If worst came to worse, Penance simply wouldn't have allowed her to go home. If she were truly lost he would do just as he and his brother often did with lost creatures - he would take her home. While his father often rolled his eyes at such behaviour he never said no. Not only that, but his mother would be perfectly happy with the company and his Grandparents... would be even happier. Lord only knew that Moppet would launch herself at the filly and braid her hair. She could even meet Giruvegan who generally dozed in the depths of the Grove. It was a shame that the foal was no mind reader or he would have already offered up such a thing. At the very least, it was a good thing that her father eventually did come to track her down - even if it was a little sad it took so long.

Penance would have found it impossible to fathom such an upbringing. With his parents and grandparents a constant in his life, being lost wasn't something that happened. If he was lost, he would be found - he could recall the first time he had wandered too far from the grove as a new born. Completely lost, called and frightened he had bawled his eyes out (though he would never admit it) and then without a word a shadow had been cast upon him. He had only disappeared for a few moments, but in that time his father had tracked him down and with a nudge had brought him home. His father hadn't cuddled him but his mother certainly had! He could never complain or question his family - in their own way they took good care of one another.

...His father would never let his brother or he get hurt - and his mother would always show them love. He had always known his father struggled to express emotion but he didn't have to say it. It was in the little things he did... His father was the protector and his mother and grandmother made him feel as though he were the most important things in the world. To wander alone, to be completely forgotten would have shattered and all but destroyed him.

She was stronger than he could ever be.

Perhaps it was her innocence.

Nevertheless as she smiled a little part of him warmed, if there was one thing he needed to do...it was to make sure she never stopped smiling. The more she smiled the better he felt! However it was her words that made his ears perk and his eyes widen in surprise. They were words he never thought he'd hear from anyone except his brother. To promise that she would do anything for him even if it was really scary. Again something shifted inside him and he furrowed his brow slightly. Little did he know that it was his protective nature surfacing - completely undeveloped and difficult to comprehend. Her words made him feel uneasy - not in a bad way...but simply because he couldn't permit her to do something dangerous.

Shaking his head slowly, the foal at last offered a small smile and nuzzled at her cheek briefly to show his appreciation for her gesture. They were words that would stick with him forever, even if he refused to let her do it. The very fact she had even said something so significant would remain with him for an eternity. It simply cemented their friendship and confirmed to him that she was his special friend - something he had never expected to find in anyone other than his twin.

His first outside friend, and he was her first.

He couldn't lose that.

"I can't let you do anything scary, it wouldn't be right!" He pointed out and giggled, his tail wagging from side to side as he inspected the filly. "I'll never let you go anywhere like that, I won't let you get hurt," he took a deep breath and puffed out his chest to make himself seem taller than he really was. "It wouldn't be very brave of me if I let anyone hurt you -" he soon deflated and giggled again as he shrank.

"But you promise we'll always be friends...?"

How little he knew.

If only Penance understood just how much he was beginning to mean to the little filly. She had never had friends before, and that included her two sisters. Yes, she knew of Ennui and Minuet, and yes, she adored them and would do anything for the pair. But the family was broken and a bit shattered even though there was love found between Nimue and Ezriel. Though the fallen angeni and her mutant mate had overcome challenges some should never have to face or imagine, their love wasn't necessarily enough to void the dysfunction that seemed ever present in their wake.

The fact that Nimue didn't recognize her children as her own was the first challenge. It was something none of the girls could entirely understand and, furthermore, was something that couldn't be easily fixed. All that could happen was for Ezriel to forever chase after the mare and for Numielle, Ennui and Minuet to remember and know that for at least a day their mother had loved them. . . .

A shame that sometimes such things were easy to forget.

Thankfully for Numielle she was blessed with light. The spirits had blessed her and given her a mind similar to her mothers but not entirely the same; while easily forgetful and incredibly innocent, understanding, forgiving and trustful she was also a bit simple in design. Because her mother was often away with Ezriel not far behind, Numi had to come to an understanding of the world in her own way.

It was skewed for the uni-angeni but she continued to learn and believe. . . Everything in the world was right. Her innocence didn't allow her to believe there was more than what she'd been given; that families weren't always apart and that affection could be freely offered just as easy as she could give it.

Penance would be a great teacher for the filly so long as his patience held out.

Already he'd taught her that there were good othesr in the world. . . Already she had learned that she could find a great friend in one that looked so different!

"Oooooh," she gasped a bit as he informed her that he'd never let any hurt her. Her black eyes twinkled with delight as her rump wriggled a bt in anticipation. "Oh, I know you're gonna be very brave! You're already brave cause you told me you'd never let anyone hurt me before. . . So that automatically counts!" And it did. If he could talk big than she was more than assured he would keep such a promise.

