Barafu snorted and his angry look melted into that menacing smile. "Good. You're not done yet, after all," he mused and circled her. He was a cat. A "big" cat, yes. Insane? Maybe. But that didn't stop his curiosity. He was still a cat, after all.
"So, lion. What is it? What is it that keeps you standing, keeps you alive?" he asked and then it was if he just recalled his actions. His face broke in a surprised "oh" and it morphed into that narrowed-eyed smile of his.
"Oh that's right. I must have hurt your voice, didn't I? Well, I couldn't have you making that awful noise anymore," he added, his tail flicking back and forth as he paused in his pacing. "I'd much rather hear you scream."

Patience....Maluuni had it in great amounts. She watched him, forest-eyes seeking a weak point as if he was another prey beast fighting back. He was similar in size to her...She could take him on.
Her fur was on edge, and her eyes empty. There was no room for emotion in a hunt. No room at all.
And then his weakness. At least, that's how she perceived it...He was arrogant. Without warning, she lunged at him, seeking to bring him down. And maybe, just maybe, injure him and his pride enough to make him go away.

Barafu growled and dodged when she came at him, her claws just catching his hip enough to draw blood in two thin lines. Two more scars to mark his body. "b***h!" he spat at her, his eyes narrowed in fury. He ran at her and zipped around so that he could catch her haunches. "You'll pay for that!" he snarled, wanting nothing more than to make her feel the pain he felt.

Good. She hadn't hit full force like she'd wanted to, but she'd hit nonetheless and drawn blood. As he came back at her, she twisted to strike at him as he stuck at her. She would not be overcome. She had cubs to protect, cubs to go back to.
If she couldn't go back to them, Iar would get them! And the rest of her precious cubs would become demons! Demons like Iar...and like this insane cheetah.

Barafu hissed as he bit into the flesh by her shoulder, biting and tearing as she caught him again, twisting away. He backed away, ears folded back and the smile returned to his bloodstained mouth as he spit out the flesh he had taken from the lioness. "Does it hurt, lioness? Good," he said calmly and turned away from her, back towards his kill. He'd hurt her enough, and she had shown strength enough to keep her life at his paws. He paused, looking over his scarred shoulder at her. "One day. You will all know the pain I felt, even as a newly born cub. If it takes all my life, I'll make you all know," he said softly, his eyes distant and unfocused.

He was right...it hurt. It hurt a great deal. It hurt more than anything Mwenye had done to her physically.
When he walked off, she was near-dumbfounded, but relieved. She could stop...she could go back to her cubs...Maluuni could sleep the pain off and they could continue their run.
When she heard his final words, she wished she could have spoken. But she couldn't. She made her way back towards her cubs. He wasn't the only one to have suffered within. She briefly wondered if he'd been determined 'cursed' as well at birth. That thought did not stay long...not long after she'd left his range of sight, she fell unconscious as pain, blood loss, and exhaustion overcame her.
