Unfortunately, Istas is disappointed at Kalia's reaction...and irked by her sister's attitude towards her. Suddenly feeling as if she were cornered into this position, Istas does what she does best: try to take over the situation. With a flick of her tail, she shoulders past Kalia with a drawled, "Well, she's a wolf, too, of sorts. But she's the only furless one of the family."
Kaya fiddles with the fire a bit, before growling a warning at the dark female. "And the only one with the brains, obviously." She looks none too impressed with Istas's manner, which may lead another to believe that she's had some experience with it. "You've taken your time to find me, and now you're acting like you're like a puppy that's had a lucky break and killed some pathetic old diseased mouse." She raises a brow, then begins to pull on the furs that she's accumulated; she should be dry enough by now, and it'll get cold soon. Unlike the wolves, she doesn't have a natural insulator, as Istas pointed out...save for her own fat, and that's not adequate enough.
"Yes," The girl says, cooly tilting her head back and eyeing Kalia as one equal to another...perhaps meant as a polite gesture, since she obviously doesn't consider Istas to be her equal. The dark wolf scowls. Now, proper protocol demands that Kalia introduce herself.

As Istas shouldered past her, Kalia bristled threateningly. She wasn't just some wolf who could be pushed and shoved around whenever someone needed a scapegoat or something. Oh no, if someone tried to do that with her, she would just rip their throats out. But this time, seeing as she was outnumbered and didn't exactly know her potential opponent, she settled for wuffing a sort of warning type thing then looking back to Kaya.
"I'm Kal, if it matters any." It was a shortened version of her name, only because she didn't like giving out her full name to strangers. Plus, since she didn't get rid of Koro or Shetani, there was still a chance that they had sent someone out to look for her and, if they found her, bring her back to the packlands she had left so suddenly. That, the gray female would have none of. Just thinking about it made her growl to herself.
Having nothing else to say, the blind-in-one-eye femme flicked an ear sideways, putting part of her attention on the dark female but most of it on the human girl in front of her and the fire she had going. The flickering flames didn't scare her, really, it's just that she knew the danger of them if they ever got too bold.

((*snugs Tam* ;.; Sorry this took so long. Feel free to kick me into posting if you see me somewhere.))
Istas, however, is the one being outnumbered here, and she's resentful of it. Immediately defensive of her slowly slipping position within the 'pack' of her, Kaya, and Shilah, she's willing to take whatever she can get.
She snarls at Kaya, but Kaya just ignores her. That's an insult that hits home...and makes Istas whine. As Kaya doesn't offer any violence in return, Istas can't press the issue, and her status drops another notch. Keeping up a neverending, throaty growl, the dark-pelted wolf situates herself a distance from the two, nearer the edge of the river, and gnaws on a discarded bone from Kaya's supper. The way she eyes Kaya - and the way she cracks the bone in her teeth - suggest that she rather wishes it were Kaya's arm that she had in her maw.
The two-legged wolf, however, is poking at the fire and nodding to the lighter gray female. "Pleased to meet you." Her tone is brusque, but not discourteous. She eyes Istas, as if she'd like to say something, but apparantly thinks better of it, for she changes topics. "Would you like some otter? I left some without putting it over the fire...I'm afraid eating anything just-dead makes me rather sick." She flashes the other a wolf-grin. The roasted mess that she ate, however, was probably little better than raw...enough to make a 'civilized' human gag. And her table manners are quite atrocious.

Kalia smirked as she watched the little fight between the two 'sisters'. It really was quite amusing to see a full grown, possibly strong and cunning, wolf to get showed up by a small two-legger who had soft skin. Flicking her tail, she then looked back towards Kaya as Istas distanced herself away from the group indignantly.
"Otter?" She'd heard of it before, but never really tried it. Now that it was being offered to her by this seemingly dominant human, the she-wolf decided that she could give it a try. "Sure, I'll take some if you don't want it." Perhaps it was her soft spot for puppies that made her so calm and cool. Sure, Kaya wasn't exactly a wolf pup, but she was still young enough to be classified as one--though she was quite strong and dominant already.
"Ah, yes, I've heard of humans cooking their food because they can't exactly eat it raw. It's a shame, though.. doesn't it slow down the eating proccess? I mean, you have to wait for the food to be done roasting over the fire until you can actually eat it, right?" Well, this was strange... the gray femme was babbling, something she rarely ever did.
"Heh, excuse my rambling, I'm just trying to get through the whole concept of putting food over the fire.." She wasn't stupid, but she was just trying to see the advantages of cooking the food and not just the disadvantages. Maybe she came off as a dork, maybe she didn't. Whatever she came off as, Kal just shrugged it off and waited for the otter meat.

