He walked along slowly through the woods, following a path that was only visible to those who were looking for it, making sure he pushed down the worst of the underbrush so that she could walk through without a problem. He looked back every few steps to make sure she was there, and he felt no amount of relief once they broke through onto the other side where it was open and he didn't have to worry about her getting left behind.
"Here we go," he said softly, stepping aside so she could see just what it was he had been leading her to. A spring, fairly tall, that drained off in the direction of the river in what seemed like a small, meandering creek. The pool of the spring was filled with small colorful stones, though they weren't visible from where they stood. He glanced down at her, tail flickering behind him in a pleased manner. This was one of the two treasures he knew existed in the Kusini - the other he wouldn't take her to until she much older, for it rested in the heart of the forest and he didn't want any of his cubs slipping off to the forest.

"Oooh..." Her eyes went wide as she paused beside her father, every bit of her seeming to fall still as she stared on in awe. "It's... So pretty here, Daddy." It seemed like something out of a fancy story, and here she was taking part in it. "Wooow."

He nudged her lightly with a paw as she paused beside him, pushing her rump in an attempt to make her walk forward. He chuckled and nodded up towards the spring and the shallow pool that had collected around it. "Go take a closer look, then." He watched her for a moment, peering down at her, before he took a few steps forward towards it himself. "I brought your brother, Njozi, here when he was about your age. Not many pride members know this is here, it's kind of a well-kept secret." His eyes glimmered with amusement as he turned to look back at her.

She glanced up at her father for a moment as if trying to judge whether or not he was really serious about letting her explore. Her backside wriggled along with her tail's swish when she realized he was, getting up onto all fours to scamper towards the water, leaning down to bat at the clear surface with her paw.
She paused after a moment to glance back at her father. "It's a good secret. If everyone knew it wouldn't be as special of an adventure, would it?"

He didn't worry so much about her, what with this area here being so open. How much trouble could she get into with him watching her so closely in an open space? He supposed she could fall in the little pool, but it wasn't that deep - it probably wouldn't cover her shoulders near the bank.
With a lazy stride to her side, he walked forward, plopping down at the edge, and leaned a paw in to rake out a ruby-colored stone close in the shallows, pulling it onto the bank at her side. "No, if everyone knew, they would all be here all the time, and there wouldn't be anything left that was special about it." He tapped the stone with a paw, then nodded out to the pond in front of them. "That bracelet your mom wears, this is wear I got all the stones for it," he said with a small, pleased smile.

"It's good to keep it special then." She nodded, watching her father for a moment more before scampering closer to the water's edge, reaching her tiny paw down to poke at some of the stones only to watch them shimmer as the water danced with her movement. "Mom's bracelet is pretty."

He watched her affectionately as she leaned over to poke at the stones beneath the water's edge, his tail snaking around behind him. For a few moments, he was simply quiet, and then he nodded in answer to her statement. "Yes, it's very pretty - it took me a long time to get all the stones together." All of them done in colors of his fur; Nyunya had been very happy.
"If I can find that monkey again, maybe he wouldn't mind making me another bracelet, or a necklace," he said softly, reaching with his paw to bat lightly at her small tail tuft.

Her tail swatted back at his paw, ticking behind her as if it had a mind of its own while she turned to glance over her shoulder at him. "Did you have to give the monkey something in return? Or was he just a nice monkey who likes making pretty things?"

He smiled at her inquisitive attitude, his tail flickering behind him as he reached out in an attempt to catch her tail lightly under his paw. "Well, the monkey doesn't mind it when I bring him a few extra stones for his collection, but he's usually just a nice monkey." He gave her a little lopsided grin, using his free paw to reach out and splash a bit of water up on her.

"Ack! Daaaad." She huffed at him as she tried to duck down to avoid the water, tail attempting to swish again only to find itself trapped beneath his paw. Her nose wrinkled as she turned before rolling onto her back so that she could swat at him with one of her paws.

The way the situation played out was near perfection, her only choice left was rolling onto her back. Once she did so, he let out a devious chuckle as he reached with his paw to tickle wildly at her exposed belly, playfully batting away at her own as they swiped at him.
It was then that his eyes rolled up towards the sky, squinting at the angle of the sun, and he let a gentle sigh roll from his mug. "We'd better get home, little one, before your mom begins to worry. I, for one, do not want to put up with her temper today." He gave her a small wink before batting half heartedly at her again and pushing himself back up with a heave onto his feet.

She went from giggling as he tickled her to trying to catch her breath when he stopped, rolling back onto her belly to look up at him. She got up when he sighed, lightly butting her head against his leg. "It's okay, Daddy. We can play more tomorrow."

He smiled down at her for a moment before nodding, reaching to ruffle the fur atop her head. A chuckle escaped him at her small little headbutt and he simply nudged her with a paw back in the direction of the den. "Alright, we'll play again tomorrow, love." His smile only broadened before he fell into a loping walk, making sure not to go to fast, so that the little cub could keep up.
