"If the only way to achieve peace is by staining one's hands with blood, I'd gladly bathe in it so long as innocent hands would remain clean." - Fefnir Kamashiro, Captain of Squad Nine
“How can we make peace? It’s simple. I take your hand, shake it, then we go eat ramen together. Easy.” - Xeion Kuchiki, Vice Captain of Squad Nine
Although some shinigami tend to view the squad as a squad of cowards, sissies, and girly-men, second only to the scrutinies that plagued the Fourth Squad, the truth of the matter is actually far from what Squad Nine truly is. Sure, its peace-oriented members who strive to keep the peace in the Sereitei and would rather opt to talk peacefully than draw a sword may be the principal cause of this view, however, very few shinigami seem to know the fact that this squad is still a part of the 13 Court Guards and will not hesitate to draw their swords if ever the peace of the Sereitei is threatened.
Justice, peace, friendship, love and unity -- these are but some of the core values by which Squad Nine stand for. However, even with all these values, this squad is mainly built upon the concept of sacrifice, as one would see in their daily actions as peacemakers, defenders, and friends.
As peacemakers, Squad Nine truly believes that, through mutual cooperation, peace can be achieved, and as such, they seek to bridge the gap between the people of the Sereitei, even reaching out to other races such as Bounts, Vizards and Quincys, all for the sake for inter-racial peace and harmonious coexistence.
As comrades and defenders in times of crisis, the squad stands as a bastion of hope for 12 other court guard units, as well as the Sereitei, and is responsible for keeping morale up and make or maintain peace. Even in darkest of days, when hope is lost and the hearts and wills of their fellows shinigami broken, they rise up and raise their banner high and face the enemy with zeal and fervor, fighting on until their last breath, yet even then, they still hold their banner high.
And finally, as friends, Squad Nine members are ready to take on any role, fiercely defending their comrades, gladly sacrificing themselves, both in body and/or in spirit, for the sake of the greater good of their loved ones and their homeland.
Even as emissaries of peace, comrades-in-arms, and friends to our loved ones, the spirit of peace drives Squad Nine members forward, fighting on until there are no more fights needed to be fought, no matter how long or how far. Why do we do this? Our answer is simple.
“We are Squad Nine."