"We'll be absolute bestest friends forever and ever," she agreed with pride, her own chest puffing out a bit as she mimicked his earlier action. "I meant what I said, I'd do anything for you. All you gotta do is ask! We can be friends forever 'n ever 'n ever. . . . That's my wish, oh yes, yes it is! I don't want to lose you like my mama, nope, nope, nope!" Biting her lower lip she reached up and gave one last little plea, "So please. . . please don't forget about me either. Even if I go away . . . cause I won't ever forget about you."

And that was the absolute truth. Her heart would break if one day they crossed paths and he had accidentally forgotten her. Just because her mother did it didn't mean she wanted her most dear Penny to do the same. Oh no, it was hard enough with Nimue. . . maybe the spirits wouldn't be so cruel as to do the same with him.

[[UTA! How could you make Numielle say that, now I'm all ;o; at her. xD]]

Numielle's upbringing would be something that Penance would probably never be able to completely understand. He had heard of broken families, whereby one parent was missing...but if he were to find out that both parents were present he would struggle. To think that a parent was capable of 'forgetting' her own children while they stood right before her was both heartbreaking and appalling at the same time. No doubt there were reasons for such a complex issue and there was obviously some question of mental stability but for someone to live that way. It would take a very particular sort of love, care and strength of character to endure something that the foal would have deemed so cruel. It was just as well he didn't know of this at such a young age, for he surely wouldn't have grasped the concept and nor would he have been capable of surpressing his baby-rage.

Luckily, Penance had been blessed with his Grand father's insane level of patience. It was a sickening irony to be blessed by someone so foul, but no doubt that in the years that progressed he would become thankful for it. Granted, the foal would sooner have inherited such a quality from his father but the entire forest knew that his father...wasn't exactly the most patient individual. There were certain subjects that set him off and positively infuriated him. While Penance wasn't aware of it, hell could freeze over and his grandfather would remain unphased. Instead, the ancient mutant would simply lie in wait for the appropriate time.

...It was odd, how even the most evil beasts held traits of such use. Then again it was highly unlikely they would be quite so successful in their endeavours without them. In regards to Penance though? Well, it would serve him well in his own endeavours to - though such things were decidedly less sinister. He would be more than capable as a 'teacher' for Numielle though in time he would mostly likely come to the conclusion that he loved her just as she was.

Odd quirks and views included.

Yep yep.

Nevertheless, as the filly uttered those words he felt something in his chest twinge. Again she had promised to be his best friend, had offered to sacrifice so much for him! He'd never even asked it of her and nor would he ever be so reckless. On the contrary, he would loathe the day he didn't have the strength to protect her and himself - he wouldn't let anything touch her. Aside from being too pretty, she was simply too fragile. His conclusions had been drawn as she seemed to plead with him not to forget her. It wasn't that he refused to promise such a thing and the illness he felt at such a request wasn't for horror, he just couldn't believe anyone would forget...

"You won't lose me..." he began slowly, his ears and wings twitching somewhat uncertainly at her words. He'd never heard such desperation and such a strange request. Too sheltered by his loving family, he could never begin to imagine the life she lived or the experiences she had gone through in such a short time. To be completely forgotten by his family would completely destroy a foal like him. "And why would I forget you?" He took a step back to examine her face, his own expression clouding.

How could anyone possibly forget her?

"Of course I won't forget you!" He stomped his hoof at last, regaining what little composure he did have. There was a renewed intensity to the glow in his amber eyes and he seemed more determined than ever. He may be just a foal but even he could have protective instincts. They might have woken up somewhat later than his sibling but they were most certainly there. "I'll never forget you because you're my friend," he snorted and stepped forward again, nudging lightly at her cheek.

Ah, if he had been older these words might have been taken entirely out of context (especially by his brother), just as well that he was only a kid, eh?

"And if you go away, or if you get lost..." he grinned and wagged his little tail, his expression still marked with determination. "I'll come find you and take you home...or to wherever you wanted to go in the first place." He fell quiet at this and tilted his head to the side. The small smile still rested on his equine lips but his eyes seemed to be searching, after all...he was still confused as to why she would make such a strange request to begin with.

He was serious though; if she was lost or lonely, then he would be the one to find her and lead the way home. They'd go hand in hand.

Yep yep!

Numielle stared at Penance as the cogs of his mind worked, her spiked tail still and tense as she waited for his reassurance and promises. For a terribly long moment the little filly couldn't help but hold her breath as she waited for his judgement, for his great decision on whether or not he would forget about her. Of course she'd forgive him if he did, just as she did her mother and father, but wouldn't it be great if he didn't?

