Glancing at the berries Setsumi was kind enough to offer him, Rokhan did grudgingly admit to himself that they looked good and that he'd not eaten since much earlier in the morning. With a very grateful nod, he nuzzled into a nearby bush and gathered a few berries into his mouth. With a few chews and a swallow he could speak again. "Not many others be knowin' what t'do with me when t'winds start speakin'," he answered with a shrug. "I suppose most o' them go hidin' about this time..."

He didn't really mean to, but he'd said that last bit a tad sadly. Rokhan always took the misunderstandings he got from others harder than need be. Not wanting to dwell on it too much, he peered up at the sky that was still howling as loud and angry as ever then peered deeper into the woods. He didn't like being away from his Momma and her herd during times he could be helping them out, but there was a very distinct possiblity that he'd be sharing a canaopy with this quiet new mare througout the rest of the day. Better thank her now, was his thought...

"I be thankin' ya again." Rokhan didn't know what else to add to that, and felt about ready to flounder. "For t'hospitality."

The berries may be small and even some tart, but at least it was something edible to munch on. Setsumi, on the other hand, wasn't hungry at the moment. Though she did chuckle at seeing some berry juice drip aroun the edges of Rokhan's mouth. "Tasty?"

With hair pasted around her face with rain, Setsumi blinked over at the other; curious but quiet. With him? Why did he make it sound like he was more trouble than the lightening to the herd? She fidgeted, feeling like one of the accused to be hiding like she is. "I'm sorry then, if I pulled you away from something you enjoyed. I'd just rather not leave the situation as risky as it was though."

A squirrel chirped by angrily, darting across tree branches and dumping loads of water here and there in his bustling. Seemed others were being interupted by the weather. "Hm? Your welcome then. But feel no obligation to stay here. By all means, wander around if you wish it."

Totally oblivious to the juice, the blue stallion nodded happily. Though it was really her show of mirth that brought the happiness out. It was nice to see such a kind mare laugh a bit.

Rokhan gave Setsumi an odd but surprised look as she apoligised, it was quite a turn in moods. She didn't think he'd rather be somewhere else did she? Groaning inwardly, he shook his head quickly. "Oi, no. I was bein' stupid out there," he assured her as quickly as possible. "I coulda been zapped an' crisped!" He laughed as the mental image of himself zapped over-dramatically crossed his mind. "Oi, ya should see the images that be in mind with tha'."

He also watched the agitated squirrel shoot by overhead, cocking his head again at Setsumi's words. With a playful smirk, he winked at her. "Ya ready to be rid o' me so fast?"

Setsumi tried her best to ignore the juice for now as she listened to Rokhan speak. Zapped and crisped be true! That's why she had bothered moving at all, urged by the thunder then lightening. Otherwise..

The mare made a gagged motion, guessing just what images could be crossing the other's mind right now. "I'd rather not even imagine it." She snirked to herself, finding it humorous still, when seen beyond the real dangers. Rokhan's echo of laughter helped with that sort of relaxing of her serious outlook. Being zapped to having a mane like a wild bird with stunned eyes and drop jaw? Priceless.

Surprise crossed her eyes to Rokhan's wink then, herself unfamiliar with the action. Such was the consequences of living away from social interactions. But his grin and tone of voice allowed her to judge lightheartedness in his question. "N...not at all. I was just assuming, again." She shook her head to herself, before finally letting out a chuckle. "So? We've got time. Mind telling me about yourself some? Aside from that lovely splatter of juice decorating you mouth and tusks?"

Alright, so asking the mare to envision his being zapped was clearly not the greatest of ideas. She obviously had quite the vivid mind working in that head of hers, which relieved Rokhan greatly. He'd always been raised amongst strong and intelligent mares, but he'd heard horror stories of dim-witted females with the minds of birds. The tribal painted stallion was cautiously aware at how relieved and relaxed he felt that the only thing Setsumi had in common with birds were feathers.

And she wasn't completely opposed to having him around it seemed, that was always a good thing. Her curiosity in his life must mean she was alright with him staying and continuing their talk, the thought of which allowed himself a bit more time to relax... And possibly wipe the juice decorating his face off. He promptly did so with a laugh in the wet grass before shrugging Setsumi's way.

"I won't be divulgin' nothin' unless ya be promising to share something 'bout yourself afterward."

He was always obliged to talk about his family, herd, and what went on between them; but he was vastly more interested in the life of the awesomely bizarre mare next to him.

The femme turned her eyes away, as if the act of cleaning one's face was a privacy issue. But the curve to her lip remained at the humorous sight of juice bleached around the other's mouth. Crown feathers sagged as the rain continued its pelting, and Setsumi could only twitch them every few moments to relieve a tickle or itch. Though they did flick as she perked an ear to Rokhan's suggestion.

"Share about myself?" Her voice nearly squeaked at the proposition, but she kept her expression neutral. It...did seem fair, certainly. But was it of equal worth for time? Teal eyes looked down to the red berries in debate and she spoke softly with hesitance. "I shall try to not bore you then. My story in and of itself is minimized by span of the woods." Except for her foal years, but that might remain hidden if not asked.

