Yuurei nodded at Josh's polite attempt to get rid of Lucia's company. "Yes, we won't bother you too long, Josh. And I promised you some. . . umm . . . food at Nana Lucia's, Lu."
Lucia ignored her guardian's attempt to get her away from Josh.
She smiled shyly when asked about her powers. Essences, souls, powers. They all seemed kind of personal like a bra size. She paused to consider, but decided that the information he gave and his enthusiasm were worth it. "I can see the, well, souls of animals and other things that have just died." She paused, recalling the first time that she saw a soul. The mother crow had been very confused. She wanted to care for her infants, but didn't understand why she couldn't get the food in her beak. "I can touch and talk to them too. And ghosts." She paused again, but smiled sadly and looked at Josh.

The boy swiveled towards Yuurei and allowed a polite smile to grace his thin lips, “You aren’t being a bother at all! I just wasn’t sure how long my car would take to fix. My father kid of… found it at a junkyard and tried fixing it up himself. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that it is being held together by gum or something,” he chuckled and continued on, “Then again I don’t think I could do much better. I’m from Aekea, but mechanics have never been my strong point.” Josh still found it embarrassing that he lacked any knowledge of machines. He had grown up next to them and hadn’t gone a day without seeing at least some kind of robot puttering and clunking its way down a road. He figured he would have at least picked up on something… that was not the case.
Josh turned his charming smirk to Lucia and locked eyes with the young frei, warm auburn met chilly purple. Judging by the apprehension in her face, the subject of her powers was a bit embarrassing for Lucia to articulate. Nevertheless, he was pleased when she answered his question. The boy absorbed Lucia’s elaboration and cooed inattentively, “Oh, you should try meeting Eiry.” Whenever anyone spoke of ghosts, the boy’s mind was automatically drawn to the ghastly raevan and his haunted home. The minty frei seemed to have a close affiliation with spirits. However, with her leather clothing and occult trinkets, Lucia seemed to fit the stereotype of a ‘devil worshipper’ a lot more closely than the sly green raevan who had help him catch his soul. To be honest, her entire appearance had a soft gothic feel to it. It would make sense that she had some connection the souls and ghosts.

Yuurei smiled at Josh's gum joke and looked crossly at Lucia. The raevan obviously didn't get the point that it was time to go now. "Well, I'm sure if not mechanics you're interested in something. What is it that you do?"
Lucia's head cocked to the side, in a cute but confused look. She looked into his eyes curiously. "Who's Eiry?" Something about her powers had spawned a sort of connection with this person in Josh's head. Lucia flapped her wings idly, her thoughts still drifting to the various souls she had met.

Josh grinned at Yuurei assuming that her smiling meant that she was finally warming up to him, “Hmm, I have to say that I love athletics. If you ever need a tennis trainer I’m your man.” The boy poked his chest with a puff of pride. He raised an eyebrow and chimed at the older woman, “What is it that you do?” It was always exciting to learn about new people. This instance wasn't any different. Josh could feel his curiosity peaking.
Josh tried to describe Eiry the best he could, “He is very pale and has a sort of green glow about him. He is a bit scary and like pulling pranks. I’m guessing you haven’t met him then.” Josh motioned with his hands as he described the frei., trying to elaborate his details. He wasn’t too concerned though. Lucia seemed to have a way with understanding what he meant.

Yuurei nodded at Josh. "I had tennis lessons when I was younger. You and I should play sometime," she smiled as she spoke, recalling times when Nana Lucia had played with her. She could imagine the lithe teenager being a good tennis player. The standing woman looked down at Josh and smirked slightly at his last question. "Oh I dabble in various things. As far as income, I'm more of an investor and entrepreneur." She was being purposefully vague -- not that she was saying wasn't true (witchcraft wasn't all she did). Yuurei did invest in various business ventures and even owned a few small companies. But the majority of her time was spent in research and practice for Wicca and witchcraft. "For fun I do a variety of things: sailing, vacationing, you know. I got back from a two month trip all over Gaia. Visiting friends and family and just relaxing at the beach."
Lucia listened to the description of what she figured was a man. Pale. So light skinned. As light at Kyou's? Green glow? That was a little more confusing. Maybe he was seasick when Josh met him. "Umm. . . why should I meet this person? Especially if he's scary and mean." While she had been able to conceptualize the soul bottle, essence, and vague raevan creation, she couldn't understand why he was suggesting she meet this creepy-sounding man. Especially if he was constantly sea sick. He could throw up! And that would just be too disgusting.