"You won't lose me..."

Well of course she wouldn't lose him! He was her absolute bestest best friend in the entire world - he was too important to lose! Given, Numielle understood that sometimes she forgot things and misplaced them; like her pet squirrel she'd named Blacktart and she frequently forgot the exact way to go home when she wandered. She had a memory similar to her mothers but, unlike Nimue, the most important things Numielle refused to forget. She would always remember Nimue's touch when she was first born; she would also remember the scent of her father and his gruff words, or the way it felt to be tangled within his hair. She'd never, ever, ever forget her sisters Ennui and Minuet, even if they were detached and frequently stayed away. As important as they were, Penance would never be lost to her mind. She would always know of his little touch and his great words and keen intelligence; she wouldn't ever forget that he lived in the woods and he was her first and most closest friend.

Now, if only he wouldn't forget her. Well maybe he didn't understand. Giving a little shake of her head, blowing a few disheveled bangs out of her black and blue eyes, the little filly chuckled and pawed at the ground. It wasn't a big deal to her - she was used to being forgotten - but he had asked her why he might forget. "Because that's just what happens," she added innocently, her little tail swishing once again. "I don't know how often your Mommy runs away and forgets, but mine does, and so my Daddy has to go find her lots 'n' lots, and she dun' remember who my sisters or me are! And . . and sometimes I wish she would, ya know, but . . .but she don't. And. . . and I don't tell my sisters this, so it's our secret, 'kay, 'kay, but . . . but I don't like to be forgotten about. Sometimes it. . . ." Numielle scrunched up her features, the cogs of her mind spinning and churning and trying to come up with the best word to describe how she felt whenever Nimue did come home.

"Sometimes it. . . it just don't feel right and I get to feeling funny and my eyes sting and get blurry like they're broken! So if it feels bad when Mama does it, I just hoped that maybe you wouldn't do it either cause I don't like having broken eyes. Nope nope! Don't you feel kinda funny when your Mama does it to you?" She honestly had no idea that some families -okay, the majority of families - didn't have to deal with such a problem. Numielle had accepted that all families were like hers and therefor had no clue of what a mostly functional one was like. Perhaps it was for the best for the girl; she was walking proof that ignorance truly was bliss.

Maybe he understood it now. Maybe he didn't hurt as much when his Mama forgot him because he was stronger than her. Ezriel was stronger than her, and he was a boy, so maybe boys were just rough and tumble tough. She hoped to be as a strong as a boy someday but for now she'd just have to deal with leaky and broken stinging eyes.

Thankfully though the little filly had no trouble being honest. Her words had gone softer but they had stayed entirely innocent and matter-of-fact. They were the truth and were filled with only the slightest amount of regret. She didn't regret her family - she loved each one of them - but every now and then she wished for things to be different.

Ah, but the moment Penance actually stated that he wouldn't forget about her was when everything changed once again. Her matter-of-fact tone dropped and she let out the greatest squeal! Relief poured through her and she leapt up and over, burying her face once again within his scruffy mane and wriggling her rump in excitement. "Oh Penance I had hoped you wouldn't! But you know what? Even if you do that's Ok I'll find you just like Papa finds Mama and I'll make sure to explain how we're the bestest of best friends! I just don't ever want you to not be my friend cause of your memory. . . nope nope! But even if you do, maybe someday you'll remember again and know that I'll never, ever stop being your friend....even if I accidentally forget! But I won't cause you're too important, oh yes, yes you are!"

All sorts of giggles, this had to be the absolutely best day of her life.

Her friend said he'd never forget about her - oh joy and exultation! Maybe she wouldn't have to have broken eyes around him. Maybe she wouldn't have to feel so funny because everytime they met he'd know who she was. . .

To Numielle that would be the most amazing thing in the world.

Penance appeared to be 'stronger' than her because his mother had never done that to him or his twin. On the contrary, Bella was the most affectionate of mothers and doted on both her sons. Granted, she had moments of naivity that would drive his father to despair but this didn't mean she forgot her family. If his mother were to forget about her family, this foal was almost certain that it would just destroy his brother and he...but it would turn their father into a complete wreck. After all, Giruvegan had told them the adorable love story and without his mother and her coaxing, his father wouldn't have been interested at all. Ah yes, if Bella were to suddenly forget everything there was little doubt in this foals mind that their father would have to fight to maintain his composure. To expect him to raise his children alone would have been obvious but difficult for him to do...

