, was to plant its roots into the ground. Jake studied the attack, "It must be ingrain. the pokemon plants its roots into the ground, absorbing nutrients which is turned into health. Smart choice, I must admit. Kakuna, poison sting!" Oddish then matched Kakuna's poison sting with by shooting a puddle of acid, knocking the barbs to the ground. Oddish then focused her energy, turning her eyes a glowing green color. Then, green bubbles began to emit from Kakuna and where then absorbed in her body. "Ahh, an absorb attack. Use Harden to increase your resistance to the attack!" Kakuna's shell then hardened. Oddish, seeing as absorb wasn't too affective, bowed down and sprayed a sparkling powder at Kakuna, causing him to fall asleep. "Ahh! Kakuna, come on you've got to wake up! I guess I've just got to wait this one out." Oddish then used absorb on Kakuna. Jake thought out loud, "Ahh, this will be a long battle. With oddish gaining health from both ingrain and absorb, all the damage I have done is being erased." Getting a little frustrated, Jake commanded his Kakuna again, "Come on Kakuna, our gym battle depends on you at this moment. I need you to pull through for our boulder badge's sake!" At that, Kakuna's eyes opened in a flash, he rocked backward, then forward, pushing himself high into the air. "Look out Kakuna! Your lunging yourself straight into that branch!" Kakuna, ignoring Jake's orders, kept soaring to the sharp branch above allowing it to scratch his shell open. Kakuna fell to the ground and a bright light began to shine from the crack. "Huh? Evolving already?" Kakuna's shell opened more and more and a much larger, green Beedrill flew from the shell.
The pokedex spoke up, "Beedrill attack update. Current attacks are Fury Attack, Twinneedle, Poison Sting, and Focus Energy." Jake, remembering he had a battle at the moment, went back to commanding his Beedrill, "Beedrill, hury andd use twinneedle!" Beedrill dove in to the rooted Oddish and punched her with his stingers, alternating from left to right. Oddish was knocked back in pain, she attempted to spray Beedrill with another sleep powder, but Beedrill flew to the side and dodged. "Now, focus energy and then dive in with a physical poison sting!" Beedrill paused for a few seconds, focusing his energy on his stingers. He then dove in and struck the Oddish with his right stinger, which was drenched with poison. "Awesome a critical hit! Pokeball!" Jake threw a pokeball at the Oddish. It rocked back and forth a few times and then beeped as the red light turned to white.
Tommy leaped with Joy, "Awesome! You caught it!" Jake ran and picked up the pokeball, "Oddish, go!" Oddish emitted from the pokeball, looking a little weak. Jake fed her some oran berries from a nearby bush and healed her back to health. Tommy spoke up at this, "you know, you really should be a little more careful on feeding your pokemon wild berries. they could be poisonous."
Jake jumped up with concern, "R-really?! Aw man! I'm sorry Oddish!" Tommy laughed a little, "Don't worry, the only berries you will find in this forest are oran berries. But in different areas of Kanto, you should be a bit more careful." Jake took a sigh of relief, thanked Tommy for the advice, and continued to Pewter City.

Robert walked into Brock's house. To his amazement, the house was practically crowded with siblings, along with Brock's father Flint and his wife. "Dad, I've brought over some guests." Brock called out. Flint came out and offered a smile to the small group. "Ah, welcome to my humble home. Ash, it's good to see you agian. And who might you be young man?" Flint asked.
"My name is Robert. It's a pleasure to meet you." Robert said. "Same here. It's good to see my son making new friends. So Robert, what brings you here to Pewter?" Flint asked. "I'm entering the Indigo league, so I came to battle with Brock for the Boulder Badge. But I'm in no rush, and it seems like the three of us have at least one or two things in common." Robert said before looking back to Ash and Brock. "Well then, I'm going to start dinner, so just make yourself at home." Brock said before heading into the kitchen.
