"He went to go get some moss to pack in your wounds. He should be back soon..." Alyna responded, turning her eyes to search the skies for Cobalt. She had thought he would have been back by now. Maybe he ran into some trouble? She didn't know. She did know that he would be back soon, and that his presence would make Martin nervous. Hopefully, Martin would have the sense to stay put and not strain his injuries any more.

Cobalt had, in fact, run into some trouble. There was little moss to be found, so he had to search longer to find the amount he needed. That, and the moss he had collected kept sliding off of his back. Nevertheless, he had managed to gather enough, and he was soaring back towards the injured stallion and his herdmate, the moss covering his back, neck, and head. He even had some clutched between his teeth, his sharp fangs glinting in the light. Cobalt hated his fangs. He tried to conceal them the best he could, but there was no choice this time. He had run out of places to put the moss.

He finally saw Alyna and the strange, hostile stallion, and landed deftly beside them. Shaking off the moss, he looked at Alyna and said, "Well, I think I got enough for at least three stallions, so there should be plenty for his injuries."

Martin cringed as the shadow of Cobalt blocked out the sun for a few milliseconds, but then he forced himself to think calm, and ignore all his senses, which were screaming at him to rip Cobalts throat out and feed it to the crows. He took a few deep shallow breaths, and examined the half Kalona more closely. He didn't seem to possess the horns that most Kalona's had, at least that made an improvement. But when Martin's gaze flicked to Cobalt's mouth, his ears flattened as he saw the tell tale mark of a Kalona, half blooded or not, and that was fangs.

He forced a low growl back down his throat, and closed his eyes, trying to ignore the fact that Cobalt was there. His ears remained pricked though, waiting for the slightest movement that seemed hostile.

"I'll...I'll let you tend to him, Alyna. It appears that I am...well, not exactly welcome." He let out a deep, rumbling chuckle. "Not that I blame you. Nightshade did a number on you, that's for sure..." Cobalt walked off, into the shadows of the trees, where he disappeared almost entirely from view. The only visible part of his body was his eyes, neon blue peering out of the darkness. In truth, Cobalt preferred the shadows, feeling more safe and at home amongst their concealing shroud. No one was afraid of him if they couldn't see him.

After Cobalt left, Alyna sighed deeply and began to pack the moss in Martin's gaping wounds. "You know, I appreciate you not trying to attack him again...even though I could tell that you wanted to." She smiled at him, her eyes turned downwards towards her work. "I know it was probably pretty uncomfortable for you...but he really is very nice once you get to know him. Maybe you two could try again, after you feel a bit better? And I'll be there, so you guys will behave yourselves." She grinned, and answered the unspoken question, "No, I don't trust you two to behave. Not after today, anyways." She shuddered a bit as she gently packed moss into his neck wound. "How did this happen, anyway?" She asked, gently applying more moss.

Martin's tense shoulders eased up as Cobalt retreated to the shadows, but it was quite unerving, seeing those eery eyes looking out at him from a body unseen. He shuddered once, then averted his eyes. He didn't think he would ever truly be comfortable with Cobalt, but he would try, for Alyna's sake. The cool moss felt good against the wound. His voice was stronger as he said roughly, "I never said I would behave, rules are ment to be broken." He tried to chuckle, just to ease the tense moment, but coughed instead. His eyes watering a bit as he coughed, he answered in a clipped voice, "Nightshade's twin horns, don't meet up with the pointy ends." A feeble grin snuck onto his face.

Alyna smiled softly at him, a small chuckle escaping her lips. "You sound like me when I was young. I thought rules were meant to be broken as well...but this isn't a rule, not exactly...more of a suggestion, a code of...of well, gentlemanly conduct, you see?" She glanced back at the shadows, feeling safe so long as she knew Cobalt was there. "And, besides, I don't expect you to trust him right off the bat, and neither does he. He doesn't really expect anything from anybody...he just accepts them as they are." Alyna personally thought that was astounding, that even after all that Cobalt had been through...he still could act kindly towards others. Although his view of himself was rather warped, he saw others the way they were, looking through mere appearance and status.

Alyna smiled feebly as he answered. "I'll be sure and take that advice...because this," she gestured to his wounds, "doesn't look like much fun." Alyna finished packing the moss, and grinned at Martin happily. "Well, you're all done. Feel any better?"

Martin raised an eyebrow at Alyna's words, and sighed. He rasped, "I'll try, but I won't like it." He looked at the glowing eyes in the tree's, and gave a tiny nod of acceptance, but with an underlying meaning saying, One wrong move and I'll rip your throat out He felt the moss soaking up the blood, and the lightheaded feeling ceased. He struggled to his feet, and gave Alyna a friendly nuzzle on the shoulder. He said gratefully, "Thank you Alyna," He felt wetness in his eyes, and he continued, "Without you, I'd have probably died." He felt a shudder run down his spine.

Alyna's ears perked up at his words. "Really? That's wonderful!" She was still so innocent, that she didn't catch the threat lurking under his words. It was probably better that way, as Alyna's tender heart would never be at ease if she thought that two of her friends would possibly fight in the future.

"Well...without me and Cobalt." She said, blushing a bit. She wasn't used to be flattered so, and she didn't think she did anything really important. She only put moss in his injuries. Somehow that didn't seem like it would deserve such praise. Nevertheless, she returned the nuzzle happily. "I'm just glad you're gonna be ok."

Cobalt, on the other hand, had not missed the threat lurking under Martin's conditional acceptance, but he was unperturbed by it. It was only natural that he be wary...especially because he believed all with Kalona blood were evil. Cobalt shuddered, remembering that he, too, was not entirely absent of evil. He could only hope that he would not find Martin covered in blood at night...that was when the bloodlust came, and Cobalt wasn't strong enough to withstand it...not yet at least.

Martin winced slightly as he turned his head, and said, "Well, I guess this is goodbye until next time." He nuzzled Alyna, and dipped his head stiffly in Cobalts direction. He was a little perturbed that without Cobalts help he probably would be dead, but in every life, a little rain must fall. And Martin had just been hit by a hurricane.

Alyna smiled warmly at her friend, returning the affections gently. "Seems so. Take care of yourself, my friend." A simple goodbye, nothing fancy. In her heart, she knew she would seek out Martin again. To see how he was healing...and to make good on her resolution. For she had guessed at what Martin was. There was only one good reason to have encountered so many Kalona. He must be either attracting them...or seeking them. She hoped that, over time, Cobalt would be able to prove himself to Martin...because if he was seeking them, then he needed to know that there were exceptions to the Kalona viciousness. And even though she was almost convinced that he was indeed seeking out his doom...

She hoped beyond hope that he was not.

Cobalt, on the other hand, felt a rather confusing emotion. It was the first time he had felt pity for anyone but himself. He could already tell that this stallion had a hard lot in life, perhaps as hard as his own. He could see it in his eyes, the pain, the anger. And a glint, perhaps a mere refraction of light...but it spoke "hunter" to him. It was the same fierce glare that Cobalt himself possessed. And that unnerved Cobalt, because he could not understand why he could possess a trait that Cobalt linked to the fierce bloodlust locked away inside of him.

Nevertheless, Cobalt stepped from the shadows slightly, becoming visible enough to nod back at the blue stallion. Unaware of Alyna's resolve, he made one of his own. Later, when there was no danger of loosing control, Cobalt would find and follow this stallion, at the risk of ruining the feeble trust they shared, to find out why he carried a predator's stare.