Thus, when she continued to explain the depths of her ridiculously twisted family, his expression clouded and he shook his head. No wonder she didn't understand even simple things like families and different creatures. She had never been taught about them and had learnt of everything on her own! However, it was when she nearly cried that he shifted uneasily and quickly moved forward to nuzzle at the filly comfortingly. He wasn't about to let her burst into tears, she may find so much pain in the way that her mother treated her but he was never going to do that to her - he just couldn't. He had already made a promise that he would never forget her and never leave her, if she got lost then he would find her even if it took him weeks.

"My memory is real good, Twinks!" He announced as he adopted a nickname for her. Her personality reminded him of a star, always shining but on occasions she seemed to sparkle and twinkle. When she was happy she positively radiated and glowed with excitement...it was appropriate. This wasn't to say he had forgotten her name and he was definitely call her by that if she preferred, he just thought it was a nice idea. "I'll never forget you, I sometimes forget where I left my brother but that's not always my fault," he confessed and shook his head.

Drawing back, he gave his tail another wag and giggled. Ah yes, he often explored with his twin but Azuell had an terrible habit of being side tracked by food. It wasn't difficult for Penance to lose him on a regular basis simply because the pale colt had stopped to pick up a snack. Without warning or request to wait, he simply let Penance keep going until it was too late. If Penance was honest it was the most infuriating thing about his brother!

"He always stops to eat stuff and never tells me, by the time I look round he's not even there anymore!" He snorted softly and shook his head. In a manner of speaking he found it funny when he wasn't in the process of relocating his brother, it really did sound ridiculous. "But we always hunt each other down so we can keep playing," he added softly. It was with this in mind that he felt his stomach twist and he sighed. He had a terrible fondness for his family and loved them all dearly, his father might have been gruff but his mother's affection made up for it. They weren't a 'traditional' family themselves and remained secluded but the love that existed there was unparalleled. That being said, he didn't want to simply introduce her to a fully functioning family and upset her. He knew if he did that purposefully then she would be heartbroken!

Instead, he had to be more creative...

No doubt his mother would welcome him with open arms, Moppet would be delighted with her curly hair... And if his Grandpappy was there then the fluffy beast would be more than happy to greet her. Admittedly his father would appear bemused by the intrusion as both his brother and he had a rather bad habit of bringing things home with them. He wouldn't reject her, but he would give Penny that "I'm on to you" look that always unsettled him just a little. Alas, this was where Giruvegan often hid as well so if she wanted to see a bear...

That was it, the bear!

With a squeal, he returned his gaze to Numi and gave his tail another one of those wags he was so fond of. "Do you want to meet that bear now, Numi?" He enquired excitedly. "I know where he's playing!"

Penance didn't realize just how fortunate the little filly felt; he couldn't possibly understand that the spiked tail filly was realizing that she was indeed the most lucky little filly in the universe. Like a damsel in distress out came her knight and he had not just made a promise to rescue her should she get lost, but he had promised to actually be her very best friend. Never would she betray such a trust; never would she give up such a title in the world.

They were bestest friends. . . . and she would make sure they stayed that way, forever and ever and ever.

White ears pricked up as Penance offered her reassurances; wait, wait, waaait. . . . Twinks? A moments confusion brushed past her gaze, black and blue eyes dimming for a moment as she looked around them. Who was Twinks? Was there another foal rummaging around somewhere that she hadn't seen? No. . . at least none that she could visibly see. But Penance was talking to her and continued to do so. . . Did he forget her name wasn't Twinks?

Giggling a little bit, she dipped her head and tossed some of her fuzzy curls to the side. "I dunno who Twinks is but I believe you have a real good memory! Even if you do forget your hungry, hungry brother sometimes! I don't mind cause I know that you'll never ever want to forget me. . . . " Her smile was genuinely sweet and grateful while her little eyes sparkled in delight.

Penance made her all sorts of happy; maybe this is why little foals were supposed to have friends! With any luck she could make him feel just as special and lovely too. No matter what it took, she'd do her best to make him smile. The little black winged colt certainly didn't deserve anything less.

"And if I ever stop to eat, I'll make sure to let you know, yep, yep, yep!"

She didn't hold it against him that his brother stopped to eat. Given, she could understand that sometimes ones tummy just couldn't resist a bit of yummy grass and greenery, but it wasn't nice to disappear without warning; especially if someone was waiting for you! Therefor she resolved to let Penance know every time she was hungry or wanted to graze - that way he wouldn't lose her too.

White ears pricked up and she gave a little start as Penance squealed. What just happened, what did she do? Her spiked tail swished nervously until the little black colt suddenly asked her the most wonderful thing in the world. . . . Did she want to see a bear?

Oh. My. Goodness.

Her eyes went wide as plates as she realized that Penance was serious. There was a bear somewhere. . . a real bear. A living bear. A bear that would be fuzzy and wuzzy and all sorts of fierce! Her own little squeal escaped her as her rump wriggled in excitement. Hopping from hoof to hoof she couldn't contain her obvious excitement as a great grin crossed her features.

