I, personally, find the half animal thing stupid. If you have it as part of your shikai its fine to me, like if you transform into an animal during bankai, but being part animal just to get more power in hopes of being better than everyone else is just stupid and cheap.

If you want my opinion,I think animal powers it's OK if they are part of a plot thing... Only for the purpose of RPing you character background for example...
If you want to say that your animal powers make you stronger than an average shinigami (and notice I'm saying average and not even adept), well... it's just plain stupid!!!... Wolf's legs or eagle's wings are nothing compared to a shinigami flash-step or the ability to step on air... What's the point of saying "I can move faster because I have wings" if a trained shinigami can shumpo??? Remember Komamura Sajin? The captain of 7th... He's strong because he's at captain level, and not because he resembles a fox... he fought like any other shinigami and never said anything related to fox-like abilities...
And to use it as an excuse to attain shikai is pointless... having animal organs implanted into you (for example) won't increase your reiatsu... And releasing shikai is all about reiatsu and knowing you're zanpakutou's name...
If your shikai, however, grants you some sort of animal power... I think thats acceptable (of course this is just my personal opinion)...

ok...I'm going to give the giest of what I think Maxi would say and what the experiments were about.
The experiment Maxi was preforming was to see whether or not implanting full animals, as well as parts of different animals, into shinigami, to see what kind of things would happen. These would give small boosts, let's say speed if you had cheetah implants in your legs. Nothing drastic like saying you can go 60mph just cause you have cheetah legs. Those who are trying to use these implants to bypass shikai and use them as it, are cheaters and liars. No such thing was meant in the initial experiment, and nothing was said about being able to give big bonuses.

First of all, the bull muscles increase my physical strength, a little. I use my own reiatsu to increase my physical strength anyway. But that is counteracted by an invention that Squad 12 developed for me. It is basically Kenpachi's eye patch made into some wristbands. So it isn't like I just use the strength at all times.
And no, Dragon. I don't want horns. I have a horned helm in my bankai.

What if a character has a shikai or bankai that gives them animal like powers or something is that considered the same thing?

its kinda like copying the arrancar...some of them that use their zanpakto turn into a bull or a panther etc. so i think its pretty stupid that somebody would copy that...if they are.
