JoJo's looked turned from sour to puzzled. "I thought it was obvious. All I wanted to do was make sure you were safe. And I'm not sorry for that." He didn't mention what he had just been thinking, that he wouldn't mind forgetting the singing, he just looked down at his dirt-caked paws and mumbled, "I don't want to harp on it either." He nodded slightly at Tolfitken's mention of betrayal; he may not have experienced the same kind as she had, but surely his counted; heaven knows it had hurt enough.
He looked up at her last words and smiled genuinely for the first time since the catastrophe. "Events of our past huh. You know, that's the most sense you've made since the tornado vanished."

"It wasn't obvious to me," she said quietly, almost sheepishly, "And I'm not sorry for trying to follow you; I was trying to make sure you would be safe, whether either of us knew what we were doing or not..." She started a little at his smile, cocking her head to the side and remarking before she could stop herself, "I think that's the first time I've actually seen you smile..." Then she shook her head, trying to remember what he had said last. "It is? Then maybe my wits have begun to return to me," she said, cocking her head to the other side and letting a releived smile of her own slide onto her face.

Now it was JoJo's turn to look sheepish. "I guess when I'm here I forget that there are some people who through no fault of their own don't know the ways of Absol. I'm sort of used to having people know right away...." He looked surprised and almost alarmed. "Really? Well....I don't have a lot of happy moments, so I suppose it is the first time. I'd probably scare people if I smiled a whole lot." He let out a weak chuckle, then quickly sobered up. "I guess the explanation just had to make sense to both of us. I guess I can see now why you didn't want to stay, though I was planning to come back to make sure you were okay anyway." He offered a small smile.

"I don't think you'd scare people, I like it when people smile," she said, smiling brightly and hoping her smile wouldn't wind up scaring him, "Yeah, and I can understand why you wouldn't want to have someone follow you into danger, but I just couldn't stay; I had to follow." She laughed a little, "I guess next time we'll both know, then. Though I'll still run after you if you try to leave me behind again." Letting her smile drop to a more natural level she looked at him and then at the sky. "I suppose if there aren't anymore natural disasters lurking about we could take advantage of the forest's peace and quiet..." she said, hoping he wouldn't mind listening to her sing or if she wanted to listen to him sing.

"Well.....I don't think my face is all that used to it." He didn't seem perturbed by her smile, but then again, he'd seen some pokemir with pretty darn scary smiles. He nodded solemnly. "Yeah, I guess we know better now. I'll let you look out for yourself should the worst happen, though it may take some getting used to on my part, so do bear with me."
He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath and looking up at the sky. "I don't think so; there aren't even any traces of clouds left from that tornado. They sure come and go quickly, don't they?" He looked back at Tolfitken and began to nervously gnaw on his lip. "I suppose....we could."

"We'll both have to get used to it," she nodded, trying to catch a warm breeze in her ears. Seeing how nervous the subject made him, she pretended she hadn't asked about the singing, instead just commenting on the tornado. "Yeah, except for the trees it's like it didn't even happen at all," she said, "The wonders and power of Mother Nature, huh?" She let her smile turn into a wry grin and let her gaze drift across the sky with the breeze.

JoJo sighed heavily and looked up at the sky. "Yeah......wonders." He spat out the last word, but there was none of the venom and misplaced anger that had caused trouble before. Only a resigned sadness. "Nature has a nasty side too....." He could feel his mind digging it's heels into the ground as it was pulled inexorably toward an unwanted memory. He started to hear the crackle, feel the searing heat, see the angry orange, and......
He scratched an ear until it bled and the memories were far away once more. Hoping that Tolfitken hadn't noticed, he looked up at the sky, singing very quietly under his breath. "And my Lucy, lies in ashes, and I'll never, see my girl again....."