"A real bear?" She breathed, a little giggle escpaing her throat. "Like a real fuzzy wuzzy bear!? Oooooooh - I'd love to! Love to, love to, love to!" Was she happy about this prospect?

Incredibly, amazingly so.

"Twinks is you," There was a part of him that was already aware such a name might cause some minor confusion for the filly. Given she hadn't been raised in the same way he had been, a small part of him some how knew she wouldn't understand. Therefore it was with a genuine smile that he explained it to her. He had no qualms about explaining things, especially when they were so simple and didn't leave him confused as well. "You called me Penny, which is a pet name - right?" he began with a small swish of his tail. "So my pet name for you is Twinks - I know your name is Numielle, don't worry I won't forget it!" He announced with an emphatic nod.

Nevertheless, he was a little embarassed that he had caused her to jump. Perhaps it hadn't been the most subtle way to celebrate but he had never been one to contain his emotions. His mother, grandmother and even his grandfather had told him it was unhealthy. While his father need no comment regarding it, he made no moves to stop it either. As a result the young colt had long since been aware that it was 'true'. That being said he hadn't yet come to realise that creatures that were not a part of his immediate family were not necessarily prepared for random squeals and outbursts.

...He should probably work on that.

He offered an apologetic smile for the time being, waiting patiently for the filly to recover. Unsurprisingly, it didn't take her very long at all! His smile soon returned to his lips and it was with a giggle and a prance that he celebrated her acceptance at his offer. Any onlooker would have found the activities of the two foals to be rather eccentric but it appeared both were boisterous and expressive in their own ways. There was no misinterpreting their actions though, given that both were as clear as day...

"Great," he announced with another of his nods, swinging round on his hooves to begin walking back the way he came. He paused between a pair of tree trunks and glanced over his shoulder. It was with a nod and a gesture of his foreleg that he indicated it wanted her to follow. It wasn't a particularly long walk away. Admittedly he would have to be careful that Numielle didn't get stuck in anymore ferns again, but it wouldn't be long at all before they reached the Grove. After all, the colt rarely strayed too far away from his parents for the simple reason that he had no need to. Admittedly, the only times he 'disappeared' were to have treasure hunts with his brother when his grandfather told them 'tales' of special items and creatures in the depths of the forest.

Aha, he was terribly fond of his grandfather. While he wasn't necessarily playful, the Angeni was more than capable of entertaining the children when his parents required some time together. He was even happy enough to let the twins tug on his hair, inspect his four pairs of wings...he was more than happy to allow them to associate with his spiders too.

"It's not that far away from here, my papa is probably asleep but mommy and grandma should be awake," he gave another of his nods and smiled. "Giruvegan is a big fuzzy pile of fluff, you'll see him pretty easy," he confirmed after a few moments. It was with that, that he flicked his tail again and pushed a little more into the forest. Ensuring he kept within her line of sight, he didn't walk at all fast just in case she required his assistance again.

"They'll be really happy to meet you too, just you wait and see!"

Penance was well aware of how hospitable his mother and grandmother were. His father would probably be less than impressed to be woken up so abruptly, but he wasn't exactly one to scare another off (not now at least). As for Giruvegan...well, the bear was never one to say no to a little bit of socialising once he was awake and had been granted at least a minute to get over his groggy state!

"Oh it's me~!" She breathed in relief and delight as Penance patiently explained exactly who this mystery 'Twinks' filly was! Numielle did her best to memorize the name, repeating it over and over in her head as she thought hard about the name; Twinks. . . Twinks, Twinks, Twinks, Twinks. The little mutant angeni had no idea what such a name meant but since it came from Penance it could only mean it was right. She had never been given a pet name before, so once again, the golden eyed little colt was giving her another 'first'.

Truly she had been so lucky to have met such a wonderful bestest best friend!

"I'll do my best to remember, too! But dun get too mad if I accidentally forget," she added a bit softly, her little spiked tail wagging behind her in earnest. Numielle didn't have as poor a memory as her mother but she did live a little bit outside the box. Things didn't necessarily take with the simple, sweet mare and there was a very good chance she'd forget who Twinks was and might need it reexplained.

If anyone needed a shot of ginko extract it was Numielle.

"A bear, a bear, a bear!" She chanted, her voice rising in to a little filly sort of song. "We're gonna go see a bear, a bear, a bear; we're gonna go see a bear and he's gonna be a pile of fluff!" The little cloven hoofed mare was only too happy to follow Penny deeper in to the woods, doing her best to keep up with him. She wasn't exactly acclimated to the steep hillsides - it was work and her little body easily tripped and tumbled thanks to the misplaced weight of two sets of wings and a tail that was popular with the ferns. Still, she did her best, even if she could easily be considered clumsy.

