Ocho felt... comforted when she laid her wing across him. He only wished he could do the same for her. But he knew very well he was as likely to sprout wings as the moon was to fall from the sky. Still, at that moment, he felt he could fly, just from her words and the look in her beautiful eyes.
"Wica... I know I'll never replace the male you knew, but..." he paused and pressed closer to her, raising his head so that he could whisper in her ear. "Would you let me try and fill the position he left?"
"I'll never let that happen, Wica. If I have to use all of my abilities to keep you aloft, you know I will," he added and nipped a bit at her mane, smiling down at her.

A giggle escaped her as he nipped at her mane, she turned her head and returned the favor and tugged on one of his braids. Pulling away from Ocho her tail brushing against his side as she went. Her wings fanning out a little before folding themselves again. Making sure that the feathers were flattened down and wouldn't rumpled against her side.
"We'll have to see." She called playfully as she turned back toward him. "You'll have to catch me first!"
Rearing back she waved her hooves trough the air before she turned and darted off away from him. Her mane and tail bellowing out behind her like fluffy white and purple clouds. Her dark hooves dug into the earth as her wings clung to her sides making herself a little more aerodynamic. She peeked back to see if Ocho was following her, she had a feeling he was. But all she could hear was the roar of the wind in her ears and the beat of her hooves against the ground.
Was this really what love felt like, when love was given in return? She had no idea, but for now she felt like a foal again playing with her best friend.

Ocho let out a deep laugh as she challenged him and he leaped into a gallop after her. Aerodynamic she may be, but he had learned to fly without wings. His legs pumped hard as he pressed after her, eating the distance between them. He had returned to the breakneck pace he had originally been running at, before he saw his future on the horizon. Oh, he'd catch her, that was certain. But when he got close, he slowed his pace to hers so that they stayed the same distance apart, letting her lead him on for a little bit.
Mostly, he was considering how to actually "catch" her at their speed.

Peeking behind her, Wica spoted her follower, a smile crossing her face as she made a sudden turn and headed another direction. She wasn't going to make it easy for him even if she wasn't exactly the fastest on land. In the air she soared like the best of them. Shaking her head, Wica kept going until she splashed through a small stream, there she turned again and headed up the stream.
"Too fast for ya?" she called back over the roar of the water as she splashed through it. "Where's the Ocho I remember?"
She was teasing him, she could only hope it wasn't too much. She hadn't really done such things before. Not since she was a foal at least... With the cool water splashing against her underbelly and legs, She felt like she could run faster, though the rocky bottom was making things a little difficult. But at least if she went carefully she wouldn't get hurt... Right?

Ocho felt a shiver of ice slide up his spine and he put on a burst of speed. He knew what could happen, running through a stream. There were stone on the bed, smoothed by the current and could be very slippery. And a slip could be very dangerous indeed. He didn't think he could take seeing her get hurt.
"Wica! Be careful!" he cried and ran up next to her, and then past her. He ran ahead and then into the stream, blocking her path. He just hoped that she would be able to stop, and safely.

Ears twitching, she barely heard a word he had said. Turning her head to one side as she heard him coming closer. She barely slowed as he came even with her and soon before her. Wica watched him as he crossed her path and stopped. Trying to put on the breaks, the smooth stones under her hooves not helping much.
"Ocho, Look out!" She cried as she slid even closer to him. "No breaks."
Maybe it had been a bad idea to have ran in the stream. The stones weren't helping matters as she splashed and scattered small pebbles from the stream bed trying to stop. Closing her eyes and fanning out her wings she beat them slowly slowing herself. But was it enough? She wasn't sure as she wasn't looking only knowing that she slipped closer to Ocho and she hoped that he would move until she plowed into him and knock him over.
"Please not be in front of me" she thought as she braced for impact, wings still moving at her sides, not thinking to take the the air...