"Man, you haven't lived until you've had Brock's cooking. He can make a tasty meal out of anything. During our travels, he always made sure we were never hungry, and he makes all of his own pokemon food." Ash spoke as he sat down. Robert took a seat on the couch while the two pikachues played around and played with the children. "Sounds impressive. I'll have to ask him about pokemon food. I can make basic stuff, and my pokemon like it well enough, but I want to be able to make some real quality food." Robert replied.
After dinner was finished, Robert, Brock and Ash entered into the gym. The ground of the arena certainly fit a rock-type gym: boulders and stone mounds everywhere. "Come tomarrow, this is where we will have our battle." Brock said. Ash went over onto the field. "Well, how about we have a battle now? I'd like to see how good you are before you take on Brock. And I haven't had a battle in a while." Ash said. Robert smiled and stepped onto the field. "Sounds good. I could use more experience to hone my skills as well as toughen up my pokemon."
"How does three on three sound?" Ash asked. "Sounds good to me." Robert replied before taking out one of his pokeballs and enlarging it to normal size.
Brock took his place outside and center of the gym. "The battle between Ash and Robert will begin. This battle is three on three. Both sides may make substitutions. begin!"
"Alright Pikachu, let's go!" Ash said, sending Pikachu out onto the field.
Alright, Krystal and Light aren't going to last long agianst an electric type, and his Pikachu is probably more experienced than mine. That leaves Julia and Lilly. Robertgave a nod to Lilly. "Alright Lilly, let's do this!" With that, Lilly took to the field.
"Pikachu, Volt Tackle!" Pikachu began to race with extreame speed towards Lilly, electricity flowing around it. "Lilly, stop him in his tracks with confusion!" Lilly used confusion, tossing Pikachu away from her, but not before a few strands of electricity struck her, paralysing her and doing a sizable amount of damage.
"Now Pikachu, thuinder bolt!" Pikachu sent a thunderous attack straight for Lilly. "Lilly, Confusion on the thunderbolt! Try to send it into the ground!" Lilly's confusion attack connected with the thunderbolt and forcefully arced it into the ground, causing debris to fly in all directions. Robert stepped in front of Lilly and braced himself, shielding her from the flying debris while Ash protected Pikachu. When the smoke settled, Robert got back behind Lilly. "Now, use confusion on the debis and toss it all at Pikachu!" Using her power as best as she could, she hurled several small chucnks of stone at Pikachu.
"Pikachu, jump over it and use Iron Tail!" Ash called out. The stones passed underneath, but one hit pikachu in the foot, tossing it off balance. "Lilly, dodge and hit Pikachu with confision!" Robert called. However, Lilly was paralysed, unable to do anything. Although pikachu was knocked a bit off course frpom being hit by a stone, its Iron Tail slammed hard into the ground right in front of Lilly, hitting Lilly with the debris and hard. But not without recoil it seemed, because as Pikachu landed on its feet, the injury to its foot caused it to flinch. With Lilly fainted, Robert had to choose quickly to take advantage of Pikachu's injury. "Julia, Double Kick now!" Robert calle dout as he sent Julia out of her pokeball while Lilly, after regaining conciousness, went back to her master's side. As pikechu looked up, Robert's Nidoran was already on top of it, her hind feet slaming Pikachu hard and sending it flying at Ash. Ash caught his now fainted Pikachu. So far, the battle was even, both had taken out the other's first pokemon.
"Sceptile, go! Bullet Seed!" Ash tossed his pokeball, sending out his Sceptile. Opening its mouth, Sceptile launched a barrage of grass energy seeds at Julia. "Julia, remember your training. Hit those seeds with Posion Sting!" Julia countered, opening her mouth and releasing a hail of posionous barbs. The attacks collided, with several posion needles and bullet seeds finding thier marks. However, the efects were much different. Being Posion typed, Julia had strong defenses agianst grass type pokemon, whileAsh's grass type was weak to posion typed attacks. What's more, those barbs inflicted a posioned status on Sceptile. However, Sceptile was quite strong, and it would take more than that attack to take it down.
