(*giggle* Having Chloe and Miggy as role models. Dear gawd. xd )
Cody turned, eyes rather surprised, as his sister trotted calmly to one of the almost-bare cabinets and pulled down a bottle of scotch along with a glass. "You're not s'posed to touch that, Nikki." He commented, though he made no move to 'tattle.' "You don't drink."
"Nope." Nikki started to pour, then stopped, glancing back. "On the rocks?"
Shaking his head, Cody turned back to Neme with a quirky half-smile. "Not quite as strong as my brothers." He admitted with a rare flash of honesty. "I'm better with speed."
------------------
Chloe laughed and carefully hooked the belt around her friend's waist, grinning. "They are cool." She agreed. "I think it looks good on you. What're you going as for halloween?"

"Nah, s'fer th' weak, ah take meh fire-wah'er werm."
Her small grin faded, tiny fangs dissapearing as she regarded Cody seriously.
"Nah whuh Ah mehn.' Canna beh strahn' less yeh know yer stren's. Yer fas' n' prolly clevah, an' tha'll make yeh strah'er thin 'em."

Sjajan's face darkened and she scowled.
"Neme's bein' mean an' she 'n Radee decided I gotsa go as a angel or a teddy bear. I dun wanna!!"

Chloe's eyes lit up, and an almost evil look of delight came over her face. "An angel?" She echoed, grinning slowly. "You sure she just said 'an angel?' Not a specific type?" She definitely had something up her sleeve here.
--------------------
Now Cody got it, and the look on his face said he agreed completely. "That's basically Mom's favorite lesson." He grinned. "And mine. She insists we balance all of it as much as we can - "
"But she also tries to make sure we follow our strengths when we have them." Nikki finished, smiling as she handed Neme her now-full glass. She seemed to have taken a liking to the green-haired teen as well. "It's one of the reasons Mom lets me stay with the kids so much - I like teaching 'em, and I'm good at it. Cody's good with pranks."

Sjajan actually took a step back, staring up at Chloe, almost afraid.
"Y-yeah... Jus' an Angel... Why...?"
----
Satisfied, Neme lifted her glass and drained half of it in one swallow, liking the burning feeling in her throat. Luckily, she was used to it, so she didn't embarass herself by gasping or choking the stuff back up. Nodding briefly at Cody, almost as if dismissing him from her converstation, she eyed Nikki.
"Fer'geh' tha,' yeh shuh geh ow'sye, mee' peep'l 'er summan. Ah'll show yeh 'bou' summtum."

Chloe grinned and hugged her friend, face transforming from slightly evil to childlike happy in seconds. "Well, there are lots of angels." She explained, unable to stop grinning. "Like Celestials. And boy, if you were dressed like a Bounty Celestial . . . you'd look awesome. Like a flying Amazon."
--------------------------------------
Nikki leaned back against the counter, rather impressed at Neme's ability to drink the scotch without spitting it back out. "I tend to go out more in Illuzen than here." She admitted, eyes flicking briefly to the ground. One hand almost came up to touch her face, but she stopped herself. "I don't like - being stared at."
Cody grinned, quite pleased with the turn of events, and casually saluted Neme before scooping up Yael and Zar. "Come on, you two, let's find some apple juice. You guys like apple juice, right?"

"REALLY? I like 'Zons! You'd help me?"
Jani's face was glowing, impressed with her friend's ability to find a way around Sjajan's older siblings' rules. And plus, Amazons WERE really cool.
---
"Ach."
Neme's face darkened at Nikki's words and expressions, a brief sneer touching her mouth as she polished off her glass and slammed it down onto the table. Why didn't Nemetona Reever like people? Beacause of things like this. She hated that people like Nikki had to deal with stares and whispers on the streets.
"Ahs eef 'ey aren' morh fuhk'd uhp onuh een'sigh!"
Green eyes flashed, and the green tattoos all over her body grew briefly, not something unusual to her family, since it happened whenever she got angry. Still, she glanced at the younger kids and cleared her throat, nodding toward the door.
"Show meh yer yar'?"
Maybe outside, or, just in a different room, would be better.