Josh’ s eye grew wide and nearly doubled in size when Yuurei mentioned she had experience in tennis. He bounced playfully in his seat enamored by the idea of having a tennis partner who wasn’t a seven year old girl. He looked very similar to a kid strung out on Christmas day, “Of course we should!” Josh gasped when Yuurei mention that she was an entrepreneur. For some reason, he had the mindset that business profiteers simply stayed at home hoarding away there dusty money and constantly counting their grimy pennies. Something like Gambino. This young woman before him completely shattered his impression of an entrepreneur. However, it didn’t seem as though she was above spending her earnings. Josh’s mouth fell agape as she listed off the things she did in her spare time. His free time was spent playing video games, hers was spent journeying around Gaia. It was like they were from separate worlds.
Josh piped up at Lucia, “O-oh, I didn’t mean to say that he was a nasty person! Quite the opposite, he is very sweet. His jokes are just in good humor really,” the boy smiled, “I just thought you would like meeting him because he lives in a haunted house. And he is kind of like a ghost himself. He can float through things.”

Lucia's eyes lit up with excitement mixed with fear. She really liked the idea of a haunted house, but souls can be scary, mean, or cruel and she wasn't sure she wanted to expose herself to that. "A haunted house! Wow! Have you been there? What's it like?" Lucia wasn't sure she wanted to know what the house was like.
Lucia's eyes went wide. "H-he's a ghost?! But you said he was a person! I'm so confused." Lucia paused and took a breath trying to get her head around it. "Eiry is kind of like a ghost, but not a ghost. He can float through things, but he's not a ghost. But he's not solid." She looked up at Josh, waiting for confirmation that her line of thinking was correct. "Well then what is he?"

Lucia perked up almost as much as Josh. Both looked like children discussing their favorite candy or toy to one another. Their eye were alight with glee and their mouth were working at lightning speed. “I have been there but… well, I haven’t seen a ghost there yet. I know that it is haunted though!” Josh grinned smugly as if his expression could confirm his entire account.
The boy tensed as he saw Lucia nearly overload before him. Apparently, she wasn’t as keen as he had given her credit for. Josh once again assumed the sweets soft tone he used with children. His saccharine words washed over Lucia, “He is not a ghost, he is a raevan. However, he has powers like a ghost. So he can float through things when he wants to.” Josh waited for an ear twitch... a smile... a blink... any indication that his words were sinking in.

Lucia looked at Josh blankly. She blinked once and said confused, "Well why didn't you say that?" She smiled slightly, showing she was teasing the young man. Lucia giggled and replied, "I'd really love to meet him. Thanks for telling me about him." Lucia stifled her random giggling, suddenly realizing she was doing it. She looked up at Yuurei and the two exchanged a look: Yuurei pointedly raising her eyebrow and looking sidelong at the door as if to say "you're hungry -- we should go", and Lucia smiling sheepishly, just realizing she really needed to get going and get some energy. "Sorry I'm so silly -- I'm getting really hungry."
Yuurei smiled at Josh and said, "We really do need to get going." She handed him a business card with her name and number on it. She smiled slyly. "I'm not hitting on you; I swear. Give me a call and we can play tennis sometime. I'd love to see how you are on the court. But we really should get going."

Even if it was hunger induced, Josh enjoyed seeing the feline raevan’s mood take a dramatic turnaround. Lucia’s once gloomy exterior had faded into that of a giggling and playful kid. It seemed that all the freis were still children once you got down to it. Alas, it was getting late. The sun was no longer visible. The stars were starting to peek out and twinkle in the black-blue sky. Josh shot Lucia one last smile and gave her head the gentlest of pats making sure not to muss up her hair, “You’re welcome. It was lovely meeting you both,” Josh eagerly took the card presented to him, “Consider it a date Yuurei. I can’t wait to see both of you again.”
The boy watched as they left and could make out faint strings of cursing coming from his car. It seemed as though the mechanic was running into more problems than he had expected. Josh rolled his eyes and sat back in his seat. It was going to be a long night….

Yuurei winked slyly at the seventeen-year-old and replied, "Sweet meeting you too, Josh. I'm sure we'll see each other soon." She paused.
Lucia's ears flattened as her head was touched, but decided to forgive the touch. She leaned forward and gently kissed Josh's cheek, her new learned farewell, at least with people she appreciated. "Good-bye, Josh."
As the pair walked/floated down the hall towards the car, Yuurei's heels could be heard tapping harshly against the floor while Lucia's belt buckle was dragging and occasionally making a tink sound against things the floor. As they each climbed into the car, Yuurei began driving towards the local cemetery where her grandmother lay. Lucia's thoughts, however were on this mysterious Eiry and whether he was a raevan or a ghost. She closed her eyes in contemplative silence. Yuurei was happy for the silent introspection, rather than normal bickering between the two.
