Gintoki was confused at what Ismene had told him. Maybe she was implying that she was his mom? Gintoki shook his head. She couldn't be his mom. After all, he just met her today. A mom always had to be there. Maybe he didn't have a mom. Gintoki shrugged. At least his Dad was always there.
Gintoki blushed when she giggled at his stomach grumbled. He nodded quickly and started trotting to the forest.

Constantly looking back to see if Gintoki wasn't falling behind, she continued her way through the forest to look for a critter to pounce on. Hearing rustling in the bushes she stopped. Crouching down she mumbled several words, "Don't Move. Don't make a sound" She held out her paw to prevent Gintoki from going any further.

Gintoki followed Ismene quietly trying not to make a sound. He was taught that he should be very quiet in case if something ambushed him. The rustling made him freeze instantly. He obeyed Ismene's words and stayed behind her paw, but staying alert.

Noticing Gintoki listen to her, she was pleased. If anything went wrong, it would be easy for her to sweep him up and get the hell out of there.
She slowly crawled to the rustling bush and pushes aside some leaves. On the opposite side of the bush was a rabbit. Grinning she waited and pounced into the bush, hoping she would land on the rabbit, easily killing it. The bush totally engulfed her body and all was left was the rustling of the bush and the squeal of a small animal.

Gintoki watched in awe at the precision of Ismene hunting the animal. He wished he could be that fast when he grew up.
As he heard the rabbit squealing, his stomach growled again if not, louder.

She swiped randomly in the bush for a second and noticed the rabbit started to limp away in the direction of Gintoki. Good, its hurt. One more shot should do the trick! She thought. Jumping back out of the bush, she chased after the little critter and cornered it into a hollow tree trunk. The trunk was not that long, but it was difficult to keep track of the bunny. "Hm....Gintoki can you watch the other side of this trunk?" She called to the pup sitting several feet away. "I want it to come to me so I can kill it and we could eat." She said looking very hungry.

He noticed the rabbit limping in his direction. He then saw the brown blur that was Ismene chase after the rabbit into the trunk.
When he was told to watch the other side of the trunk, his heart started to pound because this was his first time hunting! He briskly trotted to the other side of the trunk watching the rabbit caught in there. He scratched at his side of the trunk so the rabbit would run into Ismene's direction.

Peeking into the hole, she saw the frail rabbit looking back and forth. Farther into the trunk she was able to see Gintoki. His silver pelt gave her a clear indication of who it was. Using her tail to bat against the wall of the trunk, the rabbit freaked, it fled to the opposite side of the trunk into the direction of Gintoki. She worried. After all Gintoki must have not hunted before and in Ismene's opinion the rabbit, although small, packs a punch.
"Hey kid! Run into the trunk! The bunny's going to escape!" She yelled through the hollow tree trunk. Wondering what to do, she started to swipe at the end of the tree, to snap off the wood and gain easier access to the bunny. "This meal is becoming a nuisance" She growled.

Gintoki heard something hitting the other side of the trunk. He then saw the rabbit running in his direction.
Hearing Ismene's orders, he tried to his best to squeeze himself into the trunk. The trunk was big enough for him, so he didn't have to struggle much, but then he realized the rabbit was running straight and him. He braced himself for the collision but it was too late.
The rabbit tackled into him and then began clawing at him to escape. He squealed in pain, but he managed to bite down on the rabbit's flank. As the rabbit started to claw more, he sunk his small teeth deeper.

Noticing a silver blob enter the hollow trunk, she relaxed for a moment and hoped that the rabbit would be smart and go the opposite way. But it was one stubborn rabbit. After seeing it fight with Gintoki, she panicked. "Gintoki! Are you ok?!" She screamed. All she heard was his squeal.
Guess not.
After seeing Gintoki hold onto the rabbit, she ran to the other side to pull him out. "Just hang on to that pest! I'll wring its little neck!" She spoke loud enough for him to hear her.

At the sound of Ismene's voice, he held on to the rabbit harder. He even hit it a few times with its paw. Since his claws were still growing, it didn't take much damage, but the rabbit started to slow down but still fought hard.

Seeing the fight Gintoki was giving the bunny, she grinned and pulled him out by the tail. She was hoping to see few cuts and bruises on Gintoki, but a bunch of them on the rabbit. Seeing the rabbit, she forced her paw onto its neck to snap it. Seeing the rabbit stop moving was a clear sign that It was dead. "Finally....I'll clean this carcass up and then we'll eat it! She said, grinning ear to ear.

Gintoki felt something pull him out of the trunk. He then bit the rabbit even harder. When Ismene pulled him out and killed the rabbit, Gintoki shook himself and grinned. "Was I good?" he asked hopefully.
He pranced around Ismene watching her clean the rabbit.

"You were great." She replied. She felt extremely awful at the sight of the scratches and bite marks that were across the young pup. Little ones do not deserve such injuries, not even from a small rodent like that damn rabbit. At least the injuries he received from the rabbit wouldn't be in vain.
Glancing back and forth at the rabbit and the prancing pup, she carefully sliced up the rabbit and handed him several legs."Eat up" she said, not long before she partook in eating the rabbit herself.

Gintoki's pride had surged when Ismene told him he did well. The pain from the scratches he felt made him feel even more important and he began to think of himself as a warrior. A lazy one.
Gintoki wriggled when she gave him the food and hungrily swallowed it.
Rabbit never tasted so good.
