Kiae rolled her eyes as Melthin returned his attention to the Green; a house in every city? "No wonder it was so easy for the Order to learn his secrets, if he's that foolish," she thought dryly. Making yourself so vulnerable was foolish - the only weakness she had at the moment was her daughter and Light help whomever thought they could harm her.

Kiae frowned at the idea and brushed it away quickly. She preferred to stay in local inns or homes; she learned the gossip much more quickly than if she stowed herself away in a building. "His priorities are rather misplaced, if I'm any guess," she added privately.

"Of course, darling," Esole replied as she patted Melthin's arm to show her approval. Fine sheets and a bed were all very well and nice, but they had work to do as she was sure Kiae was well aware of. She just had to maintain this ruse of her blindly following Melthin's every desire until they found something to help them find the New Order. She knew very well that the others thought her to be frivolous and temperamental but she would show them in the end when she succeeded in bringing down the Order. Of course, she knew she could be those things at times but not to the extent everyone seemed to think she was. "I will show that Yellow," Esole thought with a tiny smile. She would show them all in the end.

"Oh, Ethin. You will be accompanying Kiae Sedai, right? I will be fine with Melthin so you need not worry about me," she addressed her Warder before dismissing his presence her mind and focusing her attention on Kiae. "And I know we will be going down somewhat different paths while in Cairhien but perhaps we should arrange for a place to meet? Of course not where either of us will be staying. That would not be a good idea. Perhaps in the Foregate? The residents of the main city are much too suspicious for my taste and anything we do there will be under harsh scrutiny. And the Foregate is packed with people from all over since the Last Battle. We will be practically invisible," she said, taking a deep breath after she finished.

Ethin nodded absentmindedly to Esole's question. She did not seem herself. She seemed rather esoteric of late and it perturbed him. He did not like how she had seperated her and Melthin from himself and Kiae. The man was clearly not a positive influence on Esole. In private, he would have to discuss with Kiae what to do about the man. Ethin could not sit idly by as this near necromancer warped his Aes Sedai. She deserved better than that. Ethin hoped Kiae's dislike for the man would work in his favor.

"And perhaps we should not meet at the same time each day or it would look suspicious," Ethin suggested.

"I agree," Kiae said with a curt nod, glancing over her shoulder to eye the others sharply. Esole was enough cause for worry on her own, but with Melthin nearby it was only increasing the unnecessary stress for the woman at the moment. She considered Esole's suggestion before making a face and shaking her head.

"No, the Foregate will be the first place anyone would think to look for a meeting. Besides, we are Aes Sedai - we are not invisible no matter where we go," she reminded the woman sharply. "Anywhere in the main city markets would be much easier at the moment. Travelers often frequent there, obviously, so the diversity of people would be even greater. And the chance someone will run into us more than once is highly unlikely, as people often buy then move on," she continued. She smiled to herself - harsh scrutiny from the people in the main city? Once they were past the Foregate anyone in the main section was considered trustworthy enough to at least not blow up the city. No, the Foregate would be more dangerous.

Melthin smiled as he listened to their conversation. I sense their distrust through their voices and if that isn't enough, their bodies are marking it out clearly. How quaint. Perhaps now I can finally get through with more research on my main goal. I hope Bartello kept everything clean in my lab. Once we get to the home though, I'll have to tell Esole my intentions. She may break the bond with me for it. I'll have to try and fit into the role of a warder more then a researcher. I have been neglecting that duty, that I will admit. Well it will change here.

(EDIT BY FUBAR: Kiae was still talking to Esole. Lack of posts does NOT mean nobody is going to do it. It MEANS people are waiting on someone else. Edit back.
EDIT AGAIN: Hasn't been changed back and is causing confusion, Cairhien section of post has been deleted.)

Marek yawned as he sat on the side of the road, leaned against a wall to a ruined building that had never been rebuilt. He still had the horse he borrowed from the young woman, though it was stabled in the upper sector of the town right now. He was playing the old world worn beggar at the moment for information. People didn't much care what a beggar heard, and were pretty free lipped. He wasn't asking for money from passersby, his act was of a man just tired of living. It wasn't far from the truth, so it was rather easy.

Sighing, he moved his walking stick from one shoulder to another. It was rather heavy because it was wood covered steel with a sword inside, but he by now was used to it's weight, and was able to move it around like a regular pole made of plain wood. He also drew his hood down over his eyes, drifting in and out of slumber a little.

"If you say so," Esole retorted, rolling her eyes in disgust. How could the woman not remember that Cairhien was home to the most distrustful people in the world? Could she not recall the Game of Houses? Esole sighed as she thought over a plan of action for if they are discovered by the New Order. Of course she would fight if she could. But if they were greatly outnumbered, which she feared they might be, they would have to make a run for it. The most logical escape seemed to be Traveling but she would need Kiae for that unless Esole could convince herself to use almost as much of the Power as she could hold. She would have to if there was no other option.

"But what about Ethin?" she asked herself grimly. Could she leave him with the Yellow if it came to running? She doubted it but she didn't think the Yellow would come with them willingly. Esole considered breaking the Bond for a moment before dismissing that idea. She just couldn't do it but she couldn't ask Kiae to leave herself defenseless so she could take Ethin with her. "I suppose I'll just have to suck it up and take her along," she thought sourly.

