Arbutus isn't quite sure how to respond at this point. “N-no no, please! Your actions were perfectly natural. I... I'm just such a Mus-headed clod sometimes, that I let myself get carried away... I should know better.” he was beginning to ramble again.

This wasn't helping, no amount of mumbled apologizes would slake the guilt building up in him. It's not without a long sigh and some hesitation before Arbutus haltingly admits his thoughts to the other. “Really, you may have s-saved me. Please... accept this as my thanks.” he says, slowly holding up the last remaining comb in offering.

“Oh Nh-Ne-Na-No. I ca-couldn’t take that fh-from you.” He said, finding the situation getting more and more awkward. Both of them seemed shamed at their own actions and neither own was willing to accept the apology, finding fault in both of their actions. Both where placed in a very odd position and neither one was willing to just take the apology, let alone an innocent honey comb.

“Ie-If it wasn’t fa-for me, ya-you’d hh-ha-have much more tha-tha-than that.” He said, feeling his speak get progressively worse by the second and adding on to a deep sense of shame. He found his own tongue minding up in his throat and knew that it would probably just progress if he didn’t take a moment to breath to gain some semblance of speak. He lapsed in a moment of concentrated silence, mentally untangling his brain in hopes it would untie his tongue, before continuing.

“If you wh-want. Ah-I could help you find sa-sa-ssome more. Ta-To make th-th-things even.” Oh, his blasted nerves!

Frustration. Copious amounts of frustration. His attempts at reconciliation seemingly rejected, Arbutus feels at a loss for what to do now. His oft-worn expression of long-suffering patience currently on display is beginning to show further signs of strain. “Look!... r-really...” he pauses, reminding himself to be understanding yet again. “You don't need to do that. I... it's alright about the combs... there will always be more.”

In a way, Arbutus almost feels like he's lying. If not to the stranger, then to himself. The hive had been quite sizable when he'd first found it, not exactly something he would stumble upon again very soon.

“Y-you don't owe me anything... I'm the one that nearly got us both in danger.” he says, carefully placing the offered comb at Sequoia feet. “It's yours, please accept it. I owe you that much, if only for bringing me back to my senses.” His tone is sincere, but Arbutus can't help but look rather miserable.

He could tell the conversation was running about to nowhere and either one was only just apologizing to the other and no one was willing to not be seen as the one having shown the biggest fault. Yet, Sequoia was told he was a sensitive male, unusual even for his gender, and could tell that apologizing more would probably just frustrate the hell out of the other. Not one for pride, he let the argument drop and nodded, accepting the honeycomb to appease the other. Both of them had made a mistake. “Thank you.” He said, words returning as he calmed. “I-I am just happy no one is h-hurt.” Okay, maybe not all his words returning, but at least he could work out a sentence with only a few mistakes.

Noticing the other look downright like a downpour in winter, Sequoia stepped over the honeycomb and leaning in, preened on of the male’s eartuffs. “Don’t be so hard on yourself. Ambition like that is very good trait to have.”

Arbutus bobs his head toward the other in thanks. “Mm... welcome.” he mumbles gloomily. In truth, he was relieved, but it really hadn't helped to soothe his conscience much in the end. “Be sure to put it to... good use...” Arbutus can feel the slightest tinge of sourness in his belly; looks like he won't be getting that new rucksack anytime soon.

In spite of Sequoia's comforting words, Arbutus still holds the countenance of a water-logged squirrel. “I... suppose. I guess I'm just not used to working with somebody else.” he comments, careful to avoid eye-contact. Arbutus isn't usually comfortable with such familiarity, but he doesn't want to embarrass the poor fellow any further, so he allows the preening... if somewhat awkwardly.

Sequoia dropped the preening and stepped back, feeling himself both better in his mind for helping with what he felt was a surefire way to make people feel at ease, and also for the dropped conversation from before. Now they were talking normally, if not still with some hesitation and embarrassment, but pushing onward left sourness behind.

"I will. I know someone who would like to have it or find someone who can." He wondered if he should instead invite the stranger to have it with him at his place, but that might not be the best thing. They hardly knew each other.

"Oh, are you a Ranger or a Scout then?" He asked, wondering and thinking that jobs without much teamwork would fall into those categories. "Sorry, I don't know too many Sentinels." He said, smiling a bit at this.

Arbutus smiles weakly at Sequoia's question. “No, I'm actually a Gatherer... uh, sorry, I never did properly introduced myself...” His parents really had taught him better then that, they'd both been teachers for goodness sake! Just another bad habit of his. “The name's Arbutus.”

Just then, it dawns on him. Arbutus is suddenly brought to the realization that he's quite sore practically everywhere. From his handsome collection of bee-stings, ruffled and broken chest feathers via the rapid descent down the tree-side, to his honey-soaked feet and beak... he must appear as quite the mess. “Umm... I think I should probably, uh... go.” he mumbles apologetically. “...I'm not really in the best of shape right now...”

Sequoia has been oblivious to Arbutus' appearance, having been more concerned about whether or not someone might die or get injured. Now that they had a moment to relax and consider themselves, Sequoia did notice the other did not look in his best shape. He was in dire need of a good day's rest and a very thorough preening. Idle chatter would have to wait, but Sequoia at least had a name and a task, which was sometimes the most he ever got from a conversation with passing strangers. It certainly was more than he expected when he first noticed the Sentinel at first.

"Oh, yes. I'm sorry to keep you. You must be tired..." His eyes looked the Sentinel over. "Are you going to be okay? Do you need to see a medic?" He didn't want to say his goodbyes and then have Arbutus to drop in flight halfway on his way home.

“I'll be alright... I'll live.” he offers in a rather weak attempt at levity, hoping to dissuade any potential ideas of accompaniment. The last thing Arbutus wants right now is to be escorted home, or worse, into the care of a prodding medic. He again makes doubly-sure to check himself that it's nothing really personal. He just needs some time to himself for a while. “Nothing worth troubling them with... I should be right as rain by tomorrow.”

Shifting his feet about his perch, Arbutus faces towards the rough direction of home as he gingerly stretches out his wings in preparation for the flight. “I never got your name...?” he asks with a final sideways glance. Hopefully the other fellow won't take offense, as his neck is awfully sore.

Sequoia was glad. He really would have traveled to Arbutus all the way to the closest medic to make sure he was alright, but he took the Gatherer's word for it. He looked well enough, and that was fine for Sequoia.

At the talk of leaving, Sequoia returned to thinking of his own trip. He had been heading to Rosinweed's and she would worry if he took too long. Nodding, he too turned and made preparations to go, but folded his wings back when he was asked his name.

"Ah...Sequoia. My name's Sequoia." He said, wanting to make sure that the other remembered his name. He didn't meet to many people and not too many people knew his name. He liked getting his introductions done when he could.
