Gavin grinned, ruffling his black hair self consciously. " No problem. I just wanted to make sure my friend was alright." He picked up a few wrappers and turned to throw them into a rubbish bin. " You kinda scared me, you know." He sighed and turned back around. " Just...if this happens again, try to contact me or something. I'll be sure to bring around sugar sooner." He smiled charmingly and gestured towards the door. " Guess I should leave you to it, then?"

"Gavin..." Fern cocked her head to the side before a very mischievous grin came upon her face. "I'm sorry for worryin' ya so."
During this little apology, Fern closed the distance between them, took his face in her hands, and gave him (as she said she should) a kiss on each cheek.
She took a step back, and wearing the same bright-eyed smile, began flitting her wings. "You don't have to go. You should stay, and we'll see what you brought me, and talk a bit. If you want to, that is, Gavin."

Gavin grinned as she kissed his cheeks, clearing his throat after a few seconds, flushing furiously. " Al-alright.." He smiled and tugged his brown coat off, leaving it on a chair. He was dressed as a normal teenage guy, fashionable looking in dark jeans and grey tee-shirt with boots, and the only really distinguishing marks were his ears, the black tattoos on his face, and ethereal handsome-ness. " So, what do you feel like talking about?" The elven noble asked, flumping down into a chair and grabbing a piece of taffy.

Fern laughed at his red cheeks. Secretly, she liked making him flush, and liked seeing him grin in his silly way whenever she did something to make him like that. Really, she just liked Gavin.
The fae began inspecting the basket he brought, pulling out little packets, each earning their own little sound of approval. "Ooh, lemondrops," she would say, or mutter something about how much she liked taffy. Eventually Fern settled upon a nice box of tart candy before taking a seat next to Gavin in a different chair.
"I... I'd very much like to know how you think that thing got in the ballroom. That was so frightening..." Really, she wanted to know how many other people were as frightened as she was, even though most had gone on living like nothing out of the ordinary was going on. Like no one had died.

Gavin appeared pensive, and leaned back into his chair. He thought for a long while, long enough for Fern to begin to loose her interest in his still form, before speaking. " It's a problem with the Gate, I do believe." He reached across the table to pull out a lemon drop. " Where I lived, there were several younger gates, sort of like wormholes. They didn't take you to another plane, just another place. It felt alot like that, but stronger. Malevolent almost." He sucked on the lemon drop for a little bit, watching her watch him.
" That's how I think it got in. Someone tried to create another gate near here, or it was already made, and someone or something tried break the binding spells on the place. The only question is truly why." He finished the sweet and reached for a piece of chocolate. " Spirits do not usually attack groups, nor can they kill or maim really anyone in physical form. There has been a war going on in the Realms, but I didn't think it would spread to affect the humans..." His brow furrowed worriedly.

Fern looked at him sadly. It was a rare moment for Fern to be both quiet and still, but she was. "I know. My brother died in it..."
It was really the whole reason why she had royally flipped out when her eyes had settled upon the malevolent creature. She immediately thought of her brother, Bracken, and for a very real moment thought she would die, too.
"He was attacked by something, they told me. But mum and da, they'd never say. They just said 'something evil,' wouldn't even let me see him for the last time. Just told me he was gone, and I had to be careful... That's why they sent me away here." She furrowed her brow, looking down at her candy. "But if they think I'm not safe here, they might try to send me away somewhere else... and I don't want to leave."

Gavin smiled sadly, and placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it lightly but kindly. " Don't you worry Fern, I've got your back if you've got mine." He winked at her in an attempt to cheer her up before picking up a pink box from the table. " I understand humans will sometimes give these to each other on a holiday called ' Valentines Day.', some strange thing celebrating love. As if you need a holiday for that." He shrugged. " It's a bit early, but why not?" He grinned and held the box out to her.

She did smile, and even gave her wings a bit of a flutter to send some shimmers in the air. Though when Gavin, handed her the box, Fern became a bit confused. "I didn't know about a holiday... Oh, Gavin, now I feel like I've gone and neglected you..."
Her curious little fae fingers opened the box to see what was inside...

He beamed as she opened the box, revealing the lovely little necklace inside. " I saw it down in Moline awhile ago, and your face popped into my head. So, there you go." He flushed modestly. " I hope it isn't too much or gaudy and that you like it." His brow furrowed as he mentally fretted over the reasons she might not accept his gift.

"Oh..." Fern was very much enamored with it. The heart sparkled and glittered, and with her liking of anything that did such, Fern immediately accepted it as her own. As she fiddled with the clasp to place it around her neck, Fern beamed. "Gavin, it's beautiful! Really, you shouldn't have... but I've nothing to give you at the moment..."
Well, she could think of one thing. Two things, really. But Fern only acted upon one of those impulses. She held out her hands to pull him to his feet from his chair, and as soon as he was standing, she gave him a tight hug. "Thank you, again. You're just bein' so nice to me, dancin' with me at the ball and everything."

Gavin chuckled and wrapped his arms around her just as tight as she had. " It's no problem." He smiled and pecked the top of her head, before pressing his cheek to the place he had anointed. " Anytime you need me, just clock me over the head." He grinned and laughed softly.

It was Fern's turn to turn a lovely shade of pink as she felt him kiss the very top of her head. She didn't mind, though. In fact, it just made her want to stay as they were, just holding each other. But what could she give him back?
"I wouldn't want to do that," Fern said with a chuckle in her voice. "I... like you far too much to go beating you right over your head, just to get your attention." It made her laugh, just thinking about Gavin with a bump on his head from her.

Gavin grinned, reluctantly removing his arms from her. He glanced out the window, squinting momentarily at the sky. It was quite nearly sunset, as he had spent the day tracking down candies and such for her. He looked down at her and smiled. " Hey, do you feel like going for a walk?" He doubted she'd say no, and so picked up his jacket in a motion to put it on.

"It's a bit chilly out, eh?" But she, too, was pulling on her fae wrap, designed specially to fall around her wings and not squash them under heavy fabric. Fern pulled on socks and boots, and finally her mittens before joining Gavin at the door. "I'll go wherever you want to. Goodness knows I need some air after all that nonsense bein' small."

He smiled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. " Hope you stay warm out there." He grinned and bumped his head against hers before they hurried off to the grounds.