Taking the chance for lack of anything else to do, (and to not appear rude), Setsumi nodded in decision. "Alright then, but only if you go first." She nudged her chin in the direction of his tusks. "Are those some trait of your family or tribe? I've seen them once before, but they were slightly different."

The slight smile on Setsumi's face encouraged Rokhan, he wasn't still entirely sure what the mare thought of him. He knew and understood that they'd just met under very unlikely and potentially dangerous circumstances... But she was the first mare he'd really gotten to spend a signifigant amount of time with, and he'd like them to part ways as friends.

At least she seemed equally nervous around him, he hoped. The stallion sincerly prayed that if that was the case, it was for the same reasons he was unsure of himself. "I can't be thinkin' of any way ya could bore me, Setsumi," he said reassuringly. "These be fairly large woods." He grinned, baring his tusks as he spoke to accentuate them more. He was ever so proud of them.

She'd asked him to go first, and he felt no harm in doing so. It was fair as she had shown interest in his past first. Looking down the length of his muzzle, his eyes glistened. "They be from both my Momma an' my father, they come from much farther south than here." He wanted to jump from his family to hers, in terms of the conversation... But he didn't want to seem over-eager. No, it was best to let her ask questions first.

((I'm sorry about the delay, I'll do my best not to let it happen again.))

When in doubt, Setsumi usually fell back to awkward smiles in social encounters. Even if she was confused to a topic, it was better than a confused gaping. Not only was it kind in gesture, but it also helped calm herself when she recieved the same action from another. And it seemed to work, spurring the stallion to speak more into the conversation.

She laughed to herself. A nervous and doubtful reaction that she couldn't help. "Well that's a first, I must say. Most other times I mention life in the woods, and other soquili are bored and uninclined to learn of it." True she wasn't as inclined to explore the prairie life of others, not alone anyway. But at least she gave the courtesy of listening and learning of it from strangers.

Eyeing the tusks, the mare couldn't help but think they looked predatory, or at least an amazing replica of canine offense. And she could clearly see the pride Rokhan had for his chompers. "Yeah? So is it truly a southern lands trade? Or just your family?" Ah, the ignorance of lands and cultures was beyond her grasp. And though her adrenaline to learn of such things was strong, it wasn't strong enough to overcome her anxieties. Ears twitched as she nodded with a smile. "Alright, fair is fair. What do you have to ask?"

Rok peered down his nose cross-eyed to get a better view of his tusks, he'd been vain a few times and admired them in reflection from a puddle but he'd never really given too much thought on whether or not they were specific to his family. He stopped the corss-eyed business and shook his head carefully at Setsumi. "I not be sure," he admitted honestly. "I know my Momma and Pop be havin' tusks, same wi' my sisters and brothers..." He quieted down to think a bit more on the subject. "I not be knowin' if t'rest of t'southern soquili have them." With a shrug, he smiled sheepishly at Setsumi. "I've never met them."

With a flex of his jaw, he looked down his face one last time and considered the points of the protruding teeth. They looked like upside down fangs... "I s'pose they be almost like t'nasty fangs kalona be havin'..." He didn't much like the thought of that, and for once almost doubted the pride he should have in his unique family trait. With an almost pleading look to the mare next to him he frowned in thought. "I'm not so sure tha' be a good thing..."

He got silent, watching the loud sky and Setsumi next to him with renewed interest, as if to refocus his mind completely away from the thoughts of his tusks. "Anyway," he finally added, "I always be interested in t'forest. I've never been really explorin't hem before, so it be a new learnin' experience." He beamed brightly, but uncertainly at the feathered mare and actually watched her feathers as she moved and breathed. They were very pretty, he had to say and certainly something he'd never seen on any other soquili before. Well, it was his turn for a question wasn't it?

"You be havin' very lovely feathers," he started, "I've never seen them on anyone else." He paused and studied her feathers as he tried to think of a good way to ask what he wanted. "Are they a family inheritance like my tusks be?"
PostPosted: Wed Aug 13, 2008 6:19 pm

Setsumi chuckled lightly to Rokhan's expressions as he tried glancing at his own tusks. Red eyes were no longer frightening in the curious and silly actions. "That's fine though. I can't expect you to know every little thing about other soquili." Considering she herself didn't know much to even begin chattering about. Eyes widened though and her smile faultered as the other spoke. Kalonas. She knew of Kalonas..

Nervous eyes peeked at his, unable to read the emotion behind them for long. A boom shook the sky, and her shaken knees to the subject of the cruel horses. She jumped, fidgeting in her small space before she was secured and pressing against the bushes. "I...I wouldn't know. Teeth are teeth. It just matters how you use them and why." And the mare left it at that, not wanting to explore the topic further.

She looked to her forest home, now soaked through and looking dreary for wear. It'd take a long time for everything to dry over and become comfortable again. At least all the scents would be more fabulous and potent with the moisture. Ears twitched, and Sumi turned back to Rokhan with raised brows. "Well, that makes two of us. I've only ever seen feathers for wings." Her tail gave a subconcious flick, and she nosed at the bush as a distraction. "There is no family before me. For whatever reason; I've accepted that. But my daughters do carry some feathers as well."