"I've never met your parents before," Numielle stated thoughtfully, giving a little nod and grin in excitement. Thank you, Queen Obvious, but to Numielle it was quite the amazing fact! She'd never met his parents before and now she was going to meet his whole family. "You could meet my family someday too," she explained with a happy grin, tail wagging and twisting around her hind leg, ignoring the small scrapes it left on her ankle and fluff. "My papa dun take naps but he's big and has a devil tail and all sorts of spikes! But he lets me climb in his hair and hide away sometimes," she added with a smile. "And my Mama, when she comes round, is real, real pretty. I'd want you to meet 'em cause. . . cause I've never brought a friend home before and I think they'd be happy cause I'm happy with you! Yep, yep I am!" Needing to prove herself the little one jerked forward to catch up with Penance, offering his side a little nudge with her cheek (ever careful of her bloody horn). It was then, almost tripping, that she carefully took the tip of his tail in her mouth and happily followed him the rest of the way, humming a made up tune as they walked and doing her best not to get distracted by various plants, shrubbery and stones.

Penance would at a later date probably alternate between both names to avoid her immediate confusion. As he aged he would adapt accordingly to ensure that their friendship remained untainted. He would make her life as smooth as possible, avoiding any confusion or stress that could be otherwise avoided. Even if she was a little spacey he wouldn't mind, it was part of who she was and so long as she kept smiling he wouldn't worry. His promise still remained, if she got lost or wandered away then he would do everything in his power to find her. If she forgot then he would gently remind her, though there was a tiny part of him that sincerely doubted she would forget him - perhaps it was the flash of intelligence beneath that innocence.

She wasn't stupid.

Nevertheless as she made reference to him meeting her family it took everything in his power not to grimace. Even as a foal he got a somewhat apprehensive feeling in his tummy. He wasn't entirely sure that he would want to meet a family like her's. His father had great strength, had the ability to seem unphased by the most brutal of things but Penance wasn't sure he would have the strength. To encounter a mother who couldn't even recognise her children and a father who was more so obssessed with the mother's safety than that of his children...

No, something deep inside him knew that something would snap and Penance would say things he shouldn't. He wouldn't be able to hold back the urge to reprimand those who had raised a child so pitifully. To know that his best friend had taught herself nearly everything was horrifying, especially when he came from such a strong family. Admittedly his father wasn't affectionate but he was always there and his mother would never forget him. She fussed over both his brother and he with such love and care - he would never again take that for granted.

That being said he made no attempt to point this out to Numielle and simply giggled as she nudged at his chest and then clamped onto his tail. He'd never 'led' anyone by using his tail before! It was a rather odd sensation but she seemed to enjoy it and her humming was a comfort to him. Alas, while he enjoyed it, it would be short lived as he caught side of the familiar mound of black fur nearby. Given that there was also tell tale chatter...or rather 'ranting' from nearby, he could safely assume that Moppet had declared war on Uncle Nono and Horne again.

"Oooh, I see him!" He announced with a quick nod towards the mount of fur. Unfortunately for Giruvegan, his slumber was about to be interrupted by a rather loud squeal and much nuzzling. He probably wouldn't complain much about the nuzzling, though the squeal might put him into a difficult mood for a split second. Once the grogginess had been overcome, Penance was sure he would be more than happy to embrace Numielle just as Penny was.

"See that big mound of fur over there?" he whispered to Numielle, "That's a bear! You should go and say hello..." he cooed softly.

The little filly was more than content being lead by the winged colt. She kept up her little song, doing her best not to get distracted and focusing on his ticklish tail. Maybe pulling it wasn't the greatest idea, the strands she didn't catch occassionally flicked and tickled her nose. Still, she had to be even careful not to trip over her hooves or let her tail get tangled - Numielle's worst fear was hurting her new bestest best friend and having ones tail tugged upon wasn't exactly pleasant.

Thankfully for Penance (and his tail) the little filly's concentration was well rewarded. Without so much as a stumble she made it closer to the grove, her little ears pricking and her hum dying as she caught sound of muffled voices. Were those his parents? She couldn't make out what was being said but it certainly meant that they were far from being alone.

Trotting up next to Penance, carefully letting the fluffy bit of her tail tip brush against his leg. They were buddies and, as she was superbly affectionate with her sisters and parents, so Penance was going to have to grow used to. Touch was immensely important to the little filly, even if she didn't understand why.