"Hell yes." Chloe grinned, ruffling Jani's hair, and gestured for her friend to follow her upstairs. "Mom's got a couple of temporary wing tattoos - we can give you the real, flyable deal, feather style and whatever color ya want. And we'll have to find ya a sword belt or something. Plus, your mom can't complain, 'cause she said you had to be an angel." Though why anyone would chose to dress up as a boring regular angel, Chloe would never know.
-----------------------------------------
Nikki nodded, eyes slightly wide, and Cody grinned appreciatively at Neme. This girl was definitely tough - more like Chloe and his aunt Shiloh's friends than anything. As far as he was concerned, it was all to the good. "I'll watch out for the squirts." He offered cheerfully, settling Yael in a high-chair and peering around for a booster seat for Zar. Like most of Rune's kids, he was rather comfortable dealing with babies and toddlers, even if he may not like it. "Hey, Ni, maybe you could show her the Oonikos."
"Do you like dragons?" Nikki asked, leading the way toward a glass-paned door that appeared to lead outside. She was smiling, relaxed.

"We choose costume now, an' you help me dress on halloween?"
Jani hurried after her older friend, a huge grin on her face. She'd missed Chloe a lot, and this was one of the reasons why.
"Do I get a weapon?"
--------
"Neh."
Neme's basic response to any question that asked her feelings on something. Those who knew her well wouldn't ask such a thing, since she'd never said she'd liked something in her life. The only "dragon" she knew was Tewi'Xilak, and she didn't like the thing because it thought Neme was it's mother.
---
Yael kicked her feet, humming to herself and looking around the kitchen eagerly while Zar called her names from afar, she didn't care because she couldn't hear, and eventually the boy gave up and simply glared.

Chloe twisted to look at her friend from behind, surprised. "You mean you don't have one already?" She asked, slowing down slightly so Jani could keep up. "Man, I gotta get you something for your birthday. No girl of mine runs around without a way to defend herself good and proper." Sidestepping a stack of boxes, she thought for a moment. "I dunno, do you like knives or guns better?"
----------------------------------
Nikki laughed, leading the way across a decently trimmed lawn to the edge of a paddock. Leaning her elbows on the fence, she raised an eyebrow over her shoulder. "You really think people are futzed up on the inside?" She didn't usually swear, being around the kids as much as she was.
----------------------------------
"Hey, squirt, no making fun of your sister like that." Cody ruffled Zar's hair, picking the little boy up and settling him in a booster seat. "You're her big brother - that means ya gotta take care of her and kick butt on anyone who tries to hurt her. It's what brothers do." Pulling open the fridge, he rummaged around for a few seconds before pulling out a pair of juice boxes and turning to face the children again. Just like Nikki, he'd picked up on Yael watching people's mouths, so he made a point to look at them as he spoke. "You can tease her, but remember - she's always gonna be there for you, just like Jani. And Yael, ya gotta be nice to Zar, too."
(Dear gawd, Chloe offering toddlers weapons and Cody giving sibling advice. *plays the "end of the world" music* xd But I love Yael.)

Jani was wide-eyed at the choices and gripped Chloe's shirt in one hand as they walked, shaking her head.
"I dunno, allz I gots isa slingshot..."
----
Neme sneered, a fang glinting in the light, and flicked green hair from her eyes, glaring across the lawn.
"Aye, 'air fuhk'd up. Mos' arr."
The teen wasn't very enthusiastic about people in general, though she was willing to admit there were exceptions to every rule.
----
Oh, Yael understood Cody alright, but was she about to listen? Of course not. What were big brothers for? Making fun of. Everyone knew that. The little girl giggled and stuck her tounge out at Zar, eyes sparkling. The older baby looked rather indignant and jabbed a finger toward her in the air.
"Loo'! Shee do et 'gain!"