His eyes brightened and he nodded acceptingly, "That be true, Setsumi." The fact that the subject and the shaking of the skies seemed to upset the mare was not lost on him. Not being able to think of anything else he could do to be sure she was alright, and not too terribly terrified, he schooched over the best he could on the ground to be closer to her. It was no easy feat, having four legs, but he succeeded and nuzzled Setsumi's cheek reasuringly. He didn't say anything, he couldn't think of anything to say, and he hoped his gesture would be enough. Especially as she mentioned not knowing of any previous family.

Then she mentioned daughters. There was a bit of surprise, and it mirrored in his eyes as he watched the mare nosed the foliage protecting her other side. Did this mean there was a mate near-by? He wiggled away from her, not by much, but enough that if there were another stallion to randomly charge in they wouldn't be mistaken for doing other things. With hesitation he opened his mouth to speak, "does this be meanin' you've got a mate nearby?" Either way he was happy she had a family now, where there was none at the start, and was intrigued by her mention of her children's feathers. "I sure both daughters be as pretty and unique as you."

How embarrassing. Here she was, a soquili who enjoyed and speculated over rainstorms, and jumping out of her skin. Just at the mention of a certain species. And Rokhan stood as if nothing had been heard at all. Setsumi took a breath to calm her pulse, berating herself for being so silly. Then her heart rate paused in her lack of attention, feeling a sudden brush against her face. Teal eyes blinked and she flushed under pale skin, glancing down to hide her embarrassment. She wasn't used to talking to strangres, let alone making contact with them. "Thanks..."

Him stepping away gave her space to breathe, and she peeked up to his question. "A mate nearby?" Her tone held dry sarcasm, and she tsked lightly to herself. "No, that's not true. We...prefer different lifestyles. He doesn't frequent the woods often." A small smile grew on the mare, and she shook while ruffling her feathers. Both to the raindrops and her tugging emotions. "Yes, they are both lovely. Near and precious to me still, even if grown and gone." Wow did she feel old.

Okay, now he was confused. He wasn't sure if her mate, or former mate, didn't visit the woods often because he didn't enjoy her company and they had parted ways or if it was because they had a relationship like Rokhan's own mother and father. He understood forming a relationship out of trust and companionship over true love and desire, barely; but he didn't understand any stallion being able to resist being beside such a striking mare. Different lifestyles or not.

It was his turn to tsk at himself, he was getting dramatic in his own head and like a sign from the spirits there was another clash of lightning to jolt him back to reality. At least the flashes of light were getting farther and farther apart, which meant an eventual end to the angery clouds above. Against his nature, the stallion fidgeted slightly and busied himself with grazing a bit of the ground beneath him. He felt himself drawn to Setsumi in a way he hadn't experienced in his adulthood thus far, and he wasn't sure if it was because of her looks or the fact that she hadn't openly judged him in any way. "Does that be meanin' the two of you don't be talkin' often or at all anymore?" He hid his own embarrasment with a smile and shook some of the heavily collecting rain from his hair, careful not to splash Sumi. "I don't be meanin' t'be nosy, my Momma and Poppa rarely see each other."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 14, 2008 7:03 am

The mare decided to herself to leave out all the little details of the past. What point was there to blabber about everything? It would leave her feeling bare and vulnerable, and that was something she wouldn't tolerate. Only if she paced herself would she be able to speak more openly of her past. Maybe that's why things didn't work out with Mel, and she still dwelling in the woods.

Sumi blinked to herself, tilting her head as she glanced at Rokhan. What did he have to tsk about? And then he was moving about while grazing, and the mare couldn't help but assume he was snickering about her. She twitched self consciously, but she was already pushed against the bush as it was. No need to behave so silly and anxious. The warm raindrops helped remind her of that. A moment passed after his question as she thought to herself. "No, we rarely speak or meet anymore. And if we do it's only for the sake of our daughters." Seeing the other shake off the rain made her own body repeat the action. It was always a fun sensation, even for her sensitive feathers. "That's alright...you were just asking. So your parents, do they still like each other?" She couldn't tell which term of 'like' she meant. It was confusing to understand.

Rokhan watched the movement of the trees as the mare spoke, and was in complete awe that he really couldn't think of anything to say. She seemed sad, or so he thought, and he wasn't sure if there was anything he could do to make her feel better. All Rokhan knew was that when he wasn't feeling his best, he liked to contemplate and have his thoughts left alone. With that in mind, he decided not to pry too much.

He was, however, surprisingly relieved when Sumi mentioned not seeing her former mate or lover much anymore. He could see the value in doing so for their children, but the thought of her possibly needing companionship from time to time left a lightness in Rokhan's stomach. Not sure what the physical feeling was, he bent to resume his nibbling on the grass in the hopes that it would settle the odd sensation in his tummy.

Turning an eye to the purple feathered mare next to him he smiled gently but didn't answer right away. Did they still like each other? He had to assume that they did. "Well, I be thinkin' they do. I think the be lovin' each other too, in a way." That was just more confusing, and he knew it. With a thoughtful sigh, Rokhan chose not to add anything to it and make the confusion worse.