It was only when Penance pointed out the gargantuan mound of fluff and fur that Numielle gasped. She had almost over looked the bear for a giant fluffy bush, and she couldn't help but squee in giggles. Her rump wriggled and with happy romp around Penance, along with a nuzzle against his neck, she hardly knew what to do with herself.

It was. . . . .a bear!

A great, huge, bear!

A fuzzy, wuzzy, loveable, cuddly, bear bear! "Eeeeee!" She giggled, hardly unsure whether to jump forward or hold back. "Can I really, really go say hi?" She wasn't sure what the bear was doing - he still looked an awful lot like a fuzzy plant but Numi trusted Penance wasn't lying - furthermore she didn't know what one said to a bear.

She had come rather unprepared for such a fantastic meeting... but, c'est la vie! Tail wagging frantically behind her, Numielle giggled one last time before launchign forward. Her delicate hooves brought her swiftly to Giru's side, amazement causing her black eyes to sparkle. "Hello Mr. Fuzzy Wuzzy Bear Face! I'm. . . I'm Numielle and I've never met a bear before so you're my very first, yep, yep, yep!" She was almost prattling as she, once again, forgot the definition of 'personal space'. Cuddling up to the fuzziest part she could find, she made sure her love of bears was obvious, and cherished the softness of his fur.

He really was a fuzzy wuzzy bear head! Oh, her best friend had done well in locating such a beast. He would be perfect to snuggle against! Ennuie and Minuet would ever be jealous!

Penance had never had to rely on 'touch' too much, it was something he took for granted given the nature of his upbringing. If his mother wasn't cuddling him, there was a guarantee that Moppet was going to be fussing. Affection was not something that was lacking in his 'household' despite his father's nature. On the contrary, even his father had rare moments of 'clarity' when he permitted Azuell and Penance to dive in and out of the insane amount of hair that he possessed. Thus, he was largely unphased by her delicate touch and as such, smiled just a little in response to it. No doubt as he matured something would kick in and he would probably colapse in response but that was a long ways away.

Nevertheless she had soon 'discarded' him and turned her attention towards the slowly rising and falling mound of fluff. Penance had never really understood why Giruvegan was so fluffy in comparison to other bears. Penance had met grizzly bears a few times but up until this point, neither his father or Giruvegan had made attempts to explain what Giruvegan was. Giruvegan was first and foremost a sloth bear and as such, he was incredibly fluffy...even his ears were defiantly big in comparison to most! Heh, all the better to hear people with, right? But it did make him much more adorable and approachable than most.

Alas, her chatter was largely unheard until the last moments and only after she had cuddled into him did the large bear stir. A small snort erupted from his nose and very slowly the bear opened his eyes to inspect whatever it was that was cuddling him. He had initially suspected that it was one of the colts but as he felt the feathers on his side he knew it wasn't. His brow lifted and with a tiny growl he rolled away from the little filly and sat up. It was a slow process and his movements were sluggish - with his vision bleary he wasn't able to focus for quite some time.

Unfortunately...he wasn't really given the time to focus.

"Giruuuuuuuvegan!" Penance howled as he lunged forward and rugby tackled the bear back to the ground. Given the sheer size of the bear he was able to deflect most of Penny's weight and rolled backwards with a small chuckle. "I want you to meet my friend!"

"Oh?" Giruvegan's attention was at last drawn towards Numielle once more and after a few moments he grinned. Nudging Penance off him, he padded towards the filly and unceremoniously plopped himself down before her. It was then that he peered at her, leaning forward to place his nose against the filly's with a gently snort. She was terribly pretty, though there was something in her eyes that he hadn't seen in years - it was most intriguing.

"So, who are you...eh?"

"S'Numielle!" Penny pulled himself to his hooves and gave a giggle, "She's my new best friend!"

"Ah, well aren't you a pretty one!" Giruvegan announced, patting at her neck lightly with his paw, ever the jovial sort. "I'm Giruvegan, but you can call me Giru if you like!"

Numielle stifled a little squeal, albeit poorly, as the fluffy bear moved underneath her touch. She absolutely couldn't wait to tell Ennuie and Minuet about this most excelent and glorious adventure - first she met her very first and bestest friend, Penance, while sauntering through the woods and now she was nose to nose with a bear! There could never be a more perfect day, as far as the young filly were concerned, and she couldn't possibly imagine what might have happened had she not chosen to seek out Nimue. What if she had never met Penance? Would that mean that she would go through her entire life without having her absolute best-friend within it?

Who knew. . . but such a fate hadn't happened. Giruvegan was proof of that!

