Helies I know it can be annoying to hear people ask you to heal, but guess what? Priests were meant to heal, and unless you have ABSOLUTELY terrible gear, you should be able to heal except for 60+ instances and raids. I have a spriest too, i like to heal even though im shadow to level and i do just fine. Priests are not "meant" to heal. Like any other class, priests have different trees they can go up. Priests, paladins, shamans, and druids can all choose to heal, but they certainly don't have to. Shadow priests play an important role in raids, largely due to vampiric touch and embrace. What many people do not understand is that you can't simply take a DPS priest, paladin, shaman, or druid and have them heal as well as someone who is actually specced for healing. It's not just about gear either; the holy/resto trees have talents to increase healing, reduce threat, increase mana regen, etc. So sure, we might be able to go heal something like ZF (but why would we really want to?), but we can't heal endgame content as well as an actual healer can. Another issue is that many shadow priests don't want to heal, which is why they didn't go holy in the first place. So some shadow priests get annoyed when asked to heal because they see their shadowform as a big sign that reads, "I don't want to heal." But I believe the main issue in the original post was someone telling our original poster how all priests should be holy. Those kinds are statements are annoying because they show lack of knowledge about the game, lack of knowledge about different tress, and lack of respect for letting other people play the game how they choose.

NO. NO ITS NOT. These people have clearly never ******** RAIDED as a shadowpriest, or raided with one that wasn't PANTS-ON-HEAD RETARDED, or raided PERIOD.
I leveled holy. I sat in Orgrimmar for ******** hours at a time doing nothing but spamming '49 holy priest LFG' until I ******** hit outland. I know how to heal, I know what its like to be holy.
After awhile, I got sick of the retarded pugs. I didn't have any other characters to level so there was never any reprieve from the retarded. When I got to outland and was UNABLE TO KILL SOMETHING MY LEVEL OR LOWER WITHOUT USING MY ENTIRE ******** MANA BAR, I respecced shadow, to avoid killing everyone around me in a mile radius in real life.
I have been shadow for almost a year. I have first priority when invites are going out for a raid. People start to bicker when I'm not in their group. I have a Kara-quality healing set, so if its needed I can respec. But I will never be holy for longer than a few days.
But if some retard on a lv 22 blood elf hunter runs up to me and tells me 'you should be holy because thats what priests were made to do' then I will find him and slaughter him IRL, and I'm not even entirely sure if I'm kidding about that, thats how much of a rage it sends me into.
If priests were ******** supposed to be holy WHY IS THERE ONLY HALF A ******** TALENT TREE WITH TALENTS TO IMPROVE MY HEALING CAPABILITIES. I'm serious.
For anyone who doesn't know, half of the holy tree is talents that improve your Smite and Holy Fire spells. Its a dps tree. Discipline is kind of like survival, it rounds out your character and theres useful stuff for all specs in there, but its also possible to make an entire spec out of it, thats actually pretty effective in pvp.
Shadow is the ONLY tree with effective dps capabilities, and the ONLY tree that lets you bring something unique to a raid while still bringing good dps.
On any given night I'm in the top 3 dps. Theres 1 hunter I can't beat, our mage, and then 1 rogue I can't beat, but all 3 of them are rarely there at the same time.
At the same time I'm an effective form of CC in ZA and Kara, and on top of that I make our healers last twice as long and am pretty good dps to boot (1k dps in ZA).
I don't mind getting asked to heal because I can just say no and ******** be done with it.
I would LOVE to see someone convince me why I should be holy. I would ******** rip them asunder.

Bit of an old thread, but... I'll post my story. Even though a few of you will probably have heard it.
I am a feral druid. I have been since I learned what talent points were for. I played as nothing but a bear until level 20, when I got cat form and realized I liked it much better. Since then, I've played as nothing but a cat. I'm only out of cat form when I'm doing something that won't allow me to stay IN cat form, like eating or whatever.
So I'm in Deadmines, shortly after getting cat form. I'm with two guildmates, and some random people. We don't die. Nobody has died the whole time. All of a sudden, one of my guildmates starts ranting at me about how I should be healing people besides myself. To which I reply that I simply cannot do that, it's boring and I don't have to attention span for it, plus -insertpartymemberhere- has been healing you the whole time. So he starts saying that druids were created to be healers, and if I was going to be 'worthless', I should quit the game. At which point I announced in party chat that I was leaving due to the fact that -insertjerkfaceguildmember- was being unnessecarily mean. Then I left the group and hearthed out of there.
...He got kicked out of the guild. twisted

if it helps, even when you are healing speced, people don't STFU. Many WoWers get their e-peen stroking from trying to tell other people how they should gear/spec/play/live (I don't add gem, because I've had to get mean about a guildie putting shitty green gems in a T5 helm. Hypocrite? You decide, BUT at least I was nice about it). Shadow priests make many classes very happy in raids, just as enhance shammies make melee dps cream. Don't listen to people who tell you how to play your $15/month.