Her ears twitched and the stitches on them tingled as she looked over to see JoJo bloodying one of his own ears. Staying silent for now, she determined to get some antibacterial and bandages for it later. "She could destroy us all in an instant," Tolfitken said instead, resounding awe and depth in her voice. Her sensitive ears twitched again at the soft singing, and she returned her gaze to the sky as she tenatively listened to it.

JoJo paused for a moment and looked at Tolfitken. Her words about Mother Nature destroying things in an instant made something click inside of him. Perhaps it was that most people he had seen either hated nature and preferred to stay indoors like Squirtle in their shells, or loved nature and saw nothing but beauty and tranquility, like a sappy movie. He hadn't seen too many who thought of nature as both beautiful and dangerous.
He suddenly realized that like when this whole thing started, she had probably been listening to him singing again. He smiled a small smile at Tolfitken and shrugged apologetically. "That one's best sung louder anyway."

Tolfitken smiled back, "You can sing it louder, if you wish." She didn't mean to pressure him, it was only a suggestion. In her turn, she began to hum softly a song from the movie Thumbelina that Neko had made her watch the other day. She suddenly remembered the roll of bandages Treasure had given her when she burned her paw after her father had given her the matches to play with. "I'll be right back," she said, dashing into the woods and climbing a nearby tree. The area they were in was close to Treasure's house, the roar of the sea against the cliffs echoing in the distance if one listened hard enough. Skidding to a stop in the clearing before she reached JoJo, she set the bandages down and began to unroll them, still humming quietly as she did so.

JoJo chuckled dryly. "I'd better not; that's an angry song, and I can't in all sincerety guarantee what I'd do if I sung it with another person around." He said it in a light manner, but his eyes were serious. "And besides, I can't sing it from the beginning without someone else to sing Mrs. Lovett's part."
He went quiet and was trying to place the song that Tolfitken was humming, then blinked in surprise when she vanished. At least she said she'd be back, so it isn't as though she's just runnin' off. When she returned with a roll of bandages, he eyed them with curiousity and not a little suspicion. "What're those for?"
PostPosted: Tue Sep 02, 2008 5:47 pm

Tolfitken tilted her head to the side, wondering breifly what Mrs. Lovett's part was. "My parents were masochists," she said, holding the ready bandages and inching towards his partially bloodied ear, grinning slightly, "So the few times that I actually saw them I became fairly good at patchwork." Her own ears twitched a little to hide themselves behind her head, the stitches she normally wore proudly now giving her the feeling that she looked like some cast off rag doll. Before JoJo might have squeezed in a protest or two she had darted over, wrapped the bandage around his ear snuggly and darted away to sit where she had been before and resume humming 'Let Me Be Your Wings'.

JoJo cocked his head with interest at the unknown word. Hearing the rest of Tolfitken's words, he came to the conclusion that it must mean some sort of seamstress, like one who sews stuffed animals. Though why one would sew themselves like that was beyond him.
JoJo started as Tolfitken darted over to him and wrapped his ear. When she jumped back, he managed a startled "Hey!" before reaching up to feel the bandaged ear. He scowled at Tolfitken, and the scowl half-melted into a sloppy grin. "Thanks." He blinked, then began to bob his upper body like he was dancing in place, one paw waving the tempo.
Mrs Lovett
You're a bloody wonder
Imminently practical
And yet appropriate as always
Mrs Lovett how I've lived without you
All these years I'll never know!

"Welcome," she replied, her ears sneaking back out from behind her head as she smiled, glad he didn't seem too perturbed at her intrusion. She watched him sway to and fro, her ears beginning to flick like his paw with the tempo. She was curious as to what he was listening to, but remembering what he had warned earlier she kept silent and simply wondered.

JoJo stopped as soon as he began to sing about the crunching noises and seemed to remember that Tolfitken was still there. Looking downright sheepish, he shrugged at her. "Sorry. Once those songs are in your head, they can be really hard to get out." He looked thoughtful for a minute. "Pity there isn't a song we both know so we can both sing."