"Sceptile, Leaf Blade!" Ash called out. being the faster of the two, Sceptile was just about on top of Julia with Leaf Blade ready. "Julia, counter with Double Kick!" Robert called out. Julia jumped upwards and interceptedthe leaf blade with her feet, but Sceptile spun around and nailed Julia with the back end of the leaf blade attack. Julia passed out while Sceptile began to get a bit woozy from the posion. Robert recalled Julia into her pokeball before taking out his final choice. "It's all or nothing. Light, use Sleep Powder!" Robert called out, sending out his Butterfree. Light dusted Sceptile with a multitude of spores, putting it into a deep sleep. And with the posion continuing to chip away at Sceptile's health, Ash knew Sceptile was in trouble. "Now, hit Sceptile with Confusion!" Robert commanded. As Light's eyes lit up, psychic energies ripped through Sceptile's mind. With the combination of sleep, posion and now a psychic attack, Sceptile went from sleeping to fainted.
"Alright, this is getting good! Sceptile, return. Go, Staraptor!" The large bird pokemon came soaring out. This was trouble, and Robert knew it. However, he wasn't one to give up so easily. "Light, use Confusion, and then follow up with sleep powder!" Light sent psychic energies ripping through Staraptor's head, but the bird wasn't exactly weak to such an attack. "Staraptor, Whirlwind the sleep powder away and thenuse Areal Ace!". Light's sleep powder was sent right back at Light, causing it to fall asleep, and then the Areal Ace KO'd the sleeping Butterfree. "Butterfree is unable to battle. Ash wins!" Brock called out. Robert picked up Lilly in his arms and smiled to her. "You all did a great job. I'm proud of you all, even though we lost."
Ash approached Robert and held out his hand. "That was a great battle." Brock chuckled lightly. "I'm impressed too. Those pokemon weren't you used aren't as powerful as Ash's, yet you used them quite effectively and gave Ash a run for his money. I think tomarrow's match will be interesting." Brock spoke. Robert shook Ash's hand. "Well, I'd better get these three to the pokemon center and give them a much needed recharge and get ready for our battle tomarrow."
"I'll come with you. I need to pick up my pokemon from the center also." Brock replied
Ash sighed a bit. "And hit on Nurse Joy." he muttered.

After a long afternoon, Jake and Tommy exited Viridian Forest, just before Sundown. As they entered Pewter City, Tommy pointed to a house next to the Pokecenter, "There that's my house! Thank you so much, Jake!" Tommy took off for the house, leaving Jake and his pokemon alone. Jake looked down at his exhausted pokemon and spoke to them, alright guys, you all worked hard today. Let's stop at the Center and get all healed up. Then I'll take us out to dinner.
Jake walked up to the Center's front desk where he was greeted by Nurse Joy, "Hello! How may I help you?" Jake returned his pokemon and handed the pokeballs to Joy, "We just got out of Viridian Forest, I wanted to get a checkup before dinner." Nurse Joy took his pokeballs and placed them in a machine, "Okay, it should be a minute or two. So just wait right here." Jake turned around to walk to the waiting chairs when he saw Robert walk into the center with two other guys. Jake figured he would let Robert give Joy his pokemon before he went to talk to him. He didn't want to put his pokemon's health at stake.

Robert saw Jake at the pokemon center. Robert gave all of his pokemon to Nurse Joy for some much deserved R&R and healing to the three that needed it most. Robert then walked up to Jake. "Jake, good to see you made it through the forest." He spoke before motioning at the two behind him. Well...one behind his. The other had ran over to hit on Nurse Joy. "This is Ash, and..." Looking around, Robert saw Crogunk dragging Brock back towards the group. "...mister romantic over there is Brock, the Gym Leader of Pewter. Were you able to catch any new pokemon?" he asked.

