York nodded, watching D with his one deep brown eye and his cloudier other. "I'm feeling much better, thanks," he replied. Smiling, he reached out with one paw. "Your glasses are skewed!" he laughed gently. He righted them. "No, please stay. You don't have to leave if you don't want to. I..." he paused, not quite believing himself. "I think I'd prefer it if you stayed..."

D almost didn't believe it. Not only had he made York laugh but he wanted him to stay. D's eyes lighted up and he felt something inside of him uncoil and spread throughout his small frame. The little fox smiled at his partner and then put his head against York's shoulder and gently rubbed against it. "Thank you, York" he whispered.

Something electric ran down York's spine and down his legs to his toes. He wrapped his tail around his partner and rubbed his face gently against D's. "No," he murmured. "Thank you. Without you, I'd be lost. I wouldn't still be here if it weren't for you. I owe you everything I have and have had." The surest thing he had ever known blossomed in his mind: he loved D without question or worry, and he would die if he lost him.

D curled as tightly as he could into York. He wasn't exactly sure what was going on but he'd figure it out eventually. He always did although he was keenly aware of the fact that right here was everything that had ever been and ever would be important to him. Was this love? He wondered. He wasn't sure. Like all of his emotions this was another quirk in his programming. If it was though, D decided he liked the way it made him feel. And if York was happy, that was all that really mattered to D.
D nuzzled York and muttered absently, "You should still eat something...." it wasn't the best thing he could say, but D could only fight his programming so far and he could hear York's stomach gurgling anyway. No matter what was happening between them, they both were limited in very specific ways.

At first, York thought that the moment had faded. Then he remembered that although to York D's emotions were always clear, D had trouble accepting his own feelings, especially when they were abnormal to AIs or went against his programming. "Okay," he whispered, nuzzling D back. There was no mistaking the tenderness in D's voice. Gently, trying not to disturb his partner, York got off the bed and padded into the other room. He still felt warmth where D had curled against him. Would D ever be able to fight what he was? I'm not sure I want to, York thought. After all, his adherence to his program is what makes him different from the others.
Anyway, it doesn't matter, as long as he's happy. He settled down at the table, carefully sweeping the hardware on it aside to make a place for the warm chicken and potato.

D laid on the bed for a few more minutes trying to come to terms with his new found experience and emotion. He gave up after three minutes and then followed York out into the living room, he could always figure it out tonight after York went to bed, unless they were pulling a job tonight. "I'll make you a salad." D said going to the fridge. "And eat it this time...its good for you." he said looking over at York and giving him a look over his glasses.
York getting sick was one of the things that D worried about a lot. They had so few people they could trust and D didn't want to run the risk of bringing someone here to help him take care of York. Which is why D planned the meals, York cooked them and then D badgered York to eat them. It worked in its own fashion.

York nodded, his mouth too full to respond. Once D had turned his back, he rolled his eyes. He had gotten used to D's obsessions about his health; he remembered one time asking D why he wouldn't let it lie. D was right; there weren't so many they could trust that they could risk illness. The healing unit in his armor was in bad repair, and it could only heal wounds in battle anyway. He wasn't even sure if it worked anymore.
His main course finished, York put it in the pile of dishes to be cleaned. "We'll need money for the rent at some point," he murmured to D. "Not yet, we have a month, but eventually...I'll get those force fields on the windows tonight. It shouldn't be left any longer." He didn't add that he wasn't sure if they would keep out the more tech-savvy agents such as Tex.

D pulled out a bowl of mixed fruit with some sort of cream cheese dip and put it in front of York. He then planted himself in front of his partner to make sure he ate it.
"I figured you'd want to do something tonight." D said. He picked up a piece of paper and then transcribed a map from his data banks onto it circling the power grid housings on the neighboring buildings. "This is where I suggest we remotely set up the generators for the windows." he said pointing. He then flipped the paper and quickly drew another map of the area circling stores that were the best targets. "These here are the ones that we haven't touched yet. I will also suggest that if we don't hit on a payday we may not receive the sum we need out of the convenience stores. Unless you want to hit something a little bigger...but then we'd need a fence." D said looking over his glasses at York.

York pulled out a strawberry from the bowl and dipped it into the cream cheese. He knew that D would never leave him alone unless he finished the entire bowl, even if he did prefer whipped cream on his strawberries.
He glanced at the maps, shutting his left eye to prevent it from bothering him. He pointed to one building. "That one would seem to be the best to hook the generators up to. It's close and has a lot of power." He pulled another of the maps closer to him. "Yeah, we haven't been having a lot of luck with convenience stores lately," he muttered. "But I'm not sure I'm up to finding a fence." It was a tricky situation; with Project Freelancer in the mud, York was without a job. No one needed an infiltrations specialist and York had few other skills that would be marketable. He was down to breaking into stores and stealing money from the cashboxes now. "What would you suggest, D?"

D watched York play with the strawberry and didn't stop until he finally ate it.
"Personally I think the generators should go on two buildings...we don't want to create too large of a power draw that someone becomes suspicious and checks the grids." D took back the paper and studied the second map again. "According to the neighbors payday is on Thursday. So the most logical thing to do would be to hit two different stores Thursday night at the furthest points in our range. We'll have to hit the safe itself though...If we can manage I suggest taking half of what we need from each store. I've already run a rough budget and I believe if we come out well that night we may only need to make one hit in the middle of the month." D said pushing up his glasses again and handing the map back to York.

York popped the strawberry in his mouth and nabbed a pen from the scattered equipment all over the table. He carefully drew a circle around the farthest stores in their range and added a date. "That way we know when we last 'visited' it," he explained once he had swallowed. "That sounds like a good plan. We'll need to move fast to get to both of them, but luckily there don't seem to be any police stations near there. Even then, we'll scout out the locations tonight." He tapped two of the houses. "Those look good, D?"
He pulled out another strawberry. There were other pieces of fruit in the bowl, but he enjoyed the strawberries more.

"Eat a piece of watermelon, York." D said without even looking up from the map. "And I agree. This seems to be a workable plan." he said glancing up waiting to see if York would do as he'd told him.

York scowled and plucked a piece of watermelon from the bowl. That was one of the downsides of being so close to D: he always knew when he wasn't eating all of his fruits and vegetables.
Tentatively, York reached out one paw to rest on one of D's to see if the feeling was still there.

D had turned back to the map committing it to his memory banks after he'd seen York pick up the piece of watermelon. He'd just finished when he felt York's paw on his. D felt a something akin to little fish swim up and down his back at York's touch. He looked over at his partner his green eyes soft. D looked into York's good eye, feeling that he wanted something, but wasn't sure what. He didn't worry about trying to figure out what it was though, York was the one who had the answers this time.

York smiled and gazed into D's eyes. D's eyes were such a clear green...deep like the color of redwood needles with the light of a pool of crystal water in the high mountains...he felt that feeling of lightning crawling across his frame again. I'm sure D feels this way...but how else must he be feeling? AIs weren't meant to feel this... "Are you okay, D?" he asked, concerned, stroking D's paw.