Istas isn't stupid - she's seen what this particular two-legger can do, even without proper teeth and claws. She eyes the dagger nervously from a distance. The bone splinters and cracks underneath her teeth.
Kaya, however, has lost all interest in her dark sibling. She throws a goodly chunk of meat to Kalia, which is still faintly warm...must have been a very recent kill.
Oddly enough, she probably wouldn't be offended by being called a pup. Although she's gained some status over Istas, she's pathetically lacking in the ways the wolves are strong. It's frustrating for her, but she's resigned herself to the fact that, to them, she may always be a pup.
But the new wolf latches onto something. "Cooking?" She querries, repeating the strange word. The conversation makes her suddenly uncomfortable. The wolves are her kin...she'd rather not be compared to something without four legs and a tail. Is that what they call it, this meat-burning? 'Cooking'? Vaguely, she realizes that someone must have taught her this skill...but if they had, she can't remember whom, or how. She's just always known it. Her brow furrows.
She shrugs, though. "If I didn't, I'd be sick as a pup afterward," she grimaces. "I just can't keep it down fresh-killed like you lot can. Shilah always teases me about taking forever over meals." There's a sudden ghost of a grin on her face. "He says it's a wonder nobody steals my meat in the process, but the fire keeps it away."
She's suddenly disconcorted again. Fire. That clicks something in her memory, but she doesn't want to pursue it, so merely shakes her head. "You've seen...two-leggers, then?" She asks, almost casually.
"We need to go find Shilah," The dark-furred wolf speaks up unexpectedly from her spot, eyes warily watching the twain.

Kalia took the meat as soon as it was thrown to her, but not in a way that made it look like she was starving. She wasn't, she just learned growing up that if you wanted to eat you better snatch the food before someone else does. That applied here, though she didn't know who would steal her food here. No one was close enough..
Then, when the human-girl echoed the word 'cooking', she paused briefly in between chomps. "Yes, cooking. At least, that's what the humans back home called it." Afterwards she went back to eating.
As she did, she also listened to what Kaya was saying, an ear tilting towards the wolf-girl. When the other was finished with her little explanation, and Kal with her meal, then she looked up and nodded. "Yeah, the humans back home always put their food over the fire rather than ate it raw. It was strange, but my pack soon learned that they couldn't eat the meat the way it came. And it is a wonder how no one steals it. Yet, you have something that all wolves should, if not do, fear: fire. Firekeeper," she said, giving the child a nickname, "you have fire and fire is a dangerous thing when it gets out of control. It's no wonder why someone doesn't steal your food while it's roasting."
Then, "Oh, yes, I've seen two-leggers. Lots of times in fact.." The she-wolf was about to explain the sort of relationship her old pack shared with the humans, but Istas interrupted her.
Shilah? Oh yes, the 'brother' the black femme was talking about. Nodding, she then glanced between the two sisters, yet she didn't say a word. She seemed to fit in here, and she didn't want to ruin it by making any smart remark about the odd siblings and one of them being human... then again, it wasn't all strange to her...

As par usual with wolves, Kaya has no problem with Kalia eating while they talk. Indeed, she expects it. She likewise occupies herself with sharpening her blade with a stone: of everything, it appears to be the only thing she keeps in relatively decent condition, listening to the other.
Cooking...the word nags at her, as if she's heard the word, or concept, before, from somebody else. Hige, maybe, or Balan? She hasn't seen either of them in ages. They'd probably be surprised how in how much Shilah's grown...but it can't have been either of them, how would they've known? Or maybe they stay near the two-leggers, like Kalia did?
She smiles at the nickname, swelling a little with pride, but she seems hasty to explain a finer point. "I make certain it can't get out of control. It is dangerous...." she trails off, puzzled. "I don't remember where I learned it, but I have it." the wolf-woman gives a faint shrug of her shoulders, as if to say that that's good enough for her. Curiousity is a human trait, and one she dosen't indulge in more often then she has to. She glances towards her dark sister, the nods, with a touch of odd reluctance. She'd like to keep talking to this new wolf. But maybe there'll be time for that enough later.
"Let's go, then. We'll follow the river, I think he went past me. He probably ended up on the bank somewhere," she says, matter-of-factly. He's a tough wolf, he probably dragged himself to shore. But that doesn't stop her from worrying. She grabs her finished meat, kicking dirt over the fire, which smoulders and dies, then latches on her dagger again, getting onto two legs. She turns to Kalia, courteous. "Would you mind coming with us to look? Another nose would be helpful." Especially considering that she's fairly nose-dead. She treats Kalia like an equal - unlike Istas.

Kalia was glad when the wolf-girl smiled at her nickname. Of course, because she was human, the smile seemed a little odd... but it was much too calm and non-aggressive to be a baring of teeth. She was glad that the nickname 'Firekeeper' pleased the other, it certainly pleased her. It was fitting, and somewhat discriptive.
Nodding again, she was about to explain that she understood that Kaya kept the fire under control, and that she didn't think the other was stupid and allowed such a dangerous thing as fire to grow out of control, but Istas had interrupted to say they needed to find Shilah.
Nodding once again, for the third time, Kal rose to her paws to stand beside the human. She was really quite fond of this one. But she had to add, "I knew you wouldn't let something like fire get out of control. You seem much too sharp to feed a greedy and tricky monster such as that so much that it can grow to be dangerous." A flick of her tail and a tilt of her ear confirmed that these words weren't shallow. (She has straaaaaaaaange little.. uh.. sign things.. >>)
"And, of course I will help. Friends help friends." At least, she believed the two to be friends. If not, then she could take back that word and put in one more fitting...
Looking over towards Istas, the gray femme wondered whether she could be considered a friend. Maybe.. yet, they had just barely met and Kalia didn't know enough about the other to have a sure judgement on her, unlike Kaya.
"Just lead the way and I'll keep alert for any signs of him." She didn't know his scent, but she figured that it would at least be mixed a little with Istas' and Kaya's.