Danny stood on the long hill that led up to the ranch and home of the great Professor Oak.
It had been a long time coming, but Danny was finally going to get his first pokemon. He had gone a long time, studying and learning how to treat and take care of pokemon back home, and now it was time to set off.
His mother, the leading officer Jenny of the Vermilion region of Kanto, taught him well and made sure he got to Pallet Town safely. She had left for home already, and he was all set to see the good professor.
He redadjusted the straps on his backpack and made his way up the hill, getting excited for the starter pokemon he was going to receive. He had already decided to go with Bulbasaur, so he didn't waste time at the ranch.
He walked up to the doorstep and rang the bell. Danny waited for a few minutes before hearing the door open. Standing in the doorway was another teenager, who had a red headband. "Yes, can I help you?" he asked. "I am here to see Professor Oak, I am picking up my first pokemon." Danny said, looking past the teenager standing in the doorway.
"Are you Danny?" he asked. Danny nodded. "Yes I am. I just got here."
"My name is Tracy, I am Professor Oak's assistant, please come in. Professor Oak is waiting for you."
Tracy led Danny to the back where Professor Oak was facing a computer, and next to him was a table with two poke balls. "Professor Oak, Danny has just arrived."
Oak turned in his chair and smiled. "Ah Danny, good to see you. I just got off the video phone with your mother who informed me of your arrival. Here to get your first pokemon? So very exciting. Now, on the table are your available choices, Bulbasaur and Squirtle. Would you like to see them?"
Danny shook his head. "No thank you sir, that is not necessary. I have decided on Bulbasaur." Oak smiled, and picked up the poke ball with a leaf symbol on it. He opened the latch and the small grass Pokemon appeared in front of Danny.
He smiled at it, and waved. The Bulbasaur cocked it's head in confusion, but than slowly came forward sniffing, and walked up to Danny, who proceeded to pat it's head. The Bulbasaur smiled and pranced around Danny. "Well, it seems he has taken a liking to you. Good choice. Now, here is your poke dex and four extra poke balls."
Danny looked at them. "Four? Aren't I allowed to carry six pokemon?" Oak smiled and nodded, and handed him the sixth poke ball. "This just came for you."
Danny, looking at it funny, resized it and threw it up into the air, releasing a baby Growlithe. "This is a present from your mother for starting your journey. She figured you would like it."
The Growlithe ran forward and licked Danny's face, and said hello to the Bulbasaur.
"What a great starting point Danny, now train hard and achieve much." Danny returned both pokemon and nodded. "Thank you Professor Oak, for everything." "You are very welcome. Now remember, catch as many pokemon as you would like, and the extra will reside here with me, and just call me to switch."
Danny nodded, and waved goodbye to both Tracy and Professor Oak. Now he was on his way, entering Route 1 from the Pallet Town border.

((King Robert: I probably didn't make it clear enough, but as soon as I got to Pewter, Tommy ran to his house. No worries though.))
Jake turned to Ash and Brock, "Nice to meet you two. Hey Ash, you live in Pallet, right? I think I used to see you around there when I was younger." Ash nodded, "Yeah, my mom is Delia, have you met her?" Jake shook his head yes and turned his attention to Brock, "So Brock, its very nice to meet you." Brock smiled, "Yes, nice to meet you too. Are you here to battle me like your friend Robert?" "Yeah, but not tomorrow, I've still got a little training to do tonight," Jake replied. Brock spoke again, "Okay good, because I already promised Robert for a battle tomorrow." Jake nodded at Brock and finally spoke to Robert, "Yeah, good to see you made it through the forest as well. How long ago did you arrive? And yeah, I was able to catch new pokemon. I caught a Weedle, who has evolved twice and is now a Beedrill, and an Oddish. Beedrill is really strong. I haven't really battled with Oddish yet, but she has some useful battle moves. How is your team coming along?"
