I think for our generation that will never happen but for children born in about five years time (OK maybe that's a bit soon) books will become fewer and short stories will be published on the internet. Bookshops will become very few. This is making me feel depressed. sweatdrop

I daresay they probably will... *cry* Its very sad, but I'd even say its already begin. It used to be that if you got a research project in school, you HAD to go to the library and do some hardcore BOOK research. Now, people hardly ever use a book as a resource, and just look it up on the internet (myself included, I'm too lazy...). As time goes on, people are getting more and more lazy, and using computers just seems like the easier method. People say, why should I go to the library when I could just stay at home and look it up online? So eventually, I'd guess that books will become obsolete, though I suppose there will always be people who OWN books and continue to read them (I'll probably be one of them if it happens in my lifetime). I'd also guess that as a result of reading on the computer, people's eyesight will get steadily worse and contacts will go up in price. ninja

It could be possible that some day that computers will take over books. But, I will build a vault to be opened in say... 1000 years or so, powered by lamanent coated solar panels to keep the books fresh, kinda like the Vaticin files, or something of that manner. Or I will create a time "machine" and travel the the future and take hundreds of books with me!!! EDIT: Let me add, that somehow, some way, I will put in a basic internet program or something that will not permit all books to be gone.

I actually prefer real paper books over e-books. First of all, I am more interested in something if I can hold it in my hand and actually smell it. And when I read on the computer, the screen hurts my eyes for a short time. Imagine if that short time was for a whole 700+ page book!? And third or last of all, even though the computer has replaced many things, books will always pwn.

Computers are just an impersonal mess. Sure they be the 'way of tommorow', but it never can be compared to reading a book. Computers just can't replace books and thats final.

I will never use a comp. to read a book. I think is hard to follow where you are and trying to scroll down. I will always use books they are one of the mot coveted things to me. Better then games, better then movies, better then.......Hmmmm.