Wide eyed at the bear, Numielle's little tail swished wildly back and forth behind her. She didn't dare move away, lest Giru think he scared her, and two black and blue eyes were focused only upon the drowsy form. He really was a fuzzy wuzzy head, all sorts of soft and gigantic in form. He would make a perfect cuddle toy and was large enough that Numi was certain both her sisters could cuddle him and there still be room for more! She didn't notice the grogginess that surrounded the once sleeping form, she wasn't perceptive enough to realize that perhaps he was to be a bit grouchy from her unexpected cuddling - who didn't like to be cuddled?

Certainly not Numielle, therfor she could only assume that the rest of the world followed suit.

The mutant angeni's smile grew as Penance threw himself at the bear. Her rump wriggled happily as watched the two interact, secretly wishing she could have had a massive, fuzzy bear all her own. What great adventures would they have together, romping through the forest and investigating all sorts of things that needed to be investigate. Surely Penance and his family had great times with the massive and cuddly bear. . . it would be a shame not to. Eyes sparkling bright, Numielle giggled and squealed a bit as Giru's nose touched her own. She went a little cross eyed staring at him, but held her breath as the bear finally investigated her.

The pale filly didn't have time to catch her tongue as Penance explained her name; it was for the best, of course, as he spirits were soaring when Giru patted her lightly on the neck. She? Pretty!? Giggling again, the little winged filly dipped her head a bit shyly, half turning to hide her face in one set of her wings. Oh no - her nose felt warm and she felt silly standing in front of the bear. "You think I'm pretty," she giggled softly, not quite sure what else to say but deliriously happy she was talking to a bear!

Probably the biggest and greatest and strongest and most wonderful bear in the world at that!

"It's nice to meet you, Giru~!!" The red haired filly finally spoke, her spiked tail slowing in its frantic wag of excitement. She was radiating with pleasure and it showed, her black and blue eyes aglow. "I'm Numielle, but you can call me Numi if you like! It's a shorter version of my name," she patiently explained, giving her head a happy nod. Did you know how big you are, Mr. Fuzzy Heady Giru? Cause you're huge if you din' know!" Part of her wondered if even her father, Ezriel, could take him on. It certainly would be quite the fight. . .

Ah yes, Giruvegan was rather large in size. He stood tall above a human when he raised on to two paws but this had never been something he viewed as important. He was a sloth bear for a reason and as such he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He was only forceful and dangerous when it was required, if the creatures he loved were in need of his assistance. Generally speaking he would sooner snooze in the sun and enjoy the fine weather than have a dispute over something that was otherwise superficial. As a result of such things he was perfectly content to accept Numi's observations though he said nothing to accept or reject them.

However as she crossed her eyes to inspect his paw he offered a delighted laugh and patted her neck gently again. She really was quite the character and in a manenr of speaking, she reminded him of Bella. There was an optimism in her eyes that made her very special and Giruvegan was content in the knowledge that Penance had found her as friend. Small and exciteable as she may be, she would be a very good thing for the colt who may otherwise need encouragement. After all, Penance possessed rather large leathered wings and as such there was a chance he would be mistaken for something he was not - he may have been raised in a loving family but he would need support elsewhere too.

"Well you are pretty!" he announced, nodding his head emphatically and savouring the moment in which she hid her head from view. It was an action he hadn't seen in years and was terribly adorable! In a manner of speaking he did muse over where the filly had come from given that she had somehow wandered into Islagiatt territory but he wasn't adverse to her existence. On the contrary he was glad that Penance had found a friend outside of his brother - a brother who had already discovered quite a number of friends for himself.

"And it is nice to meet you too," he offered gently, tilting his fuzzy head to the side as Penance approached the pair. It was unsurprising that the colt had to bounce over Numi's wagging tail but he didn't seem phased by such an action. Penance was adapting very quickly to his new friend's quirks and as such, could dodge out of the way of a potentially dangerous appendage. That being said she was terribly careful with it, so his dodges weren't terribly extravagant and were almost half hearted.

"So, whatcha think Giru?" he enquired, nudging at the bear curiously. A part of him desperately sought the approval of his father's companion and the other part of him simply didn't care. He liked her and that was all that mattered.

"I approve!" The bear cooed softly, patting at the colt's neck before flashing a toothy grin. Slowly but surely this particular Sloth bear was waking up and was now less groggy. That in mind he was far more adept at games in this condition and as such, pulled himself to his feet. Clearing his throat he inspected both foals for a few moments and then unceremoniously knocked both to the side - Penance went flying of course, as was customary for a colt who was so light.

In essence, this was the bears invitation to let the 'games begin' and he would of course provide adequate entertainment until it was time to go home. No doubt Azumoth would escort the young filly back to safety but until that point the pair of foals and the bear were free to be as loud and exciteable as they liked...