Ethin decided it would be best if he refrained from adding his thoughts. He agreed with Esole but did not think it was worth it to argue. He doubted there would ever be any fair compromise between the two so what good would it do to pick sides?

He took a step closer to Kiae and waited silently for her to come to a decision so they could continue their trek to Cairhien.

"I do say so," Kiae replied calmly, not feeling like an argument at the moment. Aes Sedai would be noticeable enough - fighting Aes Sedai would be even worse. "I intend to use the city markets to meet with my contacts, which is why I prefer that idea. If you'd like to meet at the Foregate, I believe tomorrow will be best. It will have given us all time to settle in and hopefully avoid detection."

She wondered if Esole's suggestions were being manipulated somehow by her Bond with Melthin and frowned. "Of course, Greens are always up for a fight, so I suppose the idea of a higher risk doesn't bother her as much," she thought with a private shrug.

Kiae's words were met by frosty silence from Esole and Melthin, while Ethin seemed to just want to stay out of the whole issue. The rest of the ride was short and quiet, and they soon reached one of the gates of Cairhien. After it had been decimated by the Last Battle, its ruler had rebuilt the walls with several gates in place, making it easier to evacuate the city if anything else were to happen. "Here we are, one of the filthiest cities this side of the river," Kiae said dryly. She noticed a man on the side of the road, but her gaze passed over him dismissively.

Marek flicked his eyes up to take in the passersby. Two Aes Sedai, a Warder, and a fool, interesting. Sighing, he made his way to his feet, using his staff for support that in all truth he didn't need. Stretching his back, he started walking off in the opposite before he deliberately used his walking stick to smack the shin of a would-be pickpocket, causing him to tumble to the ground. Pausing his stride for a moment, he looked down at the whelp and shook his head. "If you insist on lightening a traveler's purses, make sure you don't pick out a group with two Aes Sedai and a Warder, and if you do, I'd suggest aiming for the idiot instead of the Warder." Leaving the child dumbstruck, Marek resumed his walk.

Melthin eyed the older man and his display warily. What a fine specimen for his age. He would make a truly worthy guard. I could even add a few- No. Kiae's truce prohibits me from using corpses. Why must I be a man of my word. Melthin rose his voice enough to make sure the man knew he was being addressed. "Thank you very much good sir. I shall see to it that you are compensated for your good deed." Melthin reached into his shirt and pulled out a small pouch, taking two gold crowns out and extending his hand out to the older gentleman while moving his horse closer to the man. Why do I feel that I know this man. I could have seen him before while I was here yet his proportions don't match any of the records I have of the residents of this city. Visible muscle tone 32%, skin elasticity 44%, Agility...

A small grunt escaped his lips as the man approached on horseback. "I hate to tell you but I refuse to take charity, I haven't earned it, so I wouldn't be any better then the child I stopped." Flicking his eyes to the pickpocket's former location, he noticed the kid had disappeared, and Marek should have followed his lead by the looks of it. "And I would suggest not eying me like a vulture when you are trying to hide intentions through generosity akin to bribery." For a moment, his hand slide to the top of the staff where the hilt to the concealed longsword was, but returned his hand back to it's original place. The hilt was perfectly flush with the rest of the staff so only those who knew it was there wouldn't mistake the gesture for fidgeting, but Marek didn't quite care. "Besides, I have my own money and room in the upper section of town." Hoping none of the other children would peep up with a comment, he turned, deciding that returning to said room would be a good idea.

Kiae snickered as the man spoke to Melthin, judging his character quickly and with what she flattered herself to be accuracy. "He moves like a Warder, but obviously isn't. And has such a an attitude as to put several people I know to shame," she thought with a private laugh. The man would be interesting company to keep, she was sure - if only for his apparent animosity towards Melthin, something she could use. He didn't seem like an easy man to approach, however, so she decided to keep her thoughts to herself. For now.
"Still, I do thank you for stopping the child. For his sake, not ours," she called after the man, noticing the children seemed to like the strange old man for whatever reason. "And if you have any information about strange happenings in the area, please find me and let me know," she added.

Esole flashed Kiae a warning glare. Openly laughing at her Warder? The woman really was overstepping herself. She would learn her place with time. Whether she would learn this lesson from Esole or someone else did not matter to her. Someone would eventually show her she could not continue as she was.

"Come Melthin dearest. Let us leave the man alone. I'm sure he has pressing matters to attend to as do we," Esole informed her Warder while making a gesture for him to follow as she guided her horse through the gates. The older man seemed to interest Kiae. "Anything she's interested in should be kept under close watch," Esole thought grimly. She already had enough on her plate with the New Order. Following Kiae's interests was an inconvenience but necessary.

Ethin eyed the man while he gently stroked his sword hilt. They knew nothing about him so he could be dangerous and must be watched carefully. Ethin kept an eye on the man for any sudden movements while watching their surroundings for any other scum that might be trying to endanger their group.

"Perhaps we should be heading off, Aes Sedai?" Ethin asked Kiae with a curt dismissive nod to the older man. Ethin was itching to be away from the man. He would follow him later and try and find out more about him. But until then, he did not want the man very close to Kiae. He could be a danger.