Ocho's eyes widened again and he realized he had two options in the really stupid position he had put both of them in. Either he could dig his hooves into the stream bed and attempt to stop her and also risk pushing her over. Or he could jump out of the stream. The latter won out. He rushed out of the way and turned back to her, realizing before she did the other option available to her. "Wica, fly!" he called to her, watching with desperate, crystal eyes.

Opening her own eyes as she had heard him dash from before her. Blinking she had heard, or thought she had heard him call out to her, telling her to fly? Turning her head to the side she had forgotten about her own wings. Dipping her head a little she kicking her hind legs off the ground before her front lifted off. Strong wings lifted her from the ground before her legs dug into the air thermals lifting her off the ground. Feathers shimmering at her sides, she soared high over Ocho's head, her hair flapping behind her like small clouds that got caught along her body.
Dipping a wing tip and cutting the currents Wica spiraled back toward Ocho. Her forelegs pulled in close to her body as her hind were stretched out behind her. Wings beating at her sides she pulled up from her small dive and headed higher, almost straight up. Folding the feathers in she flipped over and dove back toward the ground, only a few feet before she hit the ground her wings snapped back out to catch the thermals and pulled her skyward once more. A dangerous trick, but one she had practiced for a long time. Coming to a halt, her wings fluttered a little before she landed quite gently beside Ocho.
"Guess that wasn't a good idea... huh?" she grinned as her wings folded again to her sides.

His heart leaped with her as she took off into the sky. He had never seen a more graceful sight and he wished so much that he could join her there, to dance with her among the clouds like a pair of birds. He accepted then that there would never be anyone more precious to him than Wica, even if he had a hundred lives to live.
His eyes never left her as she soared around him and he jerked, fighting back a cry of warning when she dove towards the ground, starting when she pulled back up and shot back into the sky. He reared up towards her, a smile on his features as he shook his mane back, getting as close as he could to her as she flew.
When she landed beside him, he immediately nuzzled her, rubbing his nose against her cheek. "Running the the stream? No. But the show afterwards was amazing," he replied, closing his eyes as he tried to lock the display in his memory. "You're so graceful, so beautiful, Wica. Did you know that?" he asked her softly, his eyes opening again and admiration reflected in their clear depths.

A giggle came from her as she nipped at his braided mane. Her side pressed against his, just about as close as she could without knocking him over. Her eyes turned toward the skies, watching the wide open expanses that she had just been in. Her heart soared with the thoughts, and her wings still ached to remain in it.
"I'm glad you like it. Those moves weren't easy to learn, that dive one was the one I was trying when we first met. Remember?" she asked looking toward Ocho. "We were both soggy that day."
Shaking her head again, she giggled at the memories of their first meeting. She was so little and he was just about the same. A couple days younger at least, but she didn't think it mattered. When she splashed down into the puddle, splashing them both. Still giggling she closed her eyes and pulled her head close to her neck some. It was good times back then... Good times.

"I could never forget that day," Ocho replied and nuzzled her tenderly. And it was absolutely true. He, too, remembered her falling from the sky, practically landing in his lap, like an angel from the heavens. But she was better than an angel. She was real, not some fantasy. And she was here, leaning against him, giggling over her memories of them as children.
"It would appear, sweet Wica, that at least I'm a little soggy today, as well. At least, my legs are," he replied, his head dipping and tilting a bit to look at the water that dripped down his legs from where he had stood in the stream.

Wica laughed as Ocho had spoken that he was soggy once again this day while she had been running in the stream. Well, she wasn't exactly dry either. Stepping away a little, she shook the water from hair and coat, scattering it about. The times had turned to their childhood, yes those were simple times and good times. She remembered the look on his face when she splashed down in the puddle at his hooves.
"Those were good times. Now my dear Ocho, I feel like the day has swept itself away without our knowing." She grinned nuzzling against him. "This day of remembrance has worn me out. What about you my dearst?" she asked looking to him, her head tilting to one side.