"Well, we'll start you off with some kunai then." Chloe grinned reassuringly down at the toddler, apparently oblivious to the fact that most children weren't usually given weapons. Stopping at a doorway pasted with cat and teddy-bear stickers, she opened the door and stepped casually inside. "Hey, Kiri, where'd Mom put our little kid knives after we out grew them?"
The room wasn't quite as cramped as downstairs - possibly because it was as big as a master bedroom, and quite a few of the boxes downstairs belonged here - but it was still obviously a little crowded for the four beds and two dressers lined up inside. All the beds were covered in different personal items to varying degrees. Chloe's, at the end and made obvious by the knives and extra arm sheath hanging off the end of the bedframe, was piled with a jumble of sheets, weapons / anime magazines and unfolded clothes slipping off the sides. The one next to it was slightly cleaner, clothes and books stacked in rows that took over the mattress. A third was almost entirely clean, all the clothes well-organized save a bowtie hanging from the top of one post. The fourth bed was almost as bad as Chloe's, though it looked like it had four times as many clothes. All three of her sisters were inside as well. Rose - on the bed full of books - was translating a manuscript into a new notebook, her glasses slipping slightly down her face. Kirika sat on the bow-tie bed, a gun in pieces around her as she took it apart and put it back together. And Mirelle? The blond stood barefooted beside the fourth bed, clad only in black leather pants and a bra.
"What're you talking about, Chloe? You're still a little kid." Mirelle turned and grinned teasingly over her shoulder at Jani and her sister. "Hi, Jani, isn't it?" She held up a pair of rather clingy middriff shirts, one red, the other dusty blue. "Which one, do you think?"
---------------------------------
Nikki grinned and nodded. "A lot of them are." She agreed, whistling. A large creature that resembled a gryphon raised its head and trotted over to them, thick talons making indents in the grass. "Want to feed him? He's a brute."
------------------------------------------
Cody glanced over his shoulder, quick enough to catch the barest sight of Yael's tongue. He grinned at her in spite of himself, handing Zar his juice first. "Yeah, well, don't worry about it. Wait til you're old enough to spar - then you can drum some sense into her fat head." He shrugged, apparently unconcerned.

Jani took her time, wandering around the room, fingering objects like that bowtie. It reminded her of the one she had at home, actually. The young girl watched Kirika curiously for a moment before turning her gaze to Rose, then finally back to the topless blonde. Her charming grin touched her lips as she looked up at the older girl and gave her a nod, affirming the name.
"Red."
-----------
Neme made a face and opened her mouth to speak when a slow look of open horror appeared on her face, followed quickly by resignated dissapointment. A small dragon, about to Nikki's knee in height, landed on the fence, hissing at the gryphon-like creature as it folded it's wings and turned into... A small girl, still the same height, who had wings and reptillian eyes. The cute girl lept from the fence, attaching herself to Neme's shirt and giving Neme an even wider grin than Jani's usually was.
"MAMA! Tewi find you! Shlak anti roquz?"
Neme's face darkened and she growled, trying to pry off the small creature without success. Tewi'Xilak could speak 37 languages, and off them, English was the one she hated the most. However, she could speak fluent Sakti, Nemetona's native language.
---------
Yael took her juice from Cody with eager hands, giggling even though she knew they were probably saying not too pleasant things about her. Instead, the babe squirted the juice at Cody's face, laughter like glass falling to the floor. Musical. One of the few sounds the girl could hear. Yael-Krie loved laughter.

(*sighs and grumbles* I swear, nobody tells me I gotta go stay at my Grandma's for two days because she has to have cataract surgery. Would've been nice to know, I have no comp now. *pokes the Tenjutsu up to about 2pm on Friday, shoots self* Hee hee, I LOVE the animation in your sig!)
Mirelle grinned down at Jani and slipped into the red top, nodding. "She's got a sense of style - what, Mom won't let you give her one of our old pieces?" She nodded toward the black .45 holstered with its safety on beside her bed. "Bet Aunt Shiloh has one."
"Bet Mom would shoot us if we did." Rose remarked without looking up, nudging her glasses with one finger before scrawling another rather neat line on her sheet. "There's a box that was under my bed - "
" - in the closet, under the stack of blankets Chloe dumped in there." Kirika interjected serenely, holding the slidebolt of her own sidearm in one hand as she glanced up. "Go ahead and grab it out, Jani, I bet there's something in there you'll like."
-----------------------------------------------------
Nikki bit her lip, eyes bright with laughter as she watched the scene. The creature - Founder - snorted and flicked a fan-like tail much the way a horse would, eyeing the little girl with an expression almost as though he wanted to take a bite out of her hissing hide. Nikki flicked a hand sharply at him, then grinned and asked innocently, "And who might this be?"
-----------------------------------
Caught unawares by the spray, Cody sputtered for a moment before bursting into laughter himself, cracking up as he wiped the thin golden-brown liquid from his eyes. "Somehow, I think you make fun of everything, don't you?" He chucked Yael's chin with a grin, conjuring a water balloon that hung over the baby's head. "What'cha think, Zar? Want to play?"
